Good solid food at a restaurant that has been around since God was a child. I have never ordered off the menus so this review is based on the buffet only. Lunch buffet 7 days a week with a selection that carries only slightly. The food is good and the spice level is to American tastes. They do have seasoning available on the Chat Table. The interior has not changed since Gerald Ford was President. It is well maintained and clean. The staff is efficient. Half are aloof and the others are friendly so hit or miss for me. I came here in a weekend afternoon with a friend. It was ok for a quick buffet. I think I forgot what my experience was (bc we were drinking) so I actually went yesterday for lunch (sober). The service was incredibly friendly. That I remember from the first time too. They bring you free naan and refill your water immediately. The restaurant wasn't busy either time so I was seated immediately. The reason it gets 3 stars is that it's not the very best I've had and there wasn't very much variety. I came here on a Sunday for the lunch buffet. They have a wide variety of indian dishes with all of my favorites- chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, tandoori lamb, and lots of naan! With the buffet you can eat to your heart's content and it doesn't take long to have a full stomach. The quality of the food was meh, not the best indian food I've ever had, not the worst. For dessert the buffet has gulab jamun and rice pudding which was mediocre as well. Basically in all the dishes, all the right flavors were there but nothing seemed to pop the way that indian food is known for. I would like to preface this review with the fact that I am not a regular eater of Indian food. Therefore, I will base this review on the quality of the food, the service, and atmosphere. Service is great! We had several servers waiting on us the entire time. The atmosphere was a little too, well, boring. The style is very plain. The music was too low and you could hear everything going on in the restaurant, almost makes you feel like you need to whisper. They do serve beer and wine, but it's definitely not a place to go and be social, if you know what I mean. The food did come out very fast. Which could be good and bad. Good if you are hungry and can't wait, bad if it's been sitting there pre-made and just heated up really quick. There are TONS of menu items and to possibly have all of that pre-made, waiting for it's microwave visit...now, I am not SURE if this is the case, I am just guessing. With regards to the noms, I liked some of the dishes, mostly the creamed spinach and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Nothing was super spicy, which is sometimes a fear when eating this cuisine. There were tons more things that we tried amongst our smorgasbord of ordering. Being a southern girl, and accustomed to strong flavors and fat goodness, I have to say, a lot of what I ate was on the bland side. But again, maybe that's the way it's supposed to be. As far as Indian goes this had all the checkboxes. I ended up asking for a half a chicken and lamb kabob plate and even though not on the menu, it was done on the cheap for $15 for a huge portion and came our sizzling (see video). The food was great and the naan fresh off the tandoor clay oven. My wife go vindaloo chicken. The mango Lassis were extra tall and wonderful. Revelation Upon finishing the dish, I had confirmed the existence of a dish so good, so delicious, that it deserved the title of "my last meal on earth, even if it went against our culinary heritage. Not knowing how she would react, I gently broke the news to my mother. When she learned that, I loved Chicken Tikka Masala (CTM) from India's restaurant more than any Puerto Rican food. She said in response, "Puerto Ricans are rolling in their graves after what you just said." CTM is the synonym to delicious. Let 'em roll like a ever-growing snowball. Authentically delicious? Perhaps Chicken Tikka Masala is to Indian food what sweet and sour chicken is to Chinese food; ethnic food adjusted for the western palette. Like Weezer, I am singing to myself, "I don't care. I don't care. I don't care." I love Chicken Tikka Masala. My Pakistani friend, Aley, said it was most likely a Pakistani chef who created the dish in the UK, since many Indians are vegetarians. Food Voodoo I want to bring those flavors home, to my kitchen. How I wish I could re-create the complex flavor of the sauce; I imagine it has cumin, garlic, coriander, lemon juice, ginger, paprika, cayenne pepper, and several other spices, all mixing together in harmony to create the best Indian/Pakistani dish ever. The heat is so faint, I can't notice it in most bites. Heavens knows some Indian dishes can turn someone into a professional fire eater overnight. A Viscuous Addiction The ganges river would flow with the creamy tikka masala sauce if it were up to me. Bribing the waiter for the recipe, stalking the restaurant buyer, and kidnapping the chef seem like plausible ways of obtaining that mysterious marinade and tantalizing tikka masala sauce. The flavor is something my 10,000 taste buds can agree upon, pure deliciousness. Naanation It is one of the best flat breads ever. Crispy on the bottom, chewy crust, with big air pockets; it is perfect for soaking up the last spec of sauce. Well dressed waiters, move speedily from table to table and back to the kitchen, holding a tray with fresh naan. How much naan they make in a week would be interesting to know, even though it's naan of my business. Musketeerish Service A well-knit team of waiters and managers oversee the order, delivery, experience, and tab of the restaurant patrons. Their coordination and teamwork is right up there with the musketeers, all for one and one for all. Service is fantastic. Uninspired Atmosphere I'd like to believe that some way, somehow there is a way to merge the bright bold colors of Indian clothes with a fine dining experience. There is no unique features in the artwork, cutlery, or place setting in the restaurant, as Valentino Restaurant does so well, nor does it have the bold modern feel of Mumbai Spice. The default white table cloth over a table with neatly arranged place setting, utensils, etc that would earn the approval of the stereotypical food critic. The neatest touch to the fine dining experience is the "silver" plates that the food is served on in the evenings. This is the first Indian restaurant I went to years ago, and while other Indian restaurants (Shiva, Mumbai Spice, London Sizzler, etc.) have come my way. So I've been told this place is authentic Indian food. I couldn't really tell the difference, I guess that's how the average American treats "authentic" vietnamese restaurants. The meal starts out with 2 sauces to dip in. The red sauce is sweet, while the green is spicy, mix the two and you get a very interesting flavor. For our appetizer my friend and I split one of the chef's sampler appetizer. It came with a cheesy fried cauliflower, probably some of the best that I've had. It also had tandoori chicken and fried dumplings? both were solid. As far as our meal went I had the Chicken tikka Masala and my friend had the Chicken baryian. The two dishes complimented each other very well since the servings were huge I was able to use some of the rice of the chicken baryian and then cover it with some of the masala. Best part of the meal is the Hot towel at the end of meal. The interior is very retro, like it probably looked since they opened. Very 80s ish. I have it a 1 because the food here is actually good. Unfortunately had a terrible experience with the wait staff. We bought a restaurant.com deal and let the staff know. They told us it was not allowed to be used on the buffet, which they never told us nor did it say on the restaurant.com certificate. I asked to speak to the manager as well and no one was able to help and could not show me anywhere on my deal that said I couldn't use the deal. The only thing it said was to spend over $45. The moment I walked in, my nose was greeted with the delectable aroma of Indian scent. Although I felt slightly under-dressed at first with my engineer FRC in the classy setting, I immediately felt comfortable afterwards in the homely vibe from the waiting staff's Indian hospitality. After my excellent dining experience with excellent food and service, I say look no further when you are looking for a great Indian restaurant! To begin, the staff brought us a plate of spicy tortilla-like chips with dipping, which was delicious but it was not enough for the starving me! The official beginning of my meal was an order of piping hot naan ($1.95), which was cut into eight pieces, which reached my expectation of a fluffy goodness. However, the epitome of the meal was my entree of the tandoor grilled lamb chops ($19.95) that came in a surprisingly large portion of five pieces. Aside from the 5-piece surprise, the meat was so tender and flavorful with Indian spices that I almost could not resist just grabbing the bones to gnaw on the remaining meat! But fortunately, I refrained from embarrassing myself in public and packed it for home. In general, the entree is relatively expensive with an average price of $15, but I think it's worth every penny! Perhaps it's good that there is a price deterrent to prevent me from ordering too much because there are many tempting items on the menu. I can't wait to return to experience yet another great Indian dinner here and would recommend both newcomers and veterans of Indian cuisines to try this restaurant out! I think this restaurant is great for someone who's had terrible Indian food and needs an introduction to what quality Indian food is. It's great for that. Since I grew up on Pakistani food, similar to Indian food, I have scrutinizing taste buds. I know what to expect when I order something and my tongue knows what to expect as well. At India's, all smelled great, but the taste lacked some spice. I'm not a fan of spice, but some spice is expected in most Indian/Pakistani dishes. I ordered chicken Reshmi Kebab, which I've had before, and it was simply bland. I finished it in seconds, well maybe minutes, and then I had some of my husband's Lamb Vindaloo, which was a lot closer to what South Asian food should taste like. I loved their Naan and Garlic Naan. All said and done, it's a great place for friends and family who are afraid of South Asian food to get an introduction. Waiters are attentive. Lamb vindaloo (lamb in hot curry sauce), saag gosht (lamb pieces in chopped spinach) and their other lamb dishes are good! It was way too sour and was loaded with sugar. I felt like I was eating a very poorly cooled tomato chaat instead of a good red curry base.The navratna korma had NO salt. I can work around less salt but seriously forgetting salt is sad. Also the navratan korma was filled with nothing but peas and potatoes. Boyfriend and I went for the lunch special after reading the great Yelp reviews. We are very glad we did! We had the butter chicken (chicken tikka masala?) and saag paneer in addition to another chicken dish I cannot remember the name of, and we enjoyed them all. The naan was fresh and wonderful, and two of the staff insisted that we try a potato dish (sat on the table beside the buffet and looked a lot like latkes to me if you're in trying them, but that may just be the Jewish Long Island girl talking). They were great! If I wasn't so stuffed I would've gotten more. The service was a definite 5. Our water glasses were never more than half empty and the waiters cleared our plates within seconds of us finishing, while never feeling hover-y or pushy. I was very impressed. The only star deduction was for the price. Maybe this is typical in Houston, but as a New Yorker, I was a little surprised that the lunch was $32 total and dinner I've seen for around $20/person pre-tax. The difference there seems a bit small, and I would definitely give this place 5 stars if they shaved a few more bucks off the lunch price. Nevertheless, we will be back whenever we want Indian food. Garlic naan is a must try and needs to be requested. All the buffet entries were very well seasoned and tasty and they also included a table of assorted sauces/powders. It would have been nice for them to list out the names of each of the condiments, but after a little experimental mixing, I found a combo to my liking. Not a big fan of chickpeas and their derivatives so only sampled just a little of those dishes. You must try errrrthing at least twice, right? But be warned, on busy days, the lot will get double parked, making it difficult for people to get out. The service is decent, but large parties above 6 people will get charged a service fee and automatic gratuity. Also, the alcohol prices may look cheap, but it is the cost BEFORE the alcohol tax, that gets charged at the end. As for food, they have all different types of naan like garlic, mushroom, etc.! The garlic naan was fluffy and wonderful. I also tried their Navaratan Korma and okra dish. The Okra dish was incredibly flavorful and crispy, and quite amazing. This was my first time trying an Indian buffet. I'm actually not a fan of buffets because I feel like I rarely get my money's worth. I usually only get one plate. Their plates were fairly small so I just had very small servings of the dishes I tried. I don't eat very much. Here they had a great variety. They had chicken curry, lentils, falafel (at least I think that's what it was!), vegetables, dal, rice, lamb, etc. I don't eat lamb so I can't comment on that. I tried some new dishes though like the dal and the spiced lentils. I enjoyed them both! It's nice that they have vegetarian options for those who don't eat meat. I enjoyed everything I tried. But I was very disappointed that they didn't have Chicken Tikka Masala. That's my favorite Indian dish and it's a popular dish from what I understand. Bummer! They also had 2 desserts: Mango Mousse (or Sorbet) and Rice Pudding. The Mango Mousse was very flavorful. The rice pudding was OK but kind of bland. My VERY favorite part of the meal was the fresh, warm, delicious naan bread! It was AMAZING!! I would have been happy just eating that! OMG, so good! This place was clean and the buffet was organized. There was a customer in there on his cell phone the whole time he was eating which was really annoying and inconsiderate but aside from that, it was a great experience! I would definitely go back! If you you want authentic Indian food this this the place to come to. The attention to detail and service is something that I haven't come across in any Indian restaurant, they truly make you free at home. The service was fantastic from the time we sat down. The restaurant was clean and presented well. The samosas had a good flavor and were crispy on the outside like they should be. The chicken were crispy and moist on the inside. The cracker with the tamarind and the cilantro lime sauce were to die for! The sauces were so delicious, they just go on everything! The curry came out fantastic! The spices were developed and we all liked everything we ordered from the korma to the butter chicken to the tikka masala! I liked that they could make my tikka masala with lamb even though it wasn't on the menu. Forget those places they say the sauces are already made with chicken! The naan was good and soft - this was the only thing I wished was crispier on the outside and the garlic flavor wasn't as abundant. Also you have to order the rice and naan on the side cause the curry doesn't come with it.. What are we suppose to eat with it?! It should be included. I went here because the Yelp reviews were so favorable. I had lamb passanda and garlic na'an. The sauce was really tasty and piping hot when it arrived, but the lamb was so tough that the sauce cooled while I was cutting it. Strangely, two of the pieces of lamb were so tender that I nearly broke my plate in half, expecting to be sawing through them like the other pieces. The service was prompt and super-polite. They genuinely wanted me to have a good experience. I'm thinking that perhaps this place is dish and waiter-specific. I might have just ordered the wrong thing. Yelp reviews are generally right-on. One bonus: at the end, they brought a hot towel, which is a really nice touch. And, they had the seeds as after-dinner chews, which is a sign of an authentic Indian restaurant. India's Restaurant is one of the better Indian restaurants in the loop. They have very big serving sizes in their appetizers to main courses. The chefs sampler appetizer was excellent. It had chicken pakoras with a spicy kick and two veggie items as well (veggie pakoras and a potato samosa). This app is more than enough for three people to get the meal started. The mango lassi is also a must have, it comes in a nice tall glass with out ice, so more chilly lassi to enjoy! We had the chicken tikka (dry meat) and the chicken masala (curry) for our main meals. There entire buffet looked so lame but we decided to buy anyway. For the buffet They had tandoori chicken, butter chicken, goat curry saag paneer, navratan korma, aloo gobi, daal, samosa, chicken fry and couple of dessert.
