We rented an Indie Campers RV for a 6-day, one-way road trip across the country. We specifically needed a one-way rental, and Indie Campers was the only company we found that offered the route we needed, so unfortunately, we didn't have many options when it came to choosing a rental company. Thankfully, we did not experience any serious mechanical issues that prevented us from completing our trip, but there were a significant number of smaller maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality issues that really impacted our experience. Some of the issues we encountered: * Side window would not stay closed * Side door would not open from the outside (so inconvenient with 2 dogs) * Refrigerator door kept swinging open while driving * Refrigerator door panel fell off * Bottom refrigerator panel fell off * No windshield washer fluid * Floors were dirty when we picked up the RV * Windows were covered in greasy hand and fingerprints * Stove and countertops had not been properly cleaned * Shower curtain was ripped * Closet door handle was broken * Black water tank sensor continuously showed 3/4 full even after we emptied the tank several times * AC/coolant was leaking continuously * Roof vent leaked water into the van * Various panels and fixtures were loose or falling off For a rental that is marketed as being ready for a road trip, we expected the RV to be clean, properly maintained, and fully functional upon pickup. Instead, we spent a lot of time dealing with things that should have been addressed before the vehicle was rented to us. A more thorough inspection and cleaning process would have prevented a lot of the frustration we experienced. Overall, we made it a really positive experience and there was nothing seriously wrong with the RV. If you need a one-way rental it's a good option. read more

I'm having to write this on the review because customer service is nonexistent and sent overseas and you will get no help. Beware of this company do not rent for them!!! We spent over $3,400 on the small van and this is what we got!!! Also, apparently the workers at the Tacoma WA Location have all only been there a few weeks to a maximum of two months is what I was told at drop off. The condition in which our campervan was provided to us, the significant delay in receiving it, and the level of customer service we received were completely unacceptable. To begin with, we did not receive our campervan until after 6:30 PM, several hours later than expected. This significantly impacted the first day of a trip that we paid to enjoy. What made the delay even more frustrating was that the employees at the facility did not appear concerned about how long we had been waiting or the impact the delay was having on our trip. Despite having several additional hours to prepare the vehicle, the campervan was dirty and had clearly not been properly cleaned or prepared before it was given to us. Even more concerning were the sanitation issues. The gray-water tank had not been emptied from the previous renter, meaning we were given a campervan containing someone else's wastewater and ultimately had to stop during our vacation to deal with and empty waste that should have been taken care of before the vehicle was ever handed over to us. Additionally, the bathroom waste container/cassette was installed incorrectly by the employee, resulting in urine leaking inside the bathroom area. We then had to deal with cleaning and emptying another person's waste ourselves. This is not simply an inconvenience; it is an unacceptable sanitation issue. There was also a serious problem involving the heater. During our walkthrough, we specifically asked the employee whether he had turned the heater back off, and he told us that he had. We trusted what we were told. Unfortunately, he had not turned it off. We did not discover that the heater had been left running until approximately 1:00 AM. Because we had specifically asked about it and were assured that it had been turned off, we had no reason to believe it was still operating. This also resulted in our food being ruined, creating an additional expense and inconvenience during our trip. There have been several other problems with the vehicle and equipment: * The kitchen storage container provided to us has a lid that is too small for the container and will not close properly, causing its contents to spill. * The fuel tank was not completely full when the vehicle was provided to us. * The campervan was supposed to have air conditioning, yet there is no functioning A/C unit in the vehicle. What is installed on the roof appears to be only a fan. This is a significant issue because air conditioning was part of what we understood we were renting and paying for. * The overall cleanliness and preparation of the campervan were far below what should reasonably be expected from a professional rental company. We planned and paid for this trip expecting a clean, properly prepared, fully functioning campervan. Instead, we lost several hours waiting for our vehicle and then spent additional time during our vacation dealing with problems that should have been addressed before we ever received it -- including cleaning up bodily waste, emptying another customer's gray water, dealing with improperly installed equipment, replacing ruined food, and discovering that advertised/expected equipment was missing. What is particularly disappointing is that many of these problems were entirely preventable with a proper cleaning, inspection, and walkthrough before the vehicle was released. We have attempted to make the best of our vacation despite these problems, but we should not have had to spend our trip correcting sanitation, maintenance, preparation, and equipment issues that were Indie Campers' responsibility before handing us the keys. I would strongly recommend avoiding Indie Campers altogether. My experience showed me that the problems go far beyond one location. Pickup was chaotic and understaffed. The van was dirty, the bathroom door was broken, and it took them 30 minutes to put in a nail just to secure it. I finally left 1.5 hours after my scheduled pickup and even had to remind them to include items I had already paid for. Once the trip started, the real nightmare began. The roof leaked from three different places, the 12V sockets didn't work, they gave me the wrong plug to charge the van, and one headlight was not working. This van clearly had not been properly inspected before being rented out. Customer support was equally terrible. Most complaints were met with AI responses, and their standard solution was essentially: drive an hour out of your way, find a repair shop, get their van fixed yourself, and ask for reimbursement later. Customers are paying for a vacation--not to maintain Indie Campers' fleet. That seems to be their business model: run with minimal staff, rent out poorly maintained vans, and make customers deal with the repairs during their trips. When I returned the van, they acknowledged the problems and offered me compensation, which I accepted. I never received it. A rental van should have a roof that doesn't leak, working headlights and electrical outlets, the correct charging equipment, and doors that actually close. This is a review I did everything in my power not to write. Everything pre-pick up worked great with I.C. The problems started once the trip began. 1st, the valve that connects the municipal water to the RV broke. Despite repair shops telling me that RV companies pay them directly, I was OK paying upfront. But IndieCampers wanted to reimburse me 15 days AFTER I return the car. After raising hell, they reimbursed me. From day 1, the heater did not work (despite it being published as one of the amenities of the car). We complained multiple times via email and Whatsapp, documented everything and reported it when we returned the car. We felt that we deserved a partial reimbursement since it was freezing at night and we did not have heat, despite it being promised. When we got back, after a back and forth via email where we should proof of our communications, we were promised 215EUR reimbursement (see image attached). However, they only provided a 100EUR reimbursement. When I called them out on it multiple times via email, showing them proof of their own emails saying they approved 215EUR reimbursement, I got silence, up until today (47 days after returning the car), where they basically say "yeah, we promised, but it ain´t going to happen". Things happen on a trip, and especially in an RV. I get that. But the fact that they treat customers like this after they pay $3K+ drives me crazy. I was hoping they would resolve it via email and stick to their (written) commitment, but since they decided not to, I am left no choice but to share this experience with everyone. DESCRIPTION OF THE FACTS At the time of collection in Phoenix, I encountered a series of serious deficiencies that made the rental experience wholly unacceptable and inconsistent with Indie Campers' contractual obligations. 1. Cleanliness and hygiene issues The campervan was delivered in completely unacceptable sanitary conditions. I personally had to spend more than two hours cleaning the vehicle before we could properly use it, and I was also required to purchase cleaning products at my own expense. This is clearly inconsistent with the reasonable expectation that a rental vehicle be delivered clean, properly prepared and ready for use. They offered a compensation of USD 600 for these initial cleanliness-related issues in order to proceed with the trip, but at the end they gave me only USD 200 with no explanation. 2. Lack of maintenance and vehicle defects The vehicle presented numerous maintenance and functional defects, including: Drawers that did not close properly; A refrigerator with a defective temperature-control system, causing food to freeze; A damaged electrical cable, which fortunately we discovered before departure; A shower without a proper hose allowing the shower head to be moved; Rain getting into the RV from the roof in the bathroom A shower curtain in extremely poor condition; A broken right-side mirror; A non-functioning rear-view camera system and display, making reversing considerably more difficult and potentially unsafe; A serious steering/alignment problem, whereby the vehicle pulled to the right even when the steering wheel was held straight. These defects substantially impaired the usability, functionality and safety of the vehicle. All this problems have been reported to you in person or per email as soon as we discovered them. 3. Serious safety concerns Of particular concern is the fact that I discovered that the vehicle was apparently due for an inspection on July 14, 2026, but that this inspection had apparently not been completed. In addition, I discovered that the vehicle's insurance appeared to have expired. These are not minor inconveniences. They raise serious concerns regarding the safety, maintenance, legal compliance and roadworthiness of the vehicle provided to us. Renting a vehicle under such circumstances is unacceptable and potentially exposes customers to significant safety and legal risks. 4. Premium Protection coverage I also purchased the Premium Protection plan, only to discover that its coverage was significantly more limited than I had reasonably understood from the way the product was presented at the time of purchase. Considering the additional price paid for this protection, this is particularly disappointing and raises further concerns regarding the manner in which the product was described and marketed. Be careful...it took me and my family 3 1/2 hours of waiting to get our RV. We had a scheduled time of 4pm for pickup and didnt get it until 7:30pm. Due to this, we didn't get to out camping destination till midnight. Note, that after finally getting the RV we had to do extra cleaning, as it was not totally clean. The RV performed well and we tried to enjoy the rest of our trip. On return I spoke with the manage about not being happy with the pickup wait time and he said we can $50 for every hour they are late on providing us the RV, and that its stated in our contract. Well, I called the customer several line and filed a complaint and I filed one online. Guess what....we are still waiting for a refund!! They keep saying they are investigating it. Indie Campers return policy feels incredibly deceptive and unfair, especially considering the significant cost of their rentals. Even if you cancel less than an hour after booking, you can lose 95% of your payment. That feels extremely unreasonable and raises serious questions about consumer protection. The vehicle was super dirty and no fuel, filled the tank and by that time I realized the AC didn't work. Drove through 100 degree heat, assured that the roof unit would work (it's a new vehicle) It worked for about 5 minutes and completely shut down. Called for help, they said I had to use WhatsApp and take a photo ‍ Did that, called back again and now I'm waiting for a call back. Our experience was horrible. I do not recommend this company. They are scammers. We booked a 'Family Select' motorhome months in advance and fully prepaid for it. When we went to pick it up, it wasn't available. They offered us a 'Comfort Plus' instead--a lower, smaller model with one less bed, which meant a price difference of $500. The only other option they gave us was to wait for hours until they could prep the one we had originally selected. In January 2026, I rented an RV from Indie Campers and paid for the reservation in full. My rental agreement clearly included unlimited mileage, which was a key factor in my decision to book with this company. I have spent whopping AUD 4,513 (for 10 days). The rental was completed without any issues, and the vehicle was returned as required. However, on June 2, 2026--approximately six months after the rental had ended--I was unexpectedly charged AUD 2,468 for alleged excess mileage. This charge appears to directly contradict the terms of my rental agreement, which expressly provided for unlimited mileage. Receiving a substantial charge half a year after the rental concluded is both alarming and unacceptable, and looks like fraud. I have requested an explanation and supporting documentation showing how this charge was calculated and what contractual provision authorizes it. To date, I have not received a satisfactory justification. I am submitting this complaint because I believe consumers should be aware of this practice and because I am seeking assistance in obtaining a full refund of the improperly assessed charge. read more

They changed my RV to an "upgrade" model 3 days before we were supposed to pick it up, so refunding for any reasonable amount was impossible if I wanted to cancel. Why put me through the booking process if what I booked isn't available? The bigger RV gets far less gas mileage and is extremely detrimental to our trip because we would be more restricted on where we could park for plans we have already booked. It is NOT an upgrade. It's like booking a sports car and getting a bus. I paid for something I'm not getting. In any other business, they would refund. Booking online is very deceptive, I believe that they bet on most people to go through it not reading between all the lines, which makes it easier to enter into sketchy contracts that release all rights of the customer. I wasn't aware of the over $2,000 deposit I would have to pay at the time of picking up the vehicle. I tried to call, chat and email customer service to refund my vehicle, as it might be bigger but only adds costs to my trip due to us not being able to visit our planned destinations, having to change reservations last minute which charged penalties, and the extra gas cost. The bigger RV gets 8mpg, something I had to research, as it is not readily available on their site. The customer services is rude and unhelpful. The response time is incredibly slow. The man I talked to on the phone was clearly reading off a script and wouldn't help at all with a possible refund, even if only partial. He kept repeating the same phrases word for word. This is a trip I saved up for and now I have lost a little over $3,000. I'd rather have the vehicle be made unavailable entirely so I could get a refund. Business practices are incredibly deceptive. Thank you Indie Campers for ruining our trip and causing stress when I am supposed to be looking forward to it. This was my first time renting an RV for a road trip, and it was all in all a terrible experience. Our rental was in New Zealand and started at their Auckland depot. The only positive thing I can say is that the check-in was relatively easy and the staff was friendly enough. One part time younger guy in particular was very nice and genuinely tried to help us when we returned the SECOND TIME on the FIRST DAY over issues, and admitted they were understaffed and experienced these issues a lot. A quick summary of what we experienced: - when we arrived for pickup, the main attendant said we were getting "practically a brand new model". Meanwhile, there was a giant area of damage on a wheel well repaired with white duct tape, and barely anything in the camper worked - upon immediately driving away, we noticed the tire pressure light was on for all four tires. We were about to take a road trip across both islands in New Zealand, so that's something that's kind of important. We immediately return to the depot and they tell us, "it's just a faulty sensor". Cool - later that same day, we discover that the remote we received does not control the air conditioner/heater unit and there's no other way to control it. Also that the key they gave us didn't actually lock any of the compartment doors on the outside of the camper. After calling them and then being directed to chat with someone over WhatsApp, we drove nearly 90min out of our way back to the depot again. The customer service said they notified the depot prior to our arrival, however when we got there, the place was empty except for one younger kid who was only still there wrapping up something but that the location was now closed. So in short, no help there. For all of this, the customer service said they would compensate me for the convenience this would have on the trip, to an amount that only ended up being about $200. - as we really started our road trip, it turns out the closet door and several drawers were broken and did not stay shut while driving. So our things were constantly getting thrown around and with all of the noise and shuttering throughout the vehicle it was like driving a dump truck around. - we intended on free camping for 90% of the trip and only stopping at holiday parks to charge the generator and refresh our tanks, etc. Turns out most of the features in the camper don't actually work unless you're actually plugged in as the generator isn't strong enough, so free camping isn't really an option. Also, they gave us a sawed off garden hose with our water tank that couldn't connect to a single spicket we found in all of New Zealand, so we didn't use any of the water features either. At this point, we're now stopping at holiday parks every night and may as well have just gotten hotel rooms. - The toilet tank was broken and couldn't open or shut from inside the camper, so we didn't use the toilet either. We also received the camper with a toilet tank that was half full. - All the while, I'm continually messaging this customer service WhatsApp number to report the issues, to the point where they just stopped answering me altogether. - The one time we did try to use the water on the camper without the hookup and just by filling the water tank, we discovered the hot water didn't work either. - They end up charging me an extra cleaning fee at drop off "because the floor will have to be swept". At this point, I was so done with this vehicle and ready to get to the airport that I told the guy "whatever" and we left. Our 10 day camper van road trip turned into a terrible chore of constantly trying to find unbooked holiday parks every night at the last minute just to use the most basic features of the van. Most showering and cooking happened at these stops, making having the camper van itself mostly useless. It's obvious that the company is vastly understaffed, only conducts customer service through some India based call center chat, and has a fleet of under maintenanced vehicles. Terrible experience! We rented an rv in Vancouver BC in August of 2025 to take on a 2 week family camping trip. Within a couple of hours of renting the RV, we discovered that the fridge door was broken with a result that every time we went around a corner, the fridge would fly open and all the contents would fly out. We had to clean up an huge mess from a broken jug of milk that exploded everywhere and for the remainder of our trip we had to strap the fridge door closed when we were driving with a bungee cord. Then a couple of days later, we discovered that the gray water tank was leaking. When we looked under the RV, we realized that the pipe coming from the gray water tank was being held together and the tank itself was attached to the vehicle by a bunch of duct tape which had come loose. We had asked about that duct tape when we first saw the RV, but they assured us that no repairs were needed and it was fine - nothing could have been further from the truth. We could have easily dropped the entire tank on the highway which would have been a serious safety hazard for drivers on the highway. We lost almost an entire day of our trip because we had to get the grey water tank repaired at a repair shop in order to continue our trip. Indie Campers trip support reps assured us in writing at the time that they would refund us the $270 USD repair fee but it took me from Aug 22 to October 20 and a huge number of texts and emails for them to even respond to my repeated requests for that reimbursement and finally honour that commitment. There were numerous other problems with the RV itself, including a hot water heater that did not work, window blinds that did not function, multiple drawers that broke or were broken at the start - the list went on and on. Then at the end of our trip Indie Campers charged our VISA for an early pickup that we did not sign up for and an abandonment fee that made no sense since we never abandoned the vehicle. When we complained about the invoice to the people at the drop off depot they said we had to send a text to the company to deal with it, which sent me back into a 2 month series of attempts to get a response through various bots and customer service channels, all of whom took no action and essentially ignored me. Ultimately, we got an $854 refund back from them. What appeared to finally get their attention was I gave them a one star review on an automated email survey. Indie Campers clearly has a business strategy of quickly flipping campers from one customer to the next without doing maintenance until it is too late as well as taking advantage of customers and overcharging them and either hoping they don't notice or won't go to the considerable effort of repeatedly demanding their $ back until they get it. I would never ever use this company to rent an RV again and would strongly caution others from doing the same. read more

This place is the most professional seeming scam I've personally ever experienced. They care Nothing for the customer, except making money off of them. We paid for 15 days of a rental, eventhough there was no rental company or vehicle where we were directed to go! What a nice way for them to make free money$2600! In the mean time, they didn't mind leaving me high and dry, at night, with no vehicle! And anytime you need their help, like simply notifying them you need to alter the pickup time by a couple hours, they're happy to charge you an outrageous fee. DO NOT RENT HERE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Just read all the other reviews, the exact same thing WILL happen to you. I booked months in advance, showed up the day of my booking to pickup my van and SURPRISE SURPRISE...they sneakily tried to put me into another model WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Luckily I was keen on their tactics and did all of my research to know that they were putting me in a model WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING when I specifically booked the model WITH AIR CONDITIONING because we were camping in 90+ degree weather. (Solis vs Solis AIR) They put me in an "Upgraded RV", huh....very interesting that the UPGRADED RV costs less than half of what I paid for the Solis Air that I booked. On top of that, there was a LITANY of things broken inside this so called "Upgraded RV". The shore power system COMPLETELY BROKEN, the battery system would fail after literally 2 minutes when the RV was turned off and all the alarms inside the RV would start beeping like crazy, carbon dioxide alarm broken, Fridge broken, generator wont start ETC. Support team? Nope. You get to message a WhatsApp channel that will literally send you ChatGPT copy/pasted messages. Then they will send you nearby RV service centers for you to go pay for repairs. HAHAHAHA. I'm not kidding it's that bad. At the end of all of this, they offer me $30 in compensation. A literal legal theft operation running in broad daylight. read more

After reading the other reviews and seeing what other customers were dealing with during pick up and drop off, I guess I should consider myself lucky. They "upgraded" me to a vehicle that I did not choose, which was OK, but the vehicle was not in great condition. The black water tank was full, gas tank almost empty and none of the extras I ordered were in the van. The van desperately needed service as the RPMs were incredibly high even at 20 MPH. The men that were working to get me checked in said that they had been flown up from San Francisco to deal wit the issues as all of the employees walked out yesterday.... I was empathetic at first but parts of their story did not add up. They did get me out of the office on time and checked me in without incident. The van did not break down, which I am thankful for and it did provide a nice place to sleep while camping on a friend's property. My advice is to book elsewhere. The vehicles all looked pretty worn down, some people reported waiting for days to get their vehicle, and when I was leaving the office, there was a couple who had flown to Seattle from Denver to pick up a vehicle and drive it to Anchorage Alaska, and there was no vehicle for them to pick up- this was even after they had received confirmation emails stating everything was good to go the day before. I originally book through Indie campers because the website was easy to use and the price was affordable- In hindsight, I would take reliability over affordability. If you choose to rent with Indie Campers, I will offer the same advice I received from another customer when I arrived... "Good Luck!" read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY First and foremost, you will never be able to speak to a human until you pick up and drop off. This was by far the worst part of the experience. Upon pickup, we were warned about fuel levels being the same upon return and the gray and black lines being cleaned upon delivery. I paid for toilet tabs, which I never received. The vehicle itself had obvious damage both inside and out, but all was cosmetic and was documented. The doors were open and the gentleman who checked us in had been smoking so it didn't dawn on me until we got home that the very visible "non-smoking" signs didn't apply to whoever had rented before us. Being asthmatic, this posed a serious problem for me. I attempted to communicate with someone immediately through their website and was directed to an online chat. No response. We had strict travel plans leaving the following morning and we had no choice but to head out despite the smoke. The refrigerator and freezer went out the first day. Again, I communicated through online chat but got no actual response. We noticed more interior damage as our trip continued. First shower we took, the shower overflowed. It wouldn't drain despite sitting for an hour. Reached out for a third time to online chat. No response. I used cups to scoop water out of the shower so we could depart. Large clumps of black hair and dirty water came up from The drain after I used my shoe as a "plunger". I proceeded to throw up out of pure disgust. After we got back on the road someone finally responded that they would check with their team but as a precaution suggested I clean out the gray line. Shouldn't that have been done before we even received the vehicle? A laundry list of issues was gathered throughout the next two nights. We used RV showers the rest of the trip out of fear of not draining again. We were forced to cut our trip short because of my breathing issues. And to date, despite numerous documented complaints, have yet to get a valid response about our issues or reimbursement for the tabs never received or vacation cut short due to smoking vehicle. And to top it off, they charged me three days later for what, I have no idea. Saw the credit card charge, but zero Explanation or... you guessed it... communication. I partnered with Imoova and Indie Campers to move a rental RV from Indiana to California. The pickup was long and disorganized, as we were told two employees did not show up. We had mismatched utensils to take with us on the trip, and had to stop home to get a few things that were not included. Other than that, the trip went well except for a rainstorm, where there was water seeping inside from some seams that were not sealed properly. We moved the camper and fulfilled our agreement, dropping off in Los Angeles to a friendly staff. However, our nightmare began after the trip when trying to recover the gas reimbursement promised with our contract with Imoova and Indie Campers. We took our trip in July, and am still trying to get someone from the Finance team to reach out to me to figure out why the payment that I was supposedly sent is still not in my bank account at the end of December. The customer service is absolutely awful when trying to figure out an issue. There is a chat that takes a very long time to have someone respond, the customer service phone number does not help with any of these types of problems, and I have been asking for weeks to simply speak with someone on the Finance team to get an actual bank document showing they sent the deposit or reissue the payment and no one has contacted me. I have tried every route to attempt resolution and am still waiting. The customer service is useless. Imoova has been looped in all my emails and hasn't attempted to assist. Probably the worst customer experience I have ever dealt with in my life. The vehicle that we had been given had severe body damage to the rear quarter panel in addition to some minor things that we thought that we could live with since we were on a honeymoon. We were not picky for what we used the van for. It was good. It was a place to sleep but the van is not the highlight of the trip. So we looked past all the flaws. The real problem started about a month for our trip when we received an almost $800 charge on our credit card from Indy campers and they claimed that we cause damage to the rear quarter panel. Handy campers claimed that we caused about a 3-in scratch on the already extremely damaged quarter panel. We reached out to Indy campers. They did not feel the charge was correct and wanted to confirm details of when the photo that they provided is proof was taken. The only way to reach indicappers is through their online portal and we received no messed back for weeks. After not receiving a reply we asked our travel agent to reach out for us. She also never received a reply back. It appeared that Indy campers was unwilling to provide any customer service and was treating us very poorly. We disputed the charge on our Visa who did actually receive a reply from Indy campers but ultimately our Visa sided with us and said that the charge was fraudulent. Visa from chargeback and refunded our money for us. And that was the end of it. I thought until 9 months later I had a call from a collections agency stating that they were working on behalf of Indie camper's. It was only after I left a couple of bad reviews that Indy campers. Finally, after 9 months, reach out to us said that they would refund $450 of the $800 charge. I reached out again just to convey my displeasure with their customer service, but I had some more questions for them and that I was looking forward to rectifying the issue. The next reply back I received from them was, and I'm paraphrasing, oops, sorry we didn't realize we already sent this to a collection agency and you're out of luck. This company is beyond the worst customer experience I've ever experienced in my life. I have never been so disrespected and treated this way before. I have now read and learned that multiple people similar or worse experiences than I have and if Indy campers is not willing to help rectify any issue that in part they caused, I hope that I can stop someone from spending several thousand dollars renting any vehicle from them. I encourage future renters to look to look at other reviews place on this company. Indie campers is cheap for a reason and they will end up costing you more than any other company including coming back 9 months after your trip and charging you again. I will also point out that they offered the refund if I would remove the the negative reviews, which leads me to believe that their views are so high cuz people take the money and then delete the reviews. They also ask you to review their stay prior to leaving their return Depot, which means they do not charge people additional until after they have left a positive review. read more

booked with them in Norway June 2025. The van had moderate damage and wreaked of smoke on pickup. All documented at that time. The van then broke down day 2/7. Would not turn on at all. They could not get it towed because it was "too remote" and they would not supply us with a new van even though I purchased the enhanced insurance that guaranteed that. They expected me to stay there with the vehicle with my two young children until they could arrange a tow truck. Two days we waited with a vehicle with no power and no prospects of rescue. Customer support over what's app was all apologies, excuses and huge delays in responses with no solutions. When I insisted on leaving due to safety concerns (no power, running out of food), they threatened an abandonment fee. We had to leave anyway with no support from indie campers. Once home, I spent Countless hours emailing and calling the customer service trying to get a refund for services not provided but was blockaded by the customer service representatives. They insisted that no one Annie campers has a direct email account to contact. Online submission with complaints and inquiries were never answered. Just awful. Months later the only way a refund was achieved was by doing a charge back on my credit card. A few back and forth with the credit card company including what appears to be fraudulent emails submitted by them, they finally stopped disputing the charge back and I got some of what I was owed back. Here we are almost one year later and they charged my card again for an amount that surpasses my original cost. I am now back to square one demanding a refund and preparing to do a chargeback. Do not trust this company. They have shown no integrity in this process. They failed to provide the services agreed upon and are unwilling to refund. There are Reddit and facebook groups dedicated to documenting horrible experiences with this company. They will remove poor reviews. Do not rent with this company. read more

Just a few hours before picking up the camper, they called me with the final details (I had already completed the online check-in and paid in full for the rental, extra accessories, and premium insurance). I pointed out on the phone that I didn't have a physical credit card, and they said it wasn't possible to take the vehicle because a physical credit card is required to make the deposit. This important information was not clearly provided to me during the booking on the website They told me that they couldn't do anything and that I had to give up on the camper. I therefore asked for a refund, since I had spent almost EUR 1.000, but they told me they couldn't fulfil my request. They left me unsupported in a city that is not mine. After posting experience on social media and asking for a refund, they have now sent a letter threatening to sue over the videos showing the issue on social media and sharing the experience of their (lack of) customer service. So not only will they not make things right, you may also get a threatening letter saying they are "considering legal action" if you share your experience. Go with ANYONE ELSE. poor booking experience, I wrote a poor review to get their attention and then 15+ email exchanges, that was made correct and we continued with our booking. in having the camper van less than 48 hours we have had a poor experience with dirty items at pick up, "sensors being broken but being told the tanks for dirty water were empty"...but they were full and the camper started to really smell, a flat tire due to the air extender they had on the back well (or at least what tire discounter told us when they fixed it) a driver side mirror that doesn't stay in place and a table that collapsed while driving, bedding rented has holes in it...this place is a joke and families should not rent from them they do not take care of their vehicles or items inside. I waited 45 minutes to get my camper that was just sitting there. When I got it it barely had a 1/4 tank of gas. I drove the camper a grand total of 140 miles before the check engine light came on. Their troubleshooting line was a joke and they basically told me to carry on unless I lose engine power it's fine. As a woman traveling alone in an unfamiliar country I thought that was the most ridiculous idea. Their next offer was for me to spend my vacation taking their vehicle to a repair shop. No thank you. I turned it back in to them, now just 2 days from my departure and a half a days drive from my location. Their policy is that if they can get you a replacement (another unreliable POS) within 24 hours they will NOT refund you ANY of your rental. Absolute and total joke of a company. DO NOT USE INDIE CAMPERS! We rented a camper Jeep for three nights, picking up and dropping off in Seattle. From the start, things felt off. There were no signs or indications we were in the right place until we noticed a few vans with the Indie Campers logo. No one greeted us, and we were ignored for a while before Gabriella finally approached us. We paid an extra $175 for an early pickup, but she said the car wasn't ready yet. She also asked if we needed the electric cooler (two were broken), saying she had only one cord to fix it but needed to get two Jeeps out that day. Of course we needed the cooler--we were camping and needed to keep our food cold! Then came the shock: she told us they needed a $2,700 insurance deposit, all handled through her personal cell phone, where she stored our credit card details and driver's license info. Never have I paid such a hefty deposit. She even mentioned a family that got stuck for hours trying to come up with the deposit because there are no refunds. Rather than paying that deposit, we reluctantly shelled out another $115 to upgrade to premium insurance, reducing the deposit to $600, which still felt outrageous. Even with premium insurance, there was no coverage for damage inside the vehicle or anything above or below the door lines. We drove off skeptical, and it got worse. At our campsite in Mount Rainier, we realized the windshield wipers were broken. The ladder didn't fit the tent and was broken, making it dangerous to use. The water tank was half-empty and broken--the tubing wasn't attached, and they'd tried to "fix" it with tape. We couldn't use the sink or shower the entire trip. We paid for a bedding kit and were given airline blankets from Delta--seriously, stamped "PROPERTY OF DELTA"! At that point, we drove to the visitor center to get Wi-Fi and called customer support. They gave us three options: drive two hours back to fix the problems, get a replacement car, or file a complaint and try to get a refund. We did all three. The next day, we wasted 4 hours driving--2 hours to the warehouse, 2 hours back to the park--to get a replacement. The employees even said they weren't supposed to give us a new car, despite the premium insurance stating we should get a replacement. The new vehicle didn't have a working sink either, but at that point, we just wanted to enjoy the park for my birthday. Later, we found out that employees forged our signatures on the new contract without telling us. Then Indie Campers demanded another $600 deposit before we had even received our first one back. They tried to charge the card we used to add extra miles instead of the card used for the reservation. When we returned the camper, they wouldn't close our reservation until we paid the second deposit. We asked for a manager--they don't have one. We asked for the regional manager's contact info and were refused. They wouldn't even let us speak to the regional manager on the phone. We paid the second deposit but refused to leave until the employee conducted the inspection and closed our rental. The employee made excuses, saying he was from the San Francisco location, which has worse reviews than Seattle. After filing a complaint and sending photos of all the issues, they were unhelpful. They said we didn't follow the contract because we didn't contact them through WhatsApp, even though we called customer support. There's no mention of WhatsApp in the contract. They responded that we should've used a QR code that wasn't in either vehicle, as shown in our photos. They replied, "Sorry for the confusion," but still refused to help. Their own Terms and Conditions state customers can contact Indie Campers through customer support or email, which we did. But they will find any excuse to avoid helping. We spent over $3,000 for three nights of misery. This company is a scam. They will try to take every dollar they can from you. If you still decide to rent from them, STAY FOR THE INSPECTION AT DROP-OFF to avoid being ripped off. Take pictures and videos of everything, or you'll regret it. read more

The "customer service" with Indie Campers is ATROCIOUS! The only reason they are getting 1 star is because I am not able to give 0 stars. We rented a camper in Arizona on April 3. We were in the desert. We had the following issues: The refrigerator didn't work. The kitchen faucet was missing a piece so when you turned on the water, it shot everywhere. The water hose had a HUGE leak (in the desert!). Every dish and piece of cookware was dirty and required a significant cleaning before using. We paid for a linen kit. Got 2 fitted sheets. No flat sheet. There was no window cover for the front of the cab when parked, therefore no privacy or sun protection. There was no screen over the forward vent. The dump hose fittings fell off and the hose was broken and unusable. There was a bad tire pressure sensor. The "check engine light" came on during the trip. This was all reported on day 1 of our trip. We were offered a partial refund, and were told to reach out after our trip was over. After MANY emails (over 20), we have still not received our refund, despite every response stating that "your refund will be reflected in your account in a few days." There is no way to speak with a supervisor, and when I call, I am unable to reach anyone in the United States. The equipment that they rent is sub par, in poor condition, and there is nothing you can do about it. DO NOT, I repeat, do NOT rent from this company! Entering this business is like descending into a chaotic pit of fiery hell. People standing around doing nothing, people working on the wrong vehicles and people starting tasks and not finishing them; all while customers wait for multiple hours to perform a prescheduled pickup and... did I mention that while all that is going on they aren't even working on the vehicle you're actually waiting for? Not a fun or safe place to bring a family- unless you want your kids to inhale cigarette chain-smoking while running around an industrial area during your MULTIPLE HOUR WAIT to receieve a set of keys and a ten minute walkthrough? Did I mention that said pickup is scheduled precisely and they're rude and unapologetic when they blow hours past it? If management is reading this, start by firing that lady with the crocs and socks. She's totally clueless; classic inept manager. misdirecting the team while damaging customer relationships. She also tries to throw team members "under the bus" when they are clearly struggling with her incompetence as much as the customer is. Why do you think I'm taking the time on vacation to write this? Sorry to make this so direct but what my family experienced was unacceptable and the manager is responsible. Put that older detailing guy in charge. He's the only person onsite who has any business talking to customers. You need to do a full reset or shut the business down. You're also creating a lot of liability for the parent company with your sketchy business practices - including your illegal registration practices with the Montana tags and total lack of the proper maintenance of the vehicles or even standard operating procedures. Plus, they are dirty and gross because they aren't given enough time to prep them. The manager didn't even ask to start cleaning until the pickup time. I feel like the problems probably start at the top with ownership, not sure you can fire yourself big boss man but maybe corporate can. I wish I could say something positive but I just feel sorry for the new guy working there and the super well-mannered, classy, responsible cleaning guy. Everything about this business, besides those two nice people, is just pathetic. Look at how the shop is maintained. The floor is flooded, there's tape around the freshwater hose and a pile of rusty cookware sitting in a giant tub of water. Where are you guys even dumping the grey water tanks???? No onsite place to dispose of that?? P.S. you need to RINSE OUT the toilet cassettes after you empty them and sanitize them with bleach and wipe down all the toilet assemblies. Absolutely unacceptable experience with Indie Campers - I do not recommend them to anyone. Indie Campers demonstrated an alarming level of mismanagement, disorganization, bad faith, and total disrespect for the customer. It started with an unilateral change to the reserved vehicle: I paid extra for a campervan with an interior WC and shower, and just two days before the trip they assigned me, without any notice or permission, a van with none of those features. I spent an entire day on calls to resolve the obvious - that I would not accept an inferior vehicle and that it was their responsibility to ensure the advertised fleet was actually available. Customer service was appalling at every stage: * They only answered in English, ignoring local customers. * Their phone number is deliberately hidden on their website to make contact difficult. * Staff had zero technical knowledge about the vehicles and could not answer questions. * When they finally acknowledged the mistake, they said they could only deliver an equivalent van one day after the original reservation, forcing us to delay our trip and completely ruining our holiday plan. * Even then, they initially refused to refund the lost night, requiring yet another heated discussion just to get that resolved. One hour before pickup, another surprise: the vehicle they promised had "a problem" and was no longer available. They guaranteed another supposedly equivalent van - but offered no proper instructions for someone renting a campervan for the first time. And worse still: at collection, the van was poorly prepared and unsafe: * The grey water tank was half full. * The fresh water tank was nowhere near 100%. * The gas bottle valve was jammed, and couldn't be turned as the staff had shown us, making it impossible to shut off properly and creating a serious safety risk for anyone driving. When I noticed this, I tried calling - they told me technical issues during the trip had to be handled via WhatsApp, where they never replied. We tried to fix it with help from other experienced campers, without success. I wrote emails - they took more than two days to respond, with no practical solution other than telling us to go "sort it out" ourselves at a shop. At the return, more proof of bad faith: * During the post-rental inspection they confirmed the van was in perfect condition. They guaranteed the security deposit would be released within six business days because it was already "cancelled". * In reality, it took 20 business days, only after repeated email complaints. * To top it off, one month after the rental, without any prior contact or authorization, they charged my card the full excess amount (€199) from the premium insurance, claiming they found "a scratch" on the van. * At the moment of inspection, they confirmed there was no damage at all. Yet a month later, they conveniently found a scratch and decided to bill me for it, hiding behind a contract full of small print that gives them 30 days to "detect" and charge for damages. This is blatantly abusive and unacceptable. They used my payment details unilaterally, without consent, to charge for damage that did not exist at return and which conveniently appeared a month later. Their only response was: "it's in the contract and you accepted it." That is the level of seriousness and customer care they offer: none. Conclusion: * Disorganized company. * Abysmal customer service - before, during, and after the rental. * No technical preparation for the service they sell. * Serious safety issues due to poor vehicle preparation. * Clear bad faith and abuse in handling payments and post-rental charges. I do not recommend Indie Campers to anyone. There are many other companies in the market that offer this service with professionalism, seriousness, and transparency - qualities that Indie Campers, unfortunately, completely lacks. Scam Alert - Indie Campers Scam Alert: Indie Campers Rips Customers Off with Broken Vans and Zero Support I waited over two hours just to receive a camper in poor condition: broken table, stained mattress, and a warning light the staff couldn't even explain. They showed very little understand of how the vehicle worked and made no effort to help. One staff member, Lorenzo, even admitted that the camper was not in very good condition. Despite all these problems, you're forced to accept the camper or lose your entire rental fee. On the second day, I discovered by chance that the gas cylinders connected inside the camper were not shut off properly, causing a gas leak -- a potentially dangerous fire hazard. This was only found because I checked the area where the cylinders were stored. Also on day two, the handbrake failed, and the camper was undriveable. I've now been stranded for nearly two days with two children - and Indie Campers has done nothing to help. I've messaged them multiple times. I've received empty apologies, but still no action, no solution, and no sense of urgency. They are painfully slow to respond - if they respond at all. Meanwhile, I've lost money on non-refundable bookings, the trip is falling apart, and I'm left dealing with the consequences. There was no compensation whatsoever for the camper's condition, no refund, and absolutely no responsibility taken. This is a company that takes your money, delivers a broken product, and then disappears behind a chat system they barely answer. Indie Campers should not be trusted. It feels like a scam. To provide context for our experience, we used Indie Campers in Washington state to rent a jeep with a pop-up tent. From the get-go, things were off. We arrived 30 minutes after our vehicle should have been ready, yet we pulled up to find an employee still cleaning our (very dirty) vehicle. No sweat - it's summer in Washington state - we get it. However, what put us off was the lack of acknowledgement. The employee continued cleaning, without saying hi, until I asked about our reservation. He then proceeded to make us wait another 10 minutes while he took his time wiping down our dirty rental. When he finally sat us down to go over everything, he told us that the essentials package add-on (which we paid an extra $97.57 for) was missing a few items: a bed sheet, a duvet cover, and pillow cases. He told us we could buy some at Walmart and bring the receipt to be reimbursed, but the whole reason we added on that package was to avoid doing anything of the sort. He mentioned he barely had time to clean the interior of the vehicle, let alone clean the outside and have time to do laundry or buy new sheets. This was a red flag already, signaling a severely understaffed company. When going over the vehicle, he asked "So, what do you need to know?". He didn't demonstrate how to actually pop the tent up. He only told us to unlatch all the latches and undo the tie down straps, but didn't specify any order. He very quickly went over the sink setup and other items, but he was in a rush to get to the next customer who had been waiting for 20 minutes at this point. As we are about to leave, we noticed the vehicle gas tank was almost empty, with less than 50 miles of range left. I ran in and asked the employee if it was supposed to be full, and he simply said, return it as you found it, so they're encouraging guests to return it empty, inconveniencing the next guest with the task of having to gas up. So we started our trip, and everything was going fine until we tried to use the stove. The gas canister provided was empty, so thankfully we added on the essentials package, which provided an extra two gas cans. They only gave us one, but good thing we added that on, because had we not, the stove included in the rental would have been completely useless. On the third day, I was setting up the pop-up tent as instructed (again, not demonstrated), when the hydraulics on one side started to rise, causing the other side to try and compensate which ultimately made one of the latches rip off. I tried to contact via phone to let them know, but all we got was a foreign customer service rep who told us to contact the company online. I wanted to make sure we would not be responsible for this, as it wasn't due to anything I did, and we weren't given a demonstration of how to even pop up the tent. So I contact the company online via live chat and again, it is a foreign customer service rep who wasn't any help. I wanted to 1. notify them so they could prepare for the next rental and 2. ensure that we would not be charged for this. The only response I was getting was "do you need roadside assistance?" to which I said no, and they said "Have a wonderful and safe trip." Truly no help at all. So we return the vehicle and explain everything that happened. This time we are talking with the area manager, who is based in Santa Monica, but was brought out to help the Seattle branch due to being understaffed. When we told the manager about everything that happened, he mentioned that the customer service team did not notify him at all. It's clear this company has poor communication. However, the manager seemed very nice truthfully, and explained that the damage was going to be $248 for the broken latch. At first, I was going to challenge that, but he was kind and offered to take off $50 due to the lack of bedding, coming to a grand total of $198 additional charges. At this point, I didn't have the energy to argue and I was okay paying that, as the inconvenience, though no fault of our own, was going to delay their next rental. You can imagine our shock when we received a damage report outlining charges for $669.60. You can imagine I was even more shocked when the actual charge on my card appeared as $809.33. What happened to the $198 charge that the area manager told me would appear? Not to mention, after I reached out and filed our complaint, I got a whole transcript of someone else's complaint. I responded to the email saying, "Why am I receiving this information/transcript? This isn't me" to which they replied it was (when it very clearly wasn't). Unfortunately, an accident did occur -- and we did everything by the book. Fast forward a a couple of months later: instead of handling it through their insurance (as they should have), the company completely dropped the ball and is now trying to make us pay for the damage -- despite our premium coverage. They even sent a debt collection agency after us! We weren't at fault, we followed every step they asked us to, and we had top-tier insurance. But apparently, that means nothing to this company. Their failure to file the claim properly is now somehow our problem? Completely unacceptable and borderline fraudulent. This has turned into a nightmare, and we're now stuck dealing with threats and stress for something we should have been protected from. We trusted this company -- and that was a mistake.
