Had been wanting some good carribean food for a while and saw Irie Plates across the parking lot where I was shopping, and it was lunch time. So I decided to give them a try. Walk up counter service, was less than friendly. We stood at the counter for several minutes before anyone even came to the counter. I smiled and said thank you and appreciated him taking our order, but the guy behind the counter was not friendly at all nor gracious. We were the only people in the place too. No thanks for coming in, nothing. We placed our orders, paid and got our drinks and took a seat. There is not really an area to sit and eat. After getting our food, taking it with us was our only choice. Even though we had wanted to eat it while it was fresh and hot, it felt uncomfortable to sit there and eat. So we took our food and left. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, with rice and cabbage. It was good but we live about 20 minutes or more away and it was cool to cold by the time we got home and inside it was close to half an hour later before sitting down to eat. The jerk flavor was good. The meal was okay, the service not so much. It makes a difference too, the food may be okay but when the service is not. Will kill a business. 3 Stars it is what it is 01205

Absolutely some of the best jerk chicken I've ever had. I got the 10 piece jerk wings and they were devoured once I got in my car. Perfect blend of spices, tang, and a hint of sweetness with the rub and sauce used on them. Absolutely recommend to anyone who loves Jamaican cuisine.

    First visit. Won't be last.

We popped in during the lunch hour on a Friday because, TBH Hakka Chow was closed. And we are glad we did. Since moving out of Winston-Salem to the country we don't see new restaurants in Winston as much as we used to. This Jamaican place opened up just under a year ago and is a solid replacement for our previous favorite Jamaican place, Irie Rhythms (RIP). First things first, we really enjoyed the lunch specials. Curry chicken and brown stewed chicken. Served with cabbage and rice and peas. Both chicken dishes were tender and flavorful, though not mouth scorchingly spicy. Would eat again tomorrow if I could. It's a small, clean place, with four tables and some "bar" seating, as well as a bathroom, which was also clean. No table service. You order up front and they package it in to go containers even if you're dining in. My wife characterized the young(ish) man working the register (and perhaps also cooking) as having a "gentle soul." We enjoyed chatting with him about the challenges and learning curve of opening a new restaurant. If you tried this place before and weren't 100% satisfied, give them another look.

Decided to try Irie Plates last minute the other day. Online ordering was fairly easy. Their system sends confirmation, an estimated time for pickup, and a notification when the food is actually ready. The location was formerly Ava's cupcakes, so I knew exactly where they were. GPS had no issues navigating to their door. Food was ready upon arrival. I walked in to an room and an empty counter. There are a couple of tables for seating, but this is meant for take-out. After about 30 seconds, a man appeared from the back and asked how he could help me. He wasn't rude, but he also wasn't enthusiastic about assisting a customer. I told him I had a to-go order and gave him my name. Sure enough, the food was ready just as the text implied. I ordered an Oxtail plate with sautéed cabbage and rice & pease, and a Ting to drink. The drink was in the bag with the food when I arrived. I would have preferred them to take it freshly out of the cooler at pickup. The food was warm, but not hot. Not sure if the drink had anything to do with that. The Oxtail was tender and a decent portion of meat and gravy was served. The flavor was the closest to my favorite Irie Rhythms restaurant that closed. My only critique is that they're heavy handed with the pimento berries (all spice) it almost over powdered the dish. The cabbage wasn't too special, but it also wasn't spicy. The dish was served with. Couple of fried plantains. This was refreshing because it just completes the dish! Over all, I enjoyed my meal. I will likely return.

I was so excited to hear that we have another jamaican spot in the area, since I grew up in 220th and white planes rd in the bronx I would eat at a jamaican restaurant almost every week and let me just say that this is one of my new favorite places now loved the vibe in the restaurant, the service was great the young man that was there was very friendly, and yes there was a wait time and they did run out of a few things but that's what happened when you are making food fresh every day there is no extra in the fridge, lol the only thing that wou make this place better is if they put up some bulletproof windows on the counter, so I could feel like I'm back home just joking I got the oxtail with the rice and peas , needed more gravy but he did tell me they was no more gravy but that did not affect the taste of it at all, so full of flavor and tender.i also got the carry goat with rice and peas but they ran out of the rice so I got it with the white rice had just the right amount of carry and I t was prob better with the whites rice as well also got the beef patties with a coco bread 10 out of 10

I normally order in person or get the brown stew chicken via Doordash. I opted for a beef patty and the jerk wings. Unfortunately this was inedible. The chicken was over cooked to the point it was not edible. The spice level was perfect but the chicken was so dry I couldn't chew it. It was also not packed well as sauce was all in the bag and the styrofoam box was used instead of the foil pans or the round plastic ones. I really wasted my money as I didn't even get a full refund for something I cannot even eat. The beef patty was decent but had no spice.

Mixed reviews here so I was a little apprehensive but I had a Caribbean craving. Walk in, ordered to go. Jerk chicken. It took a while but this is not fast food and it looked like only a couple of ladies working. The place was small but clean. It looked and smelled great. I couldn't resist taking a bite as soon as I got to the car. It was really good. Perfect spice profile on the sauce. Rice and beans were fluffy and the cabbage veggie mix was just right. They must have been out of the plantain that I saw some pix. Price was fair and I got two meals out of my order. I will be going back to try the curried goat. Be patient while they are trying to get established. It will be worth it.

In the past I have enjoyed the food. This visit was disappointing. The cabbage was too spicy and the rice & peas were bland. My biggest complaint was the portion size. For $13 I expected the containers to be full. The service time was acceptable under the circumstances of limited employees. Will try again considering that they have been a staple restaurant in the community.

I very much enjoy good Caribbean cuisine, and had bookmarked this recently reopened Jamaican spot. I'm always a little gun shy with new spots as they rarely hit the ground running, organized and efficient! I phoned in my order - Oxtail ($23.50) and Brown Stewed Chicken ($13.50), both coming with rice and peas. This is rather expensive but pretty much in line with other Caribbean restaurants in the area. I was told 15 minutes for pickup - when I went to pick my order up I was told it would be another 10 minutes. When I came back 10 minutes later, I was told it would be another 5 minutes - since the first two time estimates I was given didn't happen I had little confidence that the third would either, so I cancelled the order. This is a small place with loud music and no air conditioning. The young gentleman I talked with has zero customer service ability, and when I cancelled the order he became rude, almost to the point of hostility. This entire experience would rate a negative numerical score! Ambiance - 1 Food - 0, never got any Value - 0, see above Service - 0

Food is great, but this is a place more designed for takeout. The rice and peas are amazing, jerk chicken spicy and plantains sweet.

I was especially interested in the Toasted Cuban Bread, the Authentic Cuban Sandwich, and the Pan Con Bistec, and tried them all over several visits, along with Chicharrones, Ceviche, plantains, Fried Chicken Sandwich, Ropa Vieja, Street Corn, and more. My experiences here were definitely a mixed bag with both the food and the service. On one visit the service would be fine, and on the next it would be awful. Time for food to arrive on the table varied greatly, even when the restaurant was not especially busy. The Cuban Sandwich is decent but it doesn't scream "South Florida". I was more impressed with the Pan Con Bistec, a better choice in my opinion, as is the Fried Chicken Sandwich especially with a side of sweet plantains or yucca fries. The Toasted Cuban Bread, the Street Corn, and the Ceviche were also pretty good choices, as are the Chicharroes. I did not care for the Ropa Vieja at all, nor the Cuban Deluxe Sandwich, too much going on, croquettes adversely effected both the taste and the texture if the Cuban! I was sorry to hear that the restaurant will close permanently on Aug 24th. The owners site a drop in business due to the downtown parking situation (which likely will only get worse with the coming changes), safety concerns by potential customers, as well as rising costs in almost all areas of operation. Winston will lose yet another solid, sit down restaurant, most likely to be replaced by another fast, casual spot with a trendy, funky menu.

The sauce/dip that comes with the yucca fries was bomb - some kind of aioli. The cocktail drinks were okay - a bit small and watered down but the food was awesome! Would come again.
