A portrait tattoo is a difficult one to accomplish and requires a certain level of skill to execute -correctly. This is clearly a skill he does not have and to charge as if you do is a straight up fucking scam. I wouldn't be as upset if it wasn't a portrait of my beautiful daughter - which clearly doesn't show here at all! The level of skill ( lines, shading ) and just clear execution is straight up amateur. Reference to the photo's below, you can clearly see eyes & nose are mis-portioned . Shading in all areas are terrible! Lips and teeth look nothing like the photo. Even the work on the ears and bathing suit are half-assed. There is no amount of swelling that can make this look as bad as it does. He needs to stick to tattooing butterflies or answering phones. This tattoo looks NOTHING like all his IG portraits. Very disappointed with the result of my lettering tattoo done here. As pictured I have hypertrophic scarring from the tattoo due to the artist, Steve Lopez, being heavy handed with the tattoo gun. The ink is really dark and contrasts my sleeve. I put in a $500 deposit with the shop with Frank a year prior that they wouldn't refund so I went to Steve to use the money only to leave me with a Wonky tattoo that I'm now going through laser tattoo removal to remove. Also my ex girlfriend accidentally slightly moved and he messed up the line work in the "g" in grateful. She went first so I should've known not to get tattooed by him. read more

I got a 4" by 4" cat tattoo here that ended up costing me way too much money. I won't disclose how much I spent because I feel stupid whenever I do. Let's just say, whenever I have told people how much it was, they don't believe I got ripped off so hard. ESPECIALLY for the amount of mistakes made on it. I was tattooed by a guy named Vetoe. I wanted to get my cat's face tattooed on me and I was told by one of his co-worker's that he was really excited to do this tattoo on me. Now it seems like he was just excited to PRACTICE on me. Before reading any further about what I have to say about my tattoo experience, take a look at the photo I uploaded of the tattoo I got here, so that you can get a better understanding of what's the follow. First of all, on the outline he drew up, he did not draw thin parallel lines over the head. When he was tattooing however, he started to freehand draw lines over the cat's head.. I was completely taken back by this but what could I do? There was nothing I could say at this point. I was speechless and shocked that he did that without even consulting me about it first. Second, I repeatedly told him before I got the tattoo that I didn't want it to be too dark. Meaning I didn't want too much shading on the tattoo. I'm not a fan of tattoos with lots of shadow. Low and behold, the whole tattoo came out way too dark and just looks like a huge oil spill on my forearm. Third and WORST of all, the tattoo isn't symmetrical. My best friend took a picture of the tattoo straight on and we could tell right away the face was uneven. One eye is higher than the other!! My cat's face is LOPSIDED. Needless to say, I hate this tattoo and am very disappointed in my experience at this shop overall. Never going back. read more

Manager Ruben and Bud are awesome as well. Super helpful and make you feel comfortable, any questions related they assist you with answers, respect and a positive attitude. While your getting tatted it's a fun vibe, everyone is 100% professional and very clean. (Specially with the COVID situation) since October 2020 I've had 3 sessions with Frank, I can't put the words together of how perfect he makes the positioning of your tattoo, he gives you advise on what your choosing, your options and of course he executes a masterpiece. 1 star because Steve Lopez is the worst in the game. His hands are heavier than all the weights in the gym. That chump should not be holding a tattoo gun. Reading prior posts he damaging people's skin and putting wonky art on their body. He banged up my art and I'm going to get a cover up. Went back in 2006 and was more than happy with the result for my small wrist tattoo by Brian. Back in '07, was super happy with my nose piercing, again by Brian. Came back today and Juan got my new pieces done perfectly-- and was hilarious while doing so. As always, Inkslingers delivered and was an overall best choice to get work done and spend a part of my afternoon. Customer/fan for life. As someone without a ton of tattoo experience, they were more than accommodating to me adjusting what I wanted before we got started. I am really disappointed with my tattoo, done by Steve Lopez. I went in to have a small, vintage teapot done on my inner arm. I brought a source image that was not shaded. He popped it into photoshop and showed me a shaded version that looked pretty nice. Unfortunately, he was unable to mimic that image on my arm. The teapot is supposed to be of metallic material and therefore should have a lot of contrast to indicate shiny parts. As you see in the image, it is extremely over shaded. The details and line work are lost due to the muddied nature of overshadowing. His shading work is also really off; the tattoo doesn't look metallic at all! The flowers are all asymmetrical and wonky and the scalloped sections are uneven and really poorly shaded. There is not enough contrast in this tattoo. Midway through tattooing, he revealed to me that he was new at the trade. I was completely worried. As we moved forward I noticed there was a lot of shading and that everything was very dark. I expressed my concerns several times and on each occasion, he told me it would turn out beautifully and that all the small details and line work would "pop" after healing. He also boasted about how he was able to pick up tattooing quickly and that he had a good artistic sense. He talked up his time in Oregon painting murals and studying fine arts. Well, He might be an impressive painter but as a tattoo artist, he was extremely disappointing. Now, because the image is overshaded, there is no room for improvement. I've contact several other artists and no one can do anything about it bc it is too dark and overshaded. I'm only giving two stars because my first time here was positive and I was happy with that tattoo; however, this second one was poorly done. Steve really missed the opportunity to make my tattoo beautiful. I will not go here again to be assigned to a novice artist and walk away with a subpar tattoo. read more

I see a few people complaining about them being pricey, you're getting a tattoo, not getting your transmission fixed. Good tattoos aren't cheap, cheap tattoos aren't good. I came to inkslingers for my first tattoo (and only tattoo thus far) about 4 years ago. Yes, even at 26 years of age I was kind of intimidated with the whole concept. Maybe my mom traumatized me. When i started telling her I was going to get a tattoo, she started threatening me saying that if I did, she would plug in the iron and burn the tattoo off. You know... the typical Catholic Mexican mom threats. For someone getting inked for the first time, the studio has a real comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The artists are real cool and social. While I was browsing through their art book's, they would try and get inside my head by asking all types of questions, to get an idea of what I might want. Real professional dudes. Well I end up on the chair that same day, and I fell in love with my tat as soon as it was finished. I've recieved compliments on the shading and "professional" look to it. Yes they are a little more pricier than other shops, but as they say, you get what you pay for. Trust me when I say that your money will be well spent here. This place gets 5 stars for not just their amazing tattoo's, but also for their awesome customer service and professionalism. I wish I could remember the artist's name to give him a shot out. I've followed all of their work for a good awhile and expected these talented MF-er's to be on the asshole side but that's not the case at all. Great atmosphere to get a tattoo at! Best yet! For my tattoo I went with Adrian. Not only is he a humble dude he's very laid back and will try to come up with the best ideas to fit your needs. I had a pretty big piece done by him and it took about 8 hours and he was all work. From the past I was used to guys always taking smoke breaks every hour. Adrian is all business and you can tell he is very passionate about what he does. If you're coming into inkslingers word of advice come in with an idea of what you want and some research done on whoever you choose, don't waste these guys time. But Adrian is the man!! Even after paying an outragous 1600 for cover up tattoo and not being completely satisfied with the the results after healing don't expect to have a follow up session to touch up or try to better the tattoo a bit because u will be avoided. Back 2004 when I just turned 18. I got my first navel pierced here. The guy was "flirty" I guess you can say cause as I was laying on the bed thingy..I remembered he maked the spot where to be pierced and used the tongue to hold it in place (hurts more than the piercing needle going through my skin) @ first he made a comment my skin was too tight for him to grab hold -__- my best friend at the time laughed & when it was time I squeezed & almost broke her hand. Last year I came back getting my lip pierced & boyfriend at the time was already getting started with his "Los Angeles" tattoo on his arm. I went thru it again going thru the tougue on my lip & i thought i was drooling, didnt feel much pain because the listerine numb that away. Well as we were done I tried taking a snap shot of myself with the piercing in the shop and the guy who was giving release form for other people to sign he said "no flash cameras" -___- my camera phone didnt have a flash in it. So he was being very mean! It was kind of rude, the guy could of said there's no taking pictures allowed or something like that & he didnt even say please or thankyou -__- Overall my friends do come back here to get tatt'd BUT if you want something small and reasonable price I say check other Alhambra Tattoo parlor. My friend got two tiny hearts on her wrisk for $60, it was the shops minimum price. I spent a lot of time looking up tattoo artist that specialized in black and grey/ portraits. I found these guys and had to check them out. I wanted to get tattooed by Brian but he was booked for a long time so they took my info down in case there were any cancellations and boom what do you know, someone cancelled and I got a call to come on in. The shop is bigger than most, and the environment is very clean & sterile. Ruben was great with customer service. I got tatted by Brian, he works faster than most and I could tell off the bat that he is a perfectionist. I was surprised that he was able to get this done in one session when many other artist informed me that it would be two sessions. I have A LOT of tattoos and I get stopped constantly about my portrait from frank, done at the golden state tattoo expo and people are always asking me where I got my rose done by Fred. I got my tattoo over 3 years ago from this neighborhood place and I am very happy with the service and the results. The shop is clean and they helped me take a custom font from a book I had and turn it into a tattoo. I think the price was very reasonable at $160 for a 2hour job. Keep in mind that was 3 years ago so YMMV. Overall I am happy with the experience, I always try to support my neighborhood, and the tattoo has held up very well! One star because the manager "Ruben" is a rude unprofessional person who has the nerve to contact me through text and tell me I'm banned from ever getting a tattoo at ink slingers again due to his mistake. ( I'll get to that issue later) I got a tattoo a few months ago I put down a $300 deposit and was booked for my forearm appointment. Ink slingers books you for either a half day (prices range 600-800) to a full day which I paid $1500 for my forearm to be done...I will say the tattoos here are pricy!! I can see how some people on the reviews say it's overpriced especially if you want something small. I've gotten tattoos at other shops that are just as good for a lot less. I would say unless you get a big piece and pay $1500+ for a FULL day it's not worth coming here and even then you can find artists who are really experienced and can do it for a lot less. Now back to why the manager told me I could never come back again... a few months passed after getting my forearm tattoo and wanted a small Tatoo on my bicep and contacted the shop spoke to the manger Ruben and asked what artist Are available on 6/27 for a HALF day. The manager tells me a certain artist (I won't put his name on blast because it's not his fault) is available but he "CAN'T" book me with the artist until I put down a $300 deposit like it's normally done at this shop. I asked Ruben to give me the artists PayPal info so I can get the process going and book my date. Ruben said he'll CALL ME BACK. A day passes. Ruben the manager didn't call me back.. I call the store guess what 6/27 is no longer available only 6/28.. so now I have to ask for that date and he says he can't book me until I put down the deposit I told Ruben ok I'll talk to the artist and get his info. (It's important to note for people who don't live local it's a hassle to book appointments in this shop because you have to get in contact with the artist you want then email him, the response usually takes awhile and then after that u set up and use PayPal and then finally you can book your appointment but by then the date you wanted might get booked like in my case.) After contacting the artist he gave me his info however by then because I wasn't going to get the date I wanted due to Ruben not calling back now I was stuck with 6/28 which I didn't know if I wanted and knowing how pricy the shop can be I started to even think if it was even worth going through with it so I DIDN'T REPLY BACK TO THE ARTIST NOR DID I EVER MAKE A DEPOSIT. The day 6/28 come and Ruben texts me saying if I'm going to come to the appointment? I was surprised because I know I didn't make a appointment but started to think maybe they couldn't book it with anyone else so they wanted to double check and see if I was still interested. So I responded to him saying yes I'll take the date but then remembered I actually had something planned so 3 min later I told him nvm I can't take it.. then Ruben decides to text me trying to tell me the artist wasted a day now and in the future if I want to make a appointment I have to make a deposit for double the amount and it was my fault because I was somehow BOOKED for 6/28 ,even though he never called me back nor did I ever make a deposit. I respectfully responded to him telling him it was his error and rather then owning up to his mistake he tells me he's been running the shop however long and knows how to do his job and says "you won't ever be getting a tattoo here again". Personally I don't care because I didn't have intentions to going back to a shop that is overpriced which is why last minute I'm glad I never officially booked and appointment and deposited the money but the fact that the manager has the nerve to do that just shows what kind of person he is. Even when you just call to inquire about info or make an appointment in person, just pay attention to how he carries himself you'll know what I mean the guy doesn't act like a manager. I don't know about you but I don't want to do business with a guy like that. He only cares about your money. You can see other similar reviews on how the service is unprofessional. I feel bad that the artist wasted a day because a terrible manager decided to book someone who never confirmed to take the date let alone pay the deposit Some artists at ink slingers are good .. but ink slingers isn't the only shop with talented artists. Jeez, this place SUCKS. I was referred here to a few friends who had gotten "phenomenal" tattoos from here. I've always wanted tattoos, but I was always afraid that I wouldn't like the tattoo after it would be done, because I have major OCD about what I want. Needless to say, Ink Slingers has many awards and good reviews, but I just did not like this place at all. The moment I walked in, I was not greeted whatsoever. I am a lady of class, so I took a seat at the desk, and patiently waited, as the artists rounded up their work. After five minutes, some bald half brain-dead looking guy walked in, and one of the artists looked up and said, 'AY FOO WATS UPPPPPPP?!" Very professional. I had to wait an additional ten minutes until a man from the back came out and asked me what I wanted. He didn't even shake my hand and ask me my name. I'm not trying to be bitchy, but I would assume tattoo artists to be cultured and mature. I told him what I wanted, and to my happiness, he told me that because the piece was small, it could be done that day. He said that someone would be ready for me at 6:00 p.m., and it was three at the time, so, I thought I'd explore more of Valley Boulevard while I waited. Grabbed a bite, checked out some stores, chilled out for a while, and came back to Ink Slingers. What does the guy say? "Sorry, one more hour." Okay, I thought... I am a walk in after all... Fast-forward: 12:00 a.m. By this point, I was so tired that I was hunched over the bench, being kept awake, only by the buzzing of the needle in so many other customers. Finally, it was my turn. I got the tattoo sized, and placed on my arm. The guy I got was named Hi-Tone. He didn't look or sound very professional, so I was a little skeptical. Seems like my intuition was correct anyhow... I took care of the tattoo exactly how he told me, and now that it's fully healed, I get to enjoy this piece of art on me for the rest of my life!.... Not. I can honestly say, Hi-Tone did a horrible job. I took care of the tattoo like a newborn baby, so all defects, I blame on him. It was a small bird with color, but I noticed that he didn't even finish coloring. There are some little splotches where the ink should be, but isn't. Plus, the outline is blotchy and thin in areas, so it overall looks like a horrible tattoo. Overall, it was two by one inches, and for the tinsy bit of color that was used, the tattoo cost me a hundred bucks. Not worth it at all. I would not even get the tattoo for free, had I known it would turn out this horrible, and to be honest, I believe that they jipped me, because I obviously am not some tattoo connoisseur. I am an honest woman trying to get some culture and fine art up in this mother, but no! Pick on the Asian who doesn't know anything. Typical and despicable! I will never, EVER come back here again. They have a big public lot to park and they are open late. Shop is very noticeable and clean inside and out. The shop managers, artists and even the other clients really make every experience fun. You should be comfortable w people heavily tattoed and with "cholo" appearances (as one yelp review stated). I came in set on a tattoo ..and they set me up w a deposit and appointment. I got tattooed by Mikey, super chill guy and very steady hand. I am VERY happy with the tattoo ..although it is pricey, I rather spend more for something this delicate. Thanks a lot, IS ! read more
