I loved our stay at the Inn at Northrup Station. We stayed here for 1 night while in Portland after someone recommended it to us. It is in a good location, clean, comfortable and very spacious. We had a 2 queen bed room with a small living/tv area, and a kitchenette. There was plenty of room for my husband and I to stay with 2 of our kids and not feel like we were cramped in any way. The room had all of the amenities we needed, and the decor was super cute! I wish we had stayed another day or two, and if we are ever in Portland again, we would definitely stay here! read more

Decent price. Check in and check out was easy. Staff was friendly. Great location; close to streetcar stations and walking distance from food and shops. Streetcars are free with your stay! The hotel is kept clean. The room was cleaner than most hotels I've stayed at. In the room, the kitchen appliances and kitchenware were up to date. Spacious room. I appreciate their complimentary hot coffee machine and salt water taffy in the lobby. Breakfast options were good for complimentary (cereal, bagels, toast, yogurt, fruit, hard boiled eggs, cheese, oatmeal, granola bars). Only downfalls were that the floors are extremely creaky. Every morning I could hear the people walking around upstairs (very early). The pillows were too soft making it hard to get comfortable every night. Balcony didn't have chairs. Definitely was a little skeptical of staying here. So glad we did as it was such a great little spot. Perfect location close to a lot of coffe shops, restaurants and Trader Joe's. This side of Portland was nicer and we were able to walk around the neighborhood that was full of beautiful buildings and tons of blooming cherry blossoms trees. Yes, the hotel is very colorful and bright. It's not your traditional boring neutral color pallet but that wouldn't work here. So, actually, this hotel fits right in. I appreciate all the color and funky vibes it brings. Rooms are spacious. Love the kitchen with full size oven, dishwasher and fridge! There is also a garbage disposal in the sink. This place has all the comforts of home. The beds are very comfortable. The pull out couch isn't so bad either. The kids didn't seem to mind. We all slept well with the blackout curtains. Highly recommend staying here. Even comes with a continental breakfast. And fruits available in the lobby. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.also, very friendly staff! We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn at Northrup-Station; it is a unique, retro, adorable, and quaint inn with kind staff. There is the sound of the streetcars on the bottom floor in the "100s" room area, but it didn't bother me at all. We appreciated the accommodations. You can use your hotel room key card for streetcar transit; they partner with a microbrewery to offer a free pint of beer on Mondays and Wednesdays. They also provided free dish soap, coffee, and a daily continental breakfast. The breakfast is pretty standard (bagels, cereal, Oikos yogurt, and protein shakes), but considering the price, itis quite decent. Some reviews mentioned there are a few maintenance issues, such as cracks in the walls, but the place is far from run-down. Staff always provided towels, tissue paper, and are approachable. The room is nicely designed and features a colorful room design. Stove, dishwasher, and fridge that work great, along with furnished silverware, pots, and pans. I loved everything about my stay, but just like previous reviewers mentioned - walls are paper thin. I could hear absolutely everything in the neighboring rooms and the hallway. Other than that - I loved how friendly and helpful the staff was. Design f the whole hotel is very vibrant. It could be tacky somewhere else, but they did everything in the same style, so it worked great. Cute hotel/train logos everywhere, colorful walls, artwork. The room was like a condo with a nice kitchen, work table, 2 TVs, sofas, coffee table. It could be a great place for a staycation or a work trip as you can have a nice work station in your room. We stayed one night at the Inn at Northrup Station. Since I booked through the hotel, joining their free Inn Crowd program, they provided a welcome gift. I interacted with four different staff members during my visit, and all of them were helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and included a sitting area. There was a kitchen area with a microwave, mini fridge and dishwasher. The beds were very comfortable, and six pillows were provided on each bed. The amenities made this hotel very affordable. On site parking is included. Tickets to use Streetcar (for 2.5 hours) are provided. The hotel is located in a nice part of town and close to many restaurants and coffee shops. Since we stayed on a Monday, we were given coupons to Breakside Brewery where we both enjoyed a free pint of beer with our meal. They provided a continental breakfast that was quite extensive, including gluten-free bed. Their coffee/tea bar is the best. The coffee is ground fresh and made to your liking. The only down side that I can see would be the squeaky floors in the hallway and if there were noisy guests. We did not experience this. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief day and plan to return in the future. read more

We have found our home away from home when we visit Portland. I cannot think of a hotel that fits our needs better, anywhere. While not luxurious, who really needs those frills, Inn at Northrup Station has everything a person needs while visiting. Being older, our needs surpass most. The rooms are large, with full kitchens. Our king bed was comfortable, and with chairs, desks, a couch, there's always a place to sit to enjoy the two televisions. Location is amazing, restaurants, bars, shops galore, but real, not touristy. The Inn is in a Portland neighborhood, in a city that treasures neighborhoods. Service works hard, and is gracious. The funky design reminds me of the original Kimpton hotels, before they became corporate. Colorful and quirky, the Inn at Northrup Station represents the bohemian soul of Portland. I loved our stay. We stayed 3 nights at Inn @ Northrup about a month ago. While I will say it had some positives, for the most part it was my least favorite hotel we stayed in on our roadtrip. The good: - They have parking! We were able to park in their lot for our 3 night stay (huge bonus) - They have lot of extras included in your rate (like the streetcar passes, a free craft beer at a local brewery and I think they had a wine night or something similar). - Breakfast is included (although we never did eat it, it looked like your normal hotel breakfast with bagels and what not). - The rooms all have a full kitchen including a Keurig coffee machine and ice machine in the freezer. - The rooms have a couch and desk also (plus TVs, although not all operational) - Beds were firm, but comfortable. - Front desk people were mostly helpful and friendly. The not great: - The walls are paper thin and we heard our upstairs neighbor and people in the hallway constantly. - It is decorated very vibrantly and modern, but it has seen better days (translation, it is old and worn). The exception to this is the kitchen which seemed in good working order and very shiny. - The bathroom really needed re-caulked and maybe re-tiled. Lots of mysterious black stuff going on in there. Not to mention it caves in in the middle of the tub (really awkward to stand in). - The toilet faces the bed. Literally if you are on the bed and your partner doesn't shut the door - expect to get a perfect view. They also have a mirrored wall behind the toilet (which I found distracting in bed) but you can't close the door to get away from the mirror as the door is mirrored! - The bed was literally a couple steps from the door (so you get all the hallway noise). - It boasts 2 TVs (one in the living/kitchen area and one in the bedroom). However, our bedroom TV did not work and the front desk guy said it was "no big deal" because our other one did. My problem is that the other one is across the room and I literally could barely see it or hear it from the bed (which is the only place I wanted to watch TV). All the TVs are flat screens, but not HD - they are very old. The neighborhood was nice. I loved being so close to the streetcar. It worked, but I don't know that it was quite what I expected for the price. read more

This place is super cute and may be my new favorite Portland hotel. I always come by car, so I need a place with parking that isn't an additional huge fee. Once I get to Portland though I prefer to stay parked and walk or use public transportation. This place is on the street car line and comes with 2 free street car passes per day (each good for 2.5 hours). I also tend to seek out hotels that include coffee and breakfast as this an added bonus. The breakfast here wasn't spectacular, but I was happy to find things like soy milk, apple sauce, kiwis and granola bars. My partner enjoyed the cheese and hard boiled eggs. The communal dining area is a bit small and we did have one morning where the staff rushed everyone out, but we were done anyhow. We were really sad we arrived too late for the Thursday night Hoppy Hour beer tasting. The price we paid was really reasonable, not sure if we got a special or not, but I did find you could save money by booking directly on their website. The room itself was huge with 2 tvs and a full kitchen. I mostly come to Portland to eat, so I didn't take a ton of advantage of this, but it's good to know it's available if you need it or at the very least to be able to reheat up and refrigerate your left overs. I also found the shampoo and conditioner to be higher quality than most. We could hear our neighbors slightly thru the adjoining door, but it didn't become too much of a problem. I also really liked the focus on places that you could exercise nearby and that my room had a yoga mat in it. I will definitely consider staying here again on my next visit. The walls aren't thin (as other reviews say) but the floor/ceiling is. Request a room on the 3rd (top floor) to minimize noise. The even-numbered rooms face the street and the odd-numbered rooms face the parking lot, some trees, and a backyard. Breakfast gets crowded closer to 9am, when it closes but they didn't run out of anything. Pretty good for a typical hotel continental breakfast. The coffee is strong and delicious. Great location in a quiet area of the city but walkable to restaurants, shops, and the streetcar. The streetcar is cheap and you even get one free pass when you check in. The rooftop patio is perfect for taking a moment to yourself, eating carryout with your crew, or socializing over a beer. read more

We had a great two night stay. Friendly staff. It is very clean and has fun Decor. Our room had a microwave, fridge, dishwasher and plates/silverware. There was a couch and chair and two TVs. Beds are comfy and nice linens. We had a balcony. It was quiet. We faced the parking lot. If you face the street you will hear the street car. The breakfast included: hard boiled eggs, yogurt, bagels, cheese, milk, cereal, oatmeal and FRESH apples, pears, oranges and bananas. There is a complimentary coffee machine and tea bags. I give The Inn at Northrup Station 2 out of 5 rating and here is why. * The hotel has very noisy. We have been subjected to listening to every word of conversations through the adjoining door from the room next door as well as guest partying in the parking area well past midnight. * The hotel housekeeping is understaffed. On more than one occasion, we had been out all day and come back only to find that our room had not been refreshed. * The bathrooms were not clean. Our bathroom not only had a fair amount of mold in the bathtub, but there was also the presence of ants. * The air-conditioning system was so loud, we were forced to turn it off completely. * The breakfast buffet once provided waffles and an egg option, but no more. As much as we have enjoyed the location of this hotel an it's proximity to wonderful stores and great restaurants, we will not stay here again. read more

This is a tough one since I know how hard this place tries to create a superlative experience for their guests. The bag of Starbursts delighted me and the bright colors were refreshing. We got a room with a kitchen, which was cool at first, but the TV (of which there is only one) is in the dining area and you can't watch it from the bed and can only barely see it from the living area. Then the chairs from which you might have wanted to watch the TV while you eat(?) are facing away from the TV. Not set up for convenience or comfort. The bed was wildly uncomfortable and hot with fluffy pillows that were also very uncomfortable and unsupportive. Under normal circumstances, I would've been in Portland out getting drunk and not caring about any of this stuff, but I spent the whole evening IN the room and found it difficult to get comfortable. read more

What makes this hotel unique? The style! It reminded me of the jetsons xD futuristic yet retro. The rooms come with a kitchen where it's fully stocked with all the supplies you need! The living room area is also great for relaxing and has a spinning chair ;D my husband loved the shower, good water pressure and relaxing. Beds are very comfortable and room was quiet. A little rumble from the street car but I found it comforting... (I don't like rooms too silent) speaking of street car! They offer complimentary tickets to ride it which takes you all over Portland. The hotel staff were great. I stayed for 3 days. As for the rest of the inn... You will hear EVERYTHING. The walls are paper thin, you'll hear your neighbors conversations- unfortunately I heard a whole lot more than that. It seems my neighbors didn't realize that you could hear a silent fart in the building. They did the deed multiple times in the middle of the night till early morning hours. I'm glad people were having fun but not at the expense of being woken up multiple times. It seems their bed was directly on the other side of ours and every moan, bed squeak, the clapping noise (ugh) and banging against the wall was right on our heads. They either checked out the next morning or were spent because the next night was much more peaceful, otherwise I would have asked to change rooms. I heard every creaky/stomping footstep from the hallways and every creaky step from my upstairs neighbor. If you're staying here for peace and quiet- you probably won't get it if you have anyone on either side or on top of you. I had a balcony but unfortunately I didn't read the guest policies beforehand- premises is completely smoke/vape free, which is understandable given the law. Won't fault the hotel for that but figured I'd drop it here for anyone else that might care to know. Other than that the inn was clean enough, I just figure for the price and their site boasting their revamp by an architect it would be better than a motel 6 but it really wasn't all that great in comparison. We had a great stay at the Inn for four nights. The location was perfect, close to restaurants and breweries. The streetcar stop is right outside, so it was an easy ride downtown. Downtown doesn't have the liveliest vibe so I am glad we stayed in the Northrup area as originally, I had considered a few downtown hotels. Also found the staff helpful, and the manager gave great suggestions + tips that were useful for the Columbia Gorge sightseeing. Breakfast was a lot better than the usual continental fare with lots of options, including Tillamook Cheese and Yogurt, Bagels, Cereal, and Chocolate milk. The coffee was surprisingly good, and I didn't have to go out to get any from cafes. The parking was free however the lot gets filled up pretty quickly. We did find parking - the last spot on one of the days. Thought I might use the kitchen, but the food in Portland is amazing so it didn't happen. It is nice, though, to have that option to cook for a longer stay. The bed was also extremely comfortable, and our room was quiet toward the back of the hotel. read more

We can't say enough about the Inn. The room was very spacious and had everything we needed. The front desk staff was super accommodating, Breakfast choices were varied and there was fresh ground coffee available all day. What can be better? Plus, we availed ourselves of the vouchers for two local restaurants---both the winery and brewery were great! We look forward to a return visit. read more

It was located near all of the right things, and the price was totally fair for the offerings they provided. Honestly all of the hotels I stayed at on my Tour paled in comparison to this one, to the point that the next time I stay in Portland, this hotel will be my first pick! Plus the design is so cute! What crazy and very interesting decor they have. Overall... I would come back again, except for the fact that there is no washer or dryer. I need to have a washer and dryer if I am staying more than 3 days haha! That is the only negative thing I have had to say about this inn. Everything else was wonderful! The customer service was excellent. The breakfast to go menu was full of variety. They had many different breads, bagels, English muffins, fruits, yogurt, juice, milk, cereal, oatmeals, granola bars, applesauce, and of course, coffee! In fact, they have the best coffee machine by far in any inn I have been to. I seriously visited this machine atleast 4 times throughout the day. Fun, hip, chic hotel in the eclectic Slabtown neighborhood of NW Portland. Sizeable room, fantastic breakfast and 24hr coffee station. Very friendly staff provided lots of great info about the area and the city in general. Complimentary streetcar tickets, brewpub pints, and glasses of wine were much appreciated. Our first time in Portland and we'e pleased with the great location of this hotel: fresh, revived, and up and coming with lots of young professionals out walking their dogs or heading home after a workout or yoga. Great place to stay in this post COVID environment where the high end hotels chains are failing at service. For the sanity of my family I need to eat early so the breakfast was great and included gluten free bread which was amazing for me. The hotel offers all these perks to other places and had great staff. The room provides kitchen which was great and you can tell is renovated from a likely very unattractive old apartments or hotel so the bathroom is average. I see complaints about noise but I thought it was less than other places and people really should have earplugs versus unrealistic expectations. read more

This is by far one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The staff has been so helpful and kind to us. Not to mention, the absolutely perfect room. This is the first hotel I have gotten a full nights rest at. The pillows are thick and soft, the blankets aren't stiff, the AC works wonders, and the curtains keep things dark in the morning. There is also a 'kitchen' which adds a bit of comfort to this space. May I also add that the artistic value of this hotel is insane. By far the most colorful, comfortable, and clean Inn. read more

This is probably a "love it or hate it" property. We've stayed five times now since our first visit in 2006. We loved it every time but one. That said, we took friends of retiree age along once for a couple of days stay and they were perplexed to find we thought this place was wonderful. So were relatives who gave thumbs up to location but thought the "Laugh-In meets MTV" décor "awful". On the flip side, my teen nieces deemed the place "AWESOME". Add multiple exclamation points. We tend to more agree with my nieces' assessment, still keeping in mind that while this is a boutique hotel it is decidedly not a luxury property. Converted from an old apartment building, the Inn at Northrup Station has pros and cons. One of the cons being the bathrooms are postage stamp sized and another being sound proofing between rooms leaves a lot to be desired, especially if you have folks in rooms above. And on the single occasion when we didn't enjoy our stay, indifferent staff behavior (not uncommon) had a lot to do with our poor experience. But there are many good things here and we like it. For the following reasons... LOCATION... ... is great. Right at the Northrup Station stop for for Portland's electric streetcar that you can hop on and take downtown or to The Pearl. (Portland has great public transportation and on one occasion when we stayed here we didn't use our car all weekend, relying on transit connections instead.). It is also walking distance to shopping and good eats in the Nob Hill area, like Ken's Artisan Bakery, City Market and Mingo. STUDIO SUITE SET UP with FULL KITCHENS... ...comes in handy for hauling back a little something from nearby City Market or Elephant's Deli for in room noshing. Keurig coffee makers. Free wifi and a desk in the living area of the suite. LARGE OUTSIDE DECK... ...located on top of the covered portico that is over entry is accessed off the third floor. It has tables and chairs and a barbeque grill. When weather allows we take a bottle of vino and some eats out there and call it a fun dinner. FREE PARKING... ...in the ample sized lot is a big plus for a Portland hotel. Woohoo! BREAKFAST... ...continental breakfast offered in the lobby (like bagels and yogurt) but with a kitchen in your unit and Nob Hill restaurants and bakeries nearby you may find you'll make other choices. THIS N THAT: 1) ROOM TIPS: Third floor rooms are best as that means no one is above you. While counter-intuitive, rooms facing Northrup are better than the rooms facing the back of the property. The Northrup (front) facing rooms are brighter. Also on that side, floors two and three have small balconies off the rooms and the first floor rooms may have small patios associated . Last, there are a couple of room classes. We recommend the one named Premiere King Suite (or thereabouts) for size and value. Rack rate about $170 / night these days, was under $100 when we started being guests here. Popularity of the place over time has helped support higher rates. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking in the lot. Level in. Elevators between floors. All good so far. However, this property fails the mere minimum Federal Civil Rights Law (aka ADA) standards for accessible rooms. Converted from apartments to hotel about ten years ago, well after the 1990 ADA applied, by law it must meet the minimums and it is shameful that it doesn't. Those minimums include accessible rooms distributed among floors and room classes. When I checked fo one in planning a stay with friends a couple of years ago, the only ADA room in the whole place was next to the lobby desk - worst location - facing back - worst outlook. Tilt. This violates Federal equal access law by denying equal access to rooms to people with disabilities. Shame on them. 3) PUBLIC TRANSIT: Portland's streetcar stop is right outside the door here. Ask at the desk for a complimentary ticket. 4) BOTTOMLESS CANDY JARS: Located in the lobby. This was among the reasons my nieces found this place fit them. But they also come in handy if you want to hang out with friends in the lobby after dinner and play cards. We retirees are easily entertained. read more

Monday is movie night and they have starbursts and an etch-a-sketch drawing of the inn at the front desk. Also love that the rooms have full kitchens in suite and patios. Downsides, their breakfast is pretty cookie cutter hotel continental. I would love to see healthier and fresher options.
