I made another stop here on my way home one afternoon, and was a little disappointed this trip. I only got a chicken chow mein and house fried rice, but neither was as flavorful as they were on my last trip. The rice was dry, but had a decent amount of meat in it. The size/weight of each item was less than previous orders as well. It used to be worth the occasional trip to Ione, but I think I'll save the fuel and just get my Chinese food from Martell. Maybe they had a different chef this time? I might try this again down the line, but it'll be a while. read more

Good food for a great value! I've been craving Chinese food but everywhere I've gone lately has always been sub par. I went to the Ione Chinese restaurant for lunch and man what a value for some tasty food! It was around $12 for a lunch plate with generals chicken and egg fried rice that was piled high! You got so much food for $12 especially with how expensive things have gotten this is a great deal. I got it to go but if you eat there you even get soup for an even better deal! Our favorite Chinese Restaurant in Amador County. We love their General Chicken and their Hot & Sour Soup. We also order a side of crispy egg rolls!It's a sit down restaurant with real china and glassware. Their service is quick and attentive. The restaurant is small so difficult for large parties. We got 3 dinner combination specials which were served family style. I like that. They give you big portions here but some of the dishes lacked any flavor, notably the fried rice and Kung pao chicken which could have used some more vegetables. The house chow mein could also use some more vegetables. The lemon chicken and mandarin chicken which were both battered, deep fried and drenched is sauce were good. There aren't many restaurants in Ione, CA. But when I'm in Ione I will always eat Ione Chinese. I've eaten there many times, ordered take out many times but this is my first review of them. Service is quick and friendly. Ambience is typical strip mall Chinese restaurant. There are certain dishes we always order..... the special wonton soup (wor wonton) and mandarin chicken. Love love love the mandarin chicken. Chicken chow mein is good, Mu Shu pork is good, honey walnut prawns are good. Until recently, this restaurant has been very consistent. For the last several months we have noticed that sometimes the food is under seasoned (not enough salt). Other times it is as perfect as ever. We will continue to eat at Ione Chinese as it's the only Chinese in town and hope that they return to their consistent goodness. read more

By far the worst experience . 2 hours to get food. Never approached one time while waiting for food. Asked for a discount and told " I can't do that". Get home with food to find missing items in order which other people had happen as well. We went back and other customers returned for the same reason. Stopped by today for some lunch. Had the mandarin chicken and lemon chicken with chow mein from the lunch menu. Service was very prompt and friendly and efficient, with a bowl of egg flower soup to kick off. We were very surprised by the generous portions especially considering the very reasonable prices. Oh man, bu hao!! :( I so wanted to like this restaurant, we love and adore the pizza place next door. And after reading some negative reviews, I so thought I was going to write another awesome review amidst the negative ones. I was wrong. 1. Ordered a really simple to-go order. Hot and sour soup, 2 orders of the potstickers and an order of the Veggie chow mein. She quoted me 10-13 minutes, I told her we live around 25 minutes away and we are en route!! (Maybe that was my mistake etting her know how long it was going to take for us yo get there) 2. Got there like in 22 minutes, had all 3 of my youngins with me, and drove the 4runner out there so no need to speed. Soon as I walked in our order was not ready. In fact, I ended up waiting for another 10 minutes. So, in short it was over 35 minutes for them to put my order together. So glad I didn't speed to get here when she said the order would be ready. All that to say, their timing is "hwai dan." (Bad chicken lol) 3. The food: The Hot and sour soup, which I love, was awesome. No complaints. In fact, it was HUN HAO!! Excellent!! The rest, the potstickers after 2 bites of one, the garbage can enjoyed the rest. The Chowmein, oh Nelly, or in this case aye yo...so bad. Bland, even the veggies thought it was cooked bad. It too saw the garbage can real quick. 4. The bill. So I use own a restaurant in Lafayette, part of the East Bay. I say this because I somewhat can speak as an expert in this business, I say this humbly of course. Itemized receipts. I swear it's a good thing. Customers, idk call me loopy and crazy, but we like to know what we spent our hard earned money on. Just to punch bunch of numbers into an archaic calculator and yell out a number, again idk, doesn't work for me I suppose. 5. The vibe of the place, ambiance if you will. Old school, small town chinese restaurant. Lol. I liked the interior set up, in fact, the above annoyances would of been totally dismissed if the food was slammin. First they screwed up our order and when I called to see if it could be fixed they blamed it on us. The rice is literally inedible and it costs way to much money for how terrible the quality is and how little meat is actually in the Mongolian beef. I have been going to this restaurant for years and years and it has always been great. However, after my last two experiences they will never get another dollar from us. The first bad experience, I had taken my boyfriend for his first time. The lady rushed us and wasn't very polite. Our food was pretty terrible to my surprise. I had never had a bad experience here before, but it literally tasted like they reheated our rice and dumped soy sauce on it to add moisture back (still dry and now super salty). We were in and out of the restaurant in about 15 minutes. We got our bill which seemed extremely high considering what we ordered and it was just the two of us. He payed with his card and didn't leave a tip on the receipt because I was going to leave a cash tip. As I was pulling money out of my wallet our waiter rudely interrupted our conversation and pointed to the receipt saying "why no tip?" I left the cash on the table, brushing it off & assuming it was just a bad day for them. This week we brought a group of friends (5 of us). We arrived at about 7:45 and knew they closed at 8:30 so we tried to hurry and order quickly. She rushed us to order minutes after us sitting down and practically threw us our food and drinks. The food was wonderful this time. We had two separate bills, and we noticed that she added a $10 tip to both of our cards. When our friend questioned her on why she automatically added the gratuity if we were on separate bills she answered with "because people don't tip" and "if you want to bargain don't come here again". Point is we are all willing to tip well if the food is good and the customer service is decent. It was not at all. Sad to see this place go down hill. read more

food and service are always good. my complaint is with the bill. they add more tip in later. i had a $48 bill. left $8 tip and put it in my checkbook as a total of $56 and threw the receipt away, but then a couple weeks later while balancing my checkbook the total was $13 more than what i had originally put down. i did not go in to confront because talking to anyone in there is difficult and i didnt have my copy anymore to prove it. just be careful, if i go here again i will only use cash. read more

We also got the bbq pork appetizer and it was more than enough to feed us both and I was really surprised because of others saying their portions are smaller now with the new ownership.
