Dr. Mills and her team love animals and it shows. Dr. Mills and her team have been so great for our "little monster" who became a sweet and healthy boy through our continued and combined efforts. It was our first time with an integrative veterinarian, and it was a wonderful holistic journey that helped us to think outside the box as far as health and happiness of our good boy. Dr. Mills is very generous with her time and explains things very thoroughly with lots of great suggestions for everything from weight loss to dog training. We were helped with understanding how to get our very strong personality boy to become the boy whom we love today. The team at the front of the office handles appointments, answers questions, and processes records and checkout with efficiency and kindness. This is the same for the back end of the pharmacy who fill prescriptions quickly and accurately or the technicians who take back one's furry loved one for blood tests, vaccines, or nail trims in a kind manner to avoid stress. Both pups and people alike are treated with respect and are allowed to be an active partner with this practice. Our boy developed idiopathic epilepsy prior to turning four which necessitated Dr. Mills to refer us to the neurologist Dr. Erik Johnson, co-founder of NeuroVet in Pleasant Hill, CA. We continued with Dr. Mills for all things unrelated to neurology and she remained interested in his seizure progress. Prior to moving to a new state, we had a battery of tests and vaccines to ensure that we had the best possible care before having to search for a new veterinarian in our area. Dr. Mills was able to help us out of a bind from afar that was very much appreciated and for which we are eternally grateful. I haven't been here physically however I was referred here by a coworker for my dog who has a constant ear infection. I called and asked if they are taking new patients. After having a discussion and expressing my concerns, the receptionist said they will call my vet get the records and will call me in about 2 days. After a couple of days, she called and said the doctor reviewed the records and at this time suggest seeing a dermatologist for the allergies. She then gave me a list of names. I loved the fact that they didn't want me to come in for an office visit just to take my money. I feel like many places will ask us to come in for 10 min to charge a hefty diagnostic fee. In my last review, while I was mostly positive, I was a bit of a skeptic of the unusual medications prescribed but since then, the dogs have really responded to the preventive meds. Like REALLY responded. I considered my older dog to be geriatric but now she has a lot of energy. Went for a hard and hilly 6 mile hike the other day and she did great, which didn't happen 6 months ago, when I had to help her into the back seat of the card and bought a step stool for her to get up in the bed. Now she hops right in/up. With room to spare. I consider her mid-career now. Like a human 70 year old suddenly running around with the energy of a 40 year old. She ain't no spring chicken, but she's back on top of the hill, not over it. And the traumatized little rescue is acting like the happy-go- lucky puppy she should be. Do not trust this Vet with your dogs life. My friend was caring for my newly acquired young recue dog after she did neutering surgery for him. I live in the Bay Area and she was the one vet that had an opening for this surgery. The dog was in a traumatized, confused and medicated state after surgery and snapped at my friend when she tried to put the protective collar on him. My friend then deemed my dog dangerous and took him, without my consent to dr mills to be put down and Dr Mills euthanized my dog without my consent or contacting me. She is extremely unethical and irresponsible and a danger to defenseless animals. read more

We have been growing increasingly disappointed in Dr. Mills. We have been customers here for almost 15 years and have spent thousands of dollars in her office. The prices for services and products have been increasing. Upon the last several visits they have been trying to charge us for additional items along with our prescription medications without consulting us. Today, we took our dog for his appointment and were just under 15 minutes late due to unexpected traffic. Dr. Mills wound not see our dog who has a recurring infection that needs attention nor would she prescribe his repeated antibiotic to clear up the infection. They then tried to charge us for a missed appointment. What is funny about that is when we have an appointment we typically have to wait a minimum of 15 minutes and sometimes up to 30 minutes to see the doctor. When we voiced our frustration her receptionist went back to discuss the matter with Dr. Mills. She returned to say we could leave the dog and pick him up later. When we asked if we could discuss this matter with Dr. Mills, her receptionist went back to talk to her again about our situation. When the receptionist returned she told us Dr. Mills wasn't in the office. It seems not only are they stuggling with customer satisfaction issues but also with honesty. So much for appreciating long term, repeat clients. read more

This review is long overdue. When I asked around for recommendations for a veterinarian when I moved back to the Bay Area, I kept getting the same answer, Dr. Mills. It was uncanny. However, due to past poor experiences with holistic veterinarians, I was hesitant. Finally, after the millionth recommendation, I decided to give Dr. Mills a try. I am so glad that I did. She significantly increased my chronically ill senior dog's quality of life within a few short months of seeing her. His coat became shiny, his energy increased, and he was a more active and comfortable dog. But the amazing thing was, while yes, we did a good bit of acupuncture and herbs, a lot of that was achieved through Western medicine. Dr. Mills is truly INTEGRATIVE. She recommends the solutions she thinks are best, and draws from both Western and Eastern medicine to find the right fit for what you and your dog need. Never did she make him suffer in order to try out a holistic remedy. She always made sure he was medically cared for, and then provided holistic solutions as added benefit. In the last year, my dog has been the happiest and healthiest I've seen him since he was a much younger dog. But the greatest gift Dr. Mills gave us, was the most beautiful and peaceful goodbye when it was my dog's time to pass. She was extremely responsive when I called the office, and gave compassionate and honest advice. When it was his time, she rearranged her schedule so that he would not have to wait and suffer, and so that he could go in the way that was best for him. She was patient and incredibly kind. I have been taking my pets to Integrative Veterinary Care for almost 20 years and can't say enough on how much I appreciate the great care both my pets and I receive. Recently my one dog was suffering from back spasms and was in great pain. The office staff ensured that we could get in right away as I was certain he had hurt his back somehow. Dr. Mills is the most amazing veterinarian and animal lover I've ever known! We took our bunny to her back in December and he had an absess on his nose. She prescribed some medicine and it helped our bunny stay alive 3 months longer than expected. We were going to give him to Dr. Mills back in January and she was willing to take him. We changed our mind and decided to keep him and take him to UC Davis based on her referral. After learning he had infections beyond repair and that thousands of dollars is what it would take to maybe make him better, we decided to call Dr. Mills again to see if she would still take him in. After reading many of these reviews I am not surprised to report the same findings. This veterinarian may be exceptional (I will never know) but her practice will continue to suffer due to lack of timeliness and communication. Regardless of the fact that she is a solo practitioner, I have no idea how she maintains a business with no sense of professionalism. I assume that this vet is often referred for difficult to address concerns, concerns that typically are very uncomfortable for an animal and causing stress and worry for its owner. My dog and I were not willing to wait the three weeks it would have taken for Dr. Mills to review her charts, make an appointment and finally be seen. I'm sure she would have had great insight, but we got into our regular vet for a next-day appointment before anyone from Dr. Mills' office even returned our request for an appointment. Perhaps if you have routine vaccinations Dr. Mills might be perfect for you -- but then why go out of the way to see a holistic vet who people claim can deal with even the most complicated diagnosis? A sixth-grader might advise her to at least inform people how long the process can be to get an appointment but even then it might not be the best timeline for your pet who needs to be seen and treated much sooner. read more

I'm not sure if the staff keeps the vet isolated or if she chooses not to call back. I've spent over a thousand dollars and have yet to get a call back. My pets have received excellent care from Dr. Mills. It is too bad that they have not figured out how to take care of the pet owners! Especially in the last ~2 years I have seen the customer service go way down. No one answers the phone and you have to leave a message-- which may not get returned in a timely manner. The office closes randomly without warning and no mention of it on their answering machine. It is difficult to get appointments and their hours are very limited and inconvenient for working people. To top it all off the prices have gone WAY UP since I started going here 9 years ago. I mean WAY UP. You can expect to pay absolute top dollor for everything, without any warning up front about how much services cost or any discussion of lower cost options. I just called to say D, who has had kidney issues in the past, is "leaking" and laying in puddles of urine. They told me they could get us in on Thursday (it's Monday!) Time for a new vet. I have been going to Dr. MIlls for the last 3.5 years. She is by far the most amazing veterinarian I have ever seen. She employes not only mainstream medicine, but alternative (herbs, acupuncture, chiropractic) as well. My dogs have had surgeries there, teeth pulled, in addition to regular vaccinations and well checks. Although I've read reviews talking about how expensive they are, they are actually quite competative. Their staff is friendly, thorough, CARING, and will do anything and everything to accomodate you. The office is clean, well organized, and for as much as I've been in there I've never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes. Now, for Dr. Mills. She is AMAZING. This is a woman who cares deeply for her furry patients. She gets on the floor, will talk with you while waiting for the animal to come to her. She creates a stress free environment for your pet and is happy to spend time answering any and all questions you may have. I have never felt rushed. My youngest dog (2 years old) has had to have two major surgeries on both legs for luxating patella, the latest just today. I am happy to recommend this veterinary office as one of the best I have seen! I worked with vets and shelters before I became a 1st-3rd grade teacher and I am very impressed with this place. Like I mentioned, I am an elementary teacher at a Montessori school. Part of the curriculum is that we should, at this age level, have many loved classroom pets that the children care for under supervision of the instructors. This year we have two rats among our menagerie of animals, and a few months ago, one developed a tumor on her side. Dr. Mills came to my classroom, took a look at our little friend, and immediately booked an appointment to have the tumor removed. When I went to the desk to pay the bill, there was not one. Dr. Mills did the exam, surgery, anasthesia and medication all at no cost because the little rat was a classroom pet!, (and she knows that teachers generally cannot fund rat surgeries!!!). When I thought it was all over, the OTHER rat fell ill over the winter break. Again, she took in my little friend and gave her the best care. I insisted that this time I would pay for it, but they are still giving me a break on the bill! Both times, I received a phone call at home from Dr. Mills herself, clearly explaining what the diagnosis and treatment options were. A lot of people had the attitude that it was "just a rat", but these rats are important to 29 school children who work hard to care for them, and learn a lot from doing so. Dr. Mills understood this, and now I have two happy rats (one is still recovering). I am so impressed that I will be bringing my dog there the next time she needs to be seen for a check-up. Dr mills has a genuine passion for the wellness of animals. My boyfriend and I got a cavalier puppy together and were fairly new at dog ownership and dr mills has been there, literally, every step of the way. Even before I purchased the puppy, she warned me of the possible complications with the breed so I could better choose a breeder-- and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. She also mentioned a website called "muttsville", who has older dogs for adoption. In the future I plan on using that website. I recommend making an appointment to talk to her before hand and make the right decision about purchase or adoption, they might know the perfect pet for you currently being fostered. My cavalier has had a couple rough patches during puppyhood and dr mills has been incredibly knowledgable with everything I've brought up to her (and I have had MANY questions). She knows all the tips and tricks, which is nice for a new puppy owner who knows nothing. The vet techs are incredibly nice. Sarah and Alicia were incredibly helpful with my difficult scheduling. And I want to mention she does practice both eastern and western medicine! Our 9-year-old bunny suddenly became quite ill. I searched high and low for a local vet who treats rabbits, and Dr Mills was the only one. Much to our surprise, our poor bunny had broken her back (not uncommon for rabbits). Dr. Mills very compassionately explained in great detail what was wrong with the bunny and how her broken back had contributed to a number of other issues the bunny had been having. We were shocked, to say the least, since we had no idea she'd hurt herself. Dr. Mills said with constant, daily care and meds she might have another 6 months to live. Dr. Mills was fully prepared to help us with the care but was also honest with us about euthanizing our bunny. After much thought and discussion, we made the heart-rending decision to say goodbye to our sweet rabbit. Prior to going to Dr Mills, I'd contacted the local rabbit rescue group for vet recommendations. The ones they suggested either had stopped taking new patients or were too far away. When I said we were going to Dr Mills, the rabbit rescue person told me to keep looking for another vet. She didn't say why. But having experienced Dr. Mills' thorough, compassionate, and knowledgeable dealings with our beloved bunny, I don't understand the rabbit rescue lady's reluctance. I highly recommend Dr. Mills if you have a rabbit that needs medical attention. She has had rabbits herself and knows them very well. read more

I just love this vet and her staff. Dr. Brenda really cares about your pet, but she's practical too. She uses traditional and holistic medicines to treat your pet, so she really thinks about what is best. Instead of putting your pet on a cold table, she has a rug on the ground and she gets right down on the floor with your pet to examine. The staff is friendly and helpful. First of all, Debbie M., EVERYTHING has drastically gone up in the past 9 years, EVERYTHING! I have 3 dogs with differnt issues and ALL have been taken care of as if they were their own. One is an active agility dog, one a 13 yr old on a pace maker and the other a rescue dog who originally came to me as a Hospice dog. When my agility dog hurt himself on a week-end, Dr. Mills had me in her office first thing Monday morning to see a Chiropractor, my dog was walking and running again in a few hours. The dog who came to me as a hospice dog, is no longer considered a hospice dog and is running and playing with my other dogs - Dr. Mills has gone way beyond the call of duty in helping me get this dog to his optimum health. I just lost my 13 yr old dog recently and never saw a more compassionate team than the one in Dr. Mills office. Before the decision was made to have her put down, Dr. Mills called me several timesat home (after hours) to see how she was doing. During her last illness, there were several times I brought my girl into her office and because of the serious nature, I did not have to wait long if at all. NOTE: there have been times when I have brought my other dogs in for a routine or non critical visit and had to wait a bit because an emergency had come up - I am more than happy to wait, because I know I would be extended the same courtesy if one of my dogs were in a critical situation. Yes, the practice is closed sometimes during the week, but their hours are posted on their web-site and an emergency # and address are given on their answering machine. My dogs and their well-being are extremely important to me - I left another practice in Livermore who was less expensive, yet who I felt did not give my dogs the care or respect that my dogs deserved - they couldn't even remember my dog's name! And more times than not, the person who answered the phone there, acted like you were putting them out when you called! Every person that I have referred to Dr. Mills (and there have been many) has happily thanked me for the referrel. read more

My sister and I took our Pit Bull to Dr. Mills on Wednesday for a problem she was having on her paws. We had taken her to another vet and that vet said that she had foxtails and they wanted to put her under. Something was telling us that it wasn't foxtails. They were more sores and were obviously infected, but what caused them to get infected??? So we decided not to do that. We found Dr Mills and she said its def. not foxtails and she thinks it some sort of an allergy and gave us some pills, plus an antibiotic/probiotic to start with and then if that didnt work we would go from there. We have another appt. next week to check her. Nala's paws have been looking a lot better though. She took her time with us and didnt make us feel rushed like she needed to move on to the next. We asked a bunch of questions and she answered all of them. She also treated my Pit like she would any other dog. I know some vets aren't Pit friendly, but she is! I would highly suggest taking your animal to Livermore Country Pet Hospital. Her staff is also super friendly! read more

Thank you Dr. Mills for helping my sick chicken! She puts the animal's health first and was willing to treat an abscess on my chicken's face. When my girl still had a problem a week after the first procedure she worked with me to keep costs down and make my girl better. She is knowledgeable and cares about your pet. On the downside, when I called the office, I was often on hold for over 10 minutes. My first impression was that the doctor was not a people person and I was left standing at the desk several times while the receptionist ran back and forth with my questions and concerns. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Mills and her staff. Last October our five year old Labrador was diagnosed with liver fibrosis caused by copper storage disease. This is a very rare disease and liver fibrosis has a very poor prognosis. After diagnosis Dr. Mills came up with a treatment plan and has helped us through managing side effects of the medicines and symptoms of the disease. We're now six months out from the diagnosis and our dog is doing great. In regards to some of the other reviews, in animals, and in medicine, sometimes things don't go as planned and might take more time, or sometimes and individual needs urgent care making the veterinarian late to next appointment or needing to reschedule. When your pet needs the urgent care or special attention, you'll be glad to have it, even if you had to wait extra the last time you were there. Dr. Mills is an excellent vet who won't up sell every product or service there is, she'll simply do the best for your pet. read more

Dr. Mills is the most thorough and genuine vet I have ever been to. I own a ranch and have three dogs, tow horses, & two cats. One of my dogs was poisoned by squirrel bate and my new puppy ate wood chips (animal bedding) and currently has an obstruction. She has monitored him for three days now (non-consecutive) and the entire staff is patient with all my phone calls and she allows as much home care as is safe for the animal to save on cost. She is also reluctant about jumping into an expensive surgery and doing everything in her power to avoid it if possible. She did the same for my older dog that was poisoned. Despite the outcome of my poor puppy, I know I made the right decision by choosing her and sending all my animals to her. She spends ample time and explains everything and gives excellent advice. Thank you Dr. Mills. You are the BEST vet I have ever been to and I hope my little Willie pulls through! I should have guessed. UC Davis vets are the BEST. Go Aggies! :-) read more
