A-MAZ-ING. Great staff, fast service, fun and sooooo good. The bacon wrapped turkey and sirloin are my favorite. The sides bar is fully stocked and has a good assortment of salads and sides. The grilled marinated artichoke hearts are phenomenal. I didn't like this place. I read many positive reviews and so I went there. We had Rodizio. The salad bar is very good (and it is included in the high price). About the meat, I was not satisfied. Some of the things they served us were ok, but about other things... seemed like they had cooked meat that was already cooked... I've been to numerous rodizios over the years. Although this one is smaller than most the food was good and the staff was very friendly. I was hoping that they would have feijoada but I was told they stopped making it because it was rarely ordered. I guess I'm spoiled from big fancy chain Brazilian steakhouses, but that doesn't mean Ipanema isn't great. We went on a Saturday night and sat at the bar because it was that packed, I've never seen so many cars in that small parking lot before and I was born and raised in Scranton. A very small, but intimate, interior, it's definitely not the hole in the wall it looks like from outside. The meat selections were all top notch (except the chicken hearts... I've never seen that one before), but I have to admit I was disappointed when the lamb I waited for all night had so much rosemary I couldn't even begin to taste anything else. The salad bar is much smaller than most other Brazilian steakhouses with less options, but instead it includes the mashed potatoes and Pao de Queijo that most steakhouses only give a little bit of. Went here for the first time tonight. After reading so many wonderful reviews my expectation were high, and Ipanema Grille managed to exceed them! We were greeted almost immediately by friendly and welcoming staff ( we had made a reservation, which i would recommend as the restaurant is small and was full when we arrived at 7:30 on a Friday). After we were seated, the same gentleman arrived at our table to educate us on the menu and the restaurant itself. My husband and I both chose to take advantage of the 'all you can eat special.' I accepted this with some hesitation thinking that it would be too much food at once and I would become full too quickly. The special works by wait staff walking through the dinning area with skewers of 13 different cuts of meat (skirt steak, chicken legs, lamb, and many more). You can request the meats at different temperatures and request specific ones of you find one you prefer. By flipping a wooden peg on your table to red, you indicate to staff that you do not need any more meat at the moment and they will skip over your table. Once you flip the peg to green they will again offer you whatever meat they have at that time. The cuts are small in size, but you can ask for more at a time if you like. We found that the portions they provided were perfect to ensure that you did not get full to quickly and could enjoy all 13 types of meat. There are small gaps of time in between when someone will come to you and offer another selection, which is the perfect amount of time to allow you to rest a bit and not get overwhelmed. In addition to the meat, the all you can't eat selection comes with unlimited trips to the cold salad bar and hot appetizer bar in the restaurant. Both of these were continuously stocked during our hour and a half at the resultant and included a vast area of hot and cold options. In addition to delicious food, the staff was friendly, polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. read more

I've tried this restaurant twice. I found the service to be less than acceptable. The 1st time we went we sat right next to the kitchen door so as they came out they should have stopped w/ the Rodizio but rarely did almost as if we were an option to stop. The 2nd time we waited 20 minutes to get water & bring over the Rodizio card & tools. The wait wouldn't have been an issue but instead of taking care of us 2 waitresses were setting tables, handling checks & looking on but never once coming over to our table. I can't imagine bringing water over to a table would have caused them any delay in setting a table or trying to figure out a check but it it did. The food is decent if you actually get any but considering both times were just horrible service I'm rating it a 2 & wont be going back. read more

Unexpected gem of a restaurant in Scranton, PA. Ipanema Grille's humble exterior gives way to a warm and lovely ambiance within. Staff are immediately gracious and welcoming. This is a family-owned establishment, and feels like one, with very personalized, attentive service from beginning to end. We called from the road on our trip home from New England, arriving quite late as they seemed to be finishing their evening dining service for the night. Nonetheless, there was no rushing whatsoever. They kept the salad and hot food bar open until checking several times if we wanted more. The high quality meats were exquisitely seasoned and cooked perfectly to order. Their Picahna (sirloin) had a sublime flavor, with a smoky peppery spice rub, with maybe a hint of brown sugar. We're still dreaming about it. A carnivore's delight! Get the Rodizio & it's a non-stop barrage of meat. As long as you keep the green light on, the food keeps coming. There is everything from lamb to turkey with all kinds of cuts from other unfortunate beasts in-between. If that's not your speed, they offer delicious paella & other Brazillian specialties. What a great experience. This was my first time at a Brazilian steak house and you can color me impressed. The restaurant was surprisingly full at 8:30PM on a Saturday and we had to wait about 10 min for a table. The atmosphere was lively and the staff was very friendly. Compared to the other brazilian steak house I reviewed this one had the better salad bar out of the two; many more options including antipasto and there were quite a few dishes to choose from, more like a mini buffet. The meats were good, my favorite is always the lamb anywhere I go! I think the meat was slightly over salted but nonetheless very good. Very friendly staff! Every Brazilian steak house I have gone to has great staff ! And I respect them so much more because there they are lugging and slicing meat for people all night yet still maintain a smile. Excellent experience Saturday night 1/17/15!!! Food is amazing, definitely a place to take the "Meatasaurus" of the family. The drinks were great, Sangria, Caipirinha (Rum), Caiparoska (Vodka), and the bartender was very nice. The wait staff and servers were top notch & very polite, a refreshing change once in awhile. The different cuts of meat were each fantastic, with their signature taste, prepared to your choosing of doneness. The salad/sides bar was also kept very fresh, the staff kept tending to it every 3-5 minutes. Go, Go, Go!!! We have been back as many times as possible. We live in South Jersey, but used to spend Christmas week in the Poconos every year (and are excited to return this year!). Having experienced brazilian steak houses in Brazil, I can definitely attest that Ipanema Grille lives up to their fame. For all you carnivores out there, rodizio is the way to go. 12 different cuts/meats impaled on massive scewers will be coming at your table as long as the flipper's green side is up. If you can't keep up with their pace, flip it to the red and give yourself some time to digest. Salad bar is phenomenal, definitely try garlic mashed potatoes and brazilian cheese bread (pão de queijo). Sangria and caipirinha should be your drinks of choice. Grilled pineapple rolled in ground cinnamon, served at the very end, should not be skipped! Super nice service, very friendly owner. The only thing I didn't like that much is the music. One would expect this place to be bathed in warm sounds of bossa nova by Antonio Carlos Jobim or Sergio Mendes that would bring true Ipanema vibe to your gustatory experience. Instead, they play some weird concert footage of some brazilian gauchos singing folk tunes that doesn't match the name of the place at all. This is the second time I have been to Ipanema for their signature meal. The Brazilian steakhouse experience is very different from a traditional American steakhouse, but so worth it. The multitude of deliciously roasted meat is a carnivores dream. The meats are tender, succulent and well seasoned. The buffet offerings had some unusual sides such as fried bananas and tiny rolls and more traditional hot and cold dishes. Some one in the kitchen has a liberal hand with the garlic that was somewhat shocking but still delicious to me, though I could imagine others may find it off putting. My main complaints have to do with the size if the restaurant and the awkward arraignment of the buffet, it is stuck in a corner with no obvious flow pattern as the plates are in the corner. Also, you feel as if you are intruding on other patrons when you access the buffet, the rooms are very tight. read more

Delicioso. As soon as you pull into the parking lot, you can smell the divine meats cooking and your mouth instantly starts watering. Came here with some friends for the meat extravaganza and we were all put into a blissful meat coma when we left. The sides are good, pretty authentic I think, I recommend the palm hearts and fried banana. The caipirinha is really good, the wait staff is friendly and beautiful, and the place is small compared to the chain Brazilian steakhouses, which is nice.
