I booked an appointment online, and when I arrived, I walked in and said to the girl near the counter that I had a 4 pm appointment. She replied, okay, said she's coming. A woman approached me and said hi, so I replied I have a 4 pm appointment; she said, what do I want? I said I formerly requested online a cut and perm (it seems strange that before being introduced as whoever she was, she could introduce herself, but that didn't take place the entire time I was there. If it was supposed to be her client, you would think she knew what services I said I made an appointment to get. It's courteous to be introduced and eased in, but that was a backward fail. I don't work in a salon, but I would assume you know the services someone booked online if you were given a client in a salon (I booked the afternoon before). Then I was invited to a chair where I would show pictures of what I would like from my perm (which was a stacked spiral). Upon proceeding, I made it through the rods installed and to the shampoo chair where I would get drenched in water all down my neck and back to do the solution, then neutralize and rinse (which may or may not have been avoidable, I don't know how it happened while I'm laid back in the shampoo bowl, but it did and by a lot). I was given towels beside the one's she had placed. Then she tells me I'm halfway there ("too beautiful," she said, I assume because the rollers were out and the product was rinsed). She sits me up and tells me to go back to the chair (her station). Next thing she comes and starts combing my hair with a fine-tooth comb. . This should not be done ever on permed or curly hair because it causes the curls to break and causes frizz which is the worst thing to happen, and especially minutes after a perm was processed. With permed, you use a wide-toothed comb, but not until 24 hours after a perm. I told her that. She had to borrow a wide-tooth comb from a lady across the room. As if that was still to be used instead at the moment. I don't know if the perm would have been less frizzy or not, had she not used the fine-toothed comb or not, but several times after she went through with the wide-toothed comb, what does she do? She was using the fine-tooth comb again, multiple times and times again. At this point, my knowledge I have seemed not to matter because I put my hair in her unprofessional hands. I didn't know what or how to change what was unprofessionally happening and to my hair. I am not a licensed professional, but I knew these steps weren't supposed to happen. Then she cut and blow-dryed without a diffuser; she didn't have one, I suppose either. Then she asks me when the hair is 40% dry (as in a manner like she is done). "How do I like it?" Omg! Really I said it looks like Ramen noodles and is uneven in the cut. I said I suppose it's not your fault my hair didn't take much curl, but the cut is horrible. I said, what do you do? So, she starts cutting some more. I had to just accept this mess. I am not sure how my hair took the perm is entirely her fault (though her mistakes and lack of care made it worse for sure) or just a product fault (perm solution - I asked her if she was using an alkaline or acid perm, and she proceeded using alkaline on highlighted and lightened colored hair). I do know her lack of know-how and proper care of hair wasn't there. I have read and understand the service given lacked knowledge and best possible results. Even though she still kept positive energy (through multiple mistakes, after it was too late to fix totally, only subtle improvements), I still left her a $20 tip and paid for both services (perm and cut), I don't believe I properly received here at InSignia. I have to advise against her perm skill. Her lack of product to complete the job with ease (wide-toothed comb, hair diffuser, I assume her not having an acid perm, which is recommended for my hair) was a fail, but I'm walking away with my head; down! The experience I described is reviewed so that you may reconsider a likely result! The hairdresser I explained is named Nancy (Vietnamese). I don't dislike her as an individual human being (especially because mistakes can happen, but not from a skilled hairdresser), not because of her personality, but she lacked the skill and care I needed and expected today; as an individual whose confidence and pocket$ were at a lasting loss - BEWARE! Was looking for a Groupon for a cut and color, found Insignia and looked up their stylists. You never know what you will get with a groupon! Found Nancy's Instagram and her work was amazing so I purchased and made an appointment. She is amazing! Very welcoming and asked exactly what I wanted (even asked to see pictures of what I was looking for). My hair had been bleached previously and because I haven't kept up with trimming, was DEAD. They absolutely BOTCHED my hair, THEN when i spoke to the manager she was completely rude and unprofessional. When I asked to speak to the manager about not paying full price the manager talked down to me and harshly tried to negotiate. I asked for a balayage and what i got was highlights that i could have done myself with a box of walmart hair dye. The lady who did my hair was rude and talked to me and my friend like we were stupid. The salon ruined my hair and made me embarrassed to go in public. I used my groupon today which was 55 for 115 worth of hair studios. Excited to find out this place is down the street from my house. Weird location bc the back faces the street. Once I walked in, the salon looked very nice and put together. No one was at the front desk at the time but I said hi to the first person I saw and she was very welcoming. Everyone was very nice and welcoming and they were able to give me hair mags and something to drink. Lee was the woman who did my hair. She seemed quite knowledgable when I showed her bunches of pics that I liked. It was really nice that she knew what I liked and understood it very well. For all that I wanted she explained how she could do it and how much it would be before hand so very considerate. She did a great job and I am happy that I found a great hair place that I'll be happy to go back to. Also there's one barber for men. He has his own spot and the men have their own flat screen to watch while they get cut. I honestly wasn't sure exactly what I needed, but I knew the color I wanted my hair to be and how I wanted my extensions to look. Telsi with Insignia hair salons is one of the most talented beauticians that I have gone to in the Tampa Bay area. Sisters will understand that it is very difficult to find a stylist that is not only highly skilled, but also is also a professional. I have been going to Telsi for over 3 years and not once have I had to wait longer than 5-10 minutes before getting in her chair and I have been out of the salon within 2 hours. As a busy mom with 2 children, I appreciate that I can not only get my hair styled as I like it but I can also do it within a reasonable time frame. they charged me $125 for PARTIAL highlights and lowlights (no cut/blowdry)...I even had the cashier double check and she did and that was the price. Everyone is nice and they're ok at hair (nothing special) but I won't be going back at those prices for that money I'd much rather go to a master stylist somewhere else better. I specifically inquired whether my hair would incur a surcharge for length or thickness, and was never provided with further information - and after that was, in fact, subject to the charge. I consider it unprofessional not to make this disclosure after I had asked for this exact information. Feels underhanded since I had asked before the service was applied. Furthermore, my stylist almost completely ignored me and loudly gossiped about her personal life to her colleagues. She did not attempt to speak with me or ask midway whether I was happy with what she was doing with my hair. She also gossiped about the business of other customers of Insignia Hair Studio. If she openly talks about them behind their backs I'm sure she'll do the same to me. This place is a rip off for what you get. Their prices are rediculous for a mediocre hair salon. I gave the stylist several chances and each time I came home feeling dissappointed. My highlights bled every time. One of girls who does the shampooing was so rude the last time I was there. I kept telling her that b/c I am short the bowl hits the back of my head and hurts. first, she bleached my ends rather than dyeing my whole head of hair. then, she ended up dyeing my roots AFTER dyeing my ends. she said she would give me lowlights in my roots, fading into the ombré, instead, she dyed ALL of my roots, and now they look orange. this absolutely ruined my hair and i'm embarrassed for the lady who did my hair, i don't know her name but she's the chinese lady who usually works at the front desk, i'm assuming. when she washed my hair, she was moving my head around and pulling my hair. she messed up on my hair MULTIPLE times and i kept asking her to fix it and she would be rude, then make my hair look worse than previous. with the ombré of my hair, she still left brown spots on the bottom of my hair, and then got upset when i asked her to fix it. she kept asking me to go outside to look at my hair and say the lighting would be better, but it only looked worse. she was constantly rolling her eyes when i asked her to fix my hair. then when i spoke to the manager about paying not $170 for my orange hair, she was rude & would not lower the price. Please save yourself some time and money. I went for a virgin relaxer. I called in advance, of course, to make an appointment with Telsi. I was told she could perform this process and was confident her skills would be sufficient. Not only was half of my hair left natural, the charge was outrageously expensive for awful service ( the front desk girl did a poor excuse of blowdrying my hair, leaving it in a damp frizz ). Why was she in my hair, you ask? Your guess is as good as mine. And, I too was continuously burned by this infamous flat iron! I'm a basic kind of guy, just need my shampoo and cut. You would think that wouldn't be too remarkable, right? Well, even a simple service like that is remarkable at Insignia. Telsi has been cutting my hair (and occasionally, my beard) for years. It's always good. And the shampoo is great! I have neck issues and Jen really works to make me comfortable in the shampoo bowl, and gives me a great scalp massage that really helps with the pain. Pretty bad experience. My first times going were ok, but will not be returning after the last one. My appointment for hair dye alone ran 4 hours and 45 mins for a job which should have been 2 hours according to my previous stylist out of town. The stylist kept disappearing with no reason, then would be working on other clients, then stop in the middle of doing my hair just to chat with coworkers. Not only was this unprofessional, but was extremely rough with my hair and sensitive head, pulling out my hair and very rough when washing hair...I have always Identified going to the salon with a relaxing experience.
