Authentic Jamaican Food has reached High Point! You want a bang for your buck, go here. You want go Jamaican Food, go here! This restaurant is a great find. If I am to pay $23 for oxtails they better be good and Island Fest delivered! Tender, plentiful, oxtails with peas and rice, sweet, juicy, hot plantains. Beef patty was flaky goodness. Ginger beer is a favorite of mine so of course I enjoyed a cold one while waiting for my food. Self order using iPads on the counter but the owner is there to assist with answers and help. If you're paying with cash you need to let her know and she will take your order. The restaurant is immaculate, it's definitely a vibe. I highly recommend Island Fest.

Flavored lemonade is great! Different sizes offered. No refills though. Which is a bummer considering the spicy food. Will always need something to cool you down. Everything is pretty much self serve. Not the friendliest crew working...lol but I get it. Food was great! Portions are good.

I finally made it to Island Fest and I will definitely be coming more often! The food is top tier. The stew beef was tender and flavorful. The service was great, the beautiful woman at the counter answered all my questions. I loved the welcoming feeling of the restaurant and felt like I belonged.

Shrimp, rice and peas, amazing cabbage, and plantains.

I ordered the beef stew with a side of cabbage and yellow rice, and everything was absolutely delicious. The beef was tender and flavorful, the cabbage was perfectly seasoned, and the rice tied the whole plate together beautifully. I also tried their beef patties, and let me just say--amazing! Flaky, savory, and packed with just the right amount of spice. Not only was the food hot and fresh, but the staff were super friendly and welcoming. The good vibes and authentic flavors really made it feel like a taste of the islands right here in town. Highly recommend if you're craving flavorful comfort food with island flair. I'll definitely be back!

While the Khrissy's Kitchen truck makes its rounds at Brown Truck fairly regularly, High Point was without a Jamaican restaurant until Island Fest recently opened its doors. It's a welcome addition, and while it has room to grow and improve, there's reason enough to be hopeful. Housed in the former Lone Star Burger (they kept the cow out front and adorned it with a Jamaican flag), Island Fest is geared toward takeout and quick service. Dining in is an option, and the folks here seem friendly, but you're coming for the food, not the ambiance. Speaking of the food, the offerings here aren't as extensive as they are at Da Reggae Café, but if you have a Jamaican craving, you'll likely find something that can satisfy it. Entrees range from jerks and curries to fried fish to brown stew beef, quick bites include various patties and coco bread, and sides cover the requisite rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains as well as mac and cheese. They were out of curry shrimp when I placed my order, so I went with fried red snapper in its stead along with jerk chicken, a beef patty, and coco bread. The entrees are available in smaller and larger sizes and include rice and plantains. My wife and I were hoping to get several meals out of our order and did so for under $50. While Island Fest's early reviews complained about portion sizes, the larger-sized entrees left no room for complaint on that end. The food was a bit uneven, but there were more bright spots than disappointments. Thankfully, Island Fest does not tone itself down for mass appeal: the beef patty and jerk chicken brought a welcome bit of heat. The snapper was nicely breaded and paired well with a peppery barbecue sauce. Speaking of sauces, Island Fest lets you pick a gravy for your rice. We got to try both the curry and the oxtail gravies, and both were delicious. While the rice was a top-tier side, the cabbage and coco bread were forgettable, and the sweet plantains weren't particularly sweet. Island Fest's early offerings are promising, and more may be on the horizon. As-is, this probably isn't the best Jamaican food you've had, but the entrees and sauces can hold their own.

My friend and I have been wanting to try this place out. It didn't disappoint. Not pictured but their patties are delicious!

The food was DELICIOUS! My daughter got the jerk chicken, cabbage, rice, and plantains. All yummy! I got a jerk chicken patty and cheesy spinach patty. Delicious. The staff was friendly and very attentive. My parties took a while to cook, but they kept us in the know and worth the wait. The restaurant is very clean. I loved the cow and the outside seating. We will definitely be back.

3.5 stars. Clean and nice location with friendly, attentive staff. You order at a kiosk but they come help you. I was not fond of the plastic single use containers. Food was also not what I expected. I've had Jamaican shrimp curry before and it had a sauce. This did not. I ordered a side of curry gravy and it was not really gravy -- more like a thin curry broth. The plantains were sweet and delicious - my favorite part of the meal. My husband's jerk chicken tasted more like a tangy bbq chicken rather than the jerk chicken I've had in the past. He loved his blueberry lemonade. I would try it again, but based on this visit, I prefer Da Reggae Cafe in Greensboro. Good addition to the High Point restaurant scene!

Hey family. Happy Saturday! I tried Miss Johnnie Mae's a while back and I'm happy to report that I…read moreliked it much better than when I tried it prior. My initial introduction was when they were located in Stock and Grain Food Hall. I had wanted to try them for a while and luckily I was invited to a Yelp Event where I was able to sample some items. In all fairness, I absolutely loved the service but maybe it was an off night but at the time I wasn't a fan. But as some months passed, they are no longer in Stock and Grain but in a food truck in High Point. I highly suggest following their Facebook page for dates and times where you can catch them. The service was still wonderful and the food was really good. The sweet potato cornbread is one of my favs and the chicken wings and catfish bites were fried to perfection. I love collard greens but do understand, everyone makes them differently. My family is from eastern NC so we make ours savory, theirs have a little sweetness to it. I don't mind it but this time around was so much better, it was very well balanced. The mac and cheese was delicious as well. Although not pictured, do check out their Russian tea drink. I felt very nostalgic and I have no other words but it was great. I try to savor it when I get some. I wish he sold them in half gallon jugs because I would buy it. That's how good it is. They have other items like Rasta pasta, oxtails, pork chops, and turkey wings. I can't wait to come back and try more food. Give them a follow and check them out. You won't be disappointed.

The beef patties were also delicious. The crust was perfect, and the filling was flavorful and authentic. I found the Jamaican Conch Fritters to be a bit overcooked, with an unexpected sweetness. The Sweet taste was okay..... It was just overcooked. Most disappointingly was the Ackee and Saltfish plate. The consistency was overly mushy, the inclusion of large cherry tomatoes was unexpected, and the cabbage was undercooked. Sidenote.....the rice and plantains were enjoyable.
