    Irish Potato's

Love going to the Irish Democrat! I came here for a lunch with my mom and the service was great! (As usual) Food came out fast and hot. Highly recommend the Irish potatoes and cheese wantons! They also have amazing sandwiches, I've never had food here I didn't like.

    Trying the ribs

Haven't been here in years, but a group of friends decided to try it for dinner. The place was packed on a Saturday night so service was slow, but our waitress was friendly and helpful despite being slammed. I had the ribs which were OK, but nothing special. Kind of on the meh side. The garlic otoatoes were better after I asked fir butter. They were dry and nothing special. The cocktails were good, but nothing special. I will note that a friend had a sandwich and it looked much better than what I had. Might go back, but I'd skip the ribs.

This place has been on my radar for some time. I just thought it was "ok". We started with the cheese wontons and they really didn't have much flavor. My husband and I shared the tenderloin and onion rings. Again, it was just ok. My daughters had chicken strips and fries and a friend had a burger and fries. Nothing to write home about, but the service was good.

I just love this authentic Irish pub. Irish Democrat is my favorite place to eat in the area. They have amazing, delicious food and the best Irish coffees in town. The staff is always very friendly, kind, and helpful. In addition, the atmosphere is very serene and calm with their nicely dimly lit interior with great pictures, paintings, portraits, etc... decorating their walls. I always order their Strawberry Poppyseed Salad and add to it: cucumbers, feta, and bacon, along with the normal dressing that comes on it but I add a side of ranch as well. It is very much so one of the best salads I have ever had! Pair that salad with a delicious Irish coffee and you have a mouthwatering, wonderful lunch or dinner. My daughter loves their Democrat house burger which has on it: sauteed green peppers, onion, and mushrooms with provolone cheese. Really, the whole menu has something for everyone and they are very good about making additions or subtractions to their variety of delicious meals. I definitely recommend this place for everyone! A definite must try!

A classic in CR! The vibe is moody Irish pub with the friendliest staff! Two words- cheese wontons.

Food and service was very good. RESTAURANT is dated and needs some TLC. Furniture is worn and carpet needs to Be replaced etc.

Good bar, usually a handful of specialty drinks that are worth trying. Menu is always good, and you can count on good service.

The patio is nice, great tables and the servers paid close attention to what we may want/need in the food realm. My friend got a Greek salad and really enjoyed it. I got a burger with BBQ sauce that was messy as all get out and so worth it. Got the dipping fries and willing to say I was really surprised with how tasty they were. They are unique too so maybe made in house. The jerks with two dogs, one was really aggressive trying to attack someone else's dog that was totally chill. That definitely means a deduction even though there were rules posted, it didn't seem the staff was going to bother and I get that it is pretty awkward. Seems like the staff would have to hear the ruckus cause the dogs were by the entrance to the place. The other folks took their dog back to the car. It was the sort of outward aggression that would make me wary if they are regulars. We had already ordered and gotten our food so we simply kept a watchful eye out.

We found a table, but then another person told us they had a waitlist, but then let us sit there. We waited awhile before anyone came to our table. Once we had a server, things went well. I think they need a better way to handle the wait list. Our food was excellent and the patio was clean and lively! Everyone here works hard and works as a team. We will definitely return.

Even with everyone standing around the doorway (there is not much in the way of a waiting area), I was spotted right away and they took my name and said it would be a 30-40 minute wait. Turns out it was only about 20 minutes and we were seated in a comfy booth. The servers were super efficient given how busy it was. We ordered the cheese curds and they were nice and hot. I especially liked them because I prefer breading over beer battered. I ordered the F-3 with sweet potato fries and marshmallow. The sweet potato fries were a little soft/soggy even though they looked burnt, and the burger was a little more red than pink, but that's just a personal preference. It was still a solid burger. My husband ordered the F-3 Both, which looked delicious, and the cheese and jalapeno macaroni salad is always a win. My son ordered the F-4 with FF. He's loves a good burger, and wanted to eat it all, but the portion was large enough that he just couldn't. It was loud and energetic, and we had to talk a little louder, but overall it was a nice dinner out with good food!

So the staff is attentive and pleasant. I had a craft root beer (Barn Town Brewery from West Des Moines), that was really good as root beers go. We had appetizer Nachos, which were on Taco flavored Doritos. Nachos were solid but a little light on the beef and cheese sauce for my taste. The Soup, Salad and Breadstick was good and a perfect size for a smaller appetite. My friend had a Midwest BBQ Smash Burger without the bun, he would order it again. I had the Hangover Smash and it was a great bacon cheeseburger - add peanut butter (sounds weird but it was great), an egg, some bacon and smashed tater tots and life is good, with or without the hangover. The Irish decor is a nice touch as this was an Irish pub once upon a time. We enjoyed our meal and we will return, I loved the smash burgers.

Our server greeted us as soon as we walked in and was friendly enough. The food left MUCH to be desired. We ordered a bowl of wild rice soup with a side of the beer battered fries, the Italian sandwich with fries and the fish and chips. Instead of a bowl, a cup came out, which isn't a huge deal and is an easy fix. The soup was extra thick and wasn't heated all the way through. Almost cold in the middle. The Italian sandwich was ok, it contained all of the ingredients listed on the menu, and it was on bread about the size of a hot dog bun. The fish and chips, for $19, was probably the most disappointing. The fish was cooked well and tasted good, but both pieces together was about the same size as one of Gorton's battered fish filets. Given that there were only 3 occupied tables the whole time we were there, I expected more from the kitchen, especially given the price. I give it 2 stars instead of 1 for the server doing her job, and the fries were good. If I go back, it'll be for drinks, definitely not the sub-mediocre food. Note: The photo- Split, so it's on a smaller plate. Notice the size of the piece of fish. This was the size of both pieces. I wish I could say it was an oversized fork.
