As per driving by I stopped here In my 1986 Ranger a couple months ago. I went to three other places, one was my usual recent place in Berkeley. And all three of the places gave me a run around. This place knew exactly what to do and smoged my truck. They play it straight by the books. I was happy to find somebody that knew what they were doing. Came back again today to smog my Volkswagen. No issues. Technician knew exactly what to do. And my vehicle pass smog. I can see where sometimes smog shops get hassled by customers. I respect the fact that the shops are really scrutinized by the state and had to do things properly. So go easy on the small guys. If for some reason you don't like the smog shop in general check out another one. But I'm pretty happy here and I'll be coming back in 2 years. read more

Called and found it it's first come first served. The owner was really nice. I parked across not sure I was supposed to pull up. Then another car drove in and he told the other customer I came first. Insta Smog wasn't a first choice. many that i tried weren't open or the technicians weren't in. Insta Smog is behind the oil change place. they are relatively new. cost: (51.75-61.75) -cost depends on type of vehicle -arrived when the technician on duty wasn't busy -in & out in 10 minutes notes: -facilitities clean, no debris lying around -cars backed up from the oil change place a minor hindrance to exiting. -across from walmart. read more

I took my 2006 Impala to Insta Smog (first time STAR station test required) to get it smog checked. He couldn't read the EO# on the catalytic converter. I bought a new, direct fit cat and had it installed at a muffler shop. This cat is the correct EO# and correct for the engine family that's in the car. Took it back to Insta Smog and he says he still can not read the complete EO#. Well I went home and with my mirror and flash light I could read this number without any problem. I do not know what this guy's problem is, but he must just be lazy or incompetent. I will give him a half star for not failing my car. He just aborted the inspection, so that was nice of him. I advise going anywhere except this dive! UPDATE 6/8/20: I took my car to another STAR station today. It passed without a problem. And there was no problem reading the EO# on the cat. Please avoid this Insta Smog dive! read more

I waited to the last minute to get my car smoged and didn't realize it needed the STAR station only. Found Insta Smog via google search. I called, the gentleman was very nice told me first come, first served so off I went. I arrived, he was just finishing up with another customer but greeted me with a smile. He asked a few questions before the smog, just to make sure there would be no surprises. I was in and out in 10 minutes! (I did go on a Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.) The first review comments on the price being to expensive. I think they are CONFUSED.... lol ... $41.00 + the Cert fee $50.00 out the door. Other places were charging $40.00 - $60.00 plus cert fee. T his was a great deal for $50.00, great customer service, conveniently located right on Hesperian Blvd. across from Walmart, and done in a few minutes. read more

This was the best, easiest, fast, and most efficient smog test I have had done! I pulled in and was done in about 5 minutes, I didn't even have to get out of the car,the manager KO was absoloutly fantastic, he was friendly and welcoming! I usually don't write a bad review until I think it is necessary to warn others about this smog check station. I think this guy is a total jerk. He is not very friendly when you ask him questions about your car which relates to the smog check. He will treat you like an idiot with no respect. If your car is old, please do not bring into this shop. He hate old car because it required extra test. He will find anyways to make your car fail. According to my knowledge, the star certified station has to have certain (fail/not pass) rate in order to keep it license. If they pass every car, the board might review their business and take the license away. Since this shop is slow, I think he needs to fail few cars. I used this station because $5 cheaper, but not worth it. I know smog test only station not allows to fix your vehicle if it is fail. But, at least they can find another legal way to make it pass, like running your car longer to make the engine warm before doing the test. They can also suggest what things you can do to your car before the test, so you can pass the smog check. But not this guy, he just wants your car to fail the test so you can come back for a $30 retest (not free) like other station. read more

This is the first review I every have done. When I pulled up at 2:30pm the guy acted like I was bothering him. Then I told him I didn't have my paperwork from DMV. He then says he can't do it with paperwork. I knew this was incorrect because I'm a tech at a dealership and all he has to do in put in my vin# and license plate and he could have done it. It's an older truck so I have to take it to a test only center but will never go back or recommend this place. To be doing a service that we are required to to he could have been nicer and more helpful to his customers but getting that subsidized money running a test only center must be the only money he wants. read more

This place is super convenient for me because it's so close to my house and it's right by where I get my oil changes done. The guy that works here is really nice and helpful. No wait time on a Monday morning. I also think the price is great no coupons, no haggling. read more

Took my old 81 Ford station wagon there. The technician was very thorough, but had trouble finding the charcoal canister - no problem, eventually he found it and everything went fine. At $40 out the door, Insta Smog was the lowest priced smog station for my old car :) Would definitely recommend it to a friend! read more

My dad suggested this place for me. I brought my 2010 BMW 528 for a smog test and I was out the door pretty quickly. Keo was super nice, courteous, and professional and willing to explain things to me when I had questions. The shop itself is a lot more roomy and comfortable than other smog shops. It's a bit out of the way for me but I'm willing to go this far for good service. read more

I failed my first smog here and they told me it would be $20 for a retest when I came back. When I came back I was charged $50 because apparently you have to bring it back within a month, otherwise you pay full price. Don't waste your time here, there's better and cheaper places like North American Motors in Oakland read more
