Excellent experience Saturday night 1/17/15!!! Food is amazing, definitely a place to take the "Meatasaurus" of the family. The drinks were great, Sangria, Caipirinha (Rum), Caiparoska (Vodka), and the bartender was very nice. The wait staff and servers were top notch & very polite, a refreshing change once in awhile. The different cuts of meat were each fantastic, with their signature taste, prepared to your choosing of doneness. The salad/sides bar was also kept very fresh, the staff kept tending to it every 3-5 minutes. Go, Go, Go!!! No wonder this place made it to the list of 10 best restaurants in PA!!! Everything you'll read here on Yelp is 100% true and then some. Having experienced brazilian steak houses in Brazil, I can definitely attest that Ipanema Grille lives up to their fame. For all you carnivores out there, rodizio is the way to go. 12 different cuts/meats impaled on massive scewers will be coming at your table as long as the flipper's green side is up. If you can't keep up with their pace, flip it to the red and give yourself some time to digest. Salad bar is phenomenal, definitely try garlic mashed potatoes and brazilian cheese bread (pão de queijo). Sangria and caipirinha should be your drinks of choice. Grilled pineapple rolled in ground cinnamon, served at the very end, should not be skipped! Super nice service, very friendly owner. The only thing I didn't like that much is the music. One would expect this place to be bathed in warm sounds of bossa nova by Antonio Carlos Jobim or Sergio Mendes that would bring true Ipanema vibe to your gustatory experience. Instead, they play some weird concert footage of some brazilian gauchos singing folk tunes that doesn't match the name of the place at all. This is the second time I have been to Ipanema for their signature meal. The Brazilian steakhouse experience is very different from a traditional American steakhouse, but so worth it. The multitude of deliciously roasted meat is a carnivores dream. The meats are tender, succulent and well seasoned. The buffet offerings had some unusual sides such as fried bananas and tiny rolls and more traditional hot and cold dishes. Some one in the kitchen has a liberal hand with the garlic that was somewhat shocking but still delicious to me, though I could imagine others may find it off putting. My main complaints have to do with the size if the restaurant and the awkward arraignment of the buffet, it is stuck in a corner with no obvious flow pattern as the plates are in the corner. Also, you feel as if you are intruding on other patrons when you access the buffet, the rooms are very tight. read more

Delicioso. As soon as you pull into the parking lot, you can smell the divine meats cooking and your mouth instantly starts watering. Came here with some friends for the meat extravaganza and we were all put into a blissful meat coma when we left. The sides are good, pretty authentic I think, I recommend the palm hearts and fried banana. The caipirinha is really good, the wait staff is friendly and beautiful, and the place is small compared to the chain Brazilian steakhouses, which is nice. We went here as an in between travel point for our party of 3 in mid January. I had never been to a Brazilian Steakhouse before and was assured by my fellow diners that it was authentic. All of the meats were very nice and the salads were too. I really liked the fact that the place was not totally remodeled, it still had some nuances of whatever it was years ago. I have been here several times and I always get the rodizio. It may be on the expensive side but you definitely get what you pay for. It includes a variety of well seasoned meats which are carved onto your plate. One of my favorites is chicken hearts which are hard to find. You also get to visit the buffet which has all kinds of delicious and interesting Brazilian salads and appetizers. I also suggest trying a capharina (sp?), which is a drink made with sugar cane. I've always been a big fan of family-owned ethnic restaurants and Ipanema grille is another great Scranton find in this category. I went to a lunch buffet with the family and was very pleased with the restaurant, service and food. In the evenings they have a Rodizio (sp?) which is basically an all you can eat meat buffet where they bring the meat table side. I used to eat at the Brazilian places in NYC on 46th or 47th st. and Ipanema grille was almost to that caliber. The beans and the beef were both good and the prices for the buffet (especially w/kids) were very reasonable. read more

We have been back as many times as possible. We live in South Jersey, but used to spend Christmas week in the Poconos every year (and are excited to return this year!). The Ipanema Grille was a highlight of our trip every year. Not only is the food delicious, fresh and plentiful, but the service is attentive, polite and warm. I wish I could give this place 4.5 stars. Went here with three of my closest friends during our "guys' vacation" this week. We all loved it. A real mom and pop establishment, which is a rare treat for this type of restaurant. We've all been to many such places in NYC, Boston, Philadelphia and elsewhere, and we all agreed the food was as good as at any of those places. The wait-staff were really friendly and genuine, despite what has to be a really tough job. I would highly recommend the Rodizio and the authentic Portuguese drinks. This is the ultimate man restaurant. If you love red meat this is your place. When I came here to eat I started fasting the day before. My wife & I had a dinner reservation for 8:30pm. We arrived 30 minutes early & the restaurant was jam packed. My only complaint is this restaurant is way too small so if your a former Army Vet like myself this makes you feel closed in. I'm glad my waitress seated us close to the door so we had space to maneuver. Get the Rodizio you won't be disappointed. Place your flipper on green & let them bring the meat out. The buffet has a very nice selection but just take very small portions to leave room for all 13 types of meat. The Sangria & Caipirinha are awesome. I highly recommend them both. Enjoy! I would have given it 5 stars but I don't like buffets and your sides and salad are at a buffet so I have to stick with 4stars. A group of my friends went to this restaurant & it was different from a buffet I've normally been at. I do not mean different in a bad way just a new experience. If you like meat this is the place for you. I'd say if you especially like meat that's cooked medium to medium well it really is your place! Some of my group really preferred well done meat and the cooks made them their own but, some still were not satisfied because it was still pink. The small salad bar buffet with some hot food was a plus though especially for those not satisfied with the meat. It's worth a try you might love it. Came here with my girlfriend and absolutely loved it. For $35 per person we got to sample all the different meats they offered us, including a chicken heart! Was here 7 years ago. Came back in 2015 and just as good. Get the rodizio if your going to go here. It's hard to pick one meat as the best, they're all excellent. Great service and hospitality. Loved this place. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but when you open the door, there is a whole Brazilian cultural meat lover's extravaganza going on. I don't even eat meat and I really enjoyed myself with the salad bar alone (they also have fish included on the salad bar). You also have the option of ordering a la carte from the menu. For dessert, the Brazilian cheesecake was out of this world and is now one of my favorite desserts! Sangria was also excellent. The people working were friendly Brazilians. A hidden gem in Scranton. It isn't Chima or Fogo but you won't be disappointed in what you get and you won't have to drive to New York or Philly. The meats are excellent and just about what you'd get selection wise in a big city. Quality and flavor are also up there. It is not just "good for Scranton" it's just plain good. Different cuts of beef, bacon wrapped chicken, chicken hearts, goat, lamb, etc. Where you might be disappointed is the "salad" bar. If you like to eat quinoa edamame salad with a chocolate balsamic dressing, you'll be out of luck here. What you will find is a small variety of traditional Brazilian sides and some American stuff for the picky eaters. I went on a Sunday night and the service was excellent because the restaurant was empty so I can't speak to what it is like on a busy night but I did not go wanting for booze or meat. read more

After seeing so many great reviews, we decided to take the hour ride for my husband's birthday. So glad we did! We really appreciate a comfortable dining atmosphere, and this place nailed it from the second we walked in the door. Everyone was welcoming, helpful, and friendly, treating us like old friends. Naturally we had to try the rodizio, and we were definitely not disappointed. We started with a pitcher of their special sangria, which was light and fruity. The salad/sides bar was a pleasant surprise for such a small setup. Large selection of choices. Everything from the polenta to the fried bananas to the tilapia were fresh and delicious, especially the black beans and Brazilian cheese rolls. Once we were back in our seats and turned our flipper to green, the server asked if there was a specific way we preferred our meat cooked and they would make sure we got what we liked. Then the main event started. Every meat selection they brought was better than the last. A few seemed a little over salted to me, but still extremely delicious. The skirt steak and lamb were our favorites. Dessert was the best piece of chocolate cake we've ever had, decorated for my husband's birthday. They dimmed the lights and everyone came and sang for him. Honestly I usually find that horrifying, but they made us feel so comfortable throughout the meal, it was really nice. Total tab with tip was $150 so it will have to be reserved for special occasions, but we both can't wait to go back. Great people, amazing food, easy to find, and private parking. Having been to many Brazilian restaurants in other states, I was pleasantly surprises to find one in scranton. Like almost everyone else that reviewed this place I got the buffet and all you can eat meat. The meat you start with depends on what they are rotating with when you get there. There are a lot of meat, so if you want you can be choosy on the first time around, they will be back. I highly recommend the flank steak, lamb and sirloin were my favorite. However everything was good. We also had the sangria, which was the best I had in town. Although I did not have room for desert, I saw someone else get the banana crepe which appeared to be their version of bananas foster, it looked good and smelled great...maybe next time I'll save room...maybe read more

We ate here to celebrate my father's 60th birthday. The food was great (although overpriced). However, when I asked the female server to split our bill (we had a party of 12) she then went on to lecture and berate me in front of my entire family about how I should have asked for this to be done when we were seated because of how difficult it was now going to be for her (mind you, we all arrived at different times - and spent nearly $500!)
