I have extremely frizzy hair that goes crazy the moment I step outside in the Washington rain/humidity no matter how much I style/hairspray/oil my hair. I have never done treatments because I was not sure how well they would work and they are pretty expensive. I decided to give it a try and was looking up salons that did hair treatments for frizzy hair when I found the Cezanne treatment. I booked an appointment and had Cesar as my stylist and he was amazing! Cesar was extremely friendly and made the long appointment go by fast. I did the treatment a few weeks ago and it has changed my life, my hair is so much smoother and I can just air dry my hair rather than spend hours styling it. I booked Cesar for a mini highlight and it was a mistake . He was 15 min late to seat to me. I wanted to look like I've been trying and it would be a while before I needed my hair highlighted again. My usual hair technician wasn't available during the week A last-minute event popped up. Is there a better reason for a mini highlight? I happen to work out so I showed up with clean damp hair and he was appalled. He said he was uncomfortable especially on wet hair. I'm not really sure if damp hair should be treated like an impossibility to a hairstylist. My regular technician will accommodate me. I wish I never called them. read more

Alex at Intermezzo is amazing!!! I've seen her twice now to do my hair - full blonde balayage and cut. She always does a great job, and is super nice and fun to talk to! It's hard to find a place these days for women's hair that isn't incredibly expensive, and I feel like Intermezzo does a great job at balancing that and offering a ton of services for whatever you need that are fairly priced. My husband recently purchased a gift card from Intermezzo based off of the package he saw online. I was very excited because I've been wrapped up in the mom life and haven't made time to do my hair or do anything relaxing. I initially spoke with the owner, Jeremy, who let me know that the spa packages online were not up to date and he kindly helped me schedule other services for a same day service. I chose to get my hair colored and a facial. I've never received a facial before and Tosha was amazing. She was super nice and made sure my first experience did not disappoint. She was so kind. The stars here do NOT reflect her at all. She was great and my experience was very relaxing. I would absolutely recommend her. For a little background - my hair is natural asian hair. I was waiting to get it done and i'm sad to say that I left unhappy with the outcome of my hair. Cesar was my hair stylist. He was newer to the salon and he was pretty nice at first. He made conversation and it seemed fine but there were red flags that made me concerned. I showed him the photo of the hair color I was going for about 4-5 times. He told me that he would be able to get my there since I wasn't trying to go blonde when I initially showed him the photo. During the conversation, I noticed he kept asking me the same questions repeatedly - I just shrugged it off to him trying to make it less awkward quiet?... but then I started getting concerned. he made comments about my hair being thick and the timing with his other appointments, brought out the book with hair levels and asked if I wanted to go blonde.. when I specifically told him blonde wasn't what I was going for.. I showed him the picture again and he said okay. With the first toner, I noticed it was very blonde. I didn't like the contrast with my natural hair. He said he'd have to apply a different toner. I showed him the photo again and this is when he said I'd never shown him that photo and he's never seen it.. He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. I was LIVID but I kept my mouth shut and just wanted to leave and end this process. I told him specifically I did not want warm tones, I wanted a mushroom brown with cool tones. I told him very honestly this wasn't what I was going for and although he thought it was pretty and "great for the season" I was not happy. He kept trying to convince me that it was great. I have chunks of blonde on the bottom, that look a bit like zebra stripes and then on top I have brown, orange, and brown hair mixed with my natural color. He didn't fully dry my hair - seemed like he had to get ready for his next client. Im currently scheduling my color correction since it's obvious he didn't put much care towards the bottom half of my hair. Might have been an off day, but this last negative experience left me very disappointed with a much needed gift. read more

I opened a Yelp account just to be able to review this place. I have never felt so safe getting my hair done during the last 6 months. They were constantly cleaning everything while I was there. They have these little dividers between every chair in the salon which made me feel even safer. See the photos! And there was a sign on each chair letting you know they had sanitized it before you used it. Bravo to them, really. And Alex did such a great job on my cut and color. I will be going back for sure and would recommend anyone worried about feeling safe to go there. They have a spa upstairs that does "everything but nails" they said but I didn't go up there this time. When I come back I will probably get a facial and have my brows sugared. I love this place! I get my hair done here from Rachel and received my first set of lashes from Cherry! Both women offer exceptional customer service and made me feel safe during the pandemic with their cleaning procedures, mask wearing, and work station set up. Cherry did a fantastic job on my lashes! I was nervous to get fake lashes for an upcoming vacation as I have sensitive eyes and was afraid they may react to the lash glue. Cherry was really sweet and so professional and did a couple tester lashes on one eye before I committed to a full set to make sure my eyes didn't react. I'm so thankful that she did this for me because fake lashes was the best vacation investment ever! I got so many compliments on my lashes (we did more of a natural look) and literally didn't have to do anything additional to my eyes to get ready! It cut my getting ready routine in half and made wearing a mask so much easier and I didn't have to worry about my mascara smudging. I will always get lashes for my upcoming vacations from Cherry! Rachel is also fantastic. I have gotten my hair done from her twice during the pandemic and I have loved the results each time. She has great energy, listens to what you want and puts her own spin on it, and is up to date on all the latest trends! Lisa was absolutely amazing!! I went to get microdermabrasion facial and she was highly knowledgeable and took time explaining each step. My skin felt great after the treatment and I am now going to see her for my second facial. Lisa was also available via email to answer all my questions and concerns we were able to discuss and plan the next treatment that was appropriate for my skin. I appreciate men who look good, and love getting picked up on by guys -- what better way to know you're looking good, and it's really the only time I get drinks bought for me. I can hang out with girlfriends and not have that desperate need to have sex with them. I have total confidence in my own sexuality. How GAY! And speaking of looking good, what better way to jump start it then by starting from the top down. Shawn is the man for hair -- for men AND for women. Every time I walk in, I am looking pretty good. And I walk out looking awesome. And not always the way I thought I would... At one point we were discussing hair styles, what's in, what's not, and he got really straight with me: "Will, it's time to grow up. Enough of whatever this college-age hair style you've been sporting for the last decade. We're doing something different." I sat back, rode the ride--sipped some in-house brewed coffee (really good; at one point he offered me a beer as well!), and discussed work, girls, life, music, etc. An hour later, and I didn't look at all the way I'm used to seeing myself. It took about an hour or two to get used to. But really the litmus test was the reaction from the females around me: * "Ooooh Will, LOVE the hair!" * "Nice look!" * "Rawr!" * "Hey, Will, would you take my fiancé shopping? I also followed Michelle here from another salon because she consistently does amazing things to my hair. The first time I went to her was to get my long hair lopped off. She gave me a really cute, super textured short cut that eventually, with her help, evolved into a shorter, funky, chunked-out style. I wore that style lovingly for about a year before deciding to grow my hair out. After about four months of awkward hair (girls if you've ever had to grow your hair out you know my misery) I went back to her to get it shaped up. As always, my eyes lit up when I saw the finished product and I'm not too modest to say that I got checked out on the way home, which was a huge boost to my self-esteem after enduring four months of muppet hair. The salon itself is clean, quiet, relaxing, and professional. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the products they use smell divine. I do not know what happened and both Shaun and Cherry have said nothing. No longer was I able to make an appointment. The most unprofessional place ever. I am sure I am not the only one. I cannot believe professionals would do this. Do not waste your money there. Update- it is not the salon. It's Cherry and Shaun who are completely unprofessional. I know I was not the only one but after 2+years of having my eyelashes and hair done, I was dumped as a client for no reason. Brought both of them gifts, even thought a friendship was there. Joanna Karas gave me one of the best facials I have received ever and I have been in the spa/salon industry for 8 years now. Usually after a few hours of a facial my skin starts to feel dry and tight but not this time. I don't know if it was the products or if its just her skills and knowledge but my face retained the moisture for days. I absolutely loved it! The salon/spa itself is so clean and cute. When you walk in the atmosphere just makes you happy and joyful. When Joanna greets you, the room lights up another notch. I am ridiculously fussy about my hair; the color, the cut, the style...so I was very nervous at the prospect of having to find a new stylist. However, with the help of Yelp, I tried out Intermezzo salon and it was a hit! I never expected to find such a gem so quickly, so after my first cut and color with Shawn I was delighted. He listened so well to what I wanted and more importantly, what I didn't want, he asked lots of questions and really concentrated when styling my hair. Went in here because it was close to my house and had ok reviews. The salon itself is gorgeous, intimate, and exactly what I was looking for. I got there, waited for a couple minutes, then was taken back. I got along fine with the stylist, until it came to the actual haircut. The color process was fine, she agreed to mix two of the colors to get what I wanted. She did leave me alone for a really long time while I was under the heater, without checking on me once. Then when she started cutting my hair she didn't seem to be paying much attention- instead she was talking to her boyfriend who is also a stylist there. Then came the disaster- I told her I wanted my bangs shaped, Zoey style. She starts cutting them, asking me every step along the way if she was doing it right. She cut them straight across then goes "So. do you want me to fringe them a little?" YES- who wants straight across bangs with no texture??? That worried me. She also cut my hair way too short (about an inch shorter than I had specifically told her). Then came the payment- my total came to above $200 for a cut, color (all over) and brow wax. I asked to see an itemized bill because off the website I figured $50 for the cut (they had given a range) and I think the color was $65 or $70, and the brow wax was $25. Well apparently my "free" deep conditioning treatment got thrown into the bill, and the haircut (that I had to walk her through) was $70. I wore my hair up for two weeks it looked so short, and weeks later it still doesn't look good straight. Not worth the ridiculous $185 with some tip. read more

Update - the owner was quick to respond and another aesthetician showed me how to fill in my brows until the hair grows back. I still do not plan to return but it is clear that they care about making things right. First and last time going here. I asked for my stray eyebrow hairs to be cleaned up while maintaining my natural brow shape. I left with two drastically asymmetrical eyebrows, one of which is about half the width it was when I went in there. I'm so embarrassed and have months of growing out ahead of me. I have an announcement to make to the Yelpverse. I have FINALLY found my hair salon, after 2 years of returning home to New Jersey to get my hair cut by my childhood hair dresser! The ladies at Intermezzo were knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. Holly took care of my waxing and made it a fun experience by keeping up a steady stream of amiable conversation, and Lauren gave me an amazing hair cut that I am over the moon about. Holly and Lauren did make sure to mention the other services they have and the products they use, but I didn't feel like I was being pressured to buy anything on the spot, which was nice. I'm already looking forward to my follow-up! The only bad thing is that their online booking service, while convenient, constantly goes on the fritz for me, but Holly mentioned that they were working on that, so hopefully that won't be an issue anymore! read more

About three weeks ago, I decided to change my hair fairly drastically. I'm a fan of the drastic haircut, so a feeling of shock wasn't completely unexpected. I ended up with a cut that looked like the awkward grow-out phase of a cute short haircut. The problem is, I never actually GOT that cute haircut--I was fast-forwarded to the awkward phase. After trying to make do for a few weeks, I finally decided to find someone new to work on the disheveled mop protruding from my noggin'. It was my first time at Intermezzo, and I'm very impressed. The salon itself is super cute. Hip without pretension. Everyone was super nice (I even had to show up a few minutes late due to car trouble). Shawn is fantastic! It was clear by all the other conversations in the salon that the staff there really take time to get to know their clients and seem to really understand their needs. I have never been a "stay at one salon" kind of gal (grew up in a "hair is cut on the porch, or wherever we have a coupon" type of family), but I may be convinced to change my ways after my experience at Intermezzo. read more

Just another vote for Holly. She does fabulous facials and as another reviewer put it, she is cute as a button. And real to boot! Intermezzo uses the Eminence line and everything smelled amazing. What I love about Holly is that she didn't push the line at the end of my facial. No handwritten menu of what was used or, even more obnoxious, placing full bottles of each cleaner, mask, etc on the counter at the cash wrap. Holly even helped me with my botched eyebrows.
