Insalata's has impeccable service. From the moment we parked in their lot, we felt welcomed. A+. We started with drinks and the mezze plate, which was delicious. For our mains, we ordered the heirloom peach salad, lamb burger, chicken, vegetable tagine, and keftka. The chicken was delicious, while the lamb burger was very rare and overly seasoned. The salad had mushy tomatoes, but the peaches were delicious. The keftka was also too salty. The food was a mixed bag for us, but the service was outstanding from start to finish. read more

Yes, got me from the jump with the eggplant fries.... And then you had to tempt me with the fine craft cocktails, you're very bad.... Heirloom, tomato peach salad- stop it, call the cops! It just may be that anything this delicious should be illegal? (I did not inhale that mint cilantro chutney.) My wife endorses this inventive dish while leaving no residue on her plate: Salmon in coconut curry with couscous, zucchini, sunflower, seeds, herbs, cilantro, basil.(see pic) Excellent service each time I've been there and comforting to see professional servers that could've signed my high school yearbook, and back in my day gas was 19.9 cents a gallon. came on a saturday night (valentine's day) with a reservation and was seated after a few minutes. the worker at host stand seemed distressed but was so sweet and accommodating! she made a wonderful and welcoming first impression. our server was also great, explaining the menu and introducing the valentines exclusive items to us. after each course we ordered, our server took the empty dishes/used utensils and replaced them with the proper ones for the next course. really love their attention to detail and consideration. review of the items we got: lamb kefta, 7/10. the flatbread is the perfect shovel (not too hard/floppy) for this stew. has a good balance of tang, hint of spice, herbs, and umami. the lamb is perfectly tender, not too chewy or overcooked. the veggies and cheese(?) all blend together so well to make a complex dish. pappardelle: 9.5/10. the noodles are longer than expected, but cooked to the perfect al dente. the sauce has a delightful creaminess and a lot of flavor, coating and complimenting the lamb well. the meat is perfectly tender and is fall-off the bone. raspberry torte: 8/10. so good, the presentation was beautiful and i really like the chocolate swirl! the vanilla bean whipped cream is light and airy, no weird dairy aftertaste/. the chocolate components are also light but still was strong in flavor. the raspberry is tart, but balances tje rest of the elements to be not too sweet overall. surprisingly, my favorite part is the chocolate shortbread(?) heart; it's so thin and crispy but has such good flavor (kind of a toasted taste) that adds more depth to the dish. would definitely come back, the food and service were wonderful! just wish the ambiance were a bit more romantic (dimmer lights, a candle/ flowers on the table, etc) read more

After five or six meals in about 3 months - alone, with my boyfriend, and with small groups I can say that nothing has been missed or been off in any way. Excellently prepared dishes, attentive service, an atmosphere that is beautiful and easy to hear and converse even when full. Well worth their prices which are reasonable enough for the experience. Love eggplant fries, the green hummus and best ever pita, lamb burger-wow, tagine - yummy, all the salads and soups - yes! The soups have been especially wonderful and an adequate size to share - not one of those small cups. I can't recall the names but the flavors still linger, one being a creamy mushroom that was light and silky. Desserts - a special mention for the Dubai chocolate pistachio cake! There is a small bar to sit at but there are some cocktail tables too. Reservations are helpful and I've gotten in as a 1 or 2 easily even when they're busy. Outstanding. I've heard Insalata is great, and happened to be in San Anselmo so stopped in for lunch. The restaurant has a great vibe, elegant indoors and comfy outdoors. The lunch menu was very appealing, with fresh and tasty options. I ordered some kind of tuna burger, which was fantastic. A piece of medium rare albacore tuna on a perfectly grilled roll with slaw. They provided a steak knife so I deconstructed and ate every bite! Delicious. My companion ordered a Syrian fatuoush salad with salmon. Equally delicious. Service was prompt, professional and friendly. I can, without any hesitation, recommend Insalata's for a fresh, tasty meal in a lovely setting. read more

Summarizing a truly amazing experience! We sat on the patio for dinner and started with the Syrian fattoush salad, eggplant fries and Negroni Classico with a bottle of White wine from Tuscany. The salad was exceptional with all fresh ingredients and the fries were light and crispy and came with a zesty dip. For the main course we got the Moroccan 7 vegetable Tagine and Squid Ink Spaghetti. The Tagine was exceptional. My squid spaghetti had too much corn and was on the sweeter side. We got the ice cream sandwich for dessert and it was delicious with the right blend of crunch, ice cream and cheesecake. The vines on the patio gave it a Tuscan villa charm. The service was excellent even with a full house on a weekday night. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Marin county area. read more

hello! insalatas has a nice environment. it is loud, but festive. seating is comfortable and front desk is cheerful. my concerns are these: Our server seemed so rushed and never asked if he could replenish drinks. the portion sizes are ridiculous. the kids meal had so much food, it was unappetizing for him. our portions were massive. we were from out of town so it is a huge waste of food and this should be a consideration. regarding the dishes themselves, good flavor but not very attractive presentation. now here's the last thing: because we ordered foccaia, we had to order the whole dinner right then....who does that? disappointments with this one. read more

Perfect trio of 5 star service, fabulous food, and not too noisy interior. Came here for dinner with another couple. Our waiter was attentive and provided excellent service. We started off the eggplant French fries. Wow, they are super light and delicate. Then we ordered several salads. My favorite was the stone fruit salad. The mushroom appetizer was very fragrant and not too earthy. The squid ink pasta with shrimp was delicious and I would come back again for this. The other guests had a perfectly roasted chicken, not leathery at all. The brined pork chop was tender. The white bean/artichoke soup was outstanding. It was busy when we arrived and we had to wait a long time for a table. Once seated, we had to wait a long time for the waitress to take our orders. After that, we waited a long time for our orders to arrive. Soups were lukewarm and a burger I ordered was both overcooked and cold. My suspicion is that all three meals sat quite a while on the counter before being served. I love the burst of flavors, and the enhancement the ingredients contributed to the flavor and essence of the beets. The tagine was pure comfort. Everything blended well in my opinion. The tomato chickpea stew and turkish yogurt as stated on their menu description of this made it so awe-inspiring (I'd say you would feel that way too!) I will come back to try their other dishes. I've eaten at Insalata's at least a couple dozen times, and it's always great. Delicious dishes, cocktails, and desserts. OMG it's good. The Fatoush salad is in regular rotation for me, and it includes mint leaves, which really put it over the top. Last night, we had flounder, and it was fantastic; some kind of parsnip sauce. Fantastic. The Mezze plate is also a favorite; really good hummus and tahini. The space is beautiful, and the waiters are helpful and attentive. read more

I've been coming Insalatas for many years, but today I went for their Dungeness crab roll. It's a new item on the lunch/brunch menu and I love them. Most that I have had and loved are the traditional East Coast style with split bun, cole slaw, French fries and Old Bay Seasoning. But Insalatas makes this dish their own and wow. The split roll is baked inhouse and larger and firmer than typical buns. It has delicious herbs inside. The Dungeness crab salad is mixed fresh and has dill, avocado, and fennel. It's huge. It's served with homemade potato chips dipped in buttermilk powder and salt and more magic herbs. Addictive and a little too salty. Last but not least is simple mixed greens salad with a light vinaigrette dressing. So I had a very happy lunch today. It's getting harder to find crab rolls and I'm delighted Insalatas created this gem. Bravo read more

I've been to Insalata's three times (so far) under very different circumstances. First time: Checking it out in late April in advance of a private dining event I had already signed a contract for. I wanted to preview what I could of the event menu and was made very happy by my choices! The eggplant fries are a signature dish and popular for a reason...they are insanely crisp and so fun to eat with their tangy dipping sauce. My daughter's salmon was cooked in a chunky tomato-based sauce (changes seasonally), and my bavette steak was flavorful and tender. I feel guilty that I didn't love the house-made tiramisu, but the sorbet/gelato combo was excellent. Sharon blew us away with her attentive service. Second time: For the event itself in early May, for about 25 people. I worked with Beth - who was super responsive and accommodating - to arrange the event. I requested Sharon as our lead server and I'm so glad I did because she took exceptional care of everyone there. The restaurant's all-inclusive menu for events is an incredibly great deal. The guests ate with reckless abandon and were amazed at how the food, beer, and wine just kept coming and coming. For apps, the eggplant fries were a hit and the hummus was among the best I've had. Next was the fattoush salad, which could be a full meal with a piece of protein added. For the main there was a choice of vegetarian platter, salmon, yogurt-marinated chicken (I got this and LOVED it), or bavette steak. I wish I remembered the other dessert option but I was too focused on getting more of that sorbet and gelato. Third time: Last week, just because. My daughter ordered the salmon again, and this time it came with a coconut curry sauce. My lamb burger was good but the fries were even better. More of that terrific sorbet and gelato for dessert. Bonus: Sharon walked by and recognized us. We love her! I recommend Insalata's for hands-on service, easy event planning, upscale yet comfy ambiance, and a delicious, high-quality Mediterranean menu. Note: For the event, Insalata's was able to put together a menu that could easily and on the spot accommodate any food allergy or restriction, which saved me from having to chase my guests for that information ahead of time. read more

Food is a good as the one in the restaurant, they have a variety of salads my favorite one is the salmon. This was a birthday meal, and it exceeded expectations. It got off to a rocky start with employees which is why I gave it four stars for service. The food was top notch. I ate outside and the atmosphere was nice, pretty and protected from the sun. I got there forty-five minutes before it opened and a short young kid at the back register just seemed to be ignoring me until I finally spoke up. And then who I was told was the manager was going to have me wait on the outside benches until they opened until I said I had a reservation for outdoors and then he said I could sit at one of the outdoor tables. He said they were going to clean or something, but nothing was done to the three tables on the side I was seated. There was who may have been a bus boy named Felix who was a little nasty and insulting to me. Then the waiter Brian came over and initially said something that was disturbing, but when I asked him his name and we began chatting a little and I mentioned an employee there I knew, we seemed to have a good interaction, and it was a nice birthday dinner experience overall. read more

We celebrated our daughters birthday at Insalata's earlier this week and had a wonderful experience. The service was outstanding and the food was so flavorful and delicious. When we left we talked about how much we enjoyed every dish! We had the eggplant fries, mezze platter and gnocchetti to start. I don't even usually like eggplant and I LOVED the fries! Mezze platter was seasoned perfectly, and the gnocchetti was to die for. For our mains we had the salmon (which was cooked perfectly and came in a delicious curry sauce) the lamb burger, which my daughter loved, and the pork chops with apples was fantastic. And the celebration cake at the end was the perfect way to end our meal - so moist! We will certainly be dining here again. read more

We recently visited to celebrate a birthday and absolutely loved all the dishes. To start, we ordered their House Baked Foaccia, Eggplant Fries and Mezze Plate. The focaccia was perfectly baked and delicious with the whipped feta. The eggplant fries were nice and crispy and loved the mint cilantro chutney with it. The mezze plate portion was bigger than we expected that we filled up pretty quickly just based on the starters. We also tried their Melon and Burrata salad which had great flavor. For mains, we tried their Harissa Rubbed Pork Chop and Grilled Salmon. Both the pork chop and salmon were cooked perfectly and very tender. Our son ordered the chicken tender kids meal and even the tenders and fries were great. We ordered the Pavlova for dessert and it was perfect way to end the meal. I can see why this restaurant is so busy because all the dishes were amazing! We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. read more

We've been going there for twenty years. This review is a culmination of eating there several times over several months. Currently the restaurant, supervised by the son of the long time owner is awful. I don't understand why it still attracts so many people. Way too expensive. Rude management. Wait people are indifferent. Hostess is unfriendly like she was doing us a favor. Long waits for food to arrive at our table. The manager made it clear to us that they don't care if customers return so this review shouldn't matter to them. And the food? The food? Small portions, no regard for customers with special food needs (no salt please, sharper steak knife please, a straw, a fresh napkin etc.) Lamb was overcooked, the pasta was dry. There was a half an hour between wait-person's visits to the table. I had to wave her down. But she jumped on the credit card when I put it was put down. I can only imagine how unhappy the wait staff might be when bullied around by the manager. This place has really gone down hill.What is the hype? We won't be returning. read more

WoW!!! Kendra was fresh, upbeat, engaging, patient with us. She alone is five star service in addition to the food we selected to enjoy. I focused on the "French toast". This is not the French toast my mother maid. This is five stars alone, house made brioche, cooked to perfection crispy on the outside and slightly sweet custard on the inside. Served with fresh berries and real maple syrup and real bacon slices. I recommend this dish. They also serve non alcoholic shrub. Try it if you don't know what it is ... it is refreshing. Nancy and I had lunch here while my car was being serviced at Marin Mazda. She picked me up at the dealership and since my service advisor had warned me it would be ready late in the day, we felt free to roam. Nancy suggested Insalata's and I had warm memories of my meals here, so I agreed w/ enthusiasm. Nancy dropped me off at the back door and while she parked I went to secure a table. The hostess greeted me, showed me to a table and told me where the bathrooms were, which was a thoughtful touch. Nancy joined me shortly afterward. We looked over the menu and what interested me was the prawn salad, which was comprised of grilled marinated prawns, shredded cabbage, carrots, cucumber, radish, kale, apple, red onion, cilantro, basil, and pepitas in a sesame ginger vinaigrette, Nancy ordered a medium rare hamburger, which came w/ fries. I had English breakfast tea to drink, w/ oat milk and Stevia, and Nancy drank water. Because we were busy talking I didn't notice how long it took for the food to come, but it was a reasonable wait. When the food arrived Nancy offered me some of her fries, which were delicious. My salad was gorgeous, as Linda's was 9 years ago. I didn't take photos because my phone has developed issues sending photos to my computer. They get lost in cyberspace. I have to sort that out w/ professional help. The salad was amazing. Nancy was happy w/ her hamburger and fries. When I went back to the bathroom I noticed a takeout case which I hadn't been aware they had. Nancy does takeout regularly from them. She told me about a hack she had inadvertently stumbled on for their kale salad. She dislikes kale as much as I do and she found that a minute or two in the microwave 'massages' it so it's good. After we had finished lunch we stopped by and I bought a small container of the kale salad. I also bought a medium size container of their Asian broccoli, a medium size container of their roasted Brussels sprouts and a grilled half artichoke. We were helped by a sweet young man whose name I asked but have now forgotten. He seemed like he took care to choose the best artichoke for me, rejecting the top one for one beneath it. My car took much longer than expected. I headed home after 5:30 and got there a little after 6. I decided to just heat up some of what I had bought. I first heated the kale salad for a minute so it could cool down. I heated the artichoke in the microwave and the Brussels sprouts in a frying pan. I cut the Kelenna's cornbread I had bought yesterday into three pieces and briefly warmed one. I assembled it all on the plate and it made for a marvelous dinner. I was so glad I had it and am looking forward to trying the Asian broccoli. read more

Insalata's is a fantastic restaurant, easily among the strongest in Marin County. Their fattoush salad is in the category of foods I wouldn't be sad about eating every day. However, I'm trying to reserve 5 stars for utter perfection and I would make the following adjustments: less pita, more feta, smaller portion--it might seem weird to gripe about too much food, but the onus is on the restaurant to present the ideal meal experience and this volume is almost comical (it's not really a "save half for lunch tomorrow" kind of place). The appetizers are strong as well though they're a little stingy on the pita bread. All in all, it's a great option for a nice occasion and always delivers in the ways that count. read more
