The smell of the cookies hit me as soon as the door opened. I walked right in and someone came quickly from the back to take my order. They were patient with me as I figured out what I wanted. I wanted to try the two featured flavors, berry hibiscus and lemon poppy seed but they were out of the berry hibiscus. The lemon poppy seed was bigger than the other classic cookies I chose. All of the cookies I ordered are in one of the attached pictures. They were soft and warm. The flavors were right on. They were all out of ice cream so I didn't get to try it. Instead he lectured me about how busy he is and how things work around there. Most recently,however, the cookies that were delivered looked like they should have been rejects-- the cookies were of various sizes (some just half as big as others) and a number were badly shaped (ie nowhere near round). I had never heard of Insomnia Cookies before I came to East Lansing, so I was completely unaware that they are a franchise. Husband's co-worker is a big fan of these, and repeatedly recommended to him to check it out. We finally got our chance recently, and I enjoyed them, but I wasn't all that crazy about them either. Don't get me wrong, they were good cookies. They tasted great, though a bit too sweet for us (especially the S'mores deluxe cookie, but the Snickerdoodle was better). I liked that their novelty is a simple one - served fresh and warm out of the oven, and they deliver to all the starving college students and patrons alike until 3am! However, that's pretty much where the brand has its point of difference. For two cookies, we spent around $5 after taxes, and they weren't even that big (probably about 3"-4" in diameter). It's not like that they use inventive techniques or special ingredients to warrant the price, so I didn't think it was really worth it. Also, not like it pertains to me, but what about the gluten sensitive individuals? It would be such a huge bummer if you were at a party and everybody was munching away, and you couldn't just because they didn't offer it. I'd still come here if I were in the area for an occasion treat, but it's not something I'd come out of my way for. Next time, we'd probably stick with 1 cookie and split it. Alright, I'm fair. I'm really fair. But this place earns a 5 stars. The girl working behind the counter, yeah, the blonde one, she was cool. Really cute too. I left her a tip. I figured because the line was out the door, I wasn't going to get my cookie warm, or the ice cream would start to melt before I received it. But no. The cookie was warm asf, the ice cream hadn't melted yet, and I got it in less than a minute. I was thoroughly impressed.
