We went to the lunch buffet. All around felt disappointed and misled by them. It was a bait and switch. We don't recommend and will not go back. For deeper explanation: The price was decent on the takeout menu that we got a few days prior, so we decided to give it a try. But when we called before driving over, we were misled about the selection, both regarding dietary restrictions and selection in general. And when we arrived, we were told the coupons were not valid not the complimentary drink, because those were old menus. But it was same flyer one of the staff gave me a couple days before and that they had at the front of the restaurant which I grabbed to double check pricing and deals... the fine print said was 2022, which I missed because why would I question that anyway if it was from the restaurant that same day. The food was mediocre... save for the samosas. The bathrooms were not great either, and in need of repairs. And when we went to pay it turned out the price per person was much higher than their flyer stated. There were no signs and no mention of the actual price, even with me carrying the flyer from their front area in with me. The price per person was similar to the Indian lunch buffets that I go to closer to my home, but those places have a much higher selection. The selection at India Palace was very small, which for the expected price was not great, but far worse for what the cost actually was (again, the flyers they hand out are the wrong price!). I'd say food is always very good- but it's a small business so if you are here for the buffet you got to come early when it opens or unfortunately food will likely not be replaced. The catering part of this restaurant ruined my daughter's 5th birthday party this weekend. They were told we would have 100 guests and they brought food that was cold, soggy, and burnt. At 9pm, before many guests had eaten, they packed up the food despite knowing they needed to stay until 11pm. My husband called the owner of the restaurant and he threatened to come attack my husband. Three and a half stars. This was a weekend lunch buffet experience, and we didn't venture into the affiliated store next door. Atmosphere was pleasant-- great service, dressy decor, nonobtrusive music. Fairly small restaurant, maybe ten tables. The mirrored wall works as an optical illusion though. Lamb curry was the star of the dozen entrees offered. Tandoori chicken was okay, a tad dry. The fried chicken and chutney was a close second flavor wise. Vegetable samosas were okay. Standard naan, etc. Basmati was boring. Not terrible, but I've had some spectacular basmati elsewhere. Despite being very basic, plain, and rice-based, the kheer was fantastic. This is by far the best and most traditional Indian restaurant around. I lived overseas for a number of years, and encountering the "Americanized" Indian dishes served by most of the local places was really disappointing. Everything here is well-spiced (you may have to pick out the occasional cardamom pod!). I prefer the full menu over the buffet just because I have my favorites, but even so the times that I have gone for the buffet I have not left hungry by any means. There is usually soup, a selection of appetizer dishes with chutneys, naan, plain and plow rice, multiple vegetarian dishes, a couple chicken dishes and often a lamb dish, and a couple desserts. From the menu, my favorites are all chicken (which tends to be mostly white meat, which I prefer). Their korma is the best I've ever had, and their saag and methi are also wonderful. The chicken tikka and malai chicken, both made with chicken breast, are great lean choices. I'm not big on lamb myself, but friends who often accompany me are huge fans of the lamb chops, and the sheesh kebab and keema matar are also favorites. They are also wonderful at accommodating allergy needs, and with my partner being celiac, it's great to know that the only place you will find gluten in this restaurant is in the actual bread. read more

India Palace has been part of the 21030 culinary landscape for decades and has held up well with the neighborhoods changing demo. We entered and found the place empty. Usually not a good sign. We were seated promptly and got down to perusing the menu. So many options. While deliberating our selections, they brought out pepper crackers with three sauces: BBQ, a red pepper spread and a green spread. Very good start. We ordered the kabob sampler as an appetizer. Menu said its for two. It deliciously gave three of us a taste of Indian kabob with minced kabob meat, tikka chicken, tandoori shrimp , veggies in a tasty mild sauce. Our main courses included a lamb mehti, chicken korma and a tandoor BBQ chicken dish packed with veggies. Basmati rice served family style. In fact, we decided to share and enjoy these delights family style. Great move. We really enjoyed the experience. Great service too! And,by the time we left another half dozen tables were occupied and I noticed a steady flow of carry out business as well. Ambiance ok. I really enjoyed the soothing new age Indian music as well. I called in my take-out order of Shrimp Vinadaloo ($13.95 on their menu) and asked for a side order of naan, which isn't listed on the menu but is typically an extra couple of dollars. The cashier was on the phone and I have to admit I wasn't paying much attention either when I signed the credit card receipt. When I got back to my office I realized they had charged me over $22. When I called, I was told it was for naan.... Yup, they charged me over $7 for a piece of bread. The naan was undercooked. Where are you supposed to go on a Sunday night in Baltimore to get Indian food?? I tried to get a menu online but it was not accessible, so I went for the walk in. The girl behind the counter said it would be a half hour to forty five minutes wait, after looking back at the crowd in the dining room I did not think it would take that long, but I also respected the fact that the chef wanted to make the food as opposed to make a D99 on the menu... So, off to the chairs I went. What did I do in the meantime, you may ask?? Expert pictures of the menu, thank you ;)... The waiter did come over and let me know that I would get a menu with my to-go order, which was nice, but the size of the font on that menu would not be readable on here so... enjoy the menu ;). They actually prepare the food at this location, so keep that in mind when you are looking at your watch. It was one of those moments of me asking myself, do I really have someplace to be?? If I wanted to see the first pitch of the 8:00pm game then I should have left earlier than 7:30 to get dinner... Relax, enjoy some conversation and have some good food. "The Good" - The staff is friendly, professional and above all cool. The waiter joked with the people that he knew, spoke respectfully to someone's parents and handed off some candy to the munchkin that was fascinated by the fountain in the corner... nice job. The folks here are genuinely happy to see you. - The food was very good, flavorful but was not out to hurt you. There was spice when you asked for it but the majority of the flavor came when you are eating and wondering why is it so hot in here?? - The naan was delicious and had the great "almost crisp" on one side and the smooth side ready to get dipped into whatever sauce accompanied your main dish. - I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, naan and Kheer. The main dish came with a container the same size as the main entree and everything was delicious. - They cater ad I think have room to hold some people as well. - Left side market, right side restaurant. The grocery on the left side of the space allows you to get some authentic ingredients to try and tackle some recipes at home. "The Meh" - The website is broken. Lets work on that one ;). Let me preface this by saying I have only tried India Palace for their lunch buffet. That said, I really like this place. The buffet has quite a lot of options including appetizer style items such as vegetable to pekoras, as well as dessert featuring galub jamin and rice pudding. On any given day there are about 10-12 savory options, ranging from slow cooked chickpeas, okra with spices (excellent dish), and of course everyone favorites such as chicken tikka masala, curry chicken, tandoori chicken and saag. Both the chicken curry and chicken tikka are only white meat, which I'm sure is most people's preference for those types of dishes. The sauces are both rich in flavor and great on top of basmati rice. I also really like the tandoori chicken, which is the spicy rubbed pieces of drumstick and chicken thigh then charred on the grill. Combine that with the mint chutney and you have quite an explosion of flavor. I also appreciate that their saag is usually just plain or might feature potatoes, because I am really not a fan of paneer (the cheese). Everything I try at India palace is always good, regardless of whether I am familiar with the dish or not. The price also can't get any better - $9.95 for all you can eat! read more

India Place offers solid northern Indian cuisine. The selections on the menu don't venture from what you'd expect, and food isn't as highly spiced as it could be, but the food is well-crafted and satisfying. We've eaten in and taken out. Since the dining room isn't transcendent (but it's not bad, either) and the take-out experience is so good, we favor the latter: the food is always ready when they say it will be, and without prompting they include chutneys with orders of papadum, raita, and plenty of attractively presented basmati. Our orders can be large, but they've never made an error. I consider India Palace to be an oasis in the desert - they are an enjoyable alternative to the predominately bleak food offerings in and around Cockeysville. read more

We've been here a few times, hoping that we caught it on a bad day- and there's not much Indian up our way; Kathmandu Kitchen delivers to us, and they're good, but we like to check out variations on the theme; we're happy Cafe Spice moved up our way! Without fail, we have serious digestive issues due to grease factor every time we've eaten here. They are big believers in using cream and butter, and lots thereof, and boy do they use that stuff! There never seems to be anyone actually dining in the restaurant....which is a little weird. I 've eaten in during brunch buffet, and it's always pretty good, but mostly I utilize this joint for carry out. If they tell you it will be 30 min, it will actually be an hour. Just be prepared. You'll find this is strange, as when you show up to pick up the dinner there will literally be nobody in the restaurant, and no evidence of any other orders. We also ordered the garlic naan (or equivalent...it had another name) and roti. The roti was ehhh and the garlic naan was ehhh as well. I have yet to find a place that has better garlic naan than Trader Joe's. It is weird, best naan ever. RUN THERE NOW!....I take that back....India Gate in Laurel has great naan....too bad the place is kinda filthy.....but the service makes up for that....sweetest service....but that is another review in itself. Overall, decent service.....okay food.....nice 'freebies' like the cracker thing and the weird donut ball things that arrived with the bill. They were like half fried donuts that were soaked in a oil/powdered sugar mixture. Wayyyy to oily and sweet. Nice gesture though. I'm a repeat customer. The food is good enough to keep me coming back for more. I can't believe that I never started going to this place until recently. I really missed out on some pretty good Indian food (there really isn't many Indian food places around the Cockeysville/Timonium Maryland area). The customer service is little above average. I haven't had any rude or disrespectful waiters, most everyone has been friendly. The only possible downside is that it sometimes takes them a little long to get the food out to you (that's why I'm not giving this place 5 stars, other than that the food gets 4.5 out of 5 stars). I do find myself waiting a few minutes longer for my food than at other places. **It's not that bad though if you don't mind waiting** I would definitely recommend this place if you're not rushed for time and are in the area looking for some Indian food. read more

Compared to the other Indian Food buffet option in the Hunt Valley area (next to Starbucks) this is the clear winner. Not only is the lunch buffet MUCH less expensive, its served in a nicer environment (no dirty towels for table cleaning here!) AND the food is much more flavorful. I travel a great deal, and go for Indian buffets when I can find them...I would rate this second only to Bombay Bistro in Austin Tx for food quality and flavor in my nationwide survey so far. The "Palace" is not what it used to be. The entire experience including food and staff has become very mediocre at best. The food seems to be getting spicier but not in a good way. It's like the chef is just adding hot pepper to everything...spices should be layered and add to the flavor. Our server was hovering to the point of annoyance. I could understand if the place was crowded and he was tactfully trying to turn over our table --- but there were plenty of available tables. I recently dined at Indian Palace. I usually go to Cafe Spice, but the wait was awfully long so I gave this place a try. THE GOOD... -easy to park -seated promptly -water was refilled without asking -staff was friendly -naan was good -paneer tika masala tasted pretty good -prices were fair THE BAD... -the food took forever to come out...very, very slow -music they played was awful -about an hour or so after eating there I had a bad stomach ache...frequent bathroom trips! Overall, while dining at Indian Palace I thought it was good, but the post-meal feeling wasn't a pleasant experience! I don't know what it was they put in the food, but it didn't sit well with me. I've never felt like this ordering the same entree from Cafe Spice. Because of this I really don't know if I'd return. read more
