This is my first time here! I'm at a gig for Nebula Trip in 7 High St. in Brattleboro, Vermont. They quickly serve some really cold, complementary hot water. As a complementary drink, we are having a "rose pine." That's what they call it. It's nice! I taste ginger! For my drink, I'm having a Cinnamon Maple Whiskey Sour made with whiskey, lemon, maple syrup and cinnamon. I like the traditional Indian glass. This tastes good! It does lack a garnish though. My only gripe here is that it took a while (20-25 minutes?) for the drinks came out considering the number of tables here (4-5). For my entree, I'm having chicken vindaloo made with peppercorn, vinaigrette and masala chili sauce. They have a 1-5 heat rating. 5 baby! It's tasty and pretty hot! Wow! What a great meal! read more

The food was delicious and well spiced - maybe bump your spice level down a notch if you don't want too much heat. My son and I were the only patrons in the restaurant at the time we arrived - the server was attentive and knew the menu very well. We enjoyed our meal but we were really not pleased to see that they had added a mandatory 20% gratuity to our bill - for a party of 2. I find that really offensive and presumptuous of them to spend my money like that. Had we of known they were going to do that, we would definitely not have ordered our 2 glasses of wine. We went there for Sunday dinner and the place had one other customer and the room had a very musty smell and hot making it very uncomfortable. Service was slow. Naan was brought last after about 20 minutes but the sabzi was served first making us wait for naan. Raita had a stale smell to it. I have sworn off Yelp, and have not posted in a VERY long time, but I cannot, in good conscience, be silent about our experience here. We were in Brattleboro, around 4:30 pm on a Saturday,and very hungry. We had never had Indian food before, and decided to try something new. We should have seen the red flags, but wanting to experience Indian cuisine, we ignored them. First red flag- It was 4:30 on a Saturday, yet we were the ONLY people in the place. This should have been a big red flag. Upon entering, there was an obvious "funk" in the air. I attributed this to either food that I was unfamiliar with or perhaps just an old carpet throughout the building. Another red flag- I used the restroom, and noticed that the bottle of hand soap had been watered down. Almost like it was empty, but someone added water to the bottle to save money. There were also NO paper towels in the restroom, which I promptly told the line waitress about. Thinking back, I assume there was a male working in the kitchen, as I heard a male voice back there. Well, obviously he should have been aware of this had he washed his hands like he should be doing. We ordered the honey garlic shrimp appetizer. It was very bland, had no honey whatsoever, and some burned garlic bits scattered on the plate. 6 shrimp for $18 was WAY more than this dish was worth. We then had two separate chicken dishes, rice, and some sort of flat bread with garlic and chives. Another red flag- The waitress served the rice with her thumb IN the BOWL. My bad for not refusing it. We ate most of our dinner, except my companion felt that her chicken was very dry, so she did not eat half of it. The waitress was kind and took half off the price. We then had some sort of ice cream dish for dessert, mine was served without the "sauce" on top, as they were out of it. This should have been a red flag as well. When you have ONE couple eating in an empty restaurant, and you're out of daily use items, you're doing it wrong. We then paid the bill, which came to $120 with tip. Outrageous for what we had. We then drove an hour home. At about 10:30, my companion began to complain of severe stomach pain. By 11:00 she was vomiting violently. This continued ALL NIGHT. It is now 8:30 AM as I write this, and she is still in bed, sick to her stomach with dry heaves. If she isn't feeling better by noon, we will be visiting the ER. Takeaway's- This restaurant is certainly in its death throes, which is apparent from the lack of customers, lack of cleanliness, and super high prices. My apologies to the waitress, who despite the thumb in my rice issue, did a decent job and was very attentive. I believe the issues here are with the kitchen. I am considering making a call to the local BOH. read more

Indian food in Vermont? Really? Just try it. It was super good. The chicken vindaloo was spicy. I was warned in advance. The butter chicken was smooth and mellow. They also have Vermont heavy beer list, which helps cut the spiciness, but you may want to try a $12 martini. I'll be heading back next time I am in the area. read more

Oof. Horribly expensive ($30 entrees) for small portions and really bad Indian food. I never had anything this flavorless in my time in India. Malai kofta was bland, chicken curry was equally bland and with dry chicken. Roti was cold. For my first time in a sit down cloth napkin establishment in months, I took a wild chance and was deliciously rewarded. I was the solo customer at 4:40 pm but by the time I left they were doing a swift takeout business. We've been trying to think of how we might raise our rating, but it just doesn't happen. Our experience here last week was regrettable. Here's why: we arrived at 6:05 p.m. to a mostly empty restaurant. Twenty minutes later we got water and an opportunity to order from the menu. Our appetizers arrived at 7:05. Our entrees showed up at 7:25. There's no good excuse for that. Our server was a pleasant older woman, but we suppose she just had too much to do. The food wasn't awful -- mulligatawny soup especially tasty -- but hardly outstanding in any sense, and the riata was terribly watered down. The serving sizes also seemed small to us, but maybe we were just too annoyed by the lengthy wait to appreciate much. No one ever said "we're sorry" or told us of a coming delay. Unacceptable. They have indoor seating and an outdoor patio -- maybe service was better there. Maybe, but seriously doubt we'll come back to see for ourselves. read more

Secondly, my daughter had paneer tikka masala, she prompted that, she smells milk, but we ignored and let her have it. I was in the area and searching for dinner options. This is a very good quality Indian cuisine restaurant with a full bar and a broad range of beer options. The atmosphere is very peaceful, service is good. I had the Chicken Tikka Tandoori, which was a very generous portion but also so good that I finished it all! The menu seemed pricey first but I think they deserve it given the quality of the food and generosity of the plate. I also liked that they had five different kinds of veggies as a side (brussel sprouts, onion, green pepper, red pepper, broccoli), which is thoughtful given that many places will only serve simply one common veggie. Had high hopes for this place and was a little disappointed. Drove quite a way to eat here. The interior is nice - the kind of place that has a bar that is hardly ever used and has things like tamarind martinis (written on white boards.) carpeted floor, clean-ish table, overall ambiance for lunch was decent. Ordered pakoras which were made in house and aside from lacking any salt or detectable spices, were well constructed. Kind of a miss. Ordered saag paneer. For $18 this was a very small portion of paneer and rice (from the "lunch menu") No cream in the sauce or richness which was also a miss. The whole meal needed salt. I asked for the highest level of spice and it was mild at best. The flavors weren't bad for sure, but needed more seasoning overall. No bread came with. A few tweaks and some more down to earth pricing (this is not New York City folks) and this place would be really good. I've never heard of $26 for an order of paneer In tomato cream sauce, for example. In Seattle (which has excellent Indian restaurants) this would be $12-14 and would be well spiced and seasoned perfectly. I was told that the bigger portions (such as the one I'm describing here but didn't get) had 6 cubes of paneer vs the 4 in the lunch portion. Either way, these are ridiculously tiny portions at rather big city prices. Paneer can easily be made in house and costs Pennies on the dollar from gallons of whole milk. Not sure why this place is so expensive but I wouldn't return based on that alone. For two of us our bill was $52 and we had water only to drink. Add a tip and we're at over $65 for lunch. If it was divine, I wouldn't mind, but it was bland and everything was under seasoned. I wish them well, and hope this review can help them in some way. read more

My husband and I were very much looking forward to a wonderful dinner here tonight. We've dined here previously. The service has always been slow, but worth the wait. Tonight, however, was a very different story. We ordered our cocktails, which we waited at least 20 minutes for. It was not crowded.The young, very rude, bartender finally brought our drinks to us. My husband ordered his usual 7 and 7, not a speck of whiskey was to be seen and whatever they substituted the 7 up with was just the cheapest soda they could come up with. We know many places do not have 7up, but they ALWAYS let us know. We asked about that and got a very obnoxious reply. It was a very disappointing experience and unfortunately, we will never go back. We loved the meal! We ordered samosa for our appetizer. Very good, but we're served just two. For our shared entrée we ordered Palak Paneer and Baingan Bharta and it came with white rice. The service was great, very personable and just the right attentiveness. We liked that the server asked us on a scale of 1-5 how spicy we would like our food. We chose 2 and that was perfect for us. This is a staple of my lunch routine. I probably go once a week! The food is Good to Great. If I were judging the food alone I'd probably give it a 4/5. But everything else is what brings it to a 5/5. - Affordable Lunch Option - The Lunch Buffet is everything you want in a buffet. Filling, nice range of chicken and vegetable items, fresh naan (it isn't sitting out getting tough). - Quick - There is never a wait for a table or waiting on an item on the buffet line being refreshed. I can always be in and out before my lunch hour is done with time to spare. - Great staff - The Owner/Operator is a all around really nice guy and you can tell he likes people and people like him based on his rapport with the folks that come in.
