Disappointed like others that they changed their menu. They also made it more difficult and confusing to add the extras to the ramen dishes. I'm hoping they will update their menu again to better accommodate those who enjoyed and came for the vegan food. I'm so disappointed to report that this restaurant is no longer fully vegan or even vegetarian. Although they told us their menu is "about 95% plant based," they now serve meat and seafood, and some of their ramen noodles now contain egg. The biggest problem with this is that the non-vegan items were not clearly indicated as such, which meant we had to ask to ensure we were not given egg noodles. The staff was so nice, but it was frustrating to have a formerly vegan restaurant become a challenging dining experience. I should state that the food itself is still pretty good, so this might be a decent place to go to if you're looking for mostly plant-based food but are dining with someone who absolutely can't give up chicken for even one meal. I also don't know if this is typical, but they were projecting baseball games onto the wall, along with loud commercials, during the entire dinner. It made the ambiance unpleasant. I hate leaving a negative review for a place I've really enjoyed in the past, but I'm very confused about who this restaurant is catering to. read more

As a vegetarian, I intentionally choose vegan restaurants because they are the one place where I should not have to question whether the food I'm ordering contains meat. When I walk into a restaurant that is entirely vegan, I can order confidently knowing there is no possibility that animal products will end up on my plate. That is exactly why I chose Ippudo V. Ippudo V launched as Ippudo's fully plant-based concept and built its entire identity around being vegan. It received extensive press coverage celebrating that fact, including coverage from major publications like Forbes. Even today, Google still describes it as a fully plant-based restaurant, the restaurant still carries the "V" name, and "PLANT-BASED" is still prominently displayed across the storefront. So when I sat down, I had absolutely no reason to believe I needed to scrutinize the menu for real meat. I wasn't looking for disclaimers because I believed I was in a vegan restaurant. I ordered the chicken assuming it was plant-based chicken. It wasn't until afterward that my server informed me the restaurant had changed its concept and that I had actually eaten real chicken. I have been vegetarian for years, and this has never happened to me before. I have never unknowingly eaten meat because I trusted that a restaurant marketed and branded as vegan was, in fact, vegan. Most people who intentionally choose a vegan restaurant are not expecting to audit every menu item for hidden animal products. The entire reason many of us choose vegan restaurants is because we believe the kitchen is vegan and that every dish is safe unless clearly stated otherwise. If you're going to fundamentally change a concept that was launched, branded, and widely promoted as fully vegan, you have a responsibility to communicate that change just as clearly as you communicated the original concept. That means updating your branding, making the change unmistakable online, and proactively telling guests when they're seated that Ippudo V is no longer a fully plant-based restaurant and now serves animal products. Had someone simply said, "Just so you know, we're no longer fully plant-based," this entire experience would have been avoided. I left feeling shocked and incredibly disappointed. I hope no other vegetarian or vegan has to experience what I did. read more

Me and my partner came here when we were starving so honestly, everything tasted really good. I really enjoyed the ambience and our waitress was so sweet! I love that they put out three different homemade sauces for you and it really does pack a flavor punch, especially when you have the freedom to mix them as you please. The best menu item hands-down is probably their maitake tempura. My partner who doesn't like mushrooms says that it was his favorite dish as well. Just so crispy and the mushrooms are so juicy and meaty. And paired with that curry dipping sauce? It was to die for. I also really enjoyed the tonkotsu ramen. I will admit that I was a little bit disappointed with the proteins in the Ramen because as someone who loves tofu, I found the tofu to be really bland. The marinated carrots also felt a little bit out of place and overpowering, but that broth was so incredible. I'm so impressed that it's vegan and they were still able to capture so much depth and flavor. I genuinely wanted to ask if they sell the broth to go lol. Everything else was good, but not extraordinary. The dragon tantan was a little bit too salty for my taste and it's also spicy. Pleasantly surprised with vegan ramen! We came on a quiet weeknight and it was pretty empty, so we were able to choose any table and service was so attentive. We got one of the seasonal apps - fried eggplant, and shared 2 ramens. They're super kid/baby friendly! They brought out plastic plates, cutlery, and even a straw cup for him. Such a nice touch! I liked the platon tonkatsu more than the daichi no miso. It was creamy and I loved the crunch from the fried enoki. Ippudo V is truly a hidden gem and I'm thrilled that Ippudo has decided to run with a plant-based concept! The menu features Japanese cuisine and I was very impressed with everything we tried. I'm always on the hunt for vegan sushi and the rolls here are phenomenal - the Super Mario Bro and Brooklyn Bridge Rolls are must-orders. Be warned: there's only 4 pieces per order, you'll want more! Another stellar item were the Brussels Sprouts, which may just be on my list of top Brussels sprouts, as they were cooked to perfection. The Gyoza were great and you couldn't tell they were vegan. My least favorite item was the Maitake Tempura, as I found them to be a bit lacking in flavor. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. read more

Glad our server convinced us to be stay and try vegan ramen because we didn't realize it was vegan at first LOL As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted with a spacious and beautiful open kitchen with lots of seating options. We started off with the seasoned seaweed French fries & pan fried edamame. Wish we got some sauce for the fries but they were perfectly crispy! The seasoning for the pan fried edamame was addicting, and we went through all of it within minutes! Then we got the Platon Tonkotsu ramen and the Shojin Shoyu ramen. The broth for both of them was flavorful, light, and delicious! The fried enoki mushrooms in the tonkotsu ramen was my favorite, crispy & addicting! I saw the sign for ippudo V around the corner from my gym so I decided to go check it out after my workout. The corner location is sunny and warm, and I loved the garage style windows that rolled up and let the fresh air in. There isn't a ton of foot traffic by that area in Dumbo but the space is simply gorgeous and the menu is quite creative and worthy of a visit. This fifth location frmo Ippudo serves exclusively plant-based versions of their ramen and bao buns. They also have plant-based sushi as well, but I just finished a workout so I decided on a Mango Manifesto ($13) smoothie instead. I loved the housemade vegan whipped cream piped around the sides of the cup and the smoothie was very mango-forward. I didn't taste much of the plant-based protein collagen so if you are sensitive to powders, you will not be put off by their smoothies. read more

We stumbled into this new restaurant walking around the area. We came in for the sandos but they only serve during the day time. This place is pretty spacious and it was set up like cafe/restaurant style. We got the gyoza, sushi roll and dessert. The gyoza was pretty good and really enjoyed the 3 unique dipping sauces. The sushi roll was vegan and thought it was alright. The imitation eel did taste pretty similar to real eel. We also got drinks hojicha latte and sencha. Both were pretty standard drinks and I believe they source from Kettle. The chocolate mousse cake was really good. It's made out of tofu and has a good texture to it. Overall, pretty solid new restaurant for vegan Japanese food. It's a bit pricy for some of the dishes tho. read more

I feel very mixed giving 4 stars for $30 ramen, but I think the fact that it's vegan but doesn't taste vegan combined with the gorgeous interior of the space may help to justify it?? Everything on the menu is plant based, and while I'm a meat lover through and through, I was very intrigued. Once I got past the sticker shock (typical Ippudo ramen are in the high teens to lower $20's), I decided I needed to try the "tonkotsu" and see for myself how rich they could make a plant based broth that is traditionally pork based. OH MY. they did it. They really did it. How did they get the broth to be so creamy?? So rich?? Answer: mushroom and soy milk? No matter, I was so impressed! The grilled eggplant slice in the tonkotsu was soooo melt in your mouth and the pickled carrots added a nice refreshing zing, while the fried enoki provided a tasty crunch. The husband was less impressed with his shoyu ramen, which is generally lighter than the tonkotsu to begin with, but I still thought they did a great job with the broth. All in all, I don't know the variety of options out there for vegans, but ippudo V did a banging job of delivering on the umami. If I didn't have a side by side comparison I'm not sure that I'd be able to recognize that this broth is plant based! The price is not my cup of tea, but hey, I'll stick with my meat-based $20 ramen! read more

I came to Ippudo V on a rainy Monday for lunch. Located in Dumbo, close to the F stop, it doesn't look like an Ippudo and doesn't feel like an Ippudo. No chorus of Japanese greetings and it's a huge bright space. It's also un-Ippudo like empty at lunch which feels weirder given the big space. However - the food and service are brilliant and if you are vegan it's purely outstanding. If you aren't vegan it is also outstanding. I had the following: - VROOKLYN GYOZA: 6pcs of grilled dumplings wrapped with plant-based 'pork', cabbage, onions, soy, leeks. 3 types of house made sauces include classic vinegar soy sauce, savory mango miso, and tart cilantro jalapeno (Delicious!!! So good, some of the best gyoza i've ever had) - Toma Tan Ton: Blended mineral rich "Chicken" broth, whole grain noodles, stewed tomato and Hakusai cabbage, leeks, grilled tomato, crispy tofu cubes and fried Nori, topped with garlic chipsb and black pepper (Excellent and loved the whole grain noodles. Added Karaka Paste and Enoki Tempura. Broth was very flavorful) The menu also includes other ramens , many other add ons, sushi, sandwiches, appetizers and desserts and shakes. It's really amazing and thoughtful and designed from the ground up. It would be great if they could add some of these items to other Ippudos or open other Ippudo Vs in Manhattan. I came here for dinner with a friend on a Monday night. I'm always excited to try a new vegan Japanese restaurant especially vegan sushi. Planta Queen is my favorite vegan restaurant but it's in Manhattan so I'm always looking for a good vegan restaurant in Brooklyn. The place had a lot of seating and I especially liked the tables near the opened windows. My friend ordered the Pla-Ton (vegan tonkotsu) ramen with vegan noodles, fried enoki mushrooms, and eggplant. I ordered the Super Mario Bros sushi roll (Akazu brown rice, seaweed, avocado, asparagus tempura, marinated carrot, marinated red cabbage, mushroom tempura, plant-based "Tuna" mayo teriyaki sauce, mayo and micro herb). The vegan tonkotsu broth and noodles tasted great and rich. The sushi roll was tasty too. I really liked the mushroom tempura. However, the mayo was not vegan so it's vegetarian sushi, not vegan sushi which would bother people who are vegans. I'm not vegan so it's not a big deal to me. Service was fast and friendly. Been wanting to stop by and finally did. Ordered Mario roll, had crunchy tempura and rich tuna mayo--was delicious. The roll came in 4 pieces (though I thought it would be 6 from photos). Had the cherry blossom mocktail. It was good, sweet, a little underwhelming but fine. The cherry on the spear was yummy to try. Got the tsukemen, noodles perfectly cooked, broth was rich and spicy. Natto was ... well normal natto lol. There was one shishito. I knew what I was getting, basically just noodles and broth, and it was good, but I regretted not going with another option like the Daichi because it looks like it has more veggies and stuff in it rather than plain noodles. For dessert, the cheesecake. It was good, though sweet and kind of one-note, however the sauce was citrusy. I would say over all everything was decent but nothing to come back for. It didn't wow me enough to crave any dish so much that I would want to go back for it (unlike some restaurants where you can't wait to go back and have it again). The best dish was the sushi. In today's climate, it's important for a successful business venture to consider consumers' needs and wants. Here comes Ippudo, a well-known Japanese ramen empire with their signature tonkotsu broth. Even a giant needs to heed to diner voices and has introduced the first vegetarian spot from the ramen shop. Despite the lack of 'meat', the bowl is still very hearty and comforting - still he same wavy egg noodle but now cooked in a vegetarian base along with vegetable toppings and obviously no char siu. But the meal still feels satisfying. The Pla-ton ("faux-kotsu") ramen is should probably be the first foray here. The broth is creamy yet loaded with umami. Nothing taste any less stellar than the OG version, including the price point, not that vegetable dishes should be cheaper. Now chat Chikalicious Dessert Bar has closed, having their dessert there is also another advantage point. No line so far, so do take advantage of it, along with the calm and less hectic environment. read more
