Not good at all! We wanted to try something different around the Santa Clara area and thought this would be a good option. Unfortunately it wasn't, the food was terrible. We ordered several dishes like the Butter chicken, Chicken tikka masala and Gobi Manchurian, it was all color dye and tasted "unauthentic". Overall it was a spacious location and service was good, but if the food isn't remarkable, ambiance and service isn't going to matter much. Literally had to go up to the kitchen to ask if we can order and pay multiple times, so was shook when after payment I was prompted for tip. read more

We stopped by Indian Tadka for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our meal, especially the biriyani, which was incredibly aromatic and flavorful. I highly recommend trying their biriyani and pairing it with their excellent tea. The service was efficient and friendly; despite there being only one server, they managed our table well given the light crowd. However, there is a significant need for improvement regarding the cleanliness of the restaurant. We noticed that the table and floors had not been cleaned properly, and there were remnants from previous customers left on the table. Additionally, the menus felt sticky, which detracted from the overall dining atmosphere. While the food and service are certainly worth a visit, a bit more attention to hygiene and maintenance would make a world of difference. My go to spot for indian food, always great portions and flavor. If you're vegetarian like myself, there are many options. There's a lot seating and usually isn't busy. I get the vegetarian biryani which includes two sauces you can put on it. One is similar to yogurt and the other tastes kind of like chana masala. I have been on a Peninsula Chicken Curry Quest (PCCQ) for several weeks now. I happened to be south of the Peninsula, so tried Indian Tadka for the first time ever. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala to go. High marks to this restaurant for friendly service and a clean, pleasant place to eat on El Camino Real. As for the food, I found that, like all the other restaurants I have tried on my PCCQ, the meal tasted better (by a lot!) on the day after I bought it. This review covers both of the meals I made of my order. High marks for the generous portion sizing of both the Tikka Masala and the rice which I ordered alongside. Also, high marks for the pricing of the food (low in comparison to other restaurants I have tried on my PCCQ). However, I found the curry sauce itself, as well as the rice, somewhat pedestrian. Not much in it drew my interest, although the mild spiciness of the curry was a pleasant surprise, particularly on the second day. My rating for this restaurant is drawn down especially by what I experienced as a weird soft, soggy texture of the chicken. The chicken was cut into smaller pieces than I am used to in my chicken curry orders. Other restaurants provide almost kebab-sized succulent chunks of chicken breast or thigh. Can't believe I haven't reviewed Indian Tadka yet! My husband, a true biryani addict, has been searching for "the one" ever since COVID shut down his go-to spot at the Belmont Sports Complex. After countless biryani disappointments, he's finally found his match here--and it's conveniently right next to his favorite market, Hankook. Here's our routine: we drive 30 minutes (yes, just for Hankook), he orders the biryani, we shop for 30-45 minutes, and pick up our food as we're leaving. Timing perfection! Quick tip: they don't open for dinner until 5:30 p.m. Today, we arrived at 4:30 p.m., finished shopping by 5:15 p.m., and ended up waiting in the car until they opened. Happy to find an Indian place nearby that has really good Biryani. I had the goat Biryani which was fluffy, savory and mildly spiced, next time I'll specify spicy, but it was excellent. Samosa was nothing special but this is expected. Also excellent were the Naan's, I had butter and plain and they were hot fresh fluffy yet chewy, just about perfect. Had boneless tandoori chicken as well and it was good, but again, should have asked for spicy, and the raita was REALLY good, glad I ordered extra! I ordered through DoorDash which I would NOT recommend, as they only offer about half the menu. I was interested in the soups, pakoda's and Dosa's but none of these were offered through DoorDash. We ordered samosas, butter chicken, rice and one piece of garlic naan which came out to be about $30. Pricey, especially since rice does not come with the entrees. Samosas were standard and tasted like how you expect them to, good! We asked for the butter chicken to be made medium spicy but there was no spice at all. It didn't have a pronounced flavor, the flavor was there but very light. I also wasn't a big fan of the chicken pieces, it was tender but I felt like it was sitting in the curry for too long that it almost got the way chicken gets when it's almost overcooked, however it wasn't dry because I think they use chicken thighs in this. I just wasn't a fan but my friend didn't have an issue with it. The rice was standard, as expected. The garlic naan is flaky, had fresh garlic pieces on top and was hot out the oven, we enjoyed this. Service was great, it does get crowded later in the evening but when it's empty it's really quiet and everyone can hear your conversations. I'd give it a 2/5 because of the high prices but the food was edible so I'll give it a 3. Unfortunately will not be coming back since I've had better and for less $$. read more

This was an amazing meal! Came in around noon on a Friday and was seated right away. Spacious restaurant with many tables available. We ordered the chicken 65, butter chicken, rice, garlic naan, mango lassi and one other chicken dish the waiter recommended but I forgot the name. The food was delicious! Butter chicken was creamy. The chicken 65 was flavorful. Garlic naan was great as well. The mango lassi was very good not too sweet and it paired well with the food. Came here with a large group of friends on a weekday night. We were able to be seated right away. The parking is ample, but most of the stores next door were closed by the time we arrived (around 7:30/8). We noticed there were other large parties in the restaurant, even one celebrating a birthday with their own cake! The service was quick. There's water already set out on the table for you, although it tasted a bit off. We got mango lassis and our own dishes. I got the spicy dosa. It's huge! I'm a fan of crepes, and eating this was so fun. The spice built up; I could still taste the flavors on my tongue and smell it on my fingers for a while after the meal. The mango lassi was sour, slightly sweet, creamy and mellowed the spice out. My friends got the chicken and lamb on sizzling plates and they smelled heavenly. They had great flavor as well, and came with onions and tomatoes. One of my friends got the chicken biryani and the portion felt like it could be 3 meals, or 2 at least. This spot is an underrated gem for dosa! On a Saturday evening, we were seated immediately. It's a pretty spacious restaurant, so they have a lot of tables. I was craving dosa, so we ordered a Masala Dosa--it was HUGE! Probably the biggest dosa I've ever seen! It's served on a metal service tray and comes with three different dipping sauces and a soup. It was the perfect combination of soft and crispy, light and tasty. It's not spicy. Really enjoyed it! Just a head's up, they only offer dosa and uttappam for dinner. With so many options for Indian food in the Sunnyvale/Santa Clara area, I've been on the lookout for some of the best restaurants, and Indian Tadka was very good! The portions of food were amazing for the price, I easily got 2 meals out of each of the ~$16 entrees we got. Very fair pricing! As you can see you get a ton of food, the takeout bag was very heavy! And the food itself was delicious. What we ordered was pretty spicy which we liked, so keep that in mind if you don't like spicy food. The rice was super flavorful and the meat was very tender and well-cooked. I thought the naan was good but not amazing personally. The staff was also very friendly and helpful as well. Full flavored Indian food at reasonable prices. They have a little of everything here along with dosas. Eating by myself, I tried to max out as much as I could. Garlic Naan ($3.99) - Medium thickness, bubbly, crispy, with a very liberal slather of melted butter painted on top. Garlic and chopped cilantro all over the place too. Recommended for sure! Side of Rice ($1.99) - Indian Tadka does not include white rice with every dish so you do need to order it if you want it. It's a sizable portion, one order will fill a very, very hungry person or you can split it between two people that are moderately hungry. Chicken Tikka Masala ($12.99) - Their version comes in a very thick sauce and they can customize it to however spicy you want it. They used chopped boneless chicken pieces (not all white meat) and they top off the dish with fresh cut, lightly pan cooked onions and bell peppers. The dish didn't wow me but it was a good dish. I would order it again. Must order every time? Dunno if I can say that, but it's solid. Masala Dosa ($9) - This is a real deal here. I asked if they could make the dosa crispy and they said, "Yes, we can make it crispy for you!" It comes with more than enough curry potato filling on the side, three chutneys and Sambar, the spicy lentil soup that warms the stomach. I loved everything with this dish. The dosa was large (shareable), came out bendy but crunchy and they didn't skimp on the potato filing. This could be a meal itself. A must get for the table. Lots of table here, they were quick to take my order and the food started rolling out within a few minutes. It was a lot of food and I was not able to finish it all but it was so worth it. Come with more people and you can try more things! I do love that the menus are on the table before you are even seated... This way you don't have to wait around for them the bring you menus. Stumbled here with a friend because we were craving indian food for dinner! We ordered the samosas, tikka masala, butter chicken, and garlic naan. SAMOSAS (4.5/5): * These were HUGE, bigger than other places. I loved eating it with the green chutney sauce. TIKKA MASALA (3.5/5) * This was good but it didn't taste like tikka masala to us. I love tomato-based flavors but sadly it was not there. There was some spice, but the curry was more yellow and sweet. The chicken was soft and the fresh veggies were a nice touch. BUTTER CHICKEN (4/5) * We liked this better than the tikka masala. The butter chicken was also good and soft, but the curry was much sweeter than expected. Seems like the curries here are on the sweet side. GARLIC NAAN (4.5/5) * I loved the amount of garlic there was on the naan! It was yummy to eat with our curries. Overall, this is a pretty decent spot for indian food. Surprisingly the food here is more affordable compared to other spots, where I'm used to paying $17-$19 for curry. This place is really good. Every dish we ordered was very tasty. We ordered: Onion Pakoras (I have never tasted onions with this type of batter. It was very different from most restaurants in my opinion and it was very good. Light, crisp and not oily. Gobi Manchurian - Nice crispy fried cauliflower served in a spicy sauce. Chicken 65 Lollipops - These were the bomb! Completely covered in a thick, red spicy sauce. Very tasty Andhra Dosa - The dosa had a red hot chutney spread on the inside of the rice crepe. The tasty masala of seasoned potatoes and onions served on the side was good enough to eat plain. The three chutneys served did their job. Not the best but not the worst. Masala Dosa - Crisp rice crepe served again with masala and chutneys I rate this a 4 since they did not have my favorite Rava (semolina) Dosa and the chutneys were not top ranked in my books. After looking at reviews of different local Indian food places, my friend and I settled on Tadka. Between the time that we arrived and the time we left, it took nearly three and a half hours. We didn't even get a menu until 20 min had passed, and it took another 20 min before we could order. We didn't even get water until the meal came, which must have been between 30 and 40 min after that. It seemed like there was only one person doing all the waiting on guests, and the place was pretty full for a Sunday evening. It was kinda weird though as there was no music playing. A little ambiance in the background would have made things a bit more welcoming. We ordered the butter chicken to be safe, and decided to try another dish that neither of us had had before. The butter chicken was top notch, which is what earned this review two stars. The other item, which I don't remember what it was, was more spicy and kind of sour. Not terrible but not something I would order again. The thing of it was that instead of chunks of chicken like in the butter chicken, it had hacked up bones with no meat on them, and there were tiny splinters of bones in the sauce, which I felt was a bit dangerous. The naan was thin like a roti and overcooked to the point that one side just sort of flaked away. Then it took an absolute eternity to get the check, and then make payment. We took the remainder of the butter chicken and rice to go, but left the other dish. When we explained why we weren't taking it too, we were offered a dessert as a compensation, but knowing that would probably cost us another half hour (it was getting to be near 10pm by this point and we had work the next day!), we opted to just leave. So there you have it. An entire evening taken up by an experience whose highlight was the butter chicken. read more

We picked up takeout from here because we happened to be in the area. Zareen's is our normal go to because it's close to us but we decided to venture out a bit. We got vegetable samosas, butter chicken, jeera rice, palak paneer, raita, plain naan, and garlic naan. The experience of placing the order was pretty terrible. I called and it sounded like someone answered then hung up. I called again and got voicemail. My fiance called and they picked up right away...strange. Anyways, we place our order and told it'll be a 35 minute wait. We got pick it up about 35-40 mins later and it's thankfully ready but we have to wait a few mins for the person working behind the counter to take our payment. We were looking forward to trying it but were so disappointed. The butter chicken had good flavor but meh chicken quality. The palak paneer had zero flavor and was so pureed that it looks like an unappetizing green liquid baby food with chunks of overcooked paneer rather than true palak paneer. The naan was fine, but to be honest, I think frozen Trader Joe's naan is a bit better, and the samosas were shockingly salty. The raita was plentiful and solid. The problem is chicken, it is definitely not fresh and tasted weird. I can see it has a lot of red color. Andhra chicken curry is very bright in red color and all I can taste is pepper in that. Chicken biryani was ok and again it has same chicken, which I was tired of eating again and again. Dosa was good and again lentil curry is not fresh. It had been awhile since my friends and I had Indian food- we stumbled upon this spot when looking for a casual spot to meet up for dinner. We went at 5:30, right when they opened on a Sunday and no one was there so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The servers were very kind and the menu straight to the point! We got our favorite, samosas, garlic naan, chicken tikka masala with a side of white rice! The samosas were flavorful and not too heavy- I loved the ratio of filling in them!
