    Shrimp Biryani Samosa

Easily some of the best Indian food I've had in Houston! The shrimp biryani and potato samosas were incredible and the tamarind chutney for the papadum was amazing too! The ambiance was nice and cozy. The service was so friendly and attentive and the staff were truly the kindest. I'm already planning my next visit for the fish tikka, tandoori prawns and a lassi! Highly recommend!

Very delicious, great tomato base, aromatic and very tender chicken with just the right balance of flavors in my Butter Chicken Meal last night. The cool mini salad, rice and naan were very good and fresh too. Great, friendly service as well.

This place is exactly what I was looking for. Classic authentic Indian food. Plenty of options in a buffet style, each flavorful and delicious as if it were plated. Highly recommend.

This restaurant was fantastic on all fronts! The service was very attentive, the house wine was very good, and the food was just incredible. I had the "Dinner for One," which included several small portions of many delectable selections, and each one was a home run. I am so glad I found this place as I will be back!

Khyber has always been a favorite place to dine for me! Their delicious food, stellar service & relaxed atmosphere attribute to its success! Additionally, the owners are genuine and kind and check on each table of guests to make sure everything is fine. I highly recommend Khyber!!!

Saag paneer - 10/10 Butter chicken - 9.5/10 Chicken tikka - 9/10 Mixed grille - 9/10 Chicken biryani - 8.5/10 Lamb curry - 8/10 Daal makhni - 8/10 Peshawari naan - 10/10 Naan - 10/10 Kheer - 9/10 Actually surprised ive never been here before This has become my next favorite desi restaurant after Agas. My favorite items were the saag paneer and butter chicken. Their naan was some of the fluffiest naan ive ever tried. One of my favorite things was that the food wasnt oily like most desi food and the quality was . The ambiance and service is also amazing. They offer lunch buffets (buffet items are less spicy ) as well as an a la carte menu (more spicier items if requested). Definitely recommend checking them out!

Service is great. They're always very friendly and fast. The ambiance is a nice vibe, especially at night when the candles are lit. Good date spot. The food is excellent, although the saag paneer is not as creamy as I'm used too. But the meats are flavorful and grilled well. The chicken is tender. The prawns are cool too. The masla is rich in tomato flavor. It tastes fresh. The punch buffet is a good deal but I appreciate the dinner menu. Overall, I'd come back. I've been here a few times and if in the area, it's a good choice.

    Lamb vindaloo

Service was fantastic here, our waiter was extremely helpful and friendly in picking out an appropriate spice level and questions about the menu. Atmosphere was nice, an open kitchen meant some nice background noise. The food was decent, but maybe not the best I've had. It's like it's just missing something to make the dishes really stand out. We had the samosas which were fine, but not as well spiced as I prefer. The chicken tikka masala was fine too but again, I think just ever so slightly underspiced. The lamb vindaloo was good though, I thought that was the best dish of the ones we tried. Hot is a good spice level if you enjoy spicy food. It's not burn your tongue off but there's a nice heat that builds as you eat more.

Eventhough the Chai was so bad last time that I figured I wouldn't even come back for afternoon tea, we came back for afternoon tea. But it really was only bc we had credits to use from the Chase credit card deal and this was one of the covered places. The chai did not taste like soap this time, thankfully. It was actually very close to how my parents make it. So I liked it and had like 3 cups of it. The food was pretty good except for dessert. But even that didn't bother me too much just bc by that point I was stuffed and I add sugar to my chai. I got the gluten free afternoon tea. It was good mostly. The scone was really good. The cucumber sandwich was very bland and the curried crab was fishy and bland. The deviled egg was too mustard-y. And the desserts were all bad, maybe frozen and just not good tasting (there were 3 small ones). We got there at 1:15 and we were seated in the back, pretty far from the harpist. Our server was kind of rude and seemed swamped.

Their longevity (#1) of a near half century is nothing short of impressive, earning a nostalgic place in the hearts of many Houston diners, a good number of whom trace their first Indian cuisine experiences at this very location. While I do wish their success, it's hard not to point out minor mishaps in different aspects of the overall restaurant experience, which include: :: Awkward stares from the staff as they hover or stand in the middle of the room. It's understandable that they're monitoring to help where needed, but even then I will have to flag them down for water, napkins, or the bill. :: Buffet maintenance. They're semi-quick to replenish, but extremely slow at maintaining the cleanliness. Splatter from the daal makhani, a serving spoon not returned to the same serving tray, or even customers forgetting to close the bins at the dessert station (#2) could all be mitigated by a designated person keeping it tidy. :: Food quality. The tandoori chicken has been dry, the saag paneer could be creamier, and chicken tikka masala has had their bland days. Even the naan can be a bit too dry at times. Thankfully I've fared better with the chana masala and paneer makhani. I would also steer clear of their fruit punch. :: Decor is dark and dated. It still reminds me of a place that is stuck in time, which for most experiences are usually my favorite. The natural lighting during lunch alleviates this slightly, but the dinner hour makes this place feel like eating in an older hotel lobby. The vibes are most definitely challenging. :: Foodflation. Another price hike in the last year brings the buffet price to just under $22. While it's a nice jump from what it was previously, it does leave me wishing for more, especially when the prices keep climbing. ___________ (#1) 46 years. The reception area was small and almost claustrophobic, but very ornate. There were a few chairs for you to wait. We didn't wait long, probably less than a minute. As the hostess lead us into the main dinning area, I was shocked on how big the place was (it reminding me of the big meat market restaurants in NYC). The first room was bright from the outside sunlight, almost like an outside cafe. Our table was in a different area, where it was a little darker and decorated a lot differently from the previous room. As I looked around, there were other sections at this restaurant that kind of represented different places. The section we sat in had a very long table...which I'm guessing can host a very big family or corporate party. It sat right next to the open kitchen. Our waitress, Yaretzy, was very nice. She explained how the owners traveled to the different states of India and want to share that experience at Musaafer. Yaretzy would provide an explanation for each dish. Some of them were mixed/put together table side. Everything was delicious, and not too spicy. Musaafer is fine dining, so it's not something we can do ever weekend. But we will be back. Getting here was a little tricky if you are not familiar with the area. The restaurant is located in the Galleria. The entrance to Musaafer is on the first floor inside the mall, down the hallway closest to Saks Fifth Ave on the right (if facing Saks). You will need to take the private elevator to the second floor or walk up the stairs. There is valet parking if you prefer to do that. I think there is a small parking lot in front of the restaurant that might be free, but we went into the underground Purple garage. If you park right after going down the ramp into the Purple garage, you will see an elevator into Saks Fifth Ave, which you take up and walk outside with a short walk to Musaafer. The only problem with what we did was when Saks closes, we couldn't take that elevator back down. There were stairs back down to the purple garage, but it stank! There had to be another elevator that will take you into the mall.

The C T M here was so creamy, dense, a little sweet n tart combined with some earthy n savory notes all in one mix. It was really well made and addictive in every bite. The fenugreek, cilantro, tomato base, cream stood out in the recipe. The Vindaloo was seemingly onion based rather than creamy with some spicy, tangy, earthy and savory notes in one blend. Most Indian restaurants either don't make this good or are hit or miss by making it too sour or too runny. You could still taste the fenugreek, cilantro, ginger, chili peppers and overall great taste without the stew being too watery either. Both the C T M and Vindaloo were A ++ excellent on these dine in sessions. I am also a huge fan of their gulab jamun and mango lassi after a meal when I get dessert. Not quite sure what to expect, I was pleased to see that it's completely plant-based including the pastries and no extra plus charge for alternative milks (praise!) I ended up ordering their pistachio latte which had a really rich, bold espresso note and a sweet cardamom finish at the bottom of the cup. I would definitely get this again but might try to stir it before drinking for a more even flavor distribution. In terms of the setting, there's lots of small tables and couches to work and study with either a small group or alone. They also have a back patio with additional seating, board games, and even a printer which can be hard to find in this day and age. Overall the vibe is relaxed and casual. Finally, while I had to wait about 30 minutes to order and receive my drink, I had some time to watch their workflow and would offer some suggestions for improvement to speed up their service. The staff all clearly put a lot of care into preparing each drink and were doing the best they could to move quickly, but the layout of the back counter area is fairly inefficient. To start, the ice well for cold drinks is on the complete opposite side of the register away from their espresso machines. This added a lot of steps for the staff to prepare iced coffee drinks. Secondly, the straws were also quite a reach for the staff across the counter, also by the ice well. Finally, the order retrieval process is not the best. There are no names written on the cups and customers are sometimes in the bathroom or outside on the back patio when their order is ready. It can be hard for the staff to locate the right customer or if the drink gets left on the counter, it's hard to know what it is and who it is for. Overall, a pleasant (plant-based!) discovery but hoping they might consider a few steps (pun intended) to reduce the strain on their staff.
