I try to come here every time I am in El Paso. It has become one of my favorite places to eat. The food is great, the service by the owner is awful. I resent that this place seems to have a monopoly on Indian food in the city. The costs of additional naans and refills (even when you don't want them!) will easily have you spending well over $50 just for two entrees. Also, I feel like the owner of this restaurant is classist because of the restaurant's location in a more upscale part of town. He selectively seats those who he thinks are worth his time (and will buy more). My parents and I were visiting El Paso and decided to stop by for the weekend lunch buffet. There was very little variety, the food tasted bland and watered down, and the tandoori chicken tasted microwaved. My husband is an Englishman and we have eaten Indian food all over the world. By far the best. We usually go with friends so we get to order several dishes. If you are a first timer here are some of our favorites: chicken marsala, chicken or lamb korma, shrimp bhuna, dal turka, lamb vindaloo or lamb rogan josh. Too many grest flavors to list them all. Horrible place, if I can I will give negative rating. When I checked the items in buffet they are few for the price, however I expected at least food will be fine. Not at all, for example they have 2 rice items peas Palav and plain rice. Can understand peas pulav is gone bad but rice itself not cooked properly. Am writing the review straight from the restaurant. They 3 vegetarian sides with full of tomato purée and broccoli. Gulab jamoon we can use for playing golf. I love Indian food and I was excited to find a place where I could get some near me. I haven't tried the other Indian restaurant in the area yet, but the times I've been here for dinner I really enjoyed my food! I love Saag and there's is very tasty. I will say that I wasn't as thrilled with their lunch buffet as I am with their dinner. They had a wide enough range of choices, but most of them didn't appeal to me that much. Other than that minor gripe I love eating here! I will end up trying something else for dinner soon, but their Saag just always draws me in and I have to order it. Sad to say I visited India Palace and I couldn't have been more disappointed. I don't live in El Paso but enjoy Indian food often. Let me say that the service was a bit slow but cordial. We had to request water a couple of times but the waiter was alone so it might be a staffing issue. The saag paneer was terrible! Puréed spinach with a couple of spices that doesn't look appetizing at all. Some sort of vegetable dish is a soupy cream sauce that didn't taste very good. The only thing that did hit the right notes was the tandoori chicken. Fresh hot and juicy as it should be. Two stars for the tandoori, but beside that nothing really worth going for. read more

I went in and got the buffet a couple of weeks ago on the weekend. $10 for all the Indian I could eat? Sweet! AND they had spinach pakora up there! I went through about four plates because it was good, but the aloo gobi was a little spicy for my taste. My main problem comes from the service. It seemed to take a while to get their attention. Nice decor, clean, spacious and delicious food. I ordered vegetable assortment for appetizer which consisted of samosa and pakoras. The portion was generous and tasted good. I also ordered chicken tikka masala and a cheese naan. CTM, although the portion size was on the smaller side, tasted wonderful and the cheese naan was absolutely perfect. It also came with rice which I didn't care much for. Overall a great experience. The greeter and server could be friendlier though. I would take away 1/2 star just for that. read more

Seems like most of the so-so or bad reviews of India Palace were from people who ordered individual dishes rather than the buffet. To me, the only way to eat Indian food is to go to a buffet, because you can try multiple dishes, desserts, and get naan, without having to order anything separately. I've been to Indian buffets in at least half a dozen US states, and have had Indian food many times in the UK, and this buffet, while varying from visit to visit like most buffets, is a solid B or B+, with an A- at times. I've never really been disappointed by this buffet, which is not something I'd be able to say about at least a couple of others I've tried (in other states). read more

I have to say, I had really high expectations for this place going by the reviews. I went with a group of friends and we were all surprised at this visit. We didn't all arrive at the same time so some of us had drinks and some didn't. That was fine, at first. Then a waiter came and started putting plates down even though some of us didn't have drinks yet. Then another guy (I'm thinking the manager?) came and said no, they haven't ordered yet! But then they both went away and nobody took the other girls' drink orders. We sat for about 10 to 15 minutes before they came to take our orders. The wait for food wasn't actually bad, it was a normal wait. Then when they started bringing food out, they put about 3-4 dishes of food in front of one of us who had ordered something small because she wasn't that hungry. She asked them about it and the waiter said yeah, that's all yours. One girl didn't have her food brought out yet so we all waited for about 5 minutes, thinking they were bringing it out and we didn't want to start eating without her. Then they turned the AC on pretty high, and it was already chilly so that was unpleasant. Finally the girl with the huge plates of food asked the manager (not the one who told her it was part of her meal) and he said oh, no that goes to her, and this plate goes to this girl over here who got some platter of some kind. So our food got kind of cold what with the waiting and the AC on high. The food itself was kind of strange; none of us had ever had bright red curry before. My masala was also bright red. It tasted OK but it definitely didn't live up to the hype expected from the reviews here. Several girls (the ones not drinking water) had to ask several times for drink refills. And not several times because they finished their drinks a lot; several times for ONE refill. At the end of the meal the manager came over and asked if it was going to be all one ticket or if we were paying separate (he had one ticket in his hand) and when we said separate, he just handed the ticket to one of us and left. We handed it around the table and figured out who owed what. He took one girl's card and came back about 5 minutes later and left again. When he finally came back he told us all to come up to the register and just tell him what we ordered and he'd just ring us up there. Now I know that 7 people is a big table, and we should have said at the beginning that we wanted separate checks if that's what we wanted. Despite that, I feel like we got bad attitude for most of the visit. Since I didn't really like the food and I definitely didn't like the service, I won't be back. read more

This restaurant is beautifully appointed and comfortable. The service was quite good and very hospitable, coming from overseas we have come to expect the utmost of hospitality in Indian restaurants. The menu had many choices, including a nice choice of vegetarian dishes. We started with veg samosas which were gorgeous!! Our meals were fantastic, and a brill value for the money. The restaurant came recommended by a coworker who really enjoys the indian food here. I went there for their lunch buffet. I believe the price was about $10. The selection was small, but this is typical for indian buffets. They had 2-3 chicken items, and 5 vegetable items. In addition, they had 2 types of naan, regular and garlic, salad, and some indian deserts. The food was okay overall. I'm a little biased for indian food. Being from Chicago, one of the best cities for ethnic food, and being assigned to El Paso for work for 45 days, I had to search out and find a good Indian food joint. I was excited to find this place on-line. Most reviews were good, even though it was mentioned that it was a little pricey. Nevertheless I gave it a shot, not minding paying extra if the food is good. I ordered the Lamb biryani. The biryani was a little bland and had maybe 4 pieces of lamb chunks. Something was missing....so I asked a lady that was standing by the buffet stand if I could get a little achar (Indian spicy pickle) on the side. She first looked confused, but when I described what achar was, she told me that she would have to charge me for it. I asked her how much, and she said $1.75! Achar is condiment usually set out for free. So to make my $14.95 biryani taste better, I would have to pay an extra $1.75. No thanks! I just wont come here again. Problem solved. read more

I'm frankly baffled that Chut Ney has four stars while IP only has 3.5. India Palace has atmosphere, ambience and cozy lighting in spades, and the food is among the best Indian I've had at the 20 or so Indian restaurants I've eaten at from coast to coast. The lentil soup is unbelievably flavorful, their garlic naan is to die for, and I've yet to have a curry I didn't love. It's one of the few restaurants this picky dude tries to eat at weekly. read more
