Great food with a great deal of history! Great service also. A real treat and must see.

This place was the coolest thing ever!! Stay in room 20. It has a parlor and is just gorgeous! Loved it. Full of history and heritage.

Wow. I thought this place was a little creepy but it was awesome! Very comfortable and cozy. Big rooms, charming decor, lots of history in this place. True Buffalo Bill cowboy country. I think it is named the Irma because that was Bill Cody's wife's name. The bar and restaurant add to the historical setting. Have the bartender tell you about the bar. I can't remember, but I think it was imported from Europe by Bill Cody himself. One added tidbit: after my first night in the hotel I asked the hotel manager if they'd had a wild night playing poker up on the floor above me. He asked what I was talking about-- no, there hadn't been a night of cavorting... and added I was on the top floor. After a brief pause he said that people hear ghosts all the time! I kept waiting for them to come back (I stayed 4 nights) but they didn't. Now I'll have to go back to the Irma! read more

This review is for the restaurant, specifically the Saturday buffet. As previous Yelpers have noted, this hotel was built by Buffalo Bill Cody and named after his wife, Irma. The dining room is right out of the old west and worth a visit if only for a drink. My wife passed on the buffet but loved the Western Reuben. I had the buffet. The buffet includes salad and desert bars which, I confess, I never visited. I had the roast beef which was excellent. The beef tips with rice which were good. The mixed veggies, ok. And the mashed red potatoes which I could eat all day. They also had lasagna, buffalo sloppy Joe's and other dishes which I chose to bypass. It was the roast beef that tickled my fancy. For dessert we shared some whiskey sauce with a bit of bread pudding on the side. Out waitress was helpful, attentive and funny. If I'm ever in Cody again I'll hit the buffet again. One tip - the Saturday buffet is considerably less expensive than the evening one. read more

We visited the hotel on off season therefore had no wait and was welcomed to a nearly empty restaurant. I ordered the 8 oz sirloin and was blown away by the flavor. Probably the best steak I had while in Cody. The feel of the place is great and I highly suggest bringing a camera because you will be taking lots of pics. My wife had the ribeye and a friend got the chicken lot pie. They both loved their meals. Highly recommended. read more

Very unique...full of history! They have a killer gift shop! My husband found the coolest hat in the shop. Plenty of unique women's items such as clothing, jewelry and other trinkets. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants but heard good things from friends who have. We did sit on the patio, have a drink and people watch. Next time I'm in Cody, WY and need a place to stay, this would be on the top of my list of places to stay! read more

Ate there late on a Sunday night. I loved the old time decor and the animals especially since we had just come from Yellowstone. The food was simply ok. Hubs & I split a chicken fried steak that was rather bland. Mash potatoes were the same. Kids had chicken strips and fried fish that were ok. The fries were good though! read more

Came to Irma for the 6pm gunfight they have for free in the summer! Good laughs & fun to watch. My husband & I went to the bar and enjoyed a couple drinks after the show, the bartenders were so sweet and genuinely interested in helping us have a great trip! I love the feel of the past. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The room could use better furniture, but was clean and sufficient. The dining room makes you feel like you are back 100 years. Just what I was looking for. The food was great and the staff was very attentive and friendly. I will definitely return, but next time I will stay longer. The only negative would be the posting of the political signs on the exterior. That was very tacky, but should go away after election (I hope) read more

Just stayed at The Irma. They have both period rooms and regular rooms. We stayed in a period room and it was fabulous. A spacious room with great period details: antique furniture, lamps, fixtures, woodwork, wallpaper. It's like stepping back in time 100 years except for the flat screen TV. For a history buff or someone that enjoys old warm charm or if you're looking for something a little different while on vacation, this is a great hotel. read more

We got back to Cody after a day in Yellowstone. We were tired and starving. Just wanted to eat and get back to our room. The service at the Irma Restaurant was fast and the buffet was ready. My husband ate two pieces of prime rib and chicken, too. Everything was delicious. We also loved the old west atmosphere. read more

I was super excited to stay in Cody, WY for it's historical reasons and was supposed to drive out of Yellowstone's East Gate and into Cody, but a snowstorm forced us to drive six hours out of our way, so we were a bit cranky when we got there. The Irma is located on Cody's main street, which isn't that impressive on a cold, blustery night. From the outside, the hotel doesn't look that great and you have to park in a dark, shady-seeming side parking lot, which was also the view from our room. Though the hallways and rooms have some rustic charm -- something like I imagine a cheap bordello would be --the place feels rundown and kindof old without any new energy. It was tough for us to find a good place to eat dinner and breakfast was so-so. My favorite thing was the buffalo coat hangers in the restaurant/bar area. The visit to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center -- or the Wild West Museum -- the next day was amazing, but I'm not sure I would recommend the hotel. read more

We were a party of six and all of us were very dissatisfied with the food and the waitress, Stefi. We had either the prime rib, meatloaf or salmon between us and none of it was good. The prime rib was more fat, than meat and was thin and tough. The salmon was dry and over cooked. The waitress never cracked even a smile and she did the bare minimum as far as service. We would not eat there again. I gave it a two for the history of the hotel. read more

We enjoy staying at the Irma Hotel. The historic rooms are comfortable. It's fun to think of what the hotel was like when first built. It's easy to imagine since the rooms are filled with antiques from the period. The Prime Rib buffet is a great deal and staff is friendly. Drinks at the bar are reasonable. Wyoming only has 5% sales tax. Why stay at a generic motel for the same price, when you can experience history? This hotel is a great value. read more

Great restaurant and bar! Food was great! Very friendly staff and very accommodating to kids. Very nice you can bring your children to this restaurant. Some places around here do not let you bring your kids if they serve alcoholic beverages so very happy to find this place and it's fun to learn the history and setting of great for Cody. read more

Buffalo Bill Cody is rolling over in his grave!!!! We booked this because we wanted a more authentic experience while staying in Cody. The staff were from Russia on a work exchange program. This would be fine if they were not the "face" of the hotel, ie front desk, bartender, servers, everyone we talked to was international. We didn't speak to a local in the hotel or restaurant until we checked out. When we asked for a recommendation on breakfast places, they told us about the Chinese and Mexican restaurants down the street. We stayed in a standard room. The room was clean. You could hear every step the guests upstairs took. We didn't sleep a wink. The air conditioning was pitiful and in mid July with no window, you need the AC. When we checked out, the owners were finally at the front desk. It took 20 minutes to check out because the work exchange kids had charged us for 3 nights instead of 2. They remarked, "I guess we need to send them back to housekeeping." Of course, we caught the mistake and not the owners. The Irma will continue to survive on first timers like myself who are looking for the local Cody flavor. You will be disappointed to find an unprofessional hotel run by Russian work exchange teenagers who know nothing about the area. This is deifnitely NOT a place for children. read more

The food off their menu is typical greasy spoon fair. They are also well known for their buffets. These will consist of hardy foods- roasts, a lot of steamed veggies and maybe pork and for dessert you can try their bread pudding. Just beware that the whiskey sauce it is served with comes strong! The food isn't really what you come for though. The history is though. Owned by Buffalo Bill and named after a daughter, the place is packed full of history and interesting decor, from the countless taxidermic heads to the cherry wood bar that was a gift from Queen Victoria. read more

I was impressed with the atmosphere of this hotel. It has a very old-fashioned look and feel. It's beautiful. Unfortunately, being old-fashioned, the walls are thin. I woke up this morning (ironically I am writing a review using this hotel's own wifi) at about 4:30 to the sound of excessive banging just below me. My room is apparently above the kitchen and they are getting a large delivery this morning. So now I am awake hours earlier than I intended to be awake. I called the front desk at about 5:00 asking if I could have my room moved for the last night of my 3 night stay. I spoke to a person apparently named "front desk." He said to stop by later and tell whoever is at the front desk that it was too loud and they should be able to get me moved. No apology for the inconvenience. No offer to help. Someone else should be able to take care of you. "Front desk" was entirely indifferent to the matter. And the noise continued. Since I am wide awake early in the morning, I looked around for a different hotel for my last night's stay in Cody. When I called down and spoke to "front desk," informing him that I would be checking out this morning his response was simply, "OK." Again, no apology, no anything. I got the impression that my calling him was an inconvenience on his part. A friend is also staying here with his family. He had originally booked the Buffalo Bill suite and, upon arriving, was informed that he could not have his child in that room. It was recently updated and served as a conference room, as well as a suite ( according to the lady checking us in). Her only reasoning for not allowing them to have the room was that it contains a conference table. Well, obviously you can't have a kid in the same room as a conference table. Everyone knows that. Right? In general, the hotel's motto seems to be " No Substitutions!" In short, the hotel is nice enough to look at, and I recommend stopping by just to see it. The customer service has been sub-par and I don't recommend anyone staying here if they value good customer service. I will be staying at a more current hotel tonight, where the employees also have current people skills. read more

overall the service was great. it was very well preserved to match the era it was built and the decorations . the food was pricy and there was not a lot of food when you get it. i was disappointed in the lac of food but the buffalo burger was good. the gun fight was funny too! overall ok experience but not the best. read more

I'm a Cody native returning on vacation in the off season and the food wasn't that great and server was not attentive. The restaurant had only 3-4 tables with customers. I usually have a great time at the bar though! Great decor and history. Wish the food was better. read more

Spent a day here on the way to the 2015 Black Hills Classic and stayed in the hotel for a night on the way west from the "Classic". The nightlife, community, and social aspects of this town are five stars but the hotel is a little dated. What a nice social scene though. If I am lucky enough to make it back there next August I will stay there. Amazing people there; we met a hot mature Hollywood looking blond gal in the bar, Said she was there making a movie about women and guns, with a big knife on her belt and a gun in her purse, she got thrown out of the bar across the street later in the evening, LOL, Wyoming is AWESOME! read more

While on vacation my three friends and I stayed at the Erma. We enjoyed the bar and bid everyone good night, only to have people knock on our door several times. We did not give out our room number and we were not followed to our room. Someone at the hotel gave out our room number! When we called the front desk to complain, there was no real response. I was asked what I wanted him to do. The next morning we told the owner what had occurred and he DID NOT care. This was not a safe place for four women. We promptly packed and left in the morning. Breakfast at Grannies was great! The Irma has lost out on any repeat business from my group as well as meals and drinks. If you want a SAFE place to stay, it is not the Irma! read more

We stayed for 3 days in late June 2015 and enjoyed experiencing the history, seeing the cherry bar and we agreed we wouldn't have wanted to have missed staying there. The room was extremely clean. Check in was rocky with flustered staff, a stuffy, small area, and a disappointing discovery that our room had no window, though I had confirmed twice that it did in weeks prior to coming. Attempts though, at service recovery were made by management in free buffet coupons and the surprise of a nice bottle of wine in our room which was appreciated, though there was no availability of a room with a window to switch to. The cleaning staff was personable, the waitresses in the restaurant were all precious and the food at the buffet was average. I did have the bread pudding with whiskey sauce one night and it was lovely with coffee. We did not stay in a historic room (probably should have for the experience). Most enjoyable were the hallways, the historic pictures, the woodwork and just basic atmosphere of the Irma Hotel. We walked through the bar and spent some time on the porch and both had an historic feel. We wouldn't have missed it. read more
