We tried coming here last year, but they were closed a few days before and after Christmas. This year we're in town closer to New Year's and thankfully, we were able to try Maggie Mae's in downtown Brunswick. This definitely appears to be a popular place with locals because most people are greeted by name as they enter the restaurant. I was greeted with a smile and a good morning as soon as I entered the restaurant. They gave me a menu and told that I could sit anywhere I would like. The server was very friendly and relatively attentive. The dining room is adequately filled with six large larger tables and a number of smaller ones that are perfect for two people. They also have four picnic tables outside. They serve breakfast and lunch all day. Yelp shows that they're open until 3 PM, but the menu shows 7 AM to 2 PM Monday through Friday, and the grill is turned off at 1:30 PM. I decided to try their ham and cheese omelette. The menu shows a peace symbol next to the best selling items. The omelette comes with hashbrowns or grits and your choice of toast. The server suggested raisin toast or the biscuit. I typically do not order biscuits because they tend to be dry. Their biscuit was surprisingly good. It was sliced in half and grilled on both sides. It tasted soft and moist after applying butter and strawberry jam. Similar to the biscuit, the ham and cheese omelette was also really good. It was loaded with ham and there was possibly a little more ham than cheese. Overall, I had a positive experience. I was in town visiting my daughter, and we decided to grab some breakfast. I love small local places, and this one had a good rating on yelp. Saw they used disposable wares, so I was hesitant at first. We were greeted when we walked in and were seated quickly. We ordered, and the food arrived quickly. The waitress forgot my toast, so I let her know. She said, "Yes, ma'am. I'll bring that right out." Then she went and sat down at a table, holding a baby and talking to some customers. Fifteen minutes later, and still no toast, another staff walked by and asked if we were doing okay. I mentioned the toast and asked for a refill of coffee. She completed both in under two minutes. As we finished our meals, we saw a staff stack coffee cups on the counter. He dropped one cup on the floor, picked it up, and stacked it with the rest of the cups. He noticed we saw him, and he signaled to us to keep quiet. He came over to our table to collect of disposable wares, and I asked him about the cup. He pointed at the carpet and again motioned to us to settle down. I went to the counter to pay my bill, our waitress still holding a baby and chatting. She ran over and asked how our visit was. Food was great, the coffee cup incident concerning. The gentleman who dropped the cup came over and motioned to the carpet again. Staff looked at him and said okay. When I questioned if that was okay to them, they said no. The gentleman came over with a coffee cup, and the staff took it. Maybe that was the right cup and maybe it wasn't. Between the missing toast, socializing waitress, and the dropped coffee cup - I decided this place was not for me. read more

Where else in the world can you bump into a colleague from three-plus decades ago by accident? We stopped in after reviewing quick lunch spots after leaving Saint Simons. Maggie Mae's look fun and it was. Food: a unique, toasted Cuban sans mustard with a heap of tater tots. Also tasty egg salad with pasta salad. Both with water. All good. Ambiance: this is a local oasis with a wide breakfast and lunch menu, including soup of the day. Sandwiches are specialities but we hate to have missed breakfast. Not opulent but a hometown feel you can't import. Service. Perfect. From ordering to delivery to a quick "hey" from the boss. We'll go again when in the area. read more

A business that has been open for over 40 years in this town & well known for their southern family recipes is one of my absolute favs!! The prices are unbeatable for the portions & quality of food! I also always appreciate the options of turkey sausage & turkey bacon, which believe it or not are hard to come by at more southern restaurants. Loved stopping through here while visiting home French Toast & Turkey Sausage ($6.95): 9/10 Sooo yummy! I don't like cinnamon & these had the perfect tough to them where I could still really enjoy them. My fiancé and I were downtown for some errands and decided to get some breakfast while we were out. We decided on Maggie Mae's because it had good reviews, was locally owned, and was very close to where we were. Going in, you can tell they treat their customers like family and have plenty of regulars. It felt like a family reunion vibe in there. I got a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel with oatmeal and my fiancé got bacon, eggs, and toast. It was good, nothing you can't make at home. I think it was only $15 for both of us so it's definitely cheap. They serve all their drinks and food with single use items (styrofoam cups and plates) which I don't love, but less dishes for them I guess. I probably wouldn't go back, but it's a good place to stop and get breakfast if you're hungry. They also serve lunch all day, which may be better. I didn't look at the lunch menu. read more

We love visiting mom and pop restaurants, especially when we travel. There weren't many to choose from that sold breakfast all day, we got there around noon for breakfast. Maggie Mae's certainly has the feel of a small town diner with the friendly service and a lot of locals eating there (police, firemen, city hall workers and citizens). Maggie herself was working and stopped by to make sure our food met our expectations and we had all we need. The service was great and each server made us feel like we belonged there. The food was great and all we expected. We got it fairly quick considering how busy it got and only 2 cooks. It was hot and tasty. I really liked my loaded home fries. Not necessarily a bad thing but everything was served in/on disposable plates/cups, except for the coffee cup. The city water tastes somewhat like ocean water but it was tolerable if you're thirsty. My only suggestion would be (certainly wouldn't prevent me from visiting again if I come through town again) to hang some pics/decor on the walls, they were all plain white. I would also get some cozier feeling seating (tables & chairs). The place lacked character bc of its simplicity. Visiting Brunswick and found this place on Google Maps. It's highly rated and open til 3pm daily, that's enough for me. There is some street parking, and a small lot on the side, you'll enter the lot from the side street. Out front there are picnic tables with umbrellas. When you walk in the door, you're met with a welcoming smile from the person at the counter, and he hands you a menu. They do offer takeout, but we decided to eat in, there are plenty of tables. You can tell this place is very focused on their regulars, everyone seemed to know each other by first name. People calling and ordering, then coming in to pick up or sitting down for lunch, there seemed to be a quick chat with everyone who came in or out. The staff we interacted with were all very friendly too. When we walked in the door they seemed a bit surprised to see us, it was kind of funny. The food was all very good. We didn't get anything fancy, but it was all made fresh and was served hot, even the toast. I was excited to try the grits because of other reviews, but they were all out by 11am so that was a bummer. I'll definitely eat here when we visit again, and I'll show up earlier next time. Side note, all the utensils and plates are disposable (plastic,) so you toss it all in the trash on your way out. read more

Talk about sweet, down home cooking! This small, nondescript building, opens into a rough around the edges room that is filled with love & happiness. The owner and server were so sweet and welcoming. There were a ton of locals that made our experience even nicer. Our breakfast food was more than delicious. It was served piping hot exactly how we requested. My hash browns were nice and crunchy. I'm glad we found this spot while visiting Brunswick. I would definitely stop in again the next time I'm in town. read more

Absolutely delicious! This was our first time here. We wanted breakfast, but neither of us love "breakfast food", so this was the perfect spot. I had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with the sweet potato french fries,and my husband had the chili slaw dogs with tater tots. GREAT SERVICE AND FOOD. If you love local diners like I do, this place is worth the 15-minute drive from I95. Our group tried the biscuits and gravy, French toast, pork sausage, eggs and grits. The grits and biscuits are made fresh every morning. The service was great with genuine southern charm and hospitality. The dining area was buzzing with local patrons and conversations among neighbors and friends. I'd come back just to people watch and enjoy the grits and coffee. The dining area had plenty of seating. Part of the charm is sharing a table with folks you don't know. The restaurant is easy to find. City hall is across the street. A friend had eggs with a biscuit, and she said the biscuit was "all right." My husband said the same about the bacon.
