I travel quite a bit, and this is hands down one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever been to. When my daughter and I first moved to Jacksonville in 2016, we searched everywhere for great Chinese food and we found Peony. Even though I no longer live in Jacksonville, this is still my go to spot when I'm in town, and it remains a family favorite. The food is always fresh and flavorful , and the staff is very friendly. Peony is a must try for anyone looking for authentic, consistently delicious Chinese food.

Good spot, lots of parking located in multi shops and restaurant plaza. Great service and some tasty food. Fried rice, pan fried noodles, chicken wraps.

1st time dining in at Peony, everyone was pleasant and polite. Not too busy around 4:30pm on a Saturday. Ordered orange chicken, Mongolian beef, and chicken lo mein with chicken egg roll as an appetizer. Everything was presented well, and had a yummy taste. Little bit on the pricey compared to our normal go-to neighborhood Chinese restaurant, but would definitely be back again to try more of the menu!

Enjoy this family style sit down Chinese restaurant in Jacksonville.. one of the few left! Food is excellent, service good but having dinner with friends.. the best! Rice and flat noodles, order of happy family, kung pao and sesame chicken , green beans and lots of rice ruled the night.

We were at JAX Oriental Market and feeling hungry. So we decided to try this place since we always wanted to! We love Chinese cuisine too! We walked in and were greeted and seated immediately. Lots of smiles and the ambiance was cozy and warm. It was like walking into someone's home (a good thing!). We got the following: Appetizer: Krab Rangoon': 8/10 - pretty tasty krab rangoon and it was fried well! There was a lot of filling and it came with chili sauce on the side. Wasn't the best but it was good nonetheless. Entrees: Eggplant and chicken with garlic sauce: 9/10 -my husband got this and I could not stop taking bites off his plate. It comes in big portions with the entrée and rice separately. We had no idea the portion size was going to be that big! The sauce was garlicky, savory, and coated each chicken and eggplant beautifully. Each bite was filled with so much flavor and tip! Add some chili oil (ask your waiter/waitress for some) for some kick! I loved how the chili oil coated the rice, along with that delicious sauce! We couldn't stop eating as it was super delicious! Honey walnut shrimp: 7/10 - this was my entrée and while the shrimp was huge, there was not enough walnuts. What makes this dish is the caramelized walnuts and we wished there were more! The walnuts were huge but lack in quantity. The batter and fry on the shrimp was light, crispy, and the creamy mayo sauce was divine! However, we didn't get much shrimp either. Overall, a good place to get some Chinese food but it's not the best. it's on the pricier side too. We wouldn't go out of our way to come here to be honest but if we're in the area, we might stop by again.

I love this place so much. The food never misses. It's delicious and you get your moneys worth! The server is so sweet and she's great at it. The ambiance could be steady or casual. It's really up to you. It's a super cute place. I am so glad I was introduced to it.

I have been to Peony every Christmas Eve for 6 years now to get the same dish: Orange beef! The beef is crispy and the sauce is perfect and not too sweet. You just can't get it this way from takeout. Service is always friendly. Parking is easy as it is in a strip mall. I hope to go for many years to come!

This casual dining restaurant has plenty of seating. Staff were friendly and the place was clean. The food was delicious! I will definitely return!

Overall we had a good dining experience. The service was great and the food was pretty good. We started with crab rangoon and we laughed when they arrived at the table, because they were TINY. My dinner date liked them, but I thought they had too much onion (and I love onion!). We did agree that everything else was good - hot tea, egg drop soup, veggie eggrolls, and kung pao chicken. There aren't that many sit-down Chinese restaurants in the area, so Peony Asian Bistro shot to the top of our list.

We've been coming here for years.. always have a good experience. The service and food quality are consistent and well executed. The atmosphere is no frills, but in my opinion adds to the experience. If you come on a Sunday, you'll find large families eating and laughing - it's a nice, buzzy vibe. My favorite dish is the Szechwan beef and my husband always gets the walnut shrimp. We prefer them both with steamed rice but their fried rice is pretty good. We've had other things but always come back to our staples.

Fried rice that comes at no charge on the side - sticky and that's so good

We walked in on a Sunday around 1pm and were sat kind of quick. There are no signs so we weren't sure if we should sit or wait. We stood there for about a minute u til someone just pointed to a table. I ordered my favorite of moo goo gia pan and my husband got Mongolian beef. The fried rice that they serve for free with the food isn't really fried rice. It was just white rice with almost like a little bit of sauce on top. But there was nothing else in it. We ordered a meal of fried rice that was recommended that had shrimp and pork and chicken, which was much better The moo guy pan was very good and my husband's Mongolian steak could've had a little more beef in it It was good. we'll probably go back

Wonderful dining experience as always. Francesa and the crew does a good job with the meals. The egg soup is a treat as always. The General Tao chicken is cooked right and pepper as the right level. The ambience is casual and open.

Can you order Peking duck during any random visit, or do they only offer it on specific days/events?

Yes you can order it on any visit. Last time I was there ppl were ordering them. I was planning ordering Peking duck myself but the price has went up and didn't justify for me to order the dish.

Is this restaurant open on Christmas Day? Thanks!

Yes, and They will be open New Year's Day

    Is this place pet friendly?

No. Smaller indoor dining room and no outside seating.

They have many options to choose from in terms of different meats, greens, sushi, desserts, noodles, and more. How it works is you choose the soup of choice to cook the things on and then you go up and fill your place with what you want to cook. You can add things to the soup or on the hot pot to cook. They also have sushi and dumplings already made to eat. I've tried the traditional soup and the tom yum I believe it's called. I like the tom yum better because it has more flavor. You are cooking your own stuff so make sure it's done lol! Both servers both times were nice and attentive in changing out the stove you cook on and taking your dirty plates. Cool experience for sure!

We decided upon this place based on reviews, including from all our oldest grandchild, who said that he had been taken here and everyone enjoyed it. we knew it had previously been a Japanese/Asian grill for many years, but now it is a Korean style barbecue and hot pot.m, so we stopped in. first be aware that this is not a cheap meal, it was $37 per adult. that said, you get access to a variety of proteins and options. I will also say that my experience was quite a bit different than that of my wife. to start, you get one type of flavored broth for your hot pot in which to cook proteins or vegetables. The table also comes with a built-in grill if you choose to Cook that way. My wife selected the mushroom broth base and I chose the pork broth base. I must say, my wife added her own spices/sauces and enjoyed her broth so much that she shared with me and it greatly enhanced my experience. We enjoyed it so much so that we took the remainder home - there was a by weight up charge for taking this or anything else home. initially I felt that was a little expensive ($5) for taking home What amounted to 2 cups of broth, but we made Ramen out of the next day and it was the best Ramen I've had in a long time, so kudos to my wife for having seasoned it so well. my pork broth was not very flavorful, but I was being lazy and did not add any sauces to it, so I was disappointed, but frankly that is probably on me. In the middle of the restaurant is a very clean and well stocked protein buffet that has all types of seafood, pork, chicken, and beef offerings. I selected many of these, and went directly to the grill instead of cooking some of them in the hot pot. i ended up over cooking several of them before adding them into my hot pot, and they weren't good, but once again my disappointment is in part due to my impatience or inattentiveness. my wife enjoyed her selections very much because she didn't overcook her proteins. my favorite thing was the beef Bulgogi and Korean short ribs, which I grilled (or my wife did) and these were delicious, marinated in an excellent sauce and I frankly could've and should've probably just eaten several plates of this. they had a sushi/dessert bar with typical fare; my wife did not partake in any of this. I tried several of the sushi rolls and they were OK -- frankly this is probably not what you would gravitate to if you're going to a hot pot/Korean barbecue restaurant. their desert offerings were fine: I enjoyed the tiramisu and the Asian style donuts, which were very doughy, but I love them. My wife thought they were just meh. they were alcoholic options, but we were already going to be at $90 with tip and take home broth so we just had waters. I apologize for forgetting the servers name, but his service was excellent, due to attentiveness, explanation of the options, and making sure our drinks were consistently refilled. The ambience was nice, modern, clean. so my take away is that this would be closer to a 3.5 star review versus a four, as this was expensive and everything that I tried other than the grilled Bulgogi and what my wife shared that she had added to her broth) was just OK. However, my wife enjoyed the meal so much, that alone is worth it. Also, I should attribute some of the "disappointment" to my own laziness or overcooking of the proteins on the grill. I would go back for another special occasion, but at the price point, it would not be a weekly choice.

He mentioned wait times for tables, so I chose a Tuesday evening to try to avoid the crowds and it worked as I was immediately sat upon arriving. There are QR Menus on the table and my server directed me to view there. I spotted the Tokyo and was intrigued by the Ajitama Brûlée (signature torched seasoned soft boiled egg). What I Ordered: - Tokyo: For $16.95, I thought this was reasonably priced and excited to try as reading reviews raved about the umami flavor of their ramen. Without exaggeration, this was a life-changing ramen. The best ramen that I've had in my life!! The torched egg was genius and added a beautiful texture to the rich, and flavorful broth. The fried chicken thigh was a delicious protein and cooked so well. Honestly, every ingredient was crafted well and combined to make such a beautiful bowl. - Lychee Martini: What better way to toast to life, then with a martini! The popping bubbles were not my thing, but the flavor of the martini was delicious. I can see why many suggest trying it. Visiting my son & DIL this past weekend, both of my son's dining suggestions were wing-focused. But my vegetarian DIL (she eats some seafood) seemed to be more interested in Bonchon than the other potential spot, so I took her side to make our choice. I can usually find something to eat on any menu, in spite of my immature palette, and Bonchon was no exception. In fact, there are several other things I want to try now! We started with the Korean Cucumber Salad & Bao Buns with Pork Belly. No one that knows me will be surprised that the cucumber salad was much too hot for me. But here is something unexpected... I loved the cole slaw on the Bao Bun, and the sauces were complementary enough that the spice level was fine for me. I would definitely order the Bao Buns again, and try the other meats. For my meal, I ordered the Bibimbap with Bulgogi, and really enjoyed it. Their marinated beef was very tasty, and of course I love an egg on just about anything. Another (non)shock, I did not care for the Bibimbap Sauce because it was rather hot; I appreciated that it was served on the side. Hubs said the mushrooms & caramelized onions were very good, but I didn't eat either. Then I tried a Classic Crunch drumstick, and fell in love! Yes, I bit into it like y'all do, and ate the skin, too. What a delicious piece of chicken! I didn't even need a dipping sauce (& I can't remember what the boys chose anyway). My son insisted that I'd enjoy a Korean BBQ wing also, and I'm sure I would, but I was already getting full. Next time! Also for my next visit, my DIL got a Mopo Corndog as her appetizer (though she also ate a lot of the cucumber salad), and it looked amazing! The name was confusing (to me), but there is no hot dog inside, so I want to try one. Fried mozzarella & potato cubes! They have two versions, so of course I want to try both; although I'm rather skeptical about the sugar-cinnamon coating, I'm anticipating an unexpectedly delicious bite. Service was fantastic, although they weren't very busy yet on this Saturday evening. Our server was very attentive & friendly, and none of us waited for a new drink or refill. My son & DIL evidently visit often, so I'm sure we'll return. I wish we had a Bonchon location closer to us!
