Waited an hour for the food still not here. My martini was served in a plastic solo cup. Great ambience being on the deck, but I have no idea why I can't get a crabcake sandwich and a salad. Food was absolutely horrible!! We had po Boys, the Cajun gravy" was a weird sticky brown tasteless goo. It saturated the bread that made it completely saturated crap. We dined at The Wharf on Jekyll Island on July 3rd while celebrating a birthday, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing from start to finish. About a week before our visit, I called and made a reservation for six people at 7:00 PM. I specifically requested indoor seating with a view and was told that would not be a problem. When we arrived, the host attempted to split our party of six between two separate tables inside by the window, explaining that there was not enough room for us to sit together. I'm not sure why a reservation for six was accepted if the restaurant could not accommodate six people at the same table. We eventually found our own table outside where we could all sit together. The next issue was the menu. The "fresh local catch" of the day was Atlantic salmon. It was clearly not a local catch and appeared to be previously frozen. On one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year on the Georgia coast, it was surprising that there was no actual fresh local fish available. Service was also inconsistent. The birthday boy ordered the shrimp and grits, and his meal arrived approximately 10 minutes after everyone else at the table had already been served. We had to ask multiple times about the missing entrée before it finally arrived. We also repeatedly requested napkins because the paper towel holder at our table was empty. After several requests, we still never received a replacement roll and ended up taking napkins from another table ourselves. As for the food, the rib nuggets were absolutely drenched in spicy aioli. A drizzle would have complemented the dish, but instead the nuggets were swimming in sauce, making it overwhelmingly spicy and unenjoyable. Finally, I was very disappointed to learn that the garlic mashed potatoes are cross-contaminated with shellfish. For anyone with a shellfish allergy, this is a serious concern. The location and views are beautiful, the live music was great and we were excited to celebrate a special occasion here. Unfortunately, poor reservation management, slow service, and several food-related issues made this a disappointing experience. read more

Checked out the Wharf just for a quick dessert n' drinks, the Key Lime Pie was very good and the Tropical Green brew was a bit too sweet, but it was alright. Awesome service from Ryalin at the front desk and got us seated quickly as we had no reservations and Katie our server was quite helpful during our visit that evening. The first beer I ordered was a local, then they came back and said they didn't have it. The second was a Stella , but it was just a notch above room temp. The third was a Yuengling which was cold and good. We ordered the southern boil which was just above room temp and was heavy on sausage and potatoes vs the seafood we expected. Oysters on the half shell- so fresh, large, and delicious! Chowder seafood soup- flavorful/good amount of seafood. Fish and chips - crispy and cooked well. Shrimp and grits- was very much enjoyed. Had lot of favor but was smaller than expected. Fish Fry with garlic egg and sweet potato fries. I really enjoyed this meal. The fish was crispy outside and nice and tender on the inside. Eggs were great and the fries were cooked well too. We also ordered Banana pudding. It came in a Mason jar. Her only change would be to add more caramel. Haha! Love the location, love the Island (built for island life), and the food is usually just ok. Seemed to have spotty service, yet they were not busy at all. If short handed, sharing that with the customer would be well received and allow for an understanding of the "why so slow". And to issue new POS system 10 minutes before opening with no training is not the best operating method, especially when the customer is impacted. But, understandable why the wait staff was frustrated and the order was "messed" up. One of three items arrived 11 minutes before the other food - and we were told "it's the new system's fault" (actually it's the wait staff fault for not checking - or even not accepting 1 of 3 and just refire the 1 so all 3 arrived together). And - for real - first time - the fish was sooooooo dry (catch of the day - swordfish). Love, just love sitting outside enjoying the breeze, wildlife, and water - best of the best with regard to atmosphere. We will be back, hope the new POS is not so new, staff has training, and the manager actually manages. read more

We stopped in here for lunch and had a great experience. We sat inside over outside. Our server was a little slow but was friendly. First day on Jekyll Island and decided to give The Wharf a try for dinner. The restaurant is on the water with a beautiful outdoor dining area which is dog friendly. We only had a short wait for a table. Our server arrived shortly after being seated and we ordered drinks and asked for a fresh bowl of water for our pup. The bowl that was at our table when we sat down was absolutely filthy. She brought us another bowl of water which was almost as dirty as the first one. We ordered the Wharf burger with sweet potato fries and a dozen raw oysters. The burger and oysters arrived and looked amazing. The burger was ordered to be medium cooked but was actually rare. My husband ate a few bites but couldn't eat anymore due to the undercooking. The sweet potato fries were very good and the oysters were too. We don't like to complain normally so we didn't say anything about the water or the burger. What I couldn't believe was when she came to our table to clear it, she took the tray of oyster shells and dumped the melted ice right behind my chair through the deck which splashed all over the back of my legs and shoes. I was astonished. Our experience there was not a good one and we will not be returning. read more

We came to the bar for cocktails at sunset. Wonderful! Matthew at the bar was great! I ordered the sorghum grain bowl. He recommended a green goddess dressing. Fabulous! Happy to report that my husband and I had a great meal at the Wharf! We were seated outside on the deck, and we were lucky, because even though it was August it was very comfortable. My husband had the fried pickles to start, which were cool because they were sliced lengthwise. They were great. I had the corn ribs. What is a corn rib? I will tell you - the chef cuts an ear of corn into quarters lengthwise and then deep fries the quarters (the "ribs") so they're easy to eat. They are delicious! They covered them in Parm and spicy mayo - phenomenal. Get them if you go. Then my husband had the Southern fried chicken sandwich, and I had the sorghum grain bowl with blackened redfish. His sandwich was excellent, according to him, and my grain bowl was really delicious. I am not sure whether it was sorghum or quinoa, but it had edamame, tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley and lettuce, and came with a lemon dressing on the side that really went well with the fish. The fish was their fresh catch of the day and it was indeed fresh :) We also had dessert, my husband had the key lime pie and I had the banana pudding in a mason-style glass. They were both good, I might not bother ordering them again, but I'm glad we tried them out. We had some pretty lame drinks on the island - but not at this fabulous restaurant, where I had a Frose that was quite strong! My husband had the frozen margarita and it was great too. They have live music Thursday-Saturday nights, and the band was super, playing 70s classic rock and really vibing. Also our friendly and prompt server, Corey, saved me from a large bug that he spotted about to land on my elbow and whisked it away before I ever even quite saw it, which was good for everyone, because I am not a bug person. I had to ask 3 (THREE) different people for silverware so that my brother could eat his meal. I asked for more butter for the hush puppies- you know the kind that is mixed and in a container as a spread. they brought a SLAB off of a stick of butter. our waitress never once checked on us and I'm not exaggerating. the only saving grace is that the food was edible and the band was good. worst service i have ever experienced in my life. read more

We stopped by for a beer and a bite to eat. It was incredible. The coldest beer on Jekyll island. The seafood chowder was delicious. I wish we had come sooner. The view and the sunset were amazing. I thought the River view would t be as good as the ocean but it was was better! Everyone was taking pictures of the sunset. We are definitely coming back for dinner. I wish we had come for dinner. I am grateful that I stopped by the wharf when I was in Jekyll Island for a conference. Earlier that day, the president of the association, holding the event shared her experience about Jekyll Island club and the Victorian homes. I thought it sounded cool but that evening I was on my own for dinner and got on to Yelp to look for a good local seafood spot. To my surprise when I drove to the wharf, I found out it is right at the Jekyll Island club! I parked my car and walked around just a little bit and was absolutely floored by the gilded age mansions the hotel, the landscaping, the palm trees. Honestly words cannot describe how gorgeous that area is. The wharf was a good restaurant. I really liked the coconut Mojito. I got as well as the ceviche for appetizers. I ordered shrimp for my entrée and had a side of macaroni and cheese. This may have easily been the best macaroni and cheese I've ever eaten in my entire life, which is saying a lot because I love macaroni and cheese. The service was OK and I ended up sitting inside because it was windy that evening. I absolutely would recommend this restaurant. It is not too fancy, but it is not a hole in the wall. read more

Quick cuisine. In 70 years, many in coastal Florida, I've never had better shrimp. The order was Calabash fried shrimp. You get a dozen or so with corn-infused high puppies and a side (boiled potatoes). Great view and service. But the shrimp is worth the $10 toll to get on Jekyll Island alone. read more

Caleb, our server, was outstanding--attentive, friendly, and made great recommendations. We kicked it off with a flight of local beers and some of the freshest oysters I've had in a long time. For the meal, we went all in: a whole fried fish (yes, the whole thing--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked), ribs that were full of flavor, and a lineup of Southern sides that didn't miss--mac & cheese, green beans, potatoes, and hush puppies, all delicious and clearly homemade. The sauces were the cherry on top--house-made and full of flavor. The view? Unreal. Right on the water with music playing and a breeze off the marsh--it just doesn't get better. Beautiful area, decent service, terrible portion sizing and food quality. My boyfriend and I shared the Low Country Boil which specifically states "shareable entree for 2". Ate here after travels around the area simply sightseeing. Wonderful outdoor dining. Had a band singing. Every table inside and outside was filled. We ate at 4pm in June and sat right down, so I'm not sure if there is a typical wait. When we left, it was full, which is typically a good sign. Ha. Great food and great seafood. On night two, we sat out on the deck, overlooking the river & beautiful sunset. Corey was the best server we've had in a long, LONG time! He was very personable, engaging super attentive! Corey should manage and train the staff, in my opinion! (Keep on, keepin' on, Corey!!) Try the fish & chips if you like haddock, it was outstanding!! This was our second favorite dinner on island. We had excellent service -- even though they were packed. And the food was very, very good. The other plus was that they had my husband's favorite dessert which we also enjoyed. He had a shrimp roll --which although didn't look the best -- was quite good. And I had their wedge salad to which I added fried oysters. This was outstanding. A fresh salad topped with huge creamy oysters that were lightly battered and some of the best I've had in some time. We both were very pleased with what we'd ordered. Then for dessert, we shared their banana pudding. No matter where we go, my husband always asks if they have this on their menu. It's become a standing joke for us -- from a hamburger joint to a steak house. His mom used to make this for him and it's his favorite. So, we were pleasantly surprised to see it on the menu. Of course, we had to order it. It turned out to be an excellent version with a marshamallowy type topping on the creamy pudding with vanilla wafers and lots of fresh banana pieces. We sat inside as it was quite hot, but there's outside seating as well. Plus, they were just setting up the band as we were leaving if that if something you would enjoy. We'd definitely come back here if on island in the future -- and certainly recommend that you include this place in your list of choices. read more

Been here twice now and both times very good. Today, we sat inside cus it was Georgia Hot out. I had the fish & chips platter and it was the best F&C I've had in the south!
