Wow I haven't eaten like this in a long time. My belly is super full and happy. Friday lunch buffet is $24. Good selection of food and some sweets. There is unsweetened tea and mango lassi. They brought us naan once we started eating. Everything was super flavorful! I have had better butter chicken and Chana but for buffet it was good. I especially liked the okra. It was the first time I tried the sweets. I liked the ball better than the diamond shaped treat ( tasted similar to baklava). The green sticky sweet rice was tasty too. Only reviewing selected items based on today's catering. -Konaseema Chicken Fry: very confusing looking dish as I stared at a glop of darkness in the tray. Just couldn't tell what is in there, neither could I know if I was picking up the chicken or the seasoning spices. And why is most of the Indian meat dishes always have bones (except butter chicken or the Tikka Masala)?? Positive note is the dish smelled aromatic and tasted strong but good seasoning yet a bit too much heat for me. -Chicken Tikka Masala: I almost thought we got soup! A flap tray of sauce and I had to fish around scraping to the bottom to find a few pieces of meat! Otherwise, it tasted just like any other tikka masala. -Naan bread is a bit dry and thin, not too fluffy or soft. I had better ones. So I'm still not impressed with Indian food. read more

I went for a weekday buffet to this place. They have a rich mango lassi and chai. Along with a great selection of veg and non veg dishes plus chutneys. I enjoyed the South Indian egg curry and pongal a lot. They bring fresh naan's to your table. If you like paan, this one is very good. I came to UlavacharU for their weekend lunch buffet -- and left already planning my next visit. The variety was impressive, but it was the authenticity and bold flavors that really stood out. As someone who isn't Indian, I wasn't sure what to expect walking in -- but the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. The Babycorn Manchuria was crispy and addictive, the Okra Pulusu was tangy and comforting, and the Tandoori Chicken was perfectly charred and juicy. We went on a weekday for lunch buffet. Best things abt this place: 1. Variety of dishes for both veg and non-veg for buffet, especially veg varieties (appetizers + entrees + desserts) it's unbelievable. They also have a drink (mango lassi etc) and chai. 2. Their food is not too oily or too spicy like most of the South Indian restaurants close by. 3. The quality and taste has been consistent throughout, have been coming here for over 4+ yrs and it only keeps getting better. 4. I have never felt discomfort after eating here, which happens with most buffet places. However, in this visit, the 2 paneer dishes I had, felt that the paneer was stale or old. You just know when paneer is not fresh. This is my only complaint. Highlights for my fav items from the buffet during this visit: - Samosa Chaat: I usually avoid North Indian dishes at this place but this one amazed me, tasted as authentic as it can get - Mysore Bonda: the best, no doubt! - Lemon Rice: tasted homemade and very similar to the ones you get in temples in India - Spinach Pachadi, Tomato Pickle, Peanut Chutney: you won't find the authentic taste in other restaurants - Hakka Noodles: Yum and not super oily, just enough oil Everything offered is at the buffet table, however, naan is served fresh as requested at your table. The garbanzo bean dish with a dense flat cake made of lentil(?) was also delicious. They have $0.10 cent beer?!? That's insane! And who knew beer goes so well with Indian food. I've been coming here for the past decade and I have a lot of memories with friends eating here. The place has stayed timeless and the quality of food has more-or-less stayed consistent. The service is good and the food choices are ok. The place requires a renovation - it looks old. Be prepared to stand outside in the sun (especially on a hot day!) waiting for a table - it gets really busy on weekends noon-2pm. They let us in 20 minutes before the place opened. We ordered the chicken 65. We also got the saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, Dal fry, and butter naan. The meal also came with a free plate of white rice. Overall, I was under impressed. The chicken 65 was the best dish out of all of them. The paneer was flavorless, as well as the chicken tikka masala also flavorless and tasted similar to buttered chicken, which I'm not a fan of. They also served a handful of non-vegetarian options like butter chicken, goat curry, chicken curry and a fish curry. I've been here multiple times for lunch, and the lunch buffet never fails. The restaurant seems to rotate dishes occasionally, but consistent dishes are tandoori chicken, butter chicken, and saag paneer. I think given its buffet style, I was surprised that the food is consistently good. I will say the butter chicken is a bit sweeter than I've had at other Indian restaurants (a little sweetness is good, but the butter chicken curry is a bit too sweet for me here), but everything else is pretty solid. I love that they have chai and mango lassi on tap & both are pretty solid. There's a pretty good selection and there's plenty of vegetarian and non vegetarian options. Have come here multiple times and would definitely come back when I'm craving a plethora of Indian food. Staff seem pretty friendly and are happy to bring my table naan (although usually have to ask). The restaurant is almost always packed so if coming with a big group a reservation might be good. We decided to go here after seeing these great reviews. We really enjoyed the food but I couldn't eat it all! Here's what happened: We were in the car for almost 8 hrs. We rushed to the restroom and my partner ordered for us. He ordered fish but he doesn't really eat fish. He leaves that for myself & my younger child. He only eats one piece. We aren't big spice eaters like my husband. The fish was delicious but I never had spicy fish before. It was hard for me to eat & gulp water at the same time. I couldn't eat the lamb biryani and the chicken Tikka even though my partner said it was delicious. I didn't even eat the okra we ordered. My younger one enjoyed spritzing lime on the garlic naan. I need to try that next time. I should have waited for everything to arrive first before I ate the fish. The pakoras & samosas were delicious and was finished. Best Buffet probably you can find in Sunnyvale, CA. I am from Southern CA where we kind of dried out on great Indian buffets. We were on a trip to northern California and my relatives recommended me this place as best place for Indian buffet, we decided to try it. I especially look out for curry goat which Indian cuisine does very well. Tandoori chicken, Biriyani, Korma, veggie dishes etc...It is a large spread and it is no wonder it is always crowded. Better come at open. Food is the right temp for a buffet too. Not cold. Serious this is one damn good buffet. We used to come for lunch more often but it just got way too busy.
