I was excited to try this restaurant for the 1st time and it was a pretty big miss. The crunchy bread/onion sauce complimentary appetizer that was brought out was delicious and a very nice touch! I ordered the lentil soup and Paneer Tikka Masala (spice level hot). The soup was just okay, maybe a 3/5 star. I've had better but it wasn't "that bad". The Paneer Tikka Masala I was served was a DISASTER!!!! It had no bell peppers or onions at all in the gravy, even though the menu description included them. The sauce was Luke-Warm at best, and it had ZERO SPICE. After requesting a "hot spice level", no spice powder at all. The employees handled the situation graciously, which I really appreciate. I offered to pay for the soup and then leave the restaurant. Despite the kind gestures, serving a dish that bad is completely unacceptable. I've eaten at a LOT of Indian Restaurants and this had to be the worst Paneer Tikka Masala I've ever tried. read more

Samosa chaat had no distinguishable samosa in it just some soggy resembalance, Soggy veggies from a can like Dinty Moore stew, extremely salty and resembling dog food, actually, we believe that they served us recycled food from the weekend crowd. We had to spit it out. Papdi chaat was all mashed up and salty ZERO aesthetic appeal. I can't believe that these people call this food let alone Indian food. I know that they would not serve it to their own families so don't try serving it to me and thinking it's going to pass because I'm white. Absolutely no Indian ingredients, no hari mirch, no dhaniya. Just hands down DISGUSTING. We offered to pay for the appetizers even tho we only ate a few bites and left before the main dishes came. To their credit, they did not charge us for anything. I normally am not a fan of Indian food but this place was delicious. You can tell it's very authentic and pride is taken into preparing the dishes. Appears to be family owned. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was delicious. Will take a picture next time. I highly recommend trying a piece of naan with your dish. They have about 20 different naans to choose from which is incredible. Never knew there were so many. My friends told us about the Mango Lasi which is a mango drink. Let's talk about my butter chicken...it might as well have been a soup. There were a few tiny pieces of dark meat chicken that were very greasy. We waited quite a while to be seated, but the staff was kind. Unfortunately, that was the only positive. The paneer naan was chock full of cream cheese--soggy and burnt at the same time, and the mango lassi tasted like it came out of a can--metallic and syrupy sweet (my eight year old drank a sip and couldn't touch it again, and she's a lassi fanatic). Worst of all was the completely flavorless paneer makhani. It's my favorite Indian dish and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Also, it came out with chunks of rice IN it (rice is served on the side) which made me feel like it was possibly recycled. I'm confused how this place has any positive reviews. Discovered this place whilst in the convertible on our last trip to Greenville. Smelled it before I saw it .... knew we'd have to check it out on a future trip. Made that a reality today, and so glad we did ! Was so excited to find the lunch specials were available on Saturday. Stepping inside, it literally feels like you're in India with all of it's fascinating décor. It was honestly magical. The food was also AMAZING. Visited for the first time last night; I had been meaning to for years but never got around to it. Seeing as yesterday was Holi, I figured, what better time? I met some folks in line who have been regulars for around 30 years, and they had nothing but praise. I had no complaints about my visit, either. The service was not the fastest but everyone was personable and they seemed to be taking care of everyone as best they could on a Friday night/holiday. This is more of a neighborhood place to me, meaning I'll eat or order here if it's convenient for me, if I'm in this neighborhood, but not so much a place I seek out. The food is fine, there's just no "wow" factor. I rarely order takeout, but India Palace is one of few places I get takeout from. While the interior has some style, in general the restaurant is a little tired/ While the food is all fine, I've never had anything bad, I've never had anything blow me away, either. Prices are generally average, but for the wine they offer (lower end) the prices are a bit much. I eat here, but it's not a place I crave to return to. There is no lunch "buffet" but instead, lunch "specials" are offered. We tried India Palace once at lunch but weren't impressed with the bang for the buck versus other local buffet options. Service is a little bit slow, which at lunch, is kind of an issue, and hence the buffet provides some built in time comfort which is missing here. I do think they could refresh this restaurant, the menu, the interior, maybe the wine offerings, and make this spot more impressive if they wanted to increase sales.
