    Rava Masala Dosa
    Ashwini A.

SERVICE - located on Steven's creek boulevard near the Lawrence expressway and Steven's creek intersection - parking available in lot in front - small interior with seating available for small to mid sized groups - ambiance good for a casual meal - service was friendly though not very hands on during the meal - food served relatively quickly MENU - variety of South Indian mains and small bites - all vegetarian - average price FOOD - rava masala dosa (8/10): thin and crispy wheat based dosa filled with spicy potato masala and served with sambar and chutneys. If you are looking for something to change up your standard dosa order, trying a rava dosa here is worthwhile. It is much thinner than a normal dosa and almost breaks apart into mini cracker like pieces when eating it. The potato masala is soft and creamy and not overly spicy. There is also the option to get the same order but with raw onions added inside. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes, it is a nice place to go for a casual meal.

The plus about this place: - food seemed fresh - prices were reasonable - mainly South Indian dishes - they have added a few items to attract others poori aloo and pav bhaji - I enjoy thali - since you get to taste so many items - the ladies serving us were polite Areas to improve: - the South Indian restaurant competition is very hard in the Bay Area - others have more unique chutney and Sambhar - the ambiance is not the focus - some boxes are kept at the end of the restaurant- like a storage - there is a loud TV with songs and dances going on - you have to pay at the counter (there was no rush - wonder how it will be when it's crowded) - the rava masala was crisp but not as tasty This is a hard business - unless you have a unique flare about your place, there are too many strong competitors for this type of food. Maybe I need to try the thali and a few other dishes - to have a deeper opinion on this place.

I was in the area and looking for an Indian spot for a quick lunch, Yelp steered me here. I am not an Indian food expert, just a fan, and I enjoyed the slightly spicy dosa and mango lassi. Reasonable prices for the serving size. Quick friendly table service, casual dining room.

We visited Meenakshi Bhavan for dinner following a friend's recommendation. It is a relatively new spot specializing in South Indian cuisine, and we had a good experience. The food was great, and the service was quick and friendly. Dishes we tried: - Ghee Onion Rava Masala Dosa (5/5): large portion size, dosa felt light and it was delicious. - Vegetable Kothu Paratha (5/5): good flavor with plenty of vegetables. - Guntur Chilli Masala Dosa (4/5): Very large portion size and it was ok. If you are looking to try Dosas, Rava dosa is a better choice over this.

This is a really good authentic South Indian vegetarian restaurant. If you like dosas and other South Indian items, this new spot (3 months old) is the place to go. It is very clean but is no frills in terms of decor and the food is exceptional. The service is very courteous and kind.

A great restaurant. Only vegetarian. The flavors and the quality of the food is amazing. Every dish was good. Pongal, Upma, Dosa and Poori everything was amazing. If you are around this place you should definitely go. Parking is a bit scarce. So be mindful. Overall a great place for a great price. The flavors won't disappoint you.

To their credit they did not charge us for that item, or the chaat * the Andhra style chili chicken came out as a glob of unrecognizable stuff, and we couldn't even tell what the white strips on top were because they were so mushy * based on the texture and smell the fish they used in the red snapper curry had been frozen at some point--one would expect them to source fresh seafood * the okra was tough and stringy, a sign that they used poor quality okra * the reshmi paratha was dripping in oil/butter, and not hot when it was served To top it all off, they let someone bring a dog into the indoor eating area. Which I'm sure is a health code violation. It seems they've started cutting corners in the kitchen, and it shows up in the product. The problem is mostly back-of-house Jashn had so much potential when they first opened, and it's disappointing that things have gone downhill. We will not be going there again.

One of the items was an item i was going to order separately, but decided to switch it out when I heard it was going to be in the special. The employee helpfully offered some popular alternatives. The food was absolutely delicious! A good amount of spice and not like some of the places more local to me. (I'm from Sac.) We ordered the following: Special Lunch Thali, Pav Bhaji, and Puranpoli. The only time I could've done without was the Puranpoli. I didn't care for the flavor of the spice/sweetness, but that's just me personally. In my naivety I hoped it was some natural food color using beetroot. But I later learnt from them that it was not. It left me appalled at the liberal use of such toxic artificial colors. Colors aside, the chicken itself was delicious. But I will make sure to ask them beforehand next time and order something that doesn't have colors. *naan-5/5- this was amazing. Hot from the tandoor. It wasn't charred at the bottom. It was light and large. It was clear that it was made by someone who knew their craft. I will come back here just for the naan. *samosa chaat-3/5- this made me sick, I had an upset tummy for a few days after. It was hot day so I m assuming they had problems with their chutney or maybe it was the samosa with the potato filling. Upset tummy aside, the chaat flavors were decent, not the best of the lot but decent nonetheless.

First off, the delivery was a smooth process, dot on time and packaged with such precision. Ankush, who runs the show at Delhicacies came to do the honors and as well left detailed instruction on how to go about preparing one of the starter dishes that we had ordered (Bhalle Papdi chaat that is). The menu we chose included Bhalle Paapdi Chaat, Cocktail Samosas, Paneer Tikka Masala, Chana Masala, Baingan Bharta, accompanied by Roomali Roti and Lacchay Pyaaz as a side salad. The Bhalle Paapdi Chaat was an instant crowd-pleaser, with the perfect balance of crispy papdi, fresh bhalle, cool sweet yogurt, tangy tamarind along with green sauces, a secret masala powder and a garnish of beetroot , pomegranate and cilantro. All of these were packed separately and instructions were provided (step by step) to prepare the end result which tasted out of the world good. It was refreshing yet packed with flavors that kept everyone asking for seconds. The Cocktail Samosas were golden, crisp, and filled with a spiced potato mixture that made them an ideal finger food--perfectly bite-sized and not greasy at all. For the main course, the Paneer Tikka Masala (PTM) stole the show with its rich, velvety sauce that coated the tender paneer in just the right amount of spice. The flavors were balanced yet bold, making it a standout dish. The earthy flavor in the paneer made it finger licking good and definitely was the biggest hit of the evening. The Chana Masala had the perfect texture--soft chickpeas simmered in a well-spiced gravy that had just the right amount of heat and tang. Cubes of paneer in there definitely made it a good overall combination and complemented with the PTM. The smoky and flavorful Baingan Bharta added an earthy depth to the meal as well. The eggplant was roasted beautifully, bringing out its natural flavors, which paired wonderfully with the Romali Roti. The roti was soft, thin, and warm, making it the ideal vehicle to soak up the gravies. We did end up heating the rotis in our microwave oven for about 10-15 seconds in batches and they remained perfect in their texture and taste. The Lacchay Pyaaz--freshly sliced onions with a sprinkle of masala--added a crunchy, refreshing bite to balance the richness of the other dishes. Overall, Delhicacies delivered an out of the world authentic North Indian culinary experience with each dish tasting as though it was prepared with care and precision. The food was flavorful, perfectly spiced, and served fresh. Our guests were impressed, and we couldn't have been happier with the quality of food and service of delivery. If you're looking for reliable and delicious Indian catering, Delhicacies should be at the top of your list! Give them a chance and thank me later. You are welcome!!!

The first time we went was for lunch. It was busy but they had a few tables open. We had no idea what to order then and just went with what we saw others eating. It all tasted great then and we loved it. It was very authentic as we were the only non-Indians dining. On this recent visit, it was a Friday evening so parking was very limited and there was a wait. There's a waitlist you can join when you arrive, and it wasn't too bad with our party of 7. Again, we really didn't know what to order beyond the dosas. We did look up a few and asked the server as well. But we were pretty much going in blind again. On this visit, I did notice that someone would go around with refills on the chutneys and what not. So this time we knew to ask for a little more of this and that. My favorites were the coconut peanut one and the ginger one. The restrooms are accessible outside the restaurant, which is a bit of a pain. And there is signage everywhere to monitor your car as break-ins happen often, so that's not the most comforting. I would be amazing if they could offer a separate menu with a few explanations of what everything is.
