When it carne time to do the work his crew was amazing. They did everything he said they would do, and they were very friendly and knowledgeable, too. They cleared the water damaged and replaced the drywall so well it doesn't even look like we ever had an incident. The rate was very reasonable, too. We did have to make a deposit first, and then pay final payment when the work was complete which I expected and is fair. Overall we are VERY pleased and will use him and his services again. I made the mistake of going with this company, recommended by my plumber so I thought they would be good, instead of using someone contracted with my insurance. Initially I was pleased, as the owner of the company took time out of his weekend to help me file the insurance claim over the phone. However, from that point, I was mostly dissatisfied with this company's work and business practices. First, their workers attempted to remove the desk in my mom's bedroom that is literally built into the wall because they claimed they needed to put fans behind it. While I understand that they detected moisture around the desk, I was not happy with the fact that their workers started removing all of the items from the desk and trying to detach it without discussing with me first. I had to tell the owner on the phone to leave the desk alone. Second, they ended up putting too many fans and tripping my circuit breakers several times. A minor complaint, but seems they should have known that beforehand. Finally, and most egregiously, they kept (and still have not returned) my $1k deposit even after getting paid by my insurance company. Every other contractor I've dealt with has rolled the deposit into the final bill, and since the final bill was paid by insurance, I would have expected One of a Kind to return my deposit but they never did, even after I sent multiple emails requesting it back. Overall, while One of a Kind is initially responsive and helpful, their actual work is subpar, and their billing practices are shady in my opinion. If you have a leak situation like the one I did, I would just go through your insurance. Wish I had done that instead of being out $1k for something that should have been entirely covered by insurance.

A few days after we had fully paid them up for finishing their work, they called back to schedule an additional cleanup prior to testing. I think that one example shows how they really make customer service a priority, even when they might not have a financial stake any longer. Their prices on top of that were very reasonable and they had correctly assessed the cause of the water damage even prior to removing the walls which speaks to their experience on handling water damage issues. I liked how they were able to offer both demolition and reconstruction services. They were also very helpful in coordinating with our tenant instead of having us act as intermediaries. Finally they kept to their estimated timetable and to their quote (except for replacing a shower door which understandably would be an additional cost). Now you usually don't wish for more water damage to occur, but if it did we would definitely be interested in going back to MACS.
