I agree with other reviewers mentioning how oil-heavy the dishes are here. I ordered one of the lamb dishes and got mostly liquid but very little meat. The lamb entree costs $14.99 and doesn't include rice (add $6 for a small portion). The flavors were good, but not worth it for the price. read more

I am a tea/chai person and Keene doesn't have any other Indian restaurants. Stopped by for a cup of tea and samosas in the evening. I asked for ginger spiced tea and they said that was definitely doable. That was really nice of them. When I got my tea, I couldn't taste ginger at all. I pointed this out, not to complain but because I really wanted some ginger in my tea. The owner seemed a bit offended. We had a bit of a back and forth but later he offered to get it remade. This time, I could taste ginger in my tea and was quite happy. Samosas were a bit greasy than normal but I think that could be because it was near closing time and they probably had to refry a pre-made samosa instead of making it fresh. We also learnt that menu prices had changed when we got our check. Price change wasn't clearly listed on the menu, it was kind of stamped somewhere on a sheet of paper on one wall, but that paper didn't list tea price. My husband and I stopped in here for lunch. We had driven by many times, but we had never had the time to stop. The first thing I noticed was that it needed a good cleaning. If I had been alone I probably would have turned around but my husband wanted to try it out. I have to say the food looked really good as it is sitting in heating trays. The man behind the counter which I am assuming is the manager / owner of the restaurant was very friendly as was the woman who worked in the back. He explained what each of the dishes were and also told us about the rice you could get as a side. My husband ended up ordering the lamb and I ended up ordering the chicken curry. We both decided on the side of rice. Naan comes free with the meal as does a small side salad. We sat down at one of the tables and waited. It did not take long as most of the food was already prepared. The food itself was very good. That's why the three stars. However, the prices are quite high for food served on.plastic plates. We probably won't go back for that reason. We have been to sit down full service Indian restaurants for less money. Our lunch was almost $50 for two people. The food here is delicious. I ordered a Garlic Naan, Karahi Lamb and 2 Samosas. The woman gave me a regular naan, but that's okay. It was delicious anyways. The Karahi Lamb was flavorful and had a nice heat to it. I had to dip my naan in the juices. Oh! It was so good. She asked if I wanted rice. I forgot what it was called but my daughter ate most of it. I probably shouldn't have gotten the rice though cause we were so full. The Samosas was absolutely delicious. Everything was seasoned so perfectly. It's too bad I don't live here. I'd definitely be coming here every week. The business is family owned and the lady who was cooking was very nice. read more

I ordered chicken korma and paneer masala with garlic naan. I'm not sure if there was some error in the kitchen, but the naan was plain and not garlic, no rice was provided, and the two dishes were truly terrible. I've had a lot of Indian food, but never been to India, so maybe they were cooked in a style I've just never had before, but I ended up throwing the entire meal away without eating it. I am on the fence about this review. I went in at 8 pm and the food was obviously from lunch hour. The owner was so excited to see a customer I couldn't walk out. There was not a soul in the whole food court. My mistake was to assume that the $7.99 meal was a reasonable price for what I got. I got cauliflower with chickpeas, spinach and chickpeas and lentils with chickpeas.... Maybe 12 oz each and were $7.99..... For veggies. He added a tiny tiny salad and a huge dinner plate garlic naan which was the best of the whole meal. It is made to order and you can have it made anyway you want. The food was so oily that it spilled out of the to go containers. The spinach was so over cooked it didn't taste like anything but oil. The lentils and chickpeas (very oily) were like paste and the cauliflower was a bit dry but tasty. I could only eat the cauliflower. The owner upsold me rice pudding which was $6. It's good but $6? The owner was so cordial and excited to have a customer and my fault for ordering the food that looked way way over cooked. Nonetheless he should have had dishes that are fresh. Ten out of Ten for this delicious honest-to-goodness Pakistan-Afghan down home style eatery where the food is great! Succulent expertly grilled chucks of chicken tikka on skewers is put in a rich Masala sauce for you, Beautifully scented Basmati rice melts on the tongue, fresh buttery garlic nan bread arrives all hot and crispy, and don't miss the chana masala (chick peas) in a rich hot delicious sauce. We loved the fresh chicken shish kebab, too, and the hot black tea with sugar. Proprietors Mohammed Waheed & Begum Saadia are engaging, well travelled, warm, welcoming, hospitable, and very charming. They're kind and laid back and on the night my husband and I visited to collect our food their phone didn't stop ringing with delivery orders. Meeting this beautiful couple and one of their 7 children - a tall beautiful girl who is a super student, and chatting in their relaxed restaurant with them was a treat on this wet snowy February evening. They made time to chat with us and we left feeling like family. We love this family oriented place, it offers great authentic food at good prices, the spices and cooking style is Afghan and Pakistan with a large selection of side dishes. The Basmati rice was delicately scented with cloves. The fresh green chopped coriander on the garlic nans made them look and taste beautiful. This place is no-frills with good honest cooking and great tasty food served for quickness on paper plates with plastic spoons - just as it is in Lahore, Kabul, and London where I'm from. Don't visit and expect this restaurant to have fancy china plates or plasticcy anonymous looking staff in uniforms, or a neat and tidy franchise feel or appearance. Expect instead plain looking tables and chairs for diners to eat at, a chilled drinks cabinet, a tv showing news stations from all around the world, a couple of pot plants, and nothing else but a window cut into the wall through which you can watch this couple cooking the best food! The taste of the food and the personality of the ownership is what makes it a gem. The restaurant is family run and owned. The owner is so kind and full of joy. Really good. This seems to be real, Indian home cooking. So glad to have stumbled across this place (taking our son to the children's museum next door). Had lamb with peas, some curried cauliflower and cabbage, some slow-cooked greens, basmati rice, and naan. Such warming spices and not overly used. This you could just tell was not some typical restaurant meal slapped together in a rush, but rather food that someone would cook for their family. Update: 2 years later all statements below still stand. My boyfriend still enjoys coming here and we've brought my whole family and my sister's kids like it too (and they are some picky kids). I DO miss the colony mill space, but we come for the food and that hasn't changed. I still haven't tried the rice pudding... I should get on that. --------------------- Really tasty food at reasonable prices. Eating here has become a requirement of my boyfriend's for when we go to Keene to visit my family. He says it's authentic and better than some of the places he goes to in Boston. He's Indian, so I take his word for it. I just know it's good. So far I've enjoyed their Samosas, Saag, Chicken Biryani and sausages. I hope to try out their sweets soon! The Colony Mill was always a pleasant place to eat - I'm glad there's something to eat there again! read more

First time here, the owner helped us walk through the menu. Ordered 3 meals, two sides of rice (which was absolutely delicious), which cost extra and three naan which was free and amazing, small salad with extremely spicy dressing, with three drinks came to $45. For supper not a bad price but for lunch a little steep for a family. I would come back again, sure wish they had a buffet where for $15, you can try many items on the menu. read more

Passable but underwhelming. I try different Indian places and find myself going back to those that can definitely outcook me. This was not such a place. I'm sure a small place like Keene, lack of options make this place resonate vs not having anything at all, but I would be happy to help a new place open up so we can get some variety and competition that will hopefully elevate the south Asian offerings here in Keene. read more

Stumbled on this place, pleasantly surprised to find good Indian in New Hampshire. The owner described all the dishes and explained that we can have a little bit of everything. Which we did, enjoyed it all. Tiki Marsala Chicken was excellent as well as the garlic nann, rice and spinach. The other dishes were good but those were my favorite. I ate here 2 years ago on a road trip and still think about it. It is the best food I've ever had. It was almost too good, because every time I eat food that isn't from this place, I am quietly disappointed and am full of longing for this restaurant in Keene NH. In fact, this restaurant is the only reason I remember the name of Keene, NH. I almost wish I never knew about this place because it has robbed me of my ability to be happy with the regular basic boring food I was eating before. Today if I go out to any other restaurant that serves plain rice as a side I can't help but think "ok but why didn't they make it like curry Indian in Keene NH?" Realistically, I think about the way that rice was cooked like once a month. It's rice. I need to eternal sunshine this place out of my brain so I can go back to enjoying mediocre food. Please if you go there send me some of the Dal, be kind to the employees, and enjoy. Or don't. I don't care, I'm jealous of you just for being there. read more

Entering here is like being in a disorganized, noisy home, with kids running around stacks of groceries stored here and there. It's reminds me a lively food stall at a bazaar in a faraway land. The boneless lamb curry from the hot table was delicious; too greasy, but very tasty, with distinct flavors, and not monotonous like at other Indian places, where every sauce seems to taste the same. The naan was also delicious and a generous size, freshly prepared for my order. The owner is obstreperous and has to be right, even if he's wrong. He charged $2 more for the lamb dish than priced on the menu he handed me. He wouldn't honor his recent 10%-off coupon for an entree, one with no expiration date from the local newspaper. He charged 30% more than the correct amount of 9% meals tax and wouldn't listen to reason. Is any of this legal in NH? He may be less difficult with a man rather than a woman. Regardless, none of the issues are conducive to making one want to return. Why bother, when there are other places that treat customers respectfully and where the staff are agreeable? read more

I recently moved to Keene, NH and immediately sought out my favorite meal- Chicken Tikka Masala. After waiting about two weeks for this place to reopen after their move, I finally got to enjoy eating Indian Cuisine. This place does things a little different than my previous experiences. You don't get rice with your meal. No biggie. I always get Garlic Naan with my meal and that's usually extra, so for it to cost for a side of rice but get the Naan with your order it evens out. The chicken is juicy and cooked perfectly. The sauce is amazing. Very flavorful. Although I generally like my Masala very hot, I still enjoyed the mild spice. Next time I'll definitely ask for extra hot. The rice was flavorful. Not just plain rice, but seasoned and softer than I expected. The salad and the dressing that came with the order was a cool touch. The dressing even has a little kick. Now onto the business. The owner himself is great. He cares about his guests and it shows. After annoying him daily on the phone waiting for them to reopen I finally was able to place an order for delivery. Today was one of the biggest storms of the year snow wise, and not only did the owner personally take my order over the phone, but he made my food and delivered it himself within 25 minutes of ordering! That's not all. Oh no, he called me about an hour later to ask how I felt about my meal as we got to know each other after two weeks of phone calls every day. I happened to be shopping at Colony Mill Marketplace with my eldest daughter when we saw that a new business had taken over the food court. And oh boy, it happened to be Indian/Pakistani! We were both very excited, since our Indian consumption had virtually disappeared as the economy took its toll on local restaurants. Curry is mostly steam table, but that's very good news for most Indian/Pakistani saucy dishes, which benefit from long slow cooking. However, if you talk to the guy, they've always been willing to make special orders if you're willing to wait. The mister loves bhindi (okra), and even though I've never seen it on the table we've never left without it in a plastic to-go container. Eldest loves samosas, and although to my taste they need a bit of salt, otherwise they are a real treat. I like to get the seekh kebab--it's chicken, but surprisingly spicy for a steam table, and a bit soft but perfect for wrapping in the naan that comes with the entree. In addition to being delightfully delicious, the casual atmosphere, easy seating, and friendliness of the owners/staff make it a family destination. The prices are on par with most Indian places (i.e., not the dollar menu) but it's not outrageous, and there's ice cream and Indian sweets if you're not groaning from the generous portions. There's even a grocery section to pick up your chapati or asafoetida or coriander chutney for home. I wish they had a refrigerated section for frozen paratha and samosas, but maybe I'll be surprised one of my visits. read more

The woman said she had to prepare the chicken tikka masala fresh since they were all out. We were happy to wait, expecting something fresh and delicious. Not so. The food is sub par at best. I would agree with another review and say that it tastes like it was frozen, pre made. The owner's children were running around the place, in the dining area, in the store and kitchen areas as well; one with bare feet. Is that a health code violation? And they like to watch while you eat. The dining area is in what use to be the food court, but there is no clear boundary leaving a sense of ambiguity about being at the restaurant. Colony mill patrons walk past to use the bathrooms in the back, which makes me wonder if the food court belongs to the restaurant or not. So in short: food less than good and atmosphere is distracting, uninviting, and intrusive. read more

First Indian restaurant I've been in stateside where I was 100% sure the saag was made from fresh spinach (not frozen or canned). Based upon what others have told me, and reading other reviews on here, I went in with the expectation that I would have a reasonable cost lunch, but I was mistaken.
