This started as a 4-5 star review. This meal was like a movie that has an amazing trailer and you are super excited for the main event and then the movie just kinda sucks. Let me explain... We arrive with no reservation and fortunately are seated right away. 5 stars. We order the grilled vegetables and mozzarella do bufula. Best mozzarella I've had in my life. It was delicious. You know how sometimes mozz just tastes like bland and you kind of wonder why you are wasting the calories? Well it was the opposition of that! I should also mention the veggies it came with were perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned, unlike most of the oversalt we food we've had in Italy. 5 stars. This is where it goes downhill. We wait for our main courses for over 50 minutes while the people around us get their mains, desserts and checks. No one comes by to offer us an explanation, more wine (which we finished during that time) (oh, and someone found the time to remove the empty carafe from the table too...). Finally my husband asks our waiter where our food is and he makes up some weird excuse about how they are preparing it (um ok). Few minutes later, still no food. Ask to speak to manager. Manager says coming right out, sorry, something with the kitchen. (1 star) Food arrives. Food is hot but totally bland and tasteless. I am a person who never puts salt on ANYTHING. I had to add salt to my risotto multiple times throughout the meal. And it was still bad. Steak had no seasoning at all. (1 star). We ate enough for sustenance and asked for the check. Which they were very fast about getting us and charging. Then he offered is free limoncello as a "I'm sorry". Too little too late (1 star). Anyway, if I was desperate, I would consider going back for mozzarella only. Probably not worth it though. read more

This restaurant came highly recommended by the place we were staying during our visit to Sorrento when asking where we could get some really good mozzarella. She hit the nail on the head, as our caprese salad was one of the best we've had, and only for ~€10-12 it was very reasonable. It was definitely big enough for the two of us, and could have been big enough to share with more (although we wouldn't have wanted to). The tomatoes were fresh as could be, with just enough olive oil drizzled on top. The cheese itself was absolutely delicious, as we could tell from the milk coming out when we cut it. The crusty bread was also very good to keep us satisfied while we waited for our cheese! We've also been told the meat is very good here, but given the fact that we were in Sorrento for only 2 nights, we wanted to take full advantage of the fresh seafood and didn't get a chance to try any other dishes...maybe next time! read more

I've eaten at Inn Bufalito twice. Portions are generous, service is very good and the ambiance is nice. The mozzarella is a must--I especially liked the bocconcini. On my first visit, I tried the squid ink pasta with calamari, prawns and cherry tomatoes (a daily special). That dish wasn't especially tasty--it lacked flavor. On my next visit, I had the paccheri with buffalo ragu. The paccheri was cooked perfectly, and I liked that it was served with a rectangle of ricotta on the side. My husband and I went here our first night in Sorrento. The staff is friendly and very helpful answering questions about the menu. The liter of house red wine was quite tasty and well-priced as were the dishes we ordered: Insalada Caprese - delicious tomatoes and cheese with arugula, added a touch of their balsamic and it was heaven! Pappardelle all a Genavese - not your typical pasta dish but still delicious. The "sauce" is a purée of cooked carrots and onion which is light and a bit sweet. The noodles were clearly homemade fresh that day. We agreed this seemed like something locals might make themselves. Paccheri di Ragu - this buffalo Ragu was more along the lines of what my husband and I are used to. The slow-cooked meat was the perfect consistency and the sauce wasn't too spicy but had great flavor. read more

Came here randomly on our trip to Sorrento and had an amazing time. The owner was accommodating even though we didn't have a reservation. Our server, Salvatore, was wonderful even though he seems to prefer the Yankees over the Mets. He recommended a good wine so we let it slide. We had the bruschetta and (if I recall correctly) the smoked burrata with sliced prosciutto. Both were incredible. For our entrees we had the homemade pasta with eggplant and the steak special. Both, again, were incredible. If you find yourself in Sorrento definitely swing by this place. And tell Salvatore I said "go Mets." read more

I would definitely recommend Bufalito! My husband and I ate a great meal here on our first night in Sorrento. We started with the assorted mozzarella cheese plate and it was a huge amount of food and so good. The smoked mozzarella was the best!! Definitely the best reason to visit this restaurant! My meal was the squid ink and shrimp risotto which was very tasty, though the risotto may have been a tad undercooked. My husband had the pesto and shrimp pasta dish and mentioned the pesto was fairly light, but liked it overall. Great location that is close to the main piazza but hidden down a narrow alley so it's a bit quieter. Service was good and pretty quick compared to other restaurants we visited in Rome. We ordered grilled vegetables with burrata and the rosemary focaccia. The focaccia was too crunchy but the burrata cheese was delicious - super fresh and creamy! Inn Bufalito was a cute little place tucked away on one of the many side streets of down town Sorrento. (good luck finding it because that's all I remember in terms of location) The decor is well appointed with their bufalito logo. A really cool logo at that. The servers here do speak English so no need to use any broken backwards Italian or pointing at stuff. We started with a buffalo caprese and rosemary herb bread. It was a great combo and I'd definitely order it again. As for our main dish had the buffalo steak served on a wooden board with roasted potatoes and 3 delicious sauces. It was also carved in front of us. It was cooked well, mildly under seasoned but the sauce made up for that and honestly it was chewy. I don't think this is a fault of the restaurant because we had other cuts else where and the meat was.. well..just has more chew to it in Italy. No idea why. Either way the ambiance was great, service fantastic, food was good I just don't think I'd have meat there again. read more

We picked up this restaurant - which does not take reservation - for our only dinner we had in Sorrente as I read that this place was implicated in the Slow Food movement. Which basically means that you are sure to eat local products. Well, there were actually only tourists which made me ask myself: "why do locals don't come up here if it's that good?". We started with cheese: the ricotta was not good, let's be honest but the mozzarella was indeed stupendous (when you crack it, you must have "milk" coming out of it). They made us order plain focaccia to eat with it but after this we could have stopped eating. Well it was only the starter. My boyfriend when for beef and me for spaghetti with meatballs. It was very, very good. The service is handy, quick but again, I found the place too much "touristy", like I was going to a tourist trap. Today was a great day as we had a horrendous lunch experience on Isle of Capri & an amazing contrast dinner in Sorrento! From the start we we're greeted very cordially and asked if we could dine earlier than our reservation -we were immediately wisked back to a great table and then served complementary prosecco ! We had several people tending to our needs and making great suggestions with options. We started with their homemade cheese sampler made on the premises. This place is called bufulito, because of their cheese designation and they serve primarily buffalo/ bison. The sample was the Piatto Degustagione that says it serves 2, but easily enough for 3-4= AMAZING!! Our table enjoyed the Tagliata di Bufalo al Gorgonzola, which is a meat lovers dream. Lots of flavor , cooked to perfection , and very lean/ fresh. The caponata classica is a must try - the combination of fresh ingredients and fresh Italian bread in your salad will make you never eat a crouton in your life again. Don't like bread - well, I'm not a bread eater and let's just report I couldn't resist. Finally, the Paccheri al ragu di Bufalo reminded me of Sunday dinners with my Nonna. The sauce and homemade will rock your ! Finally, I was taking a picture of the decor and the owner asked me if I liked the picture. He gave me a brochure for this incredible photographer art show just down the street in this beautiful church. It was the Sorrento Photo Festival in the Chiostro Di San Frescesco church. A little backstory, my boyfriend and I were staying in town for a week so we definitely had time to explore other options, but ended up coming back to Inn Bufalito 3 times (2x dinner 1x lunch). This was easily the best restaurant in Sorrento for several reasons: 1) Value: I am not a cheap person but often when traveling in touristy areas you end up paying more for a meal that is mediocre. That being said, with multiple courses and wine we never spent more than 60 Euro and that's together, not each. 2) Food: This restaurant is accredited by the Slow Food movement so you know you are getting authentic plates with respectable ingredients. We tried multiple things on the menu but the memorable plates were: Burrata di bufala: Amazing. Costata di Bufala: Also very good, kind of like a thick Fiorentina steak. Comes a bit raw in the middle so make sure you specify if that freaks you out. Most of the recipes use buffalo meat or buffalo related products as those are abundant in that area of Italy. Stunned that every review is not 5 stars because this was seriously one of the best meals I have ever had. It was so good, that after we went for dinner, w returned the next day for lunch. The mozzarella antipasto with grilled veggies was amazing. Mozzarella was so good that I can't even find the words. I had the buffalo steak for my entree, my wife went with the paccheri with buffalo ragu. My steak was pretty good, but her pasta was incredible. It was topped with the freshest ricotta cheese, incredibly flavorful. The next day, for "2nd lunch," which was probably my favorite part of Italy, I had the stuffed pepper. It was a huge pepper stuffed with sausage and veggies. It was outstanding. The wife had gnocchi with a tomato sauce, also very good. Inn Bufalito is one of the few good restaurants open when everyone else is closed during the early afternoon hours (Italy's lunch food-coma hour), so naturally we found ourselves here with practically no one else in the restaurant. We started out with the caprese salad, enjoying some delicious sliced mozzarella and tomatoes topped off with high quality herbs and olive oil. Perfect simplicity. For mains we ordered the fusilli with eggplant, sausage, and smoked mozzarella as well as the spaghetti with seafood (and it was a hefty portion of seafood). Both pasta dishes were very flavorful. The broth from the seafood pasta was so good (delightfully savory yet light) that we found ourselves soaking up every last bit of it with the remaining bread we had left in our basket. Service was friendly and professional. Highly recommend, especially if nothing else is open around the area during Italy's siesta period. read more

Got lucky, this restaurant is now closed until 1st of March 2014. Certainly this place was one of the best food experiences in Sorrento and surroundings. All the ingredients were simply good and fresh, a key to produce a delicious meal. The buffalo cheese plater is a must try, particularly the ricotta cheese. My Rustica salad was perfectly seasoned. The pasta was cooked to perfection, my favourite were the squid linguine and pasta with buffalo meat and brocolli. Trying the house wine is strongly recommended, goes well with the food. No complaints from the service, when you are the only one in the restaurant late afternoon at the end of November you would certainly get all the attention you need. The only disadvantage is the place is opened tavern and is relatively cold during this time of the year. read more

After having to experiment with restaurants on most of our trip (thank you YELP!), we were really excited to have a personal recommendation and it did not disappoint! We stopped in for an early lunch, but our friend (and the waiter) told us that reservations are a MUST as there is a line to get in which doesn't surprise me. We had the tomato, basil, mozzarella salad and the first word that came to mind was FRESH! It was exactly what I was looking for. We went here for lunch. Started with a vino rosato and a taurasi vino rosso. The rosato was on the sweet side but still good. The taurasi taste very full bodied. Since other yelpers suggested the foccacia rosemary, we tried it. Crispy yet soft. It was good. The beef tartare came with a side salad that made it taste better, other wise it would just be okay. The large tube pasta with beef ragu was served with mozzarella cheese on the side. The beef is really soft and easy to chew. They serve grappa...very tasty. read more

OMG, if it's August/hot make sure you angle for/reserve a table under the produce sprayers, because passive aggressively fighting over the fans with the other schlubs in the unmisted back corner is no joke. It's fine, I could be wrong but Sorrento seems like a crap shoot so this is a nice safe bet. I ordered the wrong thing, I knew not to get lasagne, rookie mistake, but it was so cheap I had to see how bad it could be. It was pretty bad. I got a meal sized signature salad as well that was entirely forgettable. The mozzarella was good enough, but not worth mentioning. It's a very nice looking pleasantly presented place for Sorrento or anywhere, if a touch newish. read more

Tucked away in a not so busy street - I think I would have walked past it if I hadn't read reviews about it before going out for dinner My boyfriend and I had researched where to eat in Sorrento quite thoroughly as we only had 3 nights and didn't want to waste them! We had picked a few to look at in person and we decided on this for our first night as we were very interested in the mozzarella and antipasti selections. Quite dark restaurant however very friendly and knowledgable staff We chose a cheaper bottle of Falanghina to drink (was delicious) and the mozzarella and mix antipasti plate to share for starter - the buffalo mozzarella was amazing! For main we both went for pasta - bf had buffalo strips with white sauce (very good) and I went for buffalo ragu. The sauce and meat was sooo good however the pasta (which was thicker than the other) was still raw in the middle. Waiter apologised straight away however still undercooked second time as well! I just ate the sauce and a few of the more well cooked bits as I didn't have the heart to send it back again. Desserts were ok but nothing special I would still highly recommend this place for the meats and mozzarella though! read more

Really liked this place. The menu is unique and inventive. We, of course, got a giant mozzarella ball and it didn't disappoint. We also ordered their warm bread seasoned with rosemary (again, yum). I had squid ink pasta with lobster and somewhat to my dismay, my boyfriend had buffalo meat that was stuffed with all sorts of goodness. We both really liked our meals (although my lobster came with shell and all, wasn't expecting that). Definitely a quality place. TIP: I see some reviewers discussing reservations. No! I do not recommend this place. If you do insist on coming, make sure you make a reservation. But even when you do, be careful where you are seated. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, and it was SO HOT. There is no air conditioning and only a little fan in the back. There is nothing worse than eating in a stuffy hot restaurant. I was hoping that the food would be good and get my appetite going, but it was not good enough to counter the heat. The food was honestly whatever. The best part was the mozzarella. It was probably the juiciest mozzarella I had on my trip to Italy. However, it was very pricey and we got the buffalo meat to go with it. Not impressed with the meat. I ordered the lasagna and my boyfriend got their fusilli and eggplant. Both were very mediocre. I've had better lasagna in the states! With so many fantastic restaurants in Sorrento, I do not think you should waste your money at this establishment. read more

Very good restaurant. Had a reservation and they had our table ready near the window looking onto the pedestrian street. The big thing here is buffalo dishes, both meat and cheese. Did not try any of the buffalo meat, but the buffalo mozzarella caprese was extraordinary. Also sampled the potato gnocchi (excellent) and the zuppa di mare (seafood soup) which was really great with the exception that about 1/3 of the clams and mussels either had broken shells or had not opened. Came here for dinner and a mid day "snack" on separate occasions and we were pleasantly surprised. Love the setting and ambiance. As stated by others, anything mozz is amazing here. The best I have ever had hands down. Got a beef special genavese which was quite good. Wifey got ravioli which was quite good. The grilled octopus was quite popular tonight, and the dishes were always empty. Staff is attentive and helpful. The offerings of liters of wine help too, and of course, it is european prices. My 2nd time eating here and just as good as the first! This place has the best tasting fresh mozzarella and everything else I have had on the menu is amazing. The focaccia bread is simple with rosemary and olive oil- I could have eaten the whole thing by myself! I ordered the gnocchi which was handmade, but by that time I was so full I couldn't finish the plate. The server seemed disappointed like something was wrong with it so I had to reassure him it was just because I ate too much! I love the decor in this place and the service is top notch. This was an excellent break from the traditional Italian food we'd been eating for 2 weeks and we really craved something different. The entrees themselves were just so so, nothing to write home about - what I would recommend is the appetizer: tasting platter of buffalo cheese (so so so delicious) with the focaccia with rosemary.
