This is one of my favorite restaurant sin the whole city of Houston!! I LOVE the food here. I even had my 30th birthday dinner at India's and the waiters very very accommodating. Had food here on Saturday evening ( 14 July, 2012). Good food. Had Chicken chaat, Chicken lolliop, Kofta curry and naan. Along with beers. Chicken lollipop was very good. Overall the place has a decent ambience. Service was good. The waiter was very friendly. (He even told us his life story on how despite being son of the owner of Hotel Claridges in New Delhi, he was working as a waiter here). Anyhow,Parking space was adequate. PROS: I am from India and so know what to expect in terms of taste. In the lunch buffet the chicken tikka masala and the naan were good. The cutlet was the only item among chat that was good. The starters were stale and oily. Chatni was made with green color. All the dishes in a Vegetarian Thaali were stale, almost cold and tasteless. We really love this restaurant so a few months ago we went to this restaurant which is about 40 miles from our house when my husband realized he had forgotten his wallet at home before we even ordered since we came this far we ask a manager if we could call him with our credit card information and pay him then and the manager was nice enough to trust us so we had a delicious lunch and paid when we hot home and left a generous tip. I would have to rate India's Restaurant as few of the best Indian Restaurants in the city. They have a unique way of meeting the desires of your taste buds, the spicy for the traditional Indian or really mild ( I mean mild, not those restaurants that say its mild and your friend who cant handle spicy foods still burns their tongue). The managers are great and I believe it's run by a family. In a non buffet style setting a manager has usually come in and checked to see how we liked the food which is not common these days, and in one instance they even suggested something off the menu which was great!!! The food is delicious and authentic and has a variety of dishes for the buffet lovers. Buffets are spiced ( not spicy ) so everyone can enjoy, and the their bread is excellent. If you are trying Indian food for the first time, I would recommend going with something with Korma which is a creamy sauce and sometimes slightly sweet. Chicken Korma, butter chicken, is great. Dinner menu is no buffet and the staff is eager to answer any questions and suggest dish to your liking. Price is average, however the food is great for the price. Horrible! Horrible! horrible! I If you want to eat authentic Indian food please don't go there. None of the vegetable or meat tastes like anything like authentic Indian food. The creamy curries (navratan korma, naan (is thick and more close to tandoori roti) and bland taste of lamb curries are unbelievable. I just ordered delivery from here, and am thoroughly disappointed. 1) The guy said I needed a minimum of 35 dollars for delivery, but neglected to tell me that there is also a 10 dollar delivery charge... so why the minimum? Additionally, with the price of rice and naan, 2 dishes would have been sufficient for the 35 minimum but he told me I needed three. 2) The food is so-so at best. Ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, and Spinach and cheese... the spinach and cheese is actually pretty gross... definitely not worth 13 bucks for each of these. 3) I got "1" piece of naan bread for 3 dishes... wtf... My family and I were visiting Houston from Atlanta and looked up this place on Yelp; we went by the high average ratings on Yelp. We were shocked at how poor quality the food was. The Tandoori chicken, though freshly made, had none of the taste you would expect-it tasted like spiceless broiled chicken with red color painted on top of it. The Goan fish curry had no resemblance to its name and just had a sour tomato sauce with pre-cooked, bland Mahi-Mahi thrown in to the curry. The Dal Tadka was also unimpressive. Aloo Jira was average, and the only edible item. Even the salad Kachumbar had no lemon, cilantro, salt or pepper. The only saving grace was that the restaurant did not charge us for our half-eaten meal. Overall, we were extremely disappointed and hungry with no other decent restaurants open at about 945 PM. What was extremely surprising is that the Yelp reviews indicated an average 4 star rating for India's. Clearly, these ratings are highly suspect at best. I would request Yelp to do a better job at ensuring reviews are indeed independent and not fudged by the restaurant owners. read more

As an Indian, and a newcomer to houston, I began my search for good Indian food as soon as I arrived. This restaurant was a shining light among some unfortunate experiences I had at a few other restaurants. The service here was excellent, kind, professional. The food was excellent. this is the type of place i'd take someone who had little or no experience with indian food. the buffet was really good, and had most of the indian food staples. with 2 or 3 different types of curried meat, several vegetable curries, tandoori chicken, salads and desert, i think it covered all of the bases. there are waiters walking around with plates of fresh naan as well. while no single dish was particularly outstanding, the overall experience was good enough to warrant a return. read more

Good food, good service, reasonable prices. The grade is due to the parking experience 2 wks ago. Tho the parking lot is monitored by cameras, thieves/criminals could care less. My SUV was broken into while eating lunch here with a buddy. Never would have expected a break-in at 115p in a 1/2 full lot! So lunch cost me $600, that included shattered car window replacement costs. The police informed me that over 1100 car break-ins occur per day in Houston. BTW, nothing of value was found/taken. Headed over here for a late lunch since all the local restaurants were closed. We had a hankering for tandoori chicken and this was the closest place that came up on Yelp. The place was closing in half an hour so we scurried in to get our fill. The tandoori chicken was quite dry and not seasoned well, but the quality of the meat was good. The butter chicken tasted like mushy chicken mixed in canned tomato soup. Very unsatisfying. The palak paneer was very good but the navratan korma left a lot to be desired; while it had a decent amount of spice, the vegetables were mushy and unidentifiable. The naan was your run of the mill plain unbuttered naan. Not particularly great. The rice kheer was inauthentic and dull, lacking spices and nuts -- just sugar, milk, and rice. The mango mousse was great, not too sugary and not too heavy either. Top it all off with the $16/person lunch buffet (average price is $13) without an extensive selection. And their a la carte curries are double the price of other restaurants in the area. Thr staff and owner were rushing to hurry us out and limit how much we consumed (which wasn't even that much). Disgusting experience- rip-off: On January 04, 2015 I have called for the food quote for 30 people gathering for Birthday party out of which food for 5 people to go. I was very much specific about the food items we were needed and the manager got that item written down, he put me on brief hold and quote me the total cost of $450for total of 30 people with 25 people dining in restaurant and order for 5 people to go, he said that this will include the tax and tip since it is a large order, Then the person name "Satish" came on phone he said if you order anything extra that will be extra charge. I also said please make sure that the food is enough for 30 people, he said don't worry we will take care. I agreed with that. At the end of event, I got the bill that shows they charge 20% Gratuity ($104.98) and food/ tax of $43.30, when I went to discuss this in person with "Satish" he said my employee made mistake when he quoted $450!!! and he has to charge Gratuity and food tax regardless . I said him repeatedly that this was not quoted to me but he did not want to do anything saying you have to talk to Mr. Dube the owner. I called next day for Mr. Dube he never called me and later on "Satish" called me and said they cannot do anything!!!! The food was not even enough for 25 people dining so they forced us to order extra items and the tab come out to $673.18!!! I personally believe that this is clearly rip-off, Thy charge $148.28 which shouldn't be at first place. I wanted to share this info via review so this will not happened to any one other customer. I don't know how this will impact to his business when I talk to my circle which I will do loud and clear, and if it does- they deserve for it. read more

This place was TERRIBLE! I went to this place having high hopes because I saw the reviews on Yelp. During my life, I have probably visited hundreds of Indian Restaurants and this was by far one of the worst. As far as the restaurant itself, it was very clean and the waiters were very attentive. I called 20 minutes before my arrival to check what the non-veg items on the buffet was. I mainly wanted to go for the butter chicken. They assured me that there was butter chicken on the buffet. Once I got to the restaurant, There was no sight of butter chicken anywhere. I asked the waiter and he said "Oh Sorry, maybe there will be butter chicken tomorrow". I wanted to leave but I had already started eating the naan. The food itself was cold and had no taste. Everyone that came with me was just as dissapointed as well. India's is one of the better Indian restaurants in the city. Their prices are a bit on the high side but worth it for the quality. The lunch buffet is always great but do order from the menu if you can, because fresh always tastes better. I recommend the Viceroy of India's Dinner For Two, which costs around $60 but is actually misleading and feeds around 4 people. It's a good way to sample most of their popular stuff without committing to large individual dishes. Still haven't had better saag paneer or daal anywhere else! read more

Unfortunately did not have a good experience. The paneer makhani and naans were fine but the service was not. There were 2 nice servers but our main waiter was not friendly, not accommodating, had a poor attitude from the get go and gave us incomplete information. They charged us for an onion salad after we specifically asked if there would be a charge. The "manager" did not seem professional, and said everything is a charge. Well the point is not about the money but that they said they wouldn't charge for something but then they did and didn't care. They reluctantly removed the excess charge but with a sucky attitude. Where do I begin? I just went here recently and the experience of dining here is getting worse, at least for the desis. 1) I really think they are racially biased. They do excellent service to the non desis or those who look rich by their clothes, expecting to get big tips from them. I don't care if they wanna do excellent service to the westerners just to get high tips but at least they gotta do their basic duty as a waiter for everyone, otherwise it's called bad service and a bad employee and they should get written up or fired for that. I have also heard the same thing from my friends that went to this restaurant how they ignore the Indians and serve excellently to the westerners, and some of my Indian friends are big tippers. But thank God they didn't tip them or didn't tip good for this awful service. 2) Bad bad service- We ordered naan, and they gave us like small pieces of naan while I noticed the non desis naan were quite big and soft. Okay I can let that one go. Next thing I noticed, the tables that were behind and next to our table were all non desis- the waiters refilled their drinks and asked them if they needed naan whenever it was getting almost empty but just ignored our table completely. We tried hard to call the waiter to serve us but they never made eye contact with us. Finally we got their attention and asked them to refill our drinks and naan tray. Naan took too long to get to us and this time they brought us very tiny stiff naans. I am not even joking. I really wish I could have taken a picture. Maybe next time I will keep that in my mind if I go there. Tiny meaning like tater tots size. I laughed sarcastically and asked my friend, what is this and my friend got so furious and said what kind a stupid service is this? 3) My friend was still eating and the waiter took his plate without even asking if my friend was done or not. Only good thing I can say is- few items tasted good but rest was bland and nothing new or exciting. The place is clean. I have dined here in the couple of times in the past and they were biased those times too but I ignored it until now. I thought they would change their stupid attitude by this time. I found this place by searching for food nearby on my GPS. When I drove up I saw that their reader board said, "Don't be Mr. Bland..." I thought that was funny and was excited to eat there. In the parking lot there are at least 25 signs that they to lock your car and hide your belongings. A little concerning. I went in and got a to-go order of Aloo-Mutter (sp?) about 8 minutes before they closed. I didn't realize they were about to close but there were two diff parties still eating so it shouldn't have been a big deal. Right away I felt like I wasn't welcome though. I also noticed it was more posh inside than you'd expect from a restaurant with a reader board out front and in such a high theft area. Upon using the restroom, I realized the building is not maintained at the level you would think for the price of the food. $18 for Aloo Mutter and rice (rice is not included in a dish I guess. Any other restaurant it is. And would run about $10-12. ) Well, I got to my destination to sit and eat my food and the Aloo Mutter was pretty much cold. It was very slightly warm. I'm hoping I'm not going to get sick. I was just SO hungry and had no time to go back and say anything. Plus they'd be closed anyway. Also, there was a peculiar taste in the rice. I think maybe a bay leaf they hadn't taken out? They put golden raisins in the rice too, just FYI. Anyway, the food wasn't that great even if it had been hot. So sad.
