Stopped by this restaurant on our way down to Orlando. Hole in the wall spot right off the highway. We ordered papaya salad and larb as appetizers. I wouldn't recommend either. The papaya salad lacked strong flavor. Needed more lime and less peanuts (7/10). The larb used cut up pieces of chicken instead of ground chicken, but the flavor was ok. (7/10). Shrimp pad Thai was ok. A little on the wet side, but the flavor was good. (8/10). The real highlight was the roasted duck pineapple curry. I could have eaten another portion. Super flavorful. Before we begin, I want to let everyone know that Thai 9 is now under new management and is the second location of Bangkok Thai Cuisine. This review is for the previous owners and their restaurant. My family ordered from this place nearly every other week for the past two years. This was my favorite Thai restaurant. I adored their Tom Kha (so did my Mom), and we loved their curries. My brother constantly got their dumplings, rolls, and fried rice. While those were our go-to, we tried just about every on the old menu over the years. Not everything was perfect, but most of it kept us coming back week after week. (One time, we had broccoli in our Tom Kha, and it still tasted good! I'll say it here too, it's the best Tom Kha I've had in Jacksonville.) Service was always great and welcoming. We'd frequently order a lot of food, and would be helped back to our car. I ate inside with my Grandfather once or twice, which was also a pleasant experience. We were so surprised the other week when we tried to place an order, and it didn't go through! My whole family is going to miss you all. Personally, you were my favorite place to get takeout. I loved your food, and I wish we could've said goodbye. My first time at this restaurant after reading the reviews. I tried the previous owner who was a flop. I have a standard that I compare all my Thai restaurants to as guideline on flavor, presentation, quality, and the amount of food you get for your money. I really wanted this place to come on top being really close to my house. To start the host was so nice and inviting. We started out with a Crispy Roll appetizer and she even threw in some crab Rangoons for free when she asked us if we were allergic to crab. The Crispy Rolls are good but the Crab Rangoons had nothing but cream cheese inside which made it a little bland. At least you have sweet chili sauce to dip it in. My wife ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and I got the Shrimp Volcano after reading the reviews. The presentation coming out looked fantastic on both. The Shrimp Volcano is steaming hot on a hot plate and they pour the sweet chili sauce on top which steams up. My plate also comes with Jasmine rice on the side. The vegetables underneath the fried Shrimp are basically steamed with the sauce, so after a couple of bites my shrimp starts to get soggy due to the steam and chili sauce. Basically a hot mess. The rice and shrimp were cooked perfectly, it was just okay nothing to want to say I'm going come back for that! The veggies underneath are steamed with the chili sauce over them. They needed seasoning like salt, just bland to me. My Wife's Chicken Pad Thai was too sweet, we eat Pad Thai everywhere so we know it's going to be sweet, but this is overly sweet and the peanuts aren't salty at all, just like the dish itself. The noodles are missing some seasoning, like it needed salt. It was missing something. All I can tell you is our standard for comparison is the Green Papaya at River City. They have the best Pad Thai I ever tasted. They have a huge following here so I hope they do well but it's not for us. Green Papaya for me! read more

seriously starts. awful service. i ordered togo via uber eats 30 mins ahead. I get to the store to pick it up and they hadn't even checked the order machine or even START the order until i got there. no one apologized either. the woman was super rude about the wait time also. The restaurant was empty and barely anyone else waiting for food or togo. Awful experience and i will never go back based off this professionalism. An absolute gem of a place. Came here for lunch with a group of fellow coasties and we were greeted with the warmest welcome. Our waitress was really attentive and quick to make sure we had everything we needed. Everything on the menu looked delicious so of course it was difficult to decide. I eventually settled on the crispy duck with panang curry and it did not disappoint. The sauce was a buttery peanut flavor with a hint of sweetness and just a tiny bit of spice at the end. The duck looked overcooked at first but was actually extremely tender. Our waitress brought out crispy egg rolls on the house and our food took only about 5 minutes to come out. Talk about fast! All the plates were very full so you will not leave here hungry lol. And to top it off- we all enjoyed fresh, sweet slices of mango. read more

We enjoy this little Thai restaurant. The pad Thai was very sweet but they may be from the southern part of Thailand where use more palm sugar and less tamarind. I added more lime and a little ponzu to counter the sweetness since I prefer a more savory pad Thai. We also ordered the pineapple curry which was surprisingly delicious! Their Tom Yum was very good, as well. I would skip their donuts they tasted like premade buttered biscuit dough tossed in the fryer. Since we got take-out, we can't speak to the atmosphere or service. It was super easy to order online, pay with credit card, and pick up. The food was ready in the exact time they said it would be. Food was well packaged, kept heat, no leakage. The red curry and rice was delicious. Great portion size, had just the right amount of heat and sauciness. The pineapple fried rice could have had a little more pineapple! It tasted rather heavily curry powdered, which was a bit disappointing. It was still tasty though! I work nearby and order lunch for pickup often. I don't have a long enough break to dine inside, but every time I come to pickup, the same woman is working. She is extremely friendly and makes the experience even better. I usually order the massaman curry with tofu and ask for it extra spicy, and they do not disappoint. During lunch all the meals come with a spring roll. If you visit, make sure to buy one of the crunchy lotus shaped snacks at the front. It is so good with honey! read more

Decided to give this place a try based on the proximity and great reviews. Unfortunately, the food was a let down. The lunch portions seem like a decent deal (~$10) but they just aren't that great. We got the green curry, Penang curry, pad thai, and fried duck with red chili sauce. The pad thai was the biggest let down. It was too sweet and lacked a lot of flavor. The curries were very watery and were wrapped in a foil pouch inside a styrofoam Box. The duck was ok, but that alone wouldn't merit a return visit. I don't write yelp reviews anymore, but I had to write one for this location. It is a very tiny, hole in the wall Thai spot. No one was in when we came around 7:30 on a Tuesday night. It looked like it was going to be sketchy, but looks are deceiving. While we were there, 2 other families came in, and I can see why now. My mom is from Thailand and i was in town for the weekend and sadly, didn't get to have any home cooked Thai food. My family are very picky with our Thai food since our mom cooks amazing Thai food. This place, Did not dissappoint. We ordered the curry puffs, which were already great, but the server/owner brought us spring rolls too on the house and they were hot, crispy, and delicious! We ordered the Pad Bah Mee, Basil Thai Fried Rice and the sizzling beef all at a level 4 Thai hot. Every plate was amazing! The sizzling beef had the best peanut sauce I've had at a Thai restaurant. I cannot say enough how good each dish was. My nephew is a picky eater and he loved all of them. It was soo much food that we had to take it all to go. We also ordered the sticky rice and mango and they makes it the way my mom makes it. Sweet and salty with EXTRA coconut milk. The best combination for sticky rice and mango! The owner/server is the sweetest lady ever. She was super friendly and just like any Thai lady, she kept making sure we were happy and fed. Best little Thai spot in North Jax. Walking in here is like walking into your favorite aunt's living room. The sweet owner is very welcoming and friendly. I've been here 4 times so far and I will be coming back more. This is the most authentic place in Jacksonville for Thai Food. Hot tea is served in a traditional pot and delicious. The soup is large enough for two to share and is your quick fix for a sore throat. The fresh rolls certainly are full of fresh ingredients. I'm so glad to have discovered this place because as much as I like Green Papaya, it just doesn't seem so authentic especially since the owner and the cooks/servers are Chinese and not Thai. Service is super friendly and we liked everything we ordered (except I didn't like the curry puffs as much as my husband did) One interesting thing, my dogs don't like eating veggies so much but I gave them my leftover veggies and to my surprise, all 4 of them ate it up! That just shows you that even the dogs love their cooking! If you're looking for traditional Thai food (almost up to par with the original Pattaya Thai Atlantic Blvd circa 1990's, our benchmark for the best Thai food), I think you'd like this mom and pop restaurant. There is no way to get ahold of anyone. I tried calling multiple times. The website should not let you order if they are closed. The red curry doesn't taste like red curry at all(not even red in color) more of a yellow curry color, but the spice level is there and I only got a 2.
