I grew up in Southern California, which has a big Vietnamese community and thus a wide variety of delicious Vietnamese food. In comparison, Baltimore is quite lacking in the Asian food scene, but Indochine has successfully been able to satisfy pho cravings. I've been here twice and have had a good experience both times. Good flavors, fair portions and pricing, and fast service. Last time, I did have an issue with the water because it smelled strongly of stale tap water (to the point where I didn't drink any even though I was getting really thirsty). Besides that, things went smoothly, and will be back if I want pho and don't want to break out of the neighborhood. read more

Broth Love...Broth Loveeeeee. I've walked past this spot a dozen times and it wasn't until recently that I stopped in for lunch to go. I ordered the Shrimp & Calamari Pho. OMG! Ahmazing... The shrimp & calamari was seasoned just right, as was the broth! They also packed it to go so that you could assemble and season to your own liking. It came with the standard fare of: sprouts, jalapeno slices, cilantro, lime, onion and basil leaves. I liked that you could build on additional meat and other stuffs to your order. A small was about 10 bucks but, was well worth it. Next time I have a craving, I will not hesitate to pay these guys a visit. As an aside, on my visit they looked like they were in a state of remodeling. They should work on making the front portion of the restaurant a little bit more easier on the eyes. Additionally, if you pay with a credit card and the order is below 15 bucks; there is a charge. Fortunately the awesome guy who took my order did not charge me this go around. :) read more

Ordered off uber eats tonight, never been here before. First thing I noticed was the quantity of food. I got the combo pho and it was loaded. Lots of great meat, fresh veggies, and lots of noodles. It was huge. I did think the broth was pretty bland. I also got the crispy spring rolls, I think they would have tasted better at the restaurant. They got a little soggy in the container but that's expected when you order to-go. I requested utensils be added and unfortunately they didn't so I didn't have anything to eat it with. read more

Went yesterday for lunch and ordered pho and spring rolls. It was well-cooked and feels like dining in Vietnam. The food was well-flavored and like the level of spiciness too. As new residents of Baltimore, this was our first restaurant we tried it after moving a trailer of furniture on a hot scorching day. Still we had to get pho since we haven't had decent pho for awhile (shout out to Quangs and My Huong Kitchen n Minneapolis!). I got the combination pho (around $10.50-11) and my husband got the combination Bún bò Hu (priced around $14-15). The two fairly well portioned bowls came out with piping hot soup. The pros: both came with separate plates of bean sprouts herbs and vegetables, the bun bo hue soup was on point, noodles in both were perfectly cooked and abundant, bun bo hue came with some meatballs or pork balls which were delicious. Service was excellent, plenty of seating, and the place was clean. Cons: the chunks of beef stew were slightly overcooked, the combination pho had few meats and some were chunks of fat that were never carved out (literally float pieces of fat), and the soup was slightly over-salted rather than savory from the beef. The verdict: we love to support local family mom and pop shops and this was no different. We probably will come back if we need something quick and something to fulfill a desperate longing for pho; however, this probably wouldn't have been my first pick if I had to choose. We overall agreed the bun bo hue was better in flavor although slightly overpriced for pho. I probably wouldn't try the combination pho again. read more

It has reopened! After a fire in the building that closed them down temporarily, and the subsequent onslaught of Covid-19, my favorite Vietnamese restaurant is open again. This is absolutely the best pho restaurant in Baltimore. They have the best pho soup I've ever try in my whole life.

Saw some of the reviews of yelp, and thought we would give the place a try. I ordered the large pho which was priced at around $13, which was pricier than other Vietnamese restaurants for the same size. So I thought that with the higher price, it would be higher quality, but the flavor was a bit too salty. In addition, they charged an extra $3.50 to add steak to my pho along with meatballs. Other places just tend to add it without adding the surcharge. So a large pho bowl that you would normally expect to cost around $8-11, can become as pricey as $16.50 if you add in the additional surcharge for the two different meats. Lastly, my significant other ordered a Thai Tea, but they failed to bring it out the entire time we were there, but still had it on our bill. However, they did take the item out when I told them we never got our drink. They also accept only Visa and MasterCard, which is also a bit of a hassle. I think overall the food is okay, however, for the price and for the service, I think you do have better options in the city. read more

BEWARE Guys. Indochine has officially changed owner 5/1/2019. The original, chef, and staff are gone....... Yes - the lighting is brighter and the ceiling color painted white instead of black. Two full bathrooms are available now. Great!! No- the food is horrible. There is nothing on this new menu that I can compare to the old. Seriously guys I have tried it most of it. if you don't believe me come and try them yourself. But you odd to save that money to eat at some other place. It just not worth it! No- all the regular familiar faces are gone! The New Server are completely inexperienced. They did not know any of the food in that menu and just could not answer any of my questions. The Kitchen staffs are not any better, they are made of a bunch of noising inexperienced people. Lots of loud Vietnamese were being spoken in the restaurant. I could here the Lady who appeared to be the owner directing everyone else as she herself didn't know anything. She and another chef in the kitchen was arguing back and forth. The whole experience is.... how can i described this....maybe if you have never been to the floating market in Thailand or fish market in another country (somewhere where you can't understand their language) thats what is sound like at Indochine today!!! No- our food took over 40 minutes to come out. Not to mentioned, it took me 5 tries to get my order in- I first ordered tom yum, then curry chicken, then beef stew, then some stir fried noodle which are all unavailable . I then order Bun Bo Hue which tasted nothing like anything that I had somewhere else. Bun bo hue is suppose to be spicy and with lemongrass flavor. the bun bo hue I had at the New Indochine is just a beef noodle soup- but with a bunch of salt added. My other friend ordered banh mi, some grilled meat rice platter, pho, and fried rice. I am sorry to say but everything we ordered was nothing tasted near the old owner. The fried rice was ok, but the quality of the grain was just cheaper. Indochine has definitely improved in the six months since my last review. They have started offering bahn mi sandwiches since I was here last, and my husband and I both enjoyed the grilled chicken version - it was tender, nicely seasoned, and had plenty of veggies stuffed inside of the roll. I particularly enjoyed the tart, vinegary taste of the shredded carrots - it just added that "little something" to the sandwich that pushed it over the top. Really delicious! The summer rolls remain very good - the shrimp inside were actually generously sized, and the rice paper was tender without being rubbery (unlike the last time). They've stepped up their game, for certain, in this area. Pho is also still great - the broth to noodle/meat ratio was perfection. They were generous with the toppings, as well - bean sprouts and cilantro were plentiful and they'll bring you more if you ask them nicely. My husband ordered vermicelli once again, and this time I got to try it - also excellent. I'll have to tear myself away from the pho and the bahn mi long enough to eat a bowl for myself - if I can. It's just that good. Decor has improved somewhat - it's still pretty austere, but I'm not there for its surroundings. They've either purchased Brita filters or they've stopped using tap water in their drinks - because there was a marked difference from the last time we were here. Service is still great - no changes there. This is definitely my go-to pho joint. Delish! I'm all about those taro rolls next time I stop in. read more

When I do not feel like taking a trip to the Route 40 corrider for some pho, Indochine hits the spot. This particuilar visit I was not hunkering for pho, I wanted a bowl of Shrimp Bun, which is the rice vermicelli bowl. The bowl was out of this world. Ingredients were very fresh. I also enjoyed the garden rolls with shrimp and pork and the accompanying peanut sauce really brought out teh freshness of the roll. On my next visit I will partiake in a bowl of pho. Based on the other reviews from other yelpers, my expierience was the total opposite. Everything me and my roommate tried was very delicious. The Banh mi I ordered was quite expensive but was slathered in mayonnaise with cheap bread--definitely below average. The shrimp on the vermicelli was over cooked and spongy. Everything was just lackluster and below the standard of what I'm accustomed to with Vietnamese restaurants, especially at the price they're charging. The beef pho here is decent, but the sticky (coconut) rice with mango was absolutely gross! I love this dessert so it's difficult to ruin it for me, but this restaurant achieved it. The consistency of the sticky rice was decent, but it was the coconut flavoring underneath the rice, it was so nasty. The taste was artificial and the mango tasted old. One bite into the mango & it confirmed that it wasn't fresh. Besides the fact that when it arrived, it wasn't shiny from being freshly peeled/cut (the mango juice), it was dry and matte. I really like their tofu & veggies pho, you can choose between beef or veggie broth as well. I do not miss beef pho at all, their vegetarian pho is so good!! You should definitely try it. Indochine is likely the best pho place in Baltimore. Indochine is, like many Baltimore restaurants, a small joint in an old building retrofitted to serve their needs. It isn't opulent or fancy, but it doesn't exactly need to be - it's clean and pleasant, which is all that matters. The pho here is excellent - it's piping hot, well made, the broth is perfectly succulent, and the overall taste is great. The spring rolls are perfect - not chewy like some nastier spring rolls, but rather nice and crispy in the best way. Their taro rolls, which are apparently amazing, are SUPER hard to come by - they didn't have them when we went, which was a major disappointment. All in all, you can't do much better in the area. read more

We have been coming to Indochine for a couple of years now. We have been to many different pho spots in Baltimore (Pho Viet, Mekong Delta, Pho Bac, and Saigon Today) and this is still the best bowl of pho because the price is right, they provide meat combination and bowl size options, the meat is well-portioned and usually of good quality, and the broth is savory, rich, and flavorful. The pork banh mi we get from time to time is also solid. The only thing we have noticed in the past couple of years is the Asian-style calamari appetizer has gotten smaller and smaller, making it less worth the price. We keep coming back because of the reliable bowl of pho as well as the quick and friendly service. read more

By far the best vietnamese in Baltimore, bar none. The physical space is serviceable but it isn't any great shakes, and could use an upgrade, but the food, speed, people, and general authenticity are great. Sitr-fried dishes are great (garlic sauce to die for), Pho is great, and so are many other items on the menu, as well as great iced coffee. I wish there was a place like this in every major neighborhood---good Viet food is hard to find, but when you find it, it rocks. I'm a regular. Also, desperately wish this place was on GrubHub and/or Amazon Prime. I'd order all the time. read more

10/3/14 The husband was hankering for Pho and after working out at Crossfit neither of us had the energy to make out way to our typical place near Towson. Where to go? First stop was Mekong Delta but like EVERY time I have tried to eat there they were closed for something. So to my yelp app I went and discovered Indochine only blocks away, hooray! I surprisingly found parking quickly on charles st (very unusual) and hustled into the little shop asking for the table in front of the storefront window. I immediately had a Smalltimore moment when I was greeted by my ex-nail tech turned waiter since the nail salon folded. He graciously seated me at my requested table despite it not being within his section and chatted with me for some moments. After his departure, I was swiftly greeted by my actual waiter who brought waters and silverware. I flipped through the menu looking for Pho. My favorite type features BBQ beef. I didn't find that type so I decided to try the combination pho which featured different meats including tripe. I didn't even bother flipping through the rest of the menu but my husband was still trying to decide so I kept flipping AND FOUND MY FAVORITE SANDWICH IN THE WORLD. Indochine sells BAHN MI's!!!! The Bahn mi is my favorite sandwich in the world. LITERALLY. and I have yet to find an authentic representation of one in any place in Baltimore. Several non-asian places have versions of the sandwich and while still tasty, it does not compare to my favorite place Lee's Bakery in Atlanta, GA. I got the pork one. It did not rival Lee's Bakery but it was savory, the bread was flaky enough, the sandwich was equipped with the daikon, the cilantro, jalapeños, cucumbers as it should be. The thing that saddened me most was the mayo...it was just everyday normal mayo! Bahn mi mayo is supposed to be vietnamese mayo, w/ fish sauce and some other stuff that I haven't been able to totally reproduce on my own....the sandwich is a bit dry w/o it BUT I'm still excited to have even this representation in the Baltimore city limits. I'll be back. The pho was pretty standard quality w/o any problems that would deter me and in addition they have the Bahn mi here. I went to Indochine with my boyfriend because we saw the reviews on Yelp and it seemed worth checking out. I personally wanted to try the Pho hoping this would become my new spot for Pho (because as many know it isn't easy finding good Pho in Baltimore). We ate here for lunch and I ordered the small "Well done" Pho, my boyfriend ordered the chicken fried rice, and we shared an appetizer. For starters we got the steamed dumplings (cannot remember the exact name, sorry), which were pretty good. Reminded me of Dim Sum. The sauce it came with was very flavorful. For my pho entry it wasn't bad. Not the best pho I've ever had but not the worst. The Pho had flavor but it wasn't unique and not very memorable. I personally don't see myself ordering it again. I tasted my boyfriend's chicken fried rice and it was pretty good; the portion size was great, but again, not very memorable. Overall, I give this restaurant 3 stars because the service was good, the food was ok, portions were decent and the atmosphere was ok. read more

Recently opened, and I took advantage of the opportunity to visit. Garden Rolls and Brisket Pho are two dishes I would recommend. It was good, though a little pricey. Delicious home cooked pho! Taste like what my mom would make at home! I had the lean beef pho (p3 I think), noodles to meat to broth portion size was just right for the smaller bowl. Ask them to boil your bean spouts, taste better. Re-use the condiments dish to squirt some hoisin and chili sauce together to use as a dipping sauce for your meat. You don't need to add this to your soup bowl! Many times I see people make that mistake and it completely masks the underlying flavor of the broth! The pork banh mi is also very good. This was my second time having Pho. The first time was gross, but from Indochine, it was delicious. I had the veggie and tofu pho - the broccoli, carrots, celery, onion were cooked wonderfully. Still had a crisp and were fresh (I hate soggy veggies). The side basil, sprouts, jalapenos and lime were also fresh. The small bowl was still enough to provide me with leftovers. Also, the waiter was super friendly. He greeted me as soon as I entered, promptly sat me and was courteous the entire time. Re-filled my water glass as needed. Engaged me to ask about my book, but not in an overbearing "please leave me alone, I just want to eat and read in peace" way. My boyfriend and I walked by here several time, and never went in, but it was great pho and great service, so I will come back with him next time - or not, maybe I'll keep this my secret lunch spot. A tad divey, but charming nonetheless. I had a really nice dinner here on my last night in Baltimore and wish I had the opportunity to try more of the menu. Menu is mostly Vietnamese and it appeared most of the diners were eating pho. Unlike my usual self, i did not get pho opting instead for a stir fry chicken dish called the indochine stir fry special. It was very flavorful and packed a good amount of heat from the chilis. Good choice, though I would've enjoyed more veggies in there, particularly string beans. They have a few Indonesian dishes, and I would have tried the Indo fried rice had I noticed it before i ordered. Service was pretty good, though with just two servers who also doubled to take takeout orders, they were stretched pretty thin. read more

(6/6/2014) Went back, apparently it's their Grand Opening! Special prices for a limited time, and makes this place definitely worth checking out: $5 small phos, $4 apps. The broth was much improved, clear and clean flavors (lost the bloody trimmings taste), less salty, more warming spice (star anise), had more tripe bits (yay, for me!). The Spring Rolls were golden and crispy, well-seasoned, something unusually mushy (not necessarily bad, maybe taro?). Fried Dumplings were less potsticker, more empanada filled with ground pork and herbs, substantial portion, filling. The broth is delicious, and they do not skimp out on the meat, which is important. Also, they give you a healthy side of bean sprouts and the like. I have also had the sandwiches, or Banh Mi in the menu, and viet iced coffee, these are also well done. The grilled chicken one was tasty and so was the coffee. However, for the iced coffee they could have added slightly less condensed milk and take out a couple ice cubes, but it was very strong which made me happy. The service received was quick and no hassle, but not super bubbley. I personally don't care about this, but maybe someone else does. The prices of the food are quite reasonable for the quality that you get. The most negative part of this place is the atmosphere. I would not want to eat in during super hot days. They have fans and like two window units but no AC. I have been here during a hot day and it is no good. If they added AC I would easily change my rating. Also, the dining room is a little dark. They can lighten up the place and that would be better. Overall, I would come back and recommend this to any fans of pho. read more
