Tresla G.

After eight years of eating at restaurants in Natomas, many friends had encouraged me to try India Oven. Today, was my first dine in experience. I walked in late in the evening, 8:15pm on a Sunday evening to be exact. My server, Manooj very handsome I must say was very pleasant and kind. I knew exactly what I wanted, so he did not have to explain much on the menu. I did notice a small lotus flower on my plate that he served me. I asked what did it symbolize? He explained, the lotus is the country symbol. That they also, have a large banquet hall in Citrus Heights called White Lotus. The ambiance was very family oriented. The restaurant was full with many large families seated. The location was clean. Indian music playing, with a warm and cozy feeling. I enjoyed my food and my first time experience eating. I will be back for their lunch buffet.

Lovely cultural decor. Very pleasant host and wait staff. Fast and friendly service. We ordered the vegetable pakora appetizer with great tasting sauces (I didn't care for the batter). The garlic naan, rice and butter chicken was super good. Loved this dining experience. Yummy yum yum.

Best Indian buffet ever!

4.5 stars for food 5 stars for ambience 3 stars for service 4.5 stars for value I have recently been to my favorite sushi place and spent almost $90 and left not feeling full. I also went to a different Indian place, spent $60 and didn't end up full. I came here to Indian Oven & spent about $45 for 2 people for the lunch buffet and left feeling full, satisfied, and like the value was well earned. The tandoori chicken was cooked so well, pink and a little smoky flavored. Inside was softer, tender and with a hint of Indian spice. I usually enjoy this accompanied with the raw red onion and dip it in the maroon colored tamarind sauce, taking turns with the bright green sauce. All three complement the chicken so perfectly. I don't eat rice so I ate it with the mashed potatoes which was yellow and delicious. I also ate the mashed potatoes with the vegetables with the yellow looking sauce. Perfect marrying of flavors! They had an Indian restaurants usual MVP player, the butter chicken too. The sauce was really yummy & creamy. Usually it seems like Indian restaurants use the leftover shredded tandoori chicken for this dish, which gives the dish more flavor, but this restaurant didn't. It was white meat, cut in squares, dense & dry, so I didn't end up finishing it. I enjoyed the okra. I really wish they had the saag paneer, which is my other go-to. I was a little disappointed because that's at every singe Indian buffet I've been to, and it's one of my 2 favorite Indian dishes. The lamb curry was good, and is usually my favorite, but it could've been a lil more tender and I really wished they used the cut of the lamb that has the lovely yummy marrow goodness in it. I had the garbanzo beans, my usual high fiber favorite, but I can't recall how I felt about that dish. Dishes I seen but didn't try was curry chicken (Hubby loved it), a few pakoras, a few curries, they even had some food I think was from a different country. Like I think I seen chow mein and also French fries. They had a fruit and salad section that had several salad dressings. I aimed for cucumbers to balance my meal and to raise fiber intake to balance all the yummy meaty, creamy lovin. For newbie Indian food eaters, one thing that I haven't ever seen on an Indian menu is beef. I believe Indians deem cows sacred in Hinduism and are a symbol of life per Google, so that wasn't entirely surprising to not see. To end my meal I tried the soothing & warm masala chai which is a rich herbal milk tea. It is so delicious, one of the best I've ever had. I had to take some home in a plastic cup it was so good. And I'm thinking I wish I had it now as the weather cools down. For dessert they had the galub jamun which are balls of sweet carby goodness. I can't eat that due to my sugar levels, but man was it enticing! If they only had the rice pudding there I may have caved in & ate it. That combo is sooooo amazing! Service was a little absent, except for 1 water fill up. I had to get up and ask for stuff. One thing that stands out is how gorgeous this restaurant is from floor to ceiling. They don't spare any wall from decor. It's tasteful, creative, a decorators eye candy for sure. There are booths & longer tables for small groups, medium sized groups, lunch dates, work dates & larger parties. I highly recommend coming here for a lunch buffet to satisfy your Indian food craving for a reasonable price. It's about 25 minutes from where I live, so worth it and about $20 per person.

Garlic Naan
Dan F.

The food here is always great and the service is even better. We're always quickly seated and served. It can be a bit quiet in the evenings, but don't let that fool you, the food here is legit tasty. My recommendation, don't skip on the garlic naan. It's worth the extra bucks to get that buttery garlic goodness

Aloo gobi and punjabi chole
Alison L.

What a gem! The server was so nice to point out the vegan friendly options on the menu. He also told me two dishes would be too much for me which I appreciated, but I wanted the leftovers for later. I had the Punjabi Chole and the Aloo Gobi. I asked for both dishes to be spicy and they were perfect. My friend had the buffet and everything was fresh, flavorful and delicious.

Basmati Rice

3.5 stars since we can't give half stars on YELP. This is the same Indian oven as the one in Elk Grove. You can't tell me otherwise; the menu has the same logo and items. I called once before to ask and they said No we are not. Anyways, garlic naan was the star there was so much garlic just how we like it. We got tikka masala and butter chicken. Very delicious. Good could be hotter though. We came in on a Wednesday evening, and there was only one other person in the whole restaurant, but since we've been to the elk Grove location we knew that the food was going to taste good. My one suggestion is to make sure that the basmati rice is hot enough when you serve it and not to put random cold peas on top of the rice, peas are unnecessary for basmati rice. It wasn't great bitting into warm butter chicken then cold rice. I even stuck my finger Into the middle of the rice bowl to make sure it wasn't just a small piece of rice that's cold, it was the whole thing and the pea was cold like it just came out the refrigerator . Please also fix your bathroom knob there's a whole that's if someone desperate enough can peek right through.

Tandoori Chicken
Jennifer C.

First time ordering food from here. I've been looking for good tandoori chicken, as all other places I've tried, tandoori chicken had no flavor, they did give me lots of chicken... Garlic naan was ok, I've definitely had better, goat curry was good, but everything is kinda expensive here. I also tried kheer but it was my first time so not sure if it all tastes like incense...

Main dining area- it's a vibe...
Charlene G.

First impression: great decor, classy silverware, and spotless water glasses! Food: Tikka Masala (medium heat) was a smidget too hot for me, would order the mild next time. Naan bread is perfect and rice pudding is the perfect amount of sweetness and creaminess. Also came on a buffet day and for $19.25 I would say it's worth it. Chai comes with buffet and was delicious. I'm sure other people share my views about the value because the place was full for Thursday lunch. The wait staff is very attentive and kind! Definitely coming back on a buffet day and will add this to my takeout list!

This time during our dine in we had the most negative experience at this place. We ordered choley bhaturey, 2 pieces of Samosa and the tandoori platter for the dinner. The samosa were very average, the choley bhaturey were good but when the tandoori platter arrived it looked loaded with red color, upon tasting the meat tasted and smelled bad, also the flavors were totally off. We raised the concern with the server and mentioned have had only one bite the whole thing was untouched, their solution to the situation was no refund, they can instead give a curry in exchange which was barely $10-$12, while the platter costed whopping $28.50 plus taxes, which we didn't accept and left the place. This place has a very basic ambience but I always rated this place well due to consistency in taste of their vegetarian food, and always ordered with instructions to go easy on oil. We have decided to never visited this place and would not recommend it either and if you are all this place, please avoid their non-vegetarian dishes.
