This is the best Market in the city. My mom came up from So-Cal and was thrilled to find so many amazing goodies for Persian New Year, ingredients to make Persian Food and delicious treats in the store to eat! But what makes this place special is the new-ish owner who is so generous with his time and honest with his suggestions. He will answer all your questions and make you feel like family. I've recently started experimenting with recipes from the Middle East which require a number of ingredients not normally stocked at the chain supermarkets. Jasmine Market has been a great source of those ingredients. Plus their prices are very reasonable. We got a bottle of Aleppo pepper that was twice the size of a bottle online for less than half the cost. The staff has always been very helpful, and has been receptive to stocking new items that they didn't have. This place is a treasure. For those of you who try and avoid the parking lot there, Jasmine Market is at the far end of the shopping center very close to the overflow lot. read more

My review is of the deli. I ordered the beef cutlets, potato salad, dolma, hummus, tabbouleh and Persian baklava. (NOTE: These are not the names that the items had in the display case. These are my name translations.) The beef cutlets were thinly sliced pieces of beef which were coated in something (potato?) and probably pan fried. Before I ate them, I heated them up in a pan with some avocado oil. Unique and tasty. The potato salad was also unique. I think it had pieces of chicken and pickles in it. It is now one of my favorite version of potato salad. The dolmas and tabbouleh were also very good. The Persian baklava was not as crispy or sweet as Greek baklava. They also use walnuts. I prefer Greek style. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I will be back. read more

I'm can't even be considered a novice when it comes to Mediterranean and Persian Markets. There were many items that I didn't recognize by their names nor what they were used for. However, I can tell when a store is clean and organized. And this store is that. One of our favorite things to do when we're able to travel abroad is to visit local markets to see what is on offer, in what quantities and at what prices. Why? Imagine going to a supermarket in Tokyo and paying $200 for a cantaloupe. Expensive? The record for a pair of Yubari King Cantaloupes was $50,000! It gives you insight into how the locals live their everyday lives. So, when we can't travel (most of the time), we like visiting ethnic grocery stores and markets to see what's what. Quite often, the stores have very narrow aisles, are unorganized and have items on the shelves that are past their best used by date. That was not the case in this store. And they didn't seem to mind as we slowly walked up and down the aisles looking at items. If we even find a Mediterranean or Persian recipe where we need specialty ingredient, this will be our go-to. read more

I loved this cute Persian market! The grocery store has pretty much every Mediterranean and Persian ingredient you would need. I grabbed a bottle of Za'atar and am so excited to include it in my cooking. The grocery store also has a grab and go deli style section in the back. My friend and I got the kashke bademjan and ash reshteh. I've never tried these dishes before and absolutely loved them both. They were so warm and had the home cooked feel. Fantastic little Middle Eastern market near Whole Foods and within the Trader Joes shopping center in San Rafael, with all the core ingredients for home chefs who cook Middle Eastern dishes. As a fan of Yotam Ottolenghi's cookbooks, along with his fantastic shops in London, I ended up at Jasmine Market looking for some of the harder to find ingredients I needed to complete his layered recipes: pomegranate molasses, giant jars of turmeric, barberries, harissa, nigella seeds and sumac. Bonus points for halavah (packaged and behind the counter), baklava, rose water, orange water, mint water, all the unique ingredients I can now easily put my fingers on. Nice owner and former Iranian soccer player (great photos over the register) who knows his small shop, can make recommendations, and knows many of his regular customers well. read more

Beware of the Expired Products and foods. Most items without sticker pricing. Moody owner who seems nice at first glance until you need to return any purchased item that was recently purchased as a duplicate (and still in its original package) or had issues with expiry. He takes it very personally and illegally refuses to refund you despite the recent (less than 10 days) purchase of the duplicate unopened item with a receipt showing the recent purchase and it being a duplicate that somehow ended ip in our grocery bag! unfortunate! read more

A friendly, clean, high vibe and family run market in a convenient location, right next to Trader Joe's. The staff were delightful - happy to answer my many questions about the many international products i had never before seen but was curious to try. Local market with all your middle Eastern needs. It's nice living in an area where people like to try food from around the world. Even this little gym that pops up in the Montecito Shopping Center carries a lot of products that you might normally miss in other stores. Like rose flavored ice cream and dried figs from the Middle East and non-sour lemons. One of my favorite things is they have spices that you may not find anywhere else to make your meat rubs and seasoned vegetables with. I do not Reccomend the hot food from this market. Very disappointed of the Gormeh Sabzi and khoresht Karafs. 2 prices of meat in less than 1/2 inch with all fat in each order. Ghormeh Sabzi very greasy and just a few beans. Not any justice to a Persian food. read more

Stay away from this market. We made a $35 purchase, and it contains olive paste for $7. We opened the jar for Sunday morning breakfast. It has mold in it. Two days later I went in just to return the $7 olive paste. The black-bearded person, checked the expiry date before . It's none of my business, I bought it 2 days ago. When he said this, he said why couldn't you take a photo. He does not trust me. I've driven 20 miles just to return the $7 jar for $35 shopping. Just so that someone else should be careful when buying that product. Look at his behavior towards me. Even 1 star is too much. Stay away. read more

They have Turkish delight! And it is delightful. Skip the boxes, get the fresh stuff by the register. There are lots of West Asian groceries here - rose water, orange water and lots of stuff for west Asian cookery. They also have west Asian deli items that I have yet to try. Check out the freezer in the back for ice cream. My favorites are the ice cream sandwiches in rose, saffron, and pomegranate. These ice creams are not overly sweet. The pomegranate has an amazing fruity flavor of just the right strength. read more

Everytime I go they fry eggplant. When I come out my clothes smell frying oil. When I come home people know that I was at Jasmine Market. For you to be able to cook inside you have to have a commercial kitchen and a type 1 hood as well as a grease trap. Fire sprinkler system should also be mandatory. Do you not have those? How did you get a permit from City Health Department and Building Department? Maybe you do have those but being cheap and not using them to save on electricity bill? That's why your back door is always open which is another health code violation cause all the flies and bugs can get in. There is no screen either. Which one? Do you not have a hood or you are not using it? Other then my complaints above this place is extremely expensive. I keep my shopping list very short and only buy few items. There are so many middle eastern markets in San Francisco, South City, San Jose area and Easy Bay selling similar items for lot less. I often buy my kalamata olives, feta cheese, yogurt from Costco. Pistachio, cucumber can also be found at trader joe's or most other places. It would be nice to support them but I don't like greedy business owners. Also, what's up with the tipping option on the credit card machine? Do you think people will buy groceries and leave a tip? Since the prices are high I thought tip was already included. Ohh and then the hidden upselling techniques as if you are at a car dealer. Anyways... I hope my review will help them make some changes with their business practices. read more
