It's been a while since I've given a spot a one star rating, but Irie Bay definitely deserves it. The food being served here isn't Jamaican at all and has no flavor whatsoever. If I were Jamaican I'd be completely offended after eating bland baked chicken and shredded lettuce disguised as jerk chicken and cabbage! Let's not even mention the so called rice and peas which should've been called "rocks and peas" due to the rice being severely undercooked and hard in texture. Needless to say, I chose the option of just going to bed hungry yesterday night instead of returning to the establishment and telling that little rude old lady at the front about her garbage food. read more

I only gave it one star because i had to. I ordered jerk chicken. It didn't smell nor taste like authentic jerk chicken. Chicken was ruMore like spicy barbecue chicken. The cabbage had no flavor. Late lunch and wanted something different. Stopped in this restaurant and was greeted by this elderly lady. No one was inside eating which was strange but not unlikely with Hooters and McDonald's feet away. There isn't a menu, just 6 or so items written on a chalkboard. We ordered jerk chicken and curry chicken. Food was fresh and hot. Dined in and enjoyed a few cold sodas and patties. For the price I'd go back. The portion size is enough to share. read more

I visited this restaurant years ago and never returned. I now remember the reason. The customer service is terrible. The food is decent and this is the only Jamaican restaurant for miles. I think that's the the reason this one stays open. I decided to dine in since I had more shopping to complete. I witnessed the older lady be very disrespectful to customers calling to ask questions. She even continued to make comments about the caller after the call ended. My experience with Jamaican natives has always been pleasant. This lady actually commented on my use of salt as I was attempting to enjoy my meal. The food was decent but nothing to brag about. There was a overly sweet flavor on the brown stew chicken. It was also pretty dry. The rice & peas would have been dry without the gravy. The plaintains were fine. There was really nothing on the plate I would return to eat. Rare Ethnic Food No. 15 Compare to many Caribbean Cuisine, they a bit above average. In fact, they are Jamaican cuisine. The culture for the Caribbean is more into relax and lay back type. The menu is not printed but on the board. When we were there, many of Jamaican families eat there. The oxtail is the popular item that people order. So we go with it. The food came out in about right timing. The oxtail is cook in the sweet side. It come with rice with pinto bean and salad. The oxtail can be pick out by the folk which the must cook this meat long time for it to fall off the bone. I have some other oxtail before. This one is in the middle of the standard. Service is good. This is a 3.5 stars restaurant to me. Since there is no half star. 4 stars was given in this review. read more

My family grew up traveling and teaching all over the Caribbean, so I can never pass up Jamaican food. This place was wonderful. Authentic, fresh, and great service. The woman who served us was EXTREMELY kind and warm. We felt like we were in her home eating straight from her kitchen. They also have Ting! Best grapefruit soda you'll ever have and it's hard to find in the states (make sure you shake it first). I had the Jerk Chicken and my cousin had the Curry Chicken. It was to die for. This review is based on food, service, cleanliness, and atmosphere. This is a hard review to write, because some of the food was way above average. The jerk chicken was awesome! We came here for lunch, and ordered jerk chicken and jerk pork to share. They both came with rice & beans, salad, and fried plantains. I'll start with the sides; the salad was a little wilted, the fried plantains were good, and the rice & beans were outstanding! The jerk pork was seasoned and cooked perfectly, but I had issues with the amount fat vs. meat. Almost half the pork was chunks of fat. Other than that, it was spicy and delicious. The jerk chicken was juicy, spicy, and worth the visit alone. The menu is kinda strange, being as there's not one. Just a chalkboard on the wall with a few things on it. Being our first time here, we were a little confused as to how it worked, so we ordered at the bar and had a seat. The service was super friendly. The dining area was clean, and the atmosphere was typical of a strip mall restaurant. I really like this place, but the items mentioned above prevent me from going 4 stars for this visit. We've visited here twice. They provide you with a good portion of food. I had the curry chicken and curry goat. Neither dish had a strong curry taste. The curry goat is much better than the curry chicken. Today we had the oxtail. I was left unimpressed with it. The service is good and the cashier is professional. The prices are reasonable. This place has no menu. After reading the list on the board, we decided to get oxtail. The oxtail was cooked in a sweetish sauce and the meat was fell off the bone tender. As seems so often the case, these half-assed attempts at Caribbean restaurants serve up apathetic attitudes with a side of uncomfortable surroundings and "we're out of whatever" chaser. The woman in the restaurant when we walked in at 7pm wasn't sure if she was open, and short of throwing us out could barely wait for us to leave. The room was hot. I will definitely become a regular here! Very clean restaurant that serves generous portions of food. I choose the ox tails and ate every bite. It was served with red beans and rice and salad. The meat on the ox tails literally fell off the bone and the gravy was perfect. I also got a bottle of cream soda which was perfect with my meal. I highly recommend trying this place out. read more

I was a bit let down. I love Jamaican food. I've been to Jamaica several times and lived like a local. I was so pleased to find out there was a Jamaican restaurant in the neighborhood so i gave a try and ordered many of my favorites; curry goat, oxtail etc. The service was great, attentive staff members, clean atmosphere; but sorry this is not a shining example of Jamaican food. Not sure if I caught this place on a bad day or if you people (previous reviews) have never had good Caribbean food before but my oxtails were straight up garbage! Fall off the bone my butt! I paid my $11+ for them so I fought and fought with these over cooked oxtails for a good 15 minutes before giving up and trashing the entire tray. The gravy was ok, the rice and peas were ok, the salad (dry shredded lettuce) not sure if this can even be called a salad was ok.
