Before the pandemic, I was routinely making the hour roundtrip downtown once or twice per week just for some pho and Thai tea! I am so impressed by the kitchen's ability to veganize almost any entree on the menu - I usually stick to vegan pho, but I've been able to get pad thai, drunken noodles, and Thai teas and coffees without animal ingredients! In addition to the food and atmosphere, Indochine's service is top of the line! Gabriel has served me regularly, and provides a truly impecible dining experience. Most recently, I was served by Matty, who was friendly, organized, and knowledgable! The only downside to my most recent experience was that the restaurant was far too warm - it seemed as though the AC had broken. read more

The food here was pretty terrible. We ended up taking 2 bites each and trashing the pad thai and laab gai. Pad thai was really bland and the laab had moist breading in it. The texture was terrible. The satay wasn't bad, a little dry but edible. The mango sticky rice was good, 6-7/10. read more

Such a cool space! The ambiance is so nice. We had a group of 7 on a Friday night and waited for about 20 minutes and then got a corner booth that was pretty tight for all of us to sit in. So it's not a great place for a group, if you haven't made a reservation. With that said, we all really liked our food. I got the panang curry and Thai tea and both were so good. I asked if they had chilis and our server brought a condiment caddy with dry chili flakes and chili oil. The chili oil was tasty, but I was surprised to see when the bill came that chilis cost $1.50 extra. I've never seen a charge for this before and it seemed really absurd. read more

I ordered the "Sea of Indochine" and added extra scallop, shrimp and mussels. Dish came and was the same portion as the regular portion of this order. My drunken noodles with shrimp and scallops ($16) was pleasant, but I'd keep on searching for an entree here that I truly like. It was a large serving, though I was just able to finish it (though I shouldn't have). I may try shrimp fried rice next time (some Yelpers recommend it, and regular customer B has chicken fried rice as his standard, with a modified assortment of vegetables). The chocolate lava cake for dessert ($8) was quite good and I might repeat it. It's a bit louder than I'd like. They didn't handle a bottle of wine I brought in well. They put it on the table with nothing to chill it. Before that, when I arrived, I asked the hostess to put the wine on ice. She moved to seat me instead, so I reiterated that I wanted the wine put on ice. She seemed miffed. Update: I liked my fried rice. I got shrimp, subtracted tomatoes, and added broccoli and carrots. It would probably be my go-to dish here in the future (or the cheaper chicken version, $14). My bill showed broccoli as a substitution and carrots as a ¢50 addition, so I might just add one next time. The dish was too large, so I'd probably share it or take some home next time. The chocolate lava cake this time seemed just pleasant or so, and I don't know if I'd repeat it. It's still a bit loud. read more

I've been here several times because I work Downtown. It's a great place for lunch but I prefer not to go for dinner. I love their Pad Thai but the last couple of times I've ordered the drunken noodles with chicken. It's delicious and I love spicy food so I always get a spice level of 6. It's a lot of heat with great flavor. This particular day, we also ordered the streamed dumplings. You get 6 per order. They come steaming with sauce on the side. Overall, great lunch spot! Gabriel was an excellent server. We came here on a Saturday night and enjoyed every minute of our experience. The appetizer we order was hot and spicy just like we wanted. We order the beef laab level 4 heat. The meat was juicy and the lettuce was crisp. We then ordered the pahn nang curry level 4 and the shrimp was not over cooked and the sauce was delicious. I absolutely loved the ambiance of this place. It's just the swankiest little Thai restaurant you'll ever want to eat in. I love the entrance to the restaurant, the exposed brick inside of the restaurant, and all of the Buddhist inspired art showcased through out the space. The food was pretty good! For starters we got the following: Crab Rangoons: I ordered these and while the curried cream cheese added great flavor , I didn't taste a bit of crab. I even opened one of them up on a mad search for crab and was disappointed when I found none. Crispy Rolls: These were rolls stuffed with ground pork, mushrooms, mung bean noodles, onion, cabbage, and carrots, fried to a perfect crisp, and were the BOMB DIGGITY!!! Steamed Dumpling: I didn't taste these but my friend said they were pretty good. For my main dish, I had the Shrimp and Chicken Pad Thai. It was my first time trying Pad Thai and though I'm not the biggest fan of peanut, the peanut undertones were subtle and it had a tolerable amount of spice, making for a pretty tasty dish! I love how you can determine the level of spice you want using a scale from 1F-6F with 6 being the hottest! I ordered this dish at a 3F and it had the right amount of "kick" for me. The Mee Krob came with bok choy, chicken, veggies, served over fried crispy rice noodles. the broth in this dish was amazing! This beef fried rice was good but there was nothing extraordinary about it, Overall, my experience at Indochine was good! Although I had the hiccup with my rangoons appetizers, everything else made up for it. The space was inviting, the service was good, and the food was tasty! Finally made it in to Indochine. Had a great time with some fabulous people and some wonderful food. I was there during Eat Up Downtown week and after perusing the menu decided to opt in for the prixe-fixe menu. Especially since I was allowed to choose from anything on their regular menu (minus a couple of specialty items. For my first course, I went the liquid route and had the 1901 Red Ale from Bold City. Delicious and full of flavor. Though I know it's not something they made themselves, I was glad to know they offered it. For my second course, I opted for the Fried Tofu appetizer. The silken tofu was fried to a golden brown and served with a peanut sauce. The tofu was crisp on the outside and soft and warm on the outside. Much better as a shared appetizer IMHO. It just gets to be a little much after four or five pieces. For my main entree I ordered the Drunken Noodle with Tofu. I upped it one level to the 3F from the menu description. While I could have gone higher, the spice was just enough for this go around. The chunks of tofu were plentiful, the noodles had just the right amount of sauce on them. The mixed veggies offered a nice crunch. Next time I have something to do downtown, Indochine has made it to the list of the possibilities for dinner options. read more

This restaurant is above the Burrito Gallery on E. Adams St. The atmosphere is cozy and well decorated. The specialty drinks are outstanding! The cucumber tini was very refreshing! We also tried a ginger beer drink. It was a bit sweet but definitely had lots of flavor! I was with a group and we ordered several appetizers to start the meal. The calamari was a bit bland and the sauce they served with it was just a sweet red sauce. The crab Rangoons were decent but didn't have a enough curry flavor for our tastes. We ordered the Tom-Kha Gai soup extra spicy (Thai hot) and it came out way too salty. They must have used peppers that had been soaked in fish sauce which is a traditional Thai condiment but it made the soup way too salty! The fresh spring rolls were very tasty though. Service on this night was pretty spotty as we had to flag our waitress down for everything including the check. The waitress even spilled food on one of our guests. The waitress "refreshed" her wine glass as sauce spilled into it as well. She did not offer to comp her meal or anything else even though she had spilled sauce on our guest's dress. To put it bluntly our waitress was not having a good night. Others around us seem to be getting prompt service without asking for everything so I would chalk that up to a problem with our particular server. read more

After walking around downtown scoping out other 4 star restaurants and not liking what we saw, we went up the beautiful wrought iron staircase with exposed brick to Indochine. We were assured that the service would be fast enough to get us in and out in an hour and once we sat down we didn't want to leave! The food was very tasty and could be customized to your spice level and your protein choice. The waitress forgot to give us our edamame and when she realized she gave them to us in the house. Eating here makes me feel like I am not in Jax. The food here is just plain amazing. The place looks beautiful. The view of the trees and green tile of the old library looks beautiful. Decided to try this place to fix a Thai craving I've been having. Ordered the calamari for an appetizer and the Drunken Noodles with shrimp (4F for spiciness) as a main course. While I was unimpressed by the calamari and it was flavorless even though fried perfectly, the drunken noodles had just the right blend of seasoning and spice to make me content. The portion was also pretty good for the price ($15). My one complaint would be that the tails were left on the shrimp, and you aren't given a knife to cut them off...so here I sit, on a date, picking shrimp tails out of my mouth with my fingers! Good thing I don't plan on dating him again... The service was also prompt and attentive, waiting less than 10min for fresh, hot food. The location of the restaurant is a little strange (it's upstairs over the Burrito Gallery) though it is well signed with an elevator and staircase option. The ambiance was very nice as the sun began to set and the lighted lanterns were turned on outside of the building. Our window seat overlooking a slowing Downtown Jacksonville street was the perfect place for conversation to flow. I also loved the exposed brick walls, simple decor, and select few open windows to let the spring breeze flow through. The place has a tin of character. Overall, I'd definitely visit Indochine again, maybe order my food with chicken instead of shrimp. read more

What an amazingly great place! I had ultra low expectations about this place being above the same Burrito Gallery that I rated as 2 Stars. Guilt by association, eh? Anyways, we made our way up the stairs and were seated quickly by a very friendly hostess. Our orders were taken quickly and our drinks came post haste. Before we knew it, our food was delivered. Wow that was fast! I was the only brave soul that ordered the Pad Thai with a 6F heat; the hottest offered. I always order the hottest possible on my first visit to see if the business is full of sh*t or honest with their heat scale. I'll admit I wouldn't order the Pad Thai in 6F next time as I cried against my will but OMG did I receive a ton of food that tasted epic! Besides the heat, the taste was great! Indochine is a great little Thai restaurant with a sushi menu as well. Excellent cocktails, and Happy Hours weekdays 2-5 PM. Try any of a half dozen soups, and any dish with your choice of beef, chicken, shrimp, tofu or other options. This is way better than the Indochine that used to be in San Marco and closed. Several Thai & other Asian beers as well as domestics, and a nice selection of both wines and sake. Close enough to the Landing and downtown to catch a bite before or after a show or event. Reservations are recommended, especially on the weekend or Friday night. Nicely furnished with artwork from Thailand, especially featuring Buddha themes. My spicy food lovers, their F6 (Thai hot) on the clear chicken soup with bean thread noodles & bean sprouts is the hottest food I've ever had served to me in Jacksonville. Came here Wednesday evening with my friend after a recommendation of this place. We waltzed in the door at around 856 and it was our surprise that they were actually closing at 9 PM. The yelp a business page says 10 PM so I hope that can be changed. Luckily they still let us in and seated us. Since the kitchen doesn't close until 9:15 PM. The restaurant was a good size and have comfortable booth seating. Our waiter was very kind and came right away and asked when you would like. My friend ordered the Indochine roll and I ordered the drunken noodles with extra vegetables. She absolutely loved her sushi roll. And it looked amazing. It is honestly what I would've ordered had I not been allergic to shellfish. So I ordered the drunken noodles instead. Overall they were pretty good, I won't order them again or I wouldn't recommend them per se but I'm glad I try them. Directly above a burrito place, Indochine was a sufficient Thai meal. I had spring rolls and drunken noodles, and I cannot complain about either. Neither dish left me wowed, but both were tasty and served by a nice waiter. Downtown Jacksonville to me didn't seem to have a large selection of restaurants, so if I was stuck down here again, I would eat at Indochine, however, I do not believe I would drive downtown specifically for this meal. If I could give a zero star I would. I used to love going here. Food was always amazing. But will not return again due to the horrible service. Was there today for an hour and never received food. My group and I were literally the third table to get there before the lunch rush and after an hour we were told there was still 6 orders ahead of us. When the server finally brought our drinks, he dropped one of the drinks on the table and split it everywhere. I understand everyone makes mistakes, however, when you drop an entire drink on a table you can at least clean it up quickly and apologize. This server mumbled his apology so we could barely hear him and took almost 10 mins to clean it up. When we asked him where our order was [after an hour] and if we could get it to go, he took it upon himself to cancel our order and then proceed to yell at us for his errors. When we first walked in the restaurant we was greeted and seated by a nice woman and the ambiance was nice. Once we sat down a male waiter brought us water and the menus and asked us did we know what we wanted to drink. My daughter asked where on the menu was the drink and he pointed and walked away. We sat there for about 10-15 mins waiting for him to come back and take our order but he never did. When my daughter finally was able to get his attention he stated" you're not gonna f***ing tip me anyway." I was so applaud. Then when he walked by again he stated"oh yea I'm the owner by the way". I proceeded to wave the woman that seat is and she sent another young lady over. I asked the young lady was he really the owner and she stated no he is one of the managers. My daughter was so upset because she really wanted to eat there but because of the service from the gentleman who was supposed to be our waiter was horrible she wanted to leave. I am so upset at the way he spoke to us that I hope it never happens to anyone else. I wish i could have experienced the food because i heard good things about it but the experience has was so unacceptable. read more
