I was hoping to give this place a full five stars, but there are some flaws that I hope they can fix. I'll start with the food, spicy, rich and flavorful! I wanted to make sure I tried almost every dish on the menu before writing this review. I'm sure you've all had Chicken Tikka Masala, but you haven't had theirs. The Palak Paner and Butter Chicken are also our favorites. Now for the ambiance, it's small and stuffy inside. They have a swamp cooler blowing in there, but they can definitely use a better ventilation system. I would not recommend eating there if it's hot out because you will leave sweaty. The service is not great either, make sure you have plenty of time to eat there because you will be there for a very long time. If you place your order to go, be sure to give them 40 minutes or more for pickup! Also, maybe this is common in an Indian household, but while people are eating you should not be sweeping the floor and excusing them to get underneath their feet. It's not closing hours so the sweeping can wait. In closing, a majority of my stars are going to the food! read more

Dined at the Indian Cafe Lodi last night with my husband and we are not only thrilled that there is an Indian restaurant so close to our home but also that it is a great place to eat delicious Indian food. The staff are attentive, courteous and welcoming. The ambience is light and airy with tasteful furnishings. Lovely that it is open seven days per week. If I could give this place negative stars I would. I came to this place about a year ago and gave 5 stars. I went yesterday and they remodeled a little bit. The place was not clean like it used to be. There were flies all over the place. I did order but was a little sketch seeing how dirty the floors and window frames were with dead flies. The veggie pakora came out with a red and green sauce. It was good. I noticed that the main cook kept coughing. No mask on. The flies were persistent. The cook continually coughing while cooking and finally...a hair in the red sauce! We wound up at this place by accident, but were happy we did! We came during the first few weeks of opening, and understand things are getting sorted out. The food was VERY good. We ordered the paneer pakora with "red sauce" (tamarind chutney?) to start, which was very good. Then we had the butter chicken and lamb biryani. Both were excellent, but the lamb biryani was the star. We also had the garlic naan, which was not as good as the rest of the dishes, and a bit burned & bitter. They did not have all the desserts listed on the menu available when we visited, but we understand how complicated they are to make & keep fresh. This was the best Indian food I can ever remember having. I've had plenty from friends and coworkers.. Being a vegetarian you have a lot of options. The quality was wonderful and spice was perfect. Don't let the location scare you away, this is the best Indian food I've ever had. Great portions, rice is actually included unlike Friends, and the chicken was so tender you could cut it with a fork. I go between Elk Grove and the Delta periodically. I have seen that storefront several times but had never taken the time to drop in. So pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the food there.
