At some point in time this restaurant may have been good - a time when there were not too many Indian restaurants in either Boston or even on the entire east coast. Vestiges of that past glory remain but the food is certainly not anything to write home about. Not over-priced or anything but certainly lacks the authenticity of many other Indian restaurants that I have eaten in. Lackluster samosa chaat, rotis and daal. Can do much better. I ate Indian food for the first time at India Quality. India Quality. What a funny name when you think about it, yet so apropos - short, sweet, and to the point. Find quality indian food here, it says to me. I tried to never have the same dish twice. Chicken Tikka Masala with succulent fall at your finger tips meat, Tikka Saag with the green spinach that's oh so perfect to scoop up in naan, Coconut Korma rich and savory. I must admit, however, that the East Asian in me mixed everything with a full plate of rice and piled up each morsel with a bit of naan. I once tried vindaloo level spiciness. My friends warned me saying "It's pretty hot.. like really hot" To which I replied, "I'm Korean. We eat spicy food too. I can take it! *beat chest*" Oh how the gods of Indian cuisine smited me for my bravado. Quality is what you'll find at India Quality and when you ask for vindaloo they will give you vindaloo. Food was fine, but I have a bone to pick. I got a $30 gift certificate from a student organization for "Administrative Professionals' Day", and I thought, great, I have always wanted to try this place, that's like three lunches! I went in one Monday when I was broke, thinking, yum, and good time to not have to pay. I had a nice lunch, and when I gave them the gift certificate, they said, that's too much. I said yes, give me change or deduct the amount. No can do. They refused to do either, saying, they just couldn't possibly be writing out reduced certificates every time someone didn't use the whole thing! Can you imagine, all the time it would take. So I was faced with forking over my thirty dollar certificate, which had been bought with thirty actual dollars! Already paid to them! or paying my last 12 dollars in the bank. I finally decided to pay, I didn't want them to get a 20 dollar tip! But I was livid, and I still am. That was perfectly good money, and I have NEVER heard of a gift certificate that requires you use the whole thing! To add insult to injury, they accidentally overcharged me, canceled the transaction, then charged the right amount. As I mentioned, I had 12 dollars in the bank, and by the time the cancellation went through, I had already been charged an overdraft, and I am still working on sorting that out, a week later. If you actually look at the descriptions for each 1-5 star rating and line up your actual experience/opinion of what you are reviewing and your final score of that establishment you might end up giving a pretty shitty rating. This seems to happen to me a lot. I'm really not this picky in real life. Well, I am but I am going to lie with impunity here because this is the internet and you probably don't know me anyway. This review could be about my entire, broad sweeping, all encompassing, general dislike of Indian food. I think there is just too much going on for my taste buds to handle. Or maybe I have never really learned to order correctly, or still have not been to a decent Indian place. Indian food = all looks, smells, taste the same to me. This spot, was dead quiet and seated us in moments, had our drinks in moments, had our appetizers (Samossa) in moments (scary fast, DING of the microwave?), had waiters that liked to stare at my wifes boobalas - not glance but rather shoot really creepy stares, had various curried things served to us that may or may not have been the described meat products (goat and lamb) and had us feeling rather rushed in and out in under 30 minutes. So we ordered food for 4 people and happy to find food was ready as we reached there to pick up. But very disappointed to see the quality of food. We ordered garlic naan and instead they packed some tandoori bread which was literally overcooked and hard to eat. A real gem situated in Kenmore Square. Their chicken tikka masala is a must try and a terrific dish to start with for the uninitiated in Indian cuisine. The flavours are intense and complicated; resulting in an exciting little dance on your fired-up tastebuds. The chutney also packs a real punch in terms of spiciness and is the perfect complement for dipping the lentil crisp in. Basmati rice is always plentiful with every order, and I absolutely adore the colorfully exotic grains which are pretty and appealing. Service is always impeccable by the staff and best of all, they even offer a 10% student discount for us financially-deprived college folks. I usually visit every 2 weeks when my craving for "quality" Indian cuisine strikes. One star off since the dishes tend to be a bit too greasy. read more

Oh joyous India Quality!!! I've been coming here for 4 years, have been getting the same thing almost every time and have had consistently awesome quality and service. The waiter always recognizes us and on this occasion remembered our order :D Mixed platter includes samosas and other fried chickpea, chicken and veggie delights. Then the chicken korma, spicy lamb vindaloo, rice and garlic na'an (the royal is excellent as well!). Compared to other Indian dining experiences I've had the portions are great, the food is not too salty, the sauces have the right proportion of yogurt, and the staff is always attentive. There is a beer and wine license as well, and all things included costs about $65 (1 app, 2 entrees, rice, naan, 1 gl wine, 2 beers). Be prepared to get very full! read more

I'd recommend going to the restaurant--we really enjoyed dining-in (the service was wonderful and the food delicious), but certainly I've never order delivery ever again! I called the restaurant and let them know of the 2 missed orders. They were very gracious and offered to re-send the two items, and I felt bad about them going so far so I ordered a chicken tikka masala again even though it wasn't good last time (I love this dish). This time the chicken was good--not chewy, and very tender, and the sauce was creamy and perfect. However, my experience was ruined by the delivery guy who asked for $5 tip on a $20 order and said he was driving really far from Boston and has no other job on certain days... I got a call from the restaurant the night I made the order (Jessi, I believe) who thoroughly apologized for the driver's behavior. He said that the restaurant pays for tunnel fees so the driver shouldn't have complained about it. He also said they fired the driver. Although I feel sort of bad that the guy was fired, he clearly didn't appreciate his job and I hope someone more appreciative of having a job is hired. Read the review and went to the restuarant, TOTALLY WORTHLESS. I have learnt that when you check the restuarant review you should check who wrote it. I know its tough to figure the nationality but atleast try to. No offence meant but if the natives give a 4 or 5 then its worth the try and you know its close to authentic food. Ordered Vegetable masala and Shahi paneer. Both the dishes tasted the same. Add nice red colour to look attractive. They have the same pre-made masala to which they just add the vegetables you ask. Came in for the first time on Friday night around 6pm and was seated right away. The server was very knowledgeable about which appetizer and entree options were vegan, which is always very much appreciated! We ordered samosas to start, which were really good. My husband ordered tofu bhurji (medium) and I ordered aloo matar (mild). We were extremely happy with both options. The service was also on-point. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I will be back often! My only suggestion would be to label the menu with which vegetarian options are or can be made vegan. read more

I have now been here twice, and I do agree that this place serves the best Indian in town. The lunch prices are very reasonable and include coffee or tea. Be careful what you wish for with the vindaloo; when they say it's spicy, boy do they mean it! But overall, the flavors are delightful, the service great, and they gave us these yummy little bowls of lightly spiced cabbage and onions, and a cucumber and tomato salad. Went out with a friend I haven't seen in a long time. She suggested the restaurant, supposedly the best in Bosfon. Ordered samosas, lamb curry, garlic naan. First off, the samosas were not samosas. We expected some nice, triangular shaped pastries. Instead, we got a plate overflowing high with this mushy mixture of raw tomatoes, chickpeas, and cilantro. It was overly sweet and sour and absolutely nothing like an actual samosa. The nan was fine and the curry was fishy tasting. TL;DR - Saag Paneer will make you love spinach Every year I make a return trip to Boston, and every year India Quality is a viable option. This year, for my friend's 28th birthday we decided to return as everyone loves it. While pouring over the menu, the 5 of us (two couples, one single) decided since we love Saag Paneer and were just going to share everything anyways, why not the Dinner for Four. It started with choice of the two soups - Lentil or Coconut. The Lentil is a nice, hearty soup that would have been better during a colder night. As I prefer sweater things and love coconut, I was far more partial to the Coconut soup, which felt more like a dessert as it was a cold soup. The table was then given the feast of appetizers: chicken tikka, samosa, saag tikki, vegetable pakora and chicken pakora. Without the menu it was difficult to identify any of these, but they were all good. The chicken was a bit easier to pick out, but even the fried vegetable patties were excellent. Right after that the main course was literally tossed onto the table: lamb bhuna, chicken curry, baingan bhartha, dal makhni, saag paneer, poori and basmati rice. The lamb was nice but didn't wow me; always a fan of chicken curry, though I prefer their chicken coconut korma; one of the vegetable dishes had a bit of heat to it, which was nice and actually went well with the lamb. The saag paneer again was one of my favorites. I wasn't a fan of spinach until I got it here - the flavor of the vegetables is just perfect, and the bits of cheese are just a nice treat as you try not to hog the bowl to yourself. As for the bread dishes, the Dinner for Four comes with Garlic Nan and Poori. The garlic nan is a staple that will follow you well after the evening. The poori we had never ordered before - what was presented to us was two huge balls of fried dough - that turns out were filled with air and instantly deflated into a fried dough slightly greasier than the nan, but also quite good. We also got an order of the Royal Nan, which as I said last time, is just a great nan to enjoy by itself. For $81, and filled 5 of us with enough that a 6th could also have enjoyed, the Dinner for Four actually a great deal. Of course, when you add on the large beers, you do pay more, but $20-$25 per person still isn't bad for a feast. I went there with a friend and we ordered for a Lamb Kebab and Chicken Tikka kebab. I asked our server if the kebabs are soft, and he said and I quote him here, "Of course." Mind you, Both of us are huge kebab fans and thats one thing i always get when i go out for Indian food, and not many places do it good. Quantity was a lot, the kebabs looked tasty, and the naans served with it were very soft, but, oh my god, the lamb kebabs! HARD AS STONES. Complete turn-off. Went there for an early dinner on a Saturday. We read the excellent reviews on Yelp and thought we would go check it out. The food was below average, and very bland. The kebab platter we ordered was horrible, the kebabs were not fresh and the meat was tough. The chicken curry was soooooo bland, we actually sent it back. (Again we had expressly asked him to make it spicy), so he throws in a few green chilis and sends it back in under 3 minutes. Only the Indian Bread (Naan) was decent. The service was absolutely horrendous. While taking our order the waiter actually took out his phone to answer a personal call!!! Absolutely atrocious. In addition his shirt was untucked and frumpy and it almost seemed like he had just woken up. In addition there was someone at the bar wiping and cleaning glasses extremely noisily and waiters were cursing each other near the kitchen entrance. Again I'm Indian, so I knew what they were talking about, and no self respecting business should be run like this. Overall it was a horrible experience. Never going back there again. Eh. Had my first experience here last night. We waited in line - no host/hostess - for about 20 minutes, at 9pm on a Saturday night. Considering this was an off-peak time, I'd imagine the 7pm line was longer. We sat directly in front of the door and beneath the sub-woofer -- this place plays generic world-type pop all night long. We ordered pakoras, samosas, and garlic naan, as well as individual entrees. Me and a fellow vegetarian split a korma dish and a lentil dish - both somewhat uninspiring. The boys got chicken tikka masala and lamb and seemed satisfied, although both dishes seem hard to mess up. The pakoras were good, the samosas were very good - very light, not hard or greasy. The garlic in the naan was very strong -- I love garlic, but this overpowered the other flavors in the food. There were a dozen waiters buzzing to and fro, but it still took a special request to get my Diet Coke refilled. If you're in the downtown area, this is a nice, authentic place to grab Indian. It's far better than Rani or Gourmet India in Coolidge Corner, and a bit cheaper than Kashmir (although Kashmir beats India Quality in atmosphere and food quality). BUT - if you're without time or geographic constraints, I'd recommend India Palace in Somerville's Union Square for a similar experience, no wait, and the additional HUGE bonus of several flat-screen TVs broadcasting Bollywood music videos. Their korma is better, they have more choices for naan, and the service is superior. read more

Ordered takeout tonight and not only was it ready in 15 minutes but it was still piping hot by the time I got home. I honestly almost felt like I was cheating on my boyfriend since he is out of town and I ordered such great food. :-X TIP: Order their Chicken Tikka and Shrimp Curry and you won't be disappointed!!! I have also tried their Eggplant special which was okay, and their Saag is always a little not as creamy and under-flavored compared to other places. The only other thing I have to add is if they used fresh shrimp instead of frozen shrimp soaked in whatever-you-name-it distilled solution. We were craving Indian food after spending a day touring Boston. We found India Quality because it had such great reviews here on Yelp. We were seated very quickly on a Sunday evening and the service was fast and friendly. The food, however, was pretty bland and tasteless. I tried both the Dal Makhani and the Chicken Tikka Masala. The Dal Makhani tasted like a can of cheap lentils. I'm pretty sure a can of Progresso would have been 10 times better. The Chicken Tikka Masala was honestly the worst I've had in my entire life! If you are the owner of this place... I would highly recommend you read this review. I ordered via foodler.com last week. I have to say that the QUALITY of the food has degraded to an all time low and the drivers are complete jerks. The driver got the food stood across the street and refused to come to the building entrance to deliver the food. What is the point of delivery and why do I pay for delivery you freaking jerks!! If you can't come to the door of the building. I understand if you can't come to the apartment because of all the snow. I call the manger and report this and the manager started defending the driver. I did not want to argue so I hung up... Now let me get to the worst part, I ordered Kadai Paneer and Roti and instead I get some strange meat with the paneer.I was grossed out by the disgusting meat (Smelly lamb or goat ) probably from the buffet. AT A DIRTY TABLE WITH DISHES & CUPS FROM THE PREVIOUS DINERS!!!!! Rest of our dining evening just as sketchy. Scenario 2: I ordered 2 appetizers & 1 entree. I get one of them at the beginning along with the complimentary papadum. Our entrees come along, still no 2nd appetizer. Our waiter told me that I received my appetizer. That he *personally* brought it to us. We didn't receive it & all our dishes were still uncleared so he could count if we received everything. When we asked for the check. They brought us tea (thinking it was complimentary for the craptastic service). When we got the bill, we saw we were charged for it. At this point, I didn't feel like arguing for the $3 back. My normal go-to's are Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer (sharing the two) but my friends didn't want either of those. To split the difference, I decided to try the Chicken Tikka Saag. As I said above, the flavor was good but it was way too hot for me. Also, the chicken was red which I found odd. --Mango Lassi: I basically was forced to order this after my food was so hot. It was not that great, and it was quite expensive. --Rice: that came with the meal. Tasty but there were weird red bits in it. I avoid food coloring and I don't know if it was food coloring or spices--but it didn't have any extra taste. So that sort of creeped me out. --Price: Way too expensive, in my opinion, but maybe I'm just not used to Boston Indian food prices. --Timing: OPEN LATE! Which was awesome. The food here is SO good. It's not cheap, but hey, you're paying for good food. I always order two meals at a time (big boy here), and I have mouthgasms every time I eat the Saag Paneer. Having walked past India Quality and smelled the intoxicating aroma's on several occasions on my trips to Lower Depths my boyfriend and I always said to each other "We should try that place". We are definitely people who like to try different restaurants all the time and don't like to stick to the typical American fare if possible. After walking to the Lower Depths and seeing that, sadly, our fave bar was filled to capacity with no room to spare we decided tonight was the night to FINALLY try India Quality. My boyfriends brother was with us, and he is not quite as adventurous when it comes to food as the two of us so we were hoping there would be something on the menu he would enjoy as well. We walked in and we greeted right away. The waiter got a table ready for us and we were sat within 5 minutes which in a restaurant of this size was pretty good. Although the restaurant is small it did not feel claustrophobic or crowded which was nice. We decided we were just going to push my boyfriend's brother a little and decided to give him a little taste of traditional Indian food and ordered the Paneer Nan. In my opinion you can't go wrong with homemade cheese and spices stuffed inside nan bread. Our waiter came over very quickly and we ordered our beer and nan bread without much of a wait at all. Another waiter brought over a selection of three dipping sauces but offered no explanation of what each was and their ingredients. Having a member of our table with a slight nut allergy that was not good! Tip to the staff, explain the dipping sauces...newbies to your restaurant do NOT know what they are and what are in them! Our appetizer came over and the amazing smell that wafted to our table with it was truly spectacular. The nan was nice and soft and easy to pull apart and the inside was perfectly spiced and tasty very good. I was expecting or maybe should I say hoping for a bit of a stronger cheese taste but it was still very good. We ordered our main meals. I got the Chicken Coconut Korma (mild), my boyfriend ordered the Lamb Methiwala (medium), and his brother stayed on the safe side and ordered the Beef Kebab. My Chicken was moist and flavorful with just the right amount of spice and coconut flavor. I sometimes find that Indian restaurants are a little heavy handed on both accounts when ordering a dish like this, but this was not the case in this instance. My boyfriend must have loved his meal because he seemed to be eating his as if he had not seen food in a week and I heard mumbling of mmm's and this is really good coming from his full mouth from time to time. His brother was very impressed and equally surprised at how much he enjoyed his meal. The worst part of our meal was probably how long it took once we were finished to finally get our check. Now a word to all restaurants...PIXI STIX will bring the customers back! They have a big thing of pixi stix and dum dum's. I mean seriously I felt like a little kid on halloween and I loved every second of it! I grabbed a sensible handful, as did the rest of my party, and walked out ripping open the pixi stix and walking down Comm Ave with my head held back and pixi stix in the air with the colored sugar pouring into my mouth happy as can be. Best. Indian. Food. Ever. My friend swears by the extra spicy chicken tikka masala, and I am a huge fan of the chicken korma and tandoori grill. I have yet to have a bad meal here in over 4 years. The naan is buttery and absolutely mouthwatering, and the basmati rice is fragrant and fluffy. Prices are good and portions generous. Can't ask for more. In fact, I am so spoiled that I can't even set foot in another Indian restaurant without grimacing. If you like authentic Indian food, this is the place for you. They also have lunch special for under $10, which is something heaven-sent for broke students like me. read more

This place is a giant among men. If Indian restaurants were men. The prices may be a little on the high side, but you will see why when you taste the amazing flavors and see the quality of their meats! Straight-up the only Indian food I will eat in Boston. I live near Bukhara and Ghazal... but India Quality blows them both out of the water in regards to food quality. The atmophere is a little weird for dinner, it is set up to look like fine dining... but feels more like a sad hotel lobby Indian restaurant... the furniture is really old but it is worth it for the food... take out is a good option if you live nearby. read more

Standing on the crammed green line on the eve of a Red Sox game makes traveling to Kenmore a very unpleasant experience. I sent a few apologetic texts to Simona S. who was also delayed in arriving... but I was pleasantly surprised to find India Quality not filled with red shirts, screaming children and loud families. It did have a little bit of a college crowd, but what can you expect in Boston in September? I had been to this Indian restaurant before, and remember really enjoying the dishes. And again, it was very delicious- rich in flavor with friendly, attentive servers and an Andes chocolate to seal the deal. Things in particular I really liked is the Chicken Saag and the basmati rice- it has great saffron flavor, comes in large portions and with any main dish (I hate when they charge me extra for rice I know that costs little to nothing.) One of the best Indian Restaurants in Boston Experience: The staff is friendly and there's hardly ever a wait. One time the staff made a very small mistake and treated us to two extra dishes. Food: The food is AMAZING and they give you a lot for a great price! I don't have specific recommendations, because I honestly believe everything I've ordered was tasty. It's really up to your preference. Overall: This is one place I always overeat. The one downside is you will come out smelling like Indian food, but honestly what do you expect. read more

I am here to celebrate my birthday with my family. we order two lamb curry lamb and another lamb and Chicken tikka masala and paneer with cheese and mushroom and corn dish and naan. and it come with rice. i have been to a lot of indian restaurant over years. this places was alright . THe CTM sauce was too thick. and the lamb has too much sauce. I know this places been there for really long time. they are not up to my expectation The favor is there. just not how i like it. if though most india restaurant serve simpler food. I think it depend on the chef cooking. Every places is different.
