I love Indian street food and am grateful for the Gandhi District's diverse selection of Desi restaurants. Shiv Sagar is one of my go-to spots. This time, I got pani puri and sev puri as snacks--loved assembling the pani puri myself, and the flavors burst in my mouth! Ordering is simple: walk up to the counter and give them your table number. They've also introduced a rewards program, which is a nice bonus. Plenty of parking is available, and be sure to check out the Indian grocery store in the same plaza afterward!

Aloo paratha with no filling, half cooked dough thick enough to feed cows!!

Wonder why this place is so hyped!!!! Been there 4 times in the last 4 years and always been served below average food. Soggy chaat, bland dosa, thick aloo paratha with no stuffing made to feed cows.

Food was great! The Raj Kachori hit all the right taste buds as it exploded with flavor. The dosa and Bombay sandwich also fantastic. Whenever I'm in Houston this will be my chaat go to! Really clean and had clean bathrooms as well which is also appreciated!

Incredibly cheap yet super flavorful! This vegetarian Indian restaurant was such a hole in the wall gem. My first time trying Dahi Puri and it was amazing. So much flavor it such a small bite - it does get soggy fast so make sure you finish them right away

    Bhel Puri and Mango Lassi

The bhel puri was a really interesting dish. I'm not entirely sure of all the ingredients, but it had a wide range of flavors that worked well together. The closest comparison I can think of is salsa, it had that same mix of freshness, tanginess, and a bit of crunch. The bhel puri had a taste of sweet, sour, and savory all in one dish. The mango lassi was extremely tasty, the only problem was that I didn't have more! For the price everything was worth it, these two items cost less than $13. The service was great, the cashier was patient with me while I was figuring what I wanted to order.

Highlight: Bhel Puri ($5.99), Mango Lassi ($3.99) Stopped by for a quick morning bite and the bhel puri was packed with flavor. Savory, with a hint of sweetness and spice, and tangy, crispy, and crunchy. I remember the puffed rice being more crunchy, but the taste itself was delicious. The mango lassi was on the sweet side but overall fresh and creamy. Hospitality: You order at the front and it's self-service. Honorable Mention: Lots of open seating and there's a lot of yummy options on the menu.

Yum yum yum! This Indian restaurant is extremely accommodating for vegans, given that it is vegetarian, and EXTREMELY reasonable in price. The service is fast and the food is delicious! I got the Chana, samosas, and pakora. Yum!

First of all, the restaurant was clean, well maintained and felt upscaled On top of that, everything we ordered was very reasonable and delicious. My favorites was the Vada Pav, Dosa and Dabeli. Definitely reminded me of home. Spice was pretty mild for the most part Loved how nice the folks were in taking our order.

Shiv Sagar might be the top place I'd take my vegetarian friends visiting Houston to. Maharaja Bhog is good, but pricey. Shiv Sagar is great if you're not quite feeling buffet. The menu is quite expansive. I would say it's a little difficult to decide what to get! Everything is so cheap we split 5 items between the 4 of us and didn't break $10 per person and that's with 2 lassis and a chai! I recommend the chapati bhaji, vegetable biryani, mysore masala dosa (which takes a while to make, FYI), pani puri, and cheese pav bhaji. One suggestion for the restaurant is making it easier to know if your food is ready, since it's counter service and there's quite a few dishes for other tables that can be confusing.

Visited Shiv Sagar after so long, overall experience was horrible. Bad food, worst customer service. Literally scammed my kids by charging $2 extra each on already overpriced vada paav ($7+$2) and paav bhaji ($8+$2) for regular serving - no extra paavs!!!! When asked they showed a small sign hidden on there to justify. It's not there in their price menu at all. Stating that it's Indian paav. Bhatura chola was inedible, yet we did not complain about it. Bad reused oil gave heart burn right away We are never ever going back to that place. They got so popular that don't care about quality or customer's concerns at all. Beware of their malpractices. Better go to honest or Chowpatty chat, far better places.

We had some errands in the area and got a late lunch at Shiv Sagar. We got Sev Puri, Bhel Puri, Pav Bhaji, and Mango Lassi. We loved Bhel puri and Sev Puri, Mango lassi was good. Pav Bhaji wasn't our favorite it only tasted of tomatoes, missing all the spices.

I enjoyed a nice South I dian Dosa and two Samosas which were flavored quite nicely. One has to go up front to the counter to order then they bring one's food over to you

The chole had literally like five chickpeas, I'm not even kidding...

I love this restaurant, if I lived closer, I would be here every week! Ha!…read more I was introduced to this restaurant via Lou MC (a fellow Yelper/friend of many years), he had a UYE here and I was one of the attendees. I came back for a solo lunch on Sunday, the restaurant wasn't packed. It's not a modernized place, but it is clean and there was no roaches in sight! There isn't a weird odor either. It appears to be family owned as the two times I've been there is a lady, a young guy, and an older man to be working. My absolute favorites are the veg grilled chicken (my mouth is salivating as I type this), veg fried rice, veg fish, veg meatloaf, and the string beans with veg meat pieces. The sweet and sour soup is tasty too. With the grilled veg chicken; that's the star of the show! Lays on a bed of lettuce with cucumber and tomatoes on the side, the faux chicken tastes way better than grilled bird. The flavor is slightly sweet, but savory and has grilled tips. It's chewy texture and full of flavor with each bite. I think they marinate it with something because it's so divine! The fried rice resembles the non-vegan version; flavorful on its own, but once I add the soy sauce the flavor intensifies into yummy goodness. It has tiny pieces of fried tofu to replace the eggs and loaded with veggies. The meatloaf is doused in savory sauce, but the faux meatloaf is tasty too. The veg fish in the sweet and sour soup was very yummy; the soup broth smooth and didn't have any chunky parts of vegetables. When I went yesterday, there was numerous calls for takeout orders. This place is popping! I was served chrysanthem tea loose leaf; the taste wasn't overpowering and it tasted like water. Very subtle. Oh and the dumplings are good too! Thick in size and crunchy hard shell, not soggy. Huge portions and matched with inexpensive prices. This restaurant is a win win in my book. Despite busyness, they appear to handle it well and don't have long wait times for your meal to arrive. The flavor and portion profile reminds me of Trendy Vegan. You'll get more bang for your buck! Service is cordial; the waiters and waitress doesn't seem too interested in table service or getting to know you. That's alright since I was watching a movie as I ate. If I had to rank Asian vegan options: Quan Yin (#1), Trendy Vegan (#2), and then Pine Forest (#3). Located in a huge parking lot, you'll sure find a spot to park.

I love matcha so I got the crispy matcha kinoko which is king oyster mushroom tempura with matcha sauce. I thought it was just ok. I also got the duck matcha ramen and I was not too impressed. It was unique but the taste was just ok. Maybe a little odd to have matcha in the broth. I would definitely come back for the VGKO ramen or the GKO ramen. I also saw they have other interesting ramen on the menu like spicy lamb ramen, wagyu Texas bbq ramen, and soupless ramen. The wait was not too bad on a weeknight but not sure about the weekends. This will be the place I would come back when I'm in the area.

Plenty of parking, it's located in a rather large strip mall. And it's got plenty of seating inside. A friend recommended the following: magic idli, Bullet Idli, kanchipuram Idli, and the masala Chai. But the thing is, if there are ghee idli's on the menu, I must try them. My husband loves Vada and they had them on special, so we ordered Bullet Idli, Masala Chai, Kanchipuram Idli, and of course the ghee karam Idli. My husband LOVEDDDD the chai, he said it reminded him of being back in India, the type of chai you'll find at train stations- which is supposed to be really good! The kanchipuram Idli were new to me, and I'm not sure how they're supposed to taste or what to compare them to. They were kind of dry, and we weren't fans. I loved the ghee karam idli's, they were so soft, and really well flavored. The sambar they were served with was cold, which was disappointing, but we asked for some extra hot sambar and explained we thought it was cold and they fixed that immediately. And the Vada was fried especially when my husband ordered it, so it was fresh and he said it was some of the best he had in Houston. My favorite was the bullet idli, the person behind the counter explained they don't steam them, these are fried on the stove in a special pan, so they come out quicker and have a more solid texture. Think pan fried dumplings vs steamed dumplings. We went back after that first successful outing and that's pretty much why I took a star off. My first outing was definitely five stars. But this second time we ordered the Vada again, and it was too salty. So salty we couldn't finish the plate. And this time the person working behind the counter was also taking a work call, something like technical support and screen sharing, but this call was being taken loudly, on speaker. Basically everyone's dining experience was exposed to this work conference call, which made it awkward for everyone there to have any conversations or chat. The person they were chatting with was quite upset too, so it wasn't a pleasant meeting we were all forced to overhear. A nice lunch outing was made really strange. I don't get why this person wouldn't just use headphones, it's cool they're trying to work two jobs but ruining everyone's lunch and dine in experience was not great.

The chicken rice was cooked perfectly, so moist and flavorful. The chicken, rice, some scallion ginger, a bit of sriracha: the perfect bite! We also had the mixed skewers (beef and chicken). The dipping sauce was good. I prefer the chicken over the beef skewers. The beef skewers were a bit tough. I wasn't the biggest fan of the seasoning they used.
