This was a first visit to the iron roost. Craving something sweet, I had my mind set on the famous waffles from the iron roost as recommended by a friend. I used the no wait app which indicated a wait of 45-50 minutes. The wait ended up being and hour and 15 minutes. Atmosphere - This is a unique spot, not a far drive from downtown Saratoga down route 9 in ballston spa. It is busy and bustling! Service - The hostess was very friendly, as was the girl who took our order at the counter. Food - the food was excellent. It came out in a matter of minutes after we were seated. I got the lemon marscapone waffle and a side of bacon. My boyfriend got the southwestern fiesta. We ordered Samoa coffees and a cookie to have while we waited. The samoa coffee is seasonal, get it while you can! The taste of everything was excellent. I would go back for the delicious food alone! I did have to request a new fork as mine was quite dirty, old food stuck on it. Value - the value of the food for the cost is excellent! I would go back to eat , however the wait even with adding to the waitlist before we got there was a bit much. I would however wait until the app says there is only a 10-15 minute wait. While the atmosphere is unique and lively, there still seems to be some flow issues. Upon entering it is very confusing as to where the hostess is. The building is separated left and right. The right side is the waiting area and the left side is the dining area. You wait for your text to come to be able to go up to the counter to order your food after which you are seated. The waiting area gets crowded and is confusing to some. You can order coffee and enjoy in the waiting area while you are waiting for your table. It is first come first serve basis seating. You can order food and sit out there if you wish. The atmosphere in the waiting area isn't as nice as the actually dining area, but it's an option. They have lots of gifts and iron roost attire, including coffee! read more

Absolutely adorable restaurant in Ballston Spa. One of the best breakfast places around. They are well known for their custom waffle creations both sweet and savory. Service is always fast and super friendly. Definitely kid friendly. Also they have a tree nut/nut free waffle station as well. They have a solid cup of coffee both hot and cold brew in the summer. Not cheap though breakfast for 4.5 was $57. So we make this our two time a year spot. read more

Good breakfast, good service. Not exceptional. The staff was very friendly. This joint earns 3*s for a couple of reasons: 1. The wait. OMG, if you're looking for a Sunday breakfast spot and it's after 8am, LOOK ELSEWHERE! 90 + minute wait this morning when we were told 45 at 9:15am. The seating is sparse and the turnover is slow. 2. For a family of 4 (2 children, ages 6 & 4), we left about $60 poorer. Not terrible, I suppose, but then I thought about what we ordered: two moderate breakfast plates ("Early Riser"s) and two kids' waffle sticks, and drinks. Not exactly a bargain. The homemade waffles were good but not life-changing. While we wont be making plans to make The Iron Roost a destination, we wont actively avoid it if we're in the area. Very disappointed in my meal today. Two stars because my husband liked his meal. He had a Benedict with lox. I ordered soft scrambled eggs for my waffle. The person at the register said OK so I expected them to be correct. When my order arrived they were brown around the edges and solid. scrambled eggs are meant to be fluffy. These were quite the opposite. I told my server my dilemma and When they came back they told me it was hard to get soft scrambled and still melt the cheese. I said I would rather have soft scrambled with cheese on the side if that was the case. When the first order was given to the chef they should have come out and told me they couldn't accommodate. When the second plate arrived I was shocked to see that they were completely brown and hard as a rock. It looks like they use a round mold which created more of a fried egg. Needless to say I did not eat my meal. As I was finishing my tea it was clear that I would not be eating and although several workers passed my table no one stopped in to inquire (clearly because it was obvious I was unhappy). I had the BLT and asked for a GF option on a whim, thinking no way am I going to get GF here. She said Yes and no problem!! what? GF waffle options in Ballston Spa? Huzzah! That is amazing! So I am in love with this place just for that! The sandwich was delicious, GF waffle and all! The egg cooked perfectly and the bacon, crisp! My niece on the other hand felt cheated as the dish she regularly orders came under-dressed and not the same quality that she usually gets. So it may be inconsistent here, at worst. As I said before the place was packed so I know I was going to be a little bit until we got our food BUT 2 parties of 2 people sat next to us and ordered AFTER us and received their meal first...WTF? When our food did come out it was not as desirable as it sounded in the menu. My sandwich was editable that's it and I eat it because I was hungry. The waffle that acted as the roll for my sandwich was soggy and falling apart. When I think of a waffle I think firm outside and soft chewy inside. Far from that though. My home fries had way too much black pepper in them, that all I tasted. My wife didn't care for hers as well but at least her waffle was cooked correctly. So, I have a mixed review of this place. I really wanted to like it more. I will start by saying the food was absolutely delicious and presentation was beautiful. The dining room was very cute and I liked how the front counter was in a separate room. I also liked that they had a sign at the front door that said to order at the counter so that you would know what to do. However, as soon as we walked past that sign we were greeted by a person who checked us in on a cell phone and said we would get a text when it was time to order at the counter. Because she was entering our information she had to stare at her phone while she was talking rather than looking at us. Disconnect already. The waiting area didn't have enough chairs for everyone to sit down and we kept looking at the empty tables in the dining room wondering why people weren't being moved in yet. We realized about 10 min into our wait that we were allowed to order coffee while we waited for a table. That would have been good to know when we were checked in at the beginning. After about 20 minutes, we got the text that it was time to order at the counter. Ordering was easy and the cashier was friendly. We went to our table and our food came fairly quickly. I asked if the potatoes were vegetarian and the server said "they're potatoes". I said "yes, but are they vegetarian...?" to which she said yes but it was clear that she was Very irritated by the question. She came right back with the rest of our plates and asked if we needed anything else so, I asked what kind of juice they had. She seemed very annoyed again and said they had all different kinds up in the case (but didn't name any). I asked if they had orange mango and they did. I assumed that we would pay for it at the end since we were already seated and had already paid for the rest of the meal. She said "no I will take the payment now so you don't get up again"..uh ok. Whatever. Awkward to be pulling out credit cards while we are just starting to eat. No one else at my table ordered juice because it seemed like a huge hassle to add more layers to the process. The ordering process was the reason for 3 stars. If basing it on food and decor alone it would have been 5 stars. I personally would go back to try it a second time because the food was so good but, I doubt that any of the other people in our party today would return due to the service style. Creative food that is wonderful to try. Waffles worth the experience. Quick to be served with a very friendly crew. Free refills a big plus on the cup of coffee. It can get very busy and you may end up waiting so don't plan in and out. However as we waited we were served coffee and even a refill (further proof of a very friendly crew). We learned that there is an app you can reserve with so that could be worth a try on our next visit. Don't know where to start. Because of all the positive reviews I wanted to love this place too and was looking forward to trying it BUT unfortunately I was not a fan. When we first arrived it was packed so I was hopeful this was a good sign. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait and we all agreed we would wait as we hoped it would be worth it. We were called to eat after about the 45 minute wait and proceeded to a counter to order our food -still feeling a bit uncomfortable about heat and ordering process I still felt ok as I was looking forward to being wowed by the food. I ordered the make your own leige waffle with bananas, Avacado chocolate mousse and carmelized apples. It looked ok coming out - a lot smaller than I expected - and upon first bite of the waffle it was awful - horrible consistency as I was expecting a pastry like Belgium waffle and this waffle was like sawdust and totally tasteless. The toppings were ok as I took a tiny bite of each to try - nothing to leave home over. I took the waffle to the counter and told the girl I was not pleased and she said I could get a regular waffle in its place and I agreed. The 2nd regular waffle came out limp and seemed even smaller than the first and my toppings were quite skimpy. The taste was bland and the toppings were just ok. Such a disappointment. The other members of the party were not wowed either by the limp bland waffles, over cooked over easy eggs or tasteless potatoes. Between the wait , the heat , the ordering process and the food I left totally bewildered about this place and agreed with the rest of the party that we would not be returning any time soon. My one star rating is based on store appearance - upon entering I thought the place looked newer wave and hip - and food presentation - looked ok but lacked taste. read more

It has an awesome rustic chic friendly feeling and the staff is so welcoming! I've ordered specials whenever I come and they are incredible. They can make any of your orders gluten free -chocolate chip nutella cookies are crazy amazing! There's an area towards the back where you can read or get some work done which rocks. They just do breakfast and lunch and are open until 2:00 each day. The coffee has a good strong taste and the iced tea is great. Super cool place! read more
