    Jerk Chicken Meal
    Nicole H.

This review shall reflect their quality of food. Basic! Their food truck appears to be clean. The sanitation grade is displayed if you're concerned about that. Service is typical for a food truck, nothing worth mentioning. The main attraction, their food! I paid $19 for the most basic jerk chicken I've ever had. If this is what food taste like in Jamaica, I'm scratching it off my list to visit! There is nothing with recommending on this plate. Unseasoned chicken and cabbage. The rice and peas had the most flavor out of everything but that is not worth $19. Their chicken is comparable in to rotisserie chicken with some kind of sauce (didn't taste like jerk to me). Overall, I'd skip this place. The price and quality does not match.

After weeks of trying I was finally able to order food from this food truck located at the corner of Reynolda and Fairlawn. I called in my order of the Oxtail Meal and the Jerk Chicken Meal! Once I got there I had to wait in line, and the entire order processing is incredibly slow. After I paid, I was given a beeper to notify me when my order was ready - calling in the order accomplished nothing - time to get my order was nearly 40 minutes. The three people in line when I arrived received their food before me even though I'd call the order in over 10 minutes earlier! Not good so far, and of course it was destined to get worse. When I opened my order, miles away, I found that only half my paid for order was there - the Jerk Chicken had flown away. I had no energy to go back into that maelstrom of utter foolishness. I took my losses knowing full well that this bad roll of the dice was not yet done - and of course I was too right! The oxtail was quite nice, what there was of it - after that it was rice with the fewest beans I've encountered in this Jamaican staple, cabbage that was the least of what Jamaican cabbage can be! There is a reason why dogs that chase trucks often live, or not, and I find a life lesson in that thought! I will not chase this truck or its lame food and deplorable service again. Ambiance - 0 Food - 3 Service - 0 Value - 1

Tried this place for the second time and the only changes from my first review was there weren't any butter beans in my oxtail and I tried the new sweet corn menu item. The corn was very sweet with a mildly spicy and salty butter sauce and dollop of sour cream. I felt the sour cream was unnecessary. While the corn was very good, they shouldn't be charging $3.99 for one quarter of an ear. They should have included 2. It's seems like they're gaining popularity. There were 2 customers ahead of me when I arrived and more coming after I left. Maybe next time, I'll try the stew chicken and a beef patty. Customer service was still good, but you do have to wait at least 5 minutes for your food.

I have eaten at Da Ragge, La Palma, and Calypso Mama in Greensboro, Dixon's Jamaican in Burlington, and a few others. In this area, I've tried Outta D Kitchen, Ah Fiwi, & Taste Jamaica in WS. I finally got around to trying this spot a few times, which has been around for a while, the oldest Yelp review was over 16 years ago. They have received just over 2.5 reviews a year, but somehow are still here. I ordered the Oxtail, a favorite - called in the order, based on Yelp reviews this seemed the way to go. On another occasion I tried the Curry Goat. The Oxtail and Curry Goat were very good, tender and flavorful, and the serving size was reasonable. On one visit the cabbage was well seasoned, but rather bland on the other. The rice and peas were just ok, and the plantains lacked softness and sweetness. I almost certainly come again - I want to try the Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken, the Pepper Steak, and for sure the Turkey Necks.

They took my order, asked my name, and told me when to expect my order to be ready. Yeh Mon's is located on lockland Ave. just off of Silas Creek Blvd. Its bright green and yellow store front confirms you're in the right place before you even read a word from the sign. I waited the exact amount of time they told me before going inside. I walked into a tight, but bright carry out area, which can only hold maybe 2 people at a time. If you do a walk-in to-go order, you should probably wait in your car after ordering. I was greeted and asked if I had a picked up order and was asked my name. The food was ready when I arrived, and I paid $25 for 1 oxtail plate. Considering how much oxtail are in the grocery store, this is a deal for not having to prepare them myself. The food was still piping hot when I arrived home 20 minutes away. They gave generous serving of oxtail (about 5-6 pieces). -The oxtail and its gravy were flavorful, and the meat was super tender and filling. The best I've had since Rhythms closed. -The cabbage was flavored well but was a little too salty. The rice and peas were bland. It didn't taste like they cooked it with coconut milk like I've had from other jamaican restaurants. Overall, the great customer service and excellent oxtail earned them 4 stars. I'll certainly put them in rotation for regular spots to visit.

As a local restaurant offering a unique International cuisine, I think Irie Plates Restaurant & Bar…read moredoes a wonderful job. The menu covers the most popular/well-known Jamaican dishes like Jerk Chicken, Ox Tails, Cabbage, and Rice and Peas. In addition, they have various other jerk dishes, Jamaican patties, Escovovich and other Caribbean cuisine specialties. I had the rice and peas, an order of cabbage, and a side of plantains to go. Although it was a very busy time of evening (dinner service) with lots of to-go orders, the person taking the orders was very patient and remained calm with everyone, even as things picked up. The ambiance is already set with the dark walls and eclectic vibe of the furniture, but the customers all seemed to pick up on it, too. We all patiently waited for what we knew were about to be some delectable dishes! I look forward to going to Irie Plates Restaurant & Bar every chance I can get. This place is officially Kiesha Speech approved! Go check it out and let me know what you think.

Walk up counter service, was less than friendly. We stood at the counter for several minutes before anyone even came to the counter. I smiled and said thank you and appreciated him taking our order, but the guy behind the counter was not friendly at all nor gracious. We were the only people in the place too. No thanks for coming in, nothing. We placed our orders, paid and got our drinks and took a seat. There is not really an area to sit and eat. After getting our food, taking it with us was our only choice. Even though we had wanted to eat it while it was fresh and hot, it felt uncomfortable to sit there and eat. So we took our food and left. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, with rice and cabbage. It was good but we live about 20 minutes or more away and it was cool to cold by the time we got home and inside it was close to half an hour later before sitting down to eat. The jerk flavor was good. The meal was okay, the service not so much. It makes a difference too, the food may be okay but when the service is not. Will kill a business. 3 Stars it is what it is 01205

I was especially interested in the Toasted Cuban Bread, the Authentic Cuban Sandwich, and the Pan Con Bistec, and tried them all over several visits, along with Chicharrones, Ceviche, plantains, Fried Chicken Sandwich, Ropa Vieja, Street Corn, and more. My experiences here were definitely a mixed bag with both the food and the service. On one visit the service would be fine, and on the next it would be awful. Time for food to arrive on the table varied greatly, even when the restaurant was not especially busy. The Cuban Sandwich is decent but it doesn't scream "South Florida". I was more impressed with the Pan Con Bistec, a better choice in my opinion, as is the Fried Chicken Sandwich especially with a side of sweet plantains or yucca fries. The Toasted Cuban Bread, the Street Corn, and the Ceviche were also pretty good choices, as are the Chicharroes. I did not care for the Ropa Vieja at all, nor the Cuban Deluxe Sandwich, too much going on, croquettes adversely effected both the taste and the texture if the Cuban! I was sorry to hear that the restaurant will close permanently on Aug 24th. The owners site a drop in business due to the downtown parking situation (which likely will only get worse with the coming changes), safety concerns by potential customers, as well as rising costs in almost all areas of operation. Winston will lose yet another solid, sit down restaurant, most likely to be replaced by another fast, casual spot with a trendy, funky menu.

The sauce/dip that comes with the yucca fries was bomb - some kind of aioli. The cocktail drinks were okay - a bit small and watered down but the food was awesome! Would come again.
