If I could give 100 stars, I would. But I can tell my story and I hope that the management recognizes the staff who helped me that day, because they exhibited compassion, kindness, and truly supported my family and I when we worked to save 2 abused pups and afford them relief from horrid circumstances. We have shopped at Pet Food Express for at least 20 years. The Livermore location is our "go to" store. The person who has consistently helped me the most over the years is Linda. She is knowledgeable, offers informed opinions, is perpetually polite and positive, and she understands dogs. Fortunately, she still works part time there and I always look for her when I go and the reason I shop there for my many rescues. I spend a lot of time and money there. The long story short: I picked up two 8 month old siblings from Bakersfield from a foster situation who needed a new situation. I did not expect to find two filthy puppies, weak, dehydrated, emaciated, terrified, and covered with fleas and ticks. When I say ticks, I mean at least a thousand on each dog! I drove to Livermore as fast as I could to my usual Pet Food Express hoping to find Linda working. My luckiest day! She was there. My husband met me to help manage the situation. I bought 4 tokens, an excellent brand of flea/tick shampoo, and treats. I knew this was going to be stressful for the pups ( who never were exposed to anything new, were exhausted, and overwhelmed I'm sure). Without Linda's positivity, support, constant check ins for more towels/an extra hand/ encouragement, photo documentation, and communication I'm not sure we would have accomplished relieving those two pups of the misery they were in. I'm posting just a few photos so you can grasp the situation and I can tell you, not everyone is cut out to help abused dogs but Linda- she is a gift. The photos reflect just how many ticks were between their toes, in their ears, attached to the anus, between the pads, clustered all over these poor babies. We pulled dead ticks off for days ( my husband is a retired surgeon). I'm going back today for a second bath and to treat their bone dry fur and skin. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Linda. The manager, Phil, definitely supported Linda while she helped us. Not many businesses would do that except one committed to animal welfare and supporting their customers and staff. Thank you, Pet Food Express. Linda deserves Employee of the Year(s) and thank you for employing people like Phil. If you read this, look for Linda and recognize her when you stop by the store. So I was down to my last poo bag for my dog Lola and wrote myself a note to stop at Pet Food Express to pick up a supply of bags. I usually shop at the store in Pleasanton but decided to stop by the Livermore store on the way home from work. Wow! What a pleasant surprise. This store is really nice. Very clean and organized. Great products. The self service dog wash area is really nice too. Staff was much friendlier than I experience at the Pleasanton store. read more

One of the Managers at the Livermore Store, Phil by name, ended up being VERY helpful to me in finding a transaction solution that worked both for me, the customer, and 'The Company'. I gotta say too that the policy restrictions on quantity volume purchases as are currently in-place and that were described to me are NOT customer-centric. If the amount if product is unavailable for that day's in-Store purchase in the requested pack size, the damn POLICY should include the Store Managers having the decision flexibility to be creative on how to still honor a "fourth bag free" if they do not have the four bags in stock. And this is not a one-off either... it happens probably 25% of the times that I go in and it gets frustrating indeed. The root problem is they keep precious little floor-stock inventory "on the floor" AND they are completely inflexible in finding a creative solution there in-store. This is a problem of their own making, clearly promulgated by Corporate Bean Counters ensconced in "just in-time" product delivery resulting in minimal inventory at store-level. So, this situation happened again yesterday where they only had one bag and I wanted to "buy three and get the fourth one free". Phil started out telling all the "corporate reasons" why he was unable to help me, that it is corporate policy dontcha know..? After some lively negotiating and conversation, Phil took it upon himself to find a way to make it work. And whilst it did require me to return to the store today, I am very pleased that Phil very kindly went to the Pleasanton store and brought the additional three bags so I could get this " fourth bag free". Thank you VERY MUCH, Phil! While I KNOW your Corporate policies suck, YOU yourself came up with a way to help me even though it also meant you had to make an extra stop on your way in to work today to help me get my "fourth bag free". Please accept my gratitude, Phil! And also PLEASE change these un-customer-centric policies. As a retail outlet, it seems to me your Corporate Overlords SHOULD BE making sure that business is done both for profit but also for the CONVENIENCE of your customer base. We love Pet Food Express! after a day of hiking in Livermore in the pouring rain for the "Hike for Hope Event" our dog was muddy and needed a bath badly. We remembered that they have a pet washing station so on we went. The sweet girl working the dog washing station went over everything with us and it was simple to operate and our son loved joining in on the fun. After washing/blow drying he was a new dog. Having moved recently to the Central Valley this is the nearest location to us. We enjoy Pet Food Express for their purchase deals. One promotion they always have is purchasing cat litter; buy three get the fourth FREE! So we stock up when purchasing The World's best Cat Litter. I was excited to see they started carrying The Honest Kitchen wet food for cats. They only have the minced food options, but our local pet store only offers dog formulas. With wet food the same promotion applies to getting the fourth free. We grabbed a few for our cats. The employees were welcoming and attentive. This review is LONG overdue. I've been visiting this location to purchase wellness and food nutrition items for my two dogs for the past 2-3 years now almost on a weekly basis. They never gave me a hard time for an item not working out or forgetting my receipt for a return. Most, if not all, of the staff there probably had multiple encounters helping me with choosing a dog food for my 17 y/o Bichon that is a picky eater or my 2 y/o Cocker Spaniel with skin allergy problems. Specifically, I want to share about my experience today. One of the store associate, Linda, offered to help me find something appropriate for my Bichon. Through casual conversations, she learned that my Bichon is 17 y/o with GI issues. We went over several food brands like JFFD, Small Batch, Open Farm, Stella & Chewy and eventually we decided on a brand called Primal. She also recommended a holistic veterinarian in town. Just WOW. I was floored. I've never had anyone so willing to help me. From one pet parent to another, it's stressful enough if you have an elderly dog going through comfort care at home, but Linda made this process so smooth and effortless that it left me feeling teary eyed after getting into my car. Short and simple: ~ All staff wearing masks, and signs all around practicing social distancing. How RESPECTFUL! ~ It was my 'il Nana's 91st birthday, so I wanted to get her a treat and some new toys to celebrate. Someone told me this place has birthday cakes for dogs, so I had to inquired. But I guess due to covid they've reduced the amount of non-essential inventory. UNDERSTANDABLE. ~ As I entered the store, I was helped immediately by Linda. She was super excited when I had mentioned the birthday that she took me to the birthday section. SWEET! ~ I made a few cookie and toy selections and thought I was on my way out. Until I inquired about food for senior dogs. Again, Linda helped me out and was super knowledgeable about the ingredients, as well as her own personal experience with certain brands. Nice knowledgeable personnel. Dog bath feature is a definite plus. My problem is they wouldn't reimburse me for a bag of dog food I bought from them. I had the receipt, but because the food was no longer in the bag it was packaged in, they refused payment. My dog apparently had a reaction to it, vomiting and excessive itching. We keep our dog food in our kitchen pantry in a plastic container. So, not so sold on this business. read more

Today my husband and I went in looking for a particular brand of food for our dog. It's becoming harder to find and the store finder website said they carried it. As we were looking around we noticed they didn't have it, but Ashley came up and asked if we needed help finding anything. We asked if they carried that brand of food and they didn't. But while we were there I asked her recommendation on a cleaner kibble for dogs. I forgot to mention, but she asked me if we wanted anything in particular for the food, like if it needed to be grain free. I said yes, I completely forgot so glad she asked that. Ashley showed us some brands that she recommended for grain free and that are clean. She was very knowledgeable on the products and could tell us a lot about each one. I then asked her about bones for aggressive chewers that didn't have raw hide, she showed us some excellent options for those as well. She even mentioned using pumpkin when transitioning food in case our dog's stomach became upset. Which I didn't think about since she's been on the same food for 4 years. I lastly told her about our concern with our dog's joints since she struggles to jump on the couch sometimes and will randomly limp. I didn't realize the store had a large selection of hip and joint supplements, but she told us about one she recommended. We ended up going with everything she recommended for us, a new bag of food, the pumpkin for transitioning, some bones and the joint supplement. While transitioning my dog on her new food seems a little daunting, I'm super excited and confident that she'll love it and it will be a good transition in the long run. I've been to this store many times and I have always left with a good feeling. The customer service I experience here is outstanding. The store is kept clean and smells good. The staff is knowledgeable and always points me in the right direction when I'm looking for a certain product. In my trip to the store today, Linda and Gillian were extremely helpful. They were so helpful that I felt compelled to write this review. Both had knowledge in the products and spent time answering my questions while helping other customers on a busy Friday night. This place is the best. It's smaller than big corporations like petco or petsmart. Yet they always seem to have everything I need! Customer service is always outstanding. Every time you come in you are greeted, and within the first 30 seconds, someone is around to ask if you need help looking for anything. I've even been helped out to my car with heavy items. This is something that the big stores I've been to just don't offer. They also have a great buy 3 get 1 free deal for many items. I just came from this store was in there for less than 2 minutes and was rudely pestered by an extremely ungroomed employee, Obviously grooming and maintained hygiene appearance is not employee protocol. The employee kept telling me I had to have my dog leashed, which is understandable if that is a rule. I explained to the employee that he has an electric leash on and he is a service dog, And I was just looking for a dog treat like a pig ear real quick. The employee was rude, acted like he couldn't hear anything I was saying and just kept telling me the dog needs a leash. I've lived in Livermore for 12 years and do not expect to be treated like that By any employee from any business. Just a shout out to the folks at PFE - My two small dogs eat the best quality food but recently they started eating grass!! It was driving me mad - I asked the lady who (so sorry) I can't remember the name of - she has dark short hair and is quite young. She recommended solid gold sea meal and hey presto after literally 2 days they stopped eating grass. I really value the service and ethics (they don't sell dog foods that have been invasively tested on dogs) in Pet Food Express which I feel is lacking in other pet stores. Disclaimer: I don't currently have any pets. I had a poodle for 17 years named Cindy but she died several years ago. I popped in to Pet Food Express in the hopes of purchasing a miracle product that would eliminate the cat urine stench from the carpets of our new house. Thanks a lot, previous tenants! I figured I would wander aimlessly around the store, but that was until Jessica swooped in. Man, was she knowledgeable! Complete rundown on every product. I was very impressed. There were plenty of dogs in the store which I expected. I did get a little scared when I witnessed a near doggy beat down. Thankfully the owners held on tight to those leashes. I ended up purchasing an environmentally friendly spray. So far it seems to have cleared up some of the smell and I will use it religiously until I can finally breath without wanting to barf. read more

Always so helpful and knowledgeable. My cat was being goofy and couldn't hang with the good cat food we were already getting her. Blame it on the idiopathic cystitis, diagnosed by the vet. So when I came in to PFE to see what they recommended as a better food, I was told about the grain-free cat food options. They pointed me towards 3 options, and recommended lots of tricks and tips to make an easier transition. More things than I would have considered to be an issue. I totally appreciate all the info, because I was a little concerned about freeze dried cat food and the hassle of it all. It was a much easier transition than I made it out to be in my mind and both of my cats are doing well with the new food. This is the Nordstrom of pet supply stores! When you walk in the staff acknowledge you and are super friendly and helpful! A few months ago we got two bengal kittens that were clawing and they suggested the sticky paws and pet corrector and they both worked like a charm! The other day I needed a Suitical recovery suit for our kitty after being spayed and they had it whereas the other pet store in town took forever to answer the phone and didn't carry it. The guy that helped me at PFE let us try the suit on our cat in the office and just went above and beyond for us. My 7 year old daughter said "he was really nice, we should drive across town every time we need pet supplies." I agree...never shopping for pet supplies anywhere else!
