    Breakfast -yum!

Here's the scoop - this restaurant has a lot of family history. If you look closely at one of the murals, you'll find the signature of my mother, who placed it there when she was in junior high back in the early 40's. It's also the favorite Sunday breakfast place for my family, and a must-stop when we are in town. So we met the family here after church. This place was hustling! The menu is pretty extensive and they have several specials. I had the Irish Eggs Benedict - I love EB, and corn beef hash! The eggs were cooked perfectly! Served with hash browns, it was a hefty breakfast! Other meals included the Western wrap (western or Denver omelette served in a wrap), the low carb omelette with spinach and egg whites, and fluffy Belgian waffle. Service was excellent. Coffee and water refill checks occur promptly. Food is good. I hope to be able to eat here every time we visit Ballston! Someday I hope to show my granddaughter the signature of her great grandmother.

Hot Rachel - corned beef, coleslaw and Swiss cheese on house made Italian bread, with side of fries.

I've passed the Whitehouse many times and wondered what type of place it was. It looks like it has existed for a very long time. We had planned to have a late breakfast at another nearby restaurant only to discover they were closed on Mondays. Our backup plan was a walk to the Whitehouse since I had recently read that others enjoyed breakfast there. So it was just after noon as we entered and held the door for two customers leaving. We initially entered a long, narrow, brightly lit dining room with dark wood tables and chairs lining each side. At the end of this dining room we saw an additional, wider dining room with like furniture. As we entered this area we realized we were the only customers and we were met by a friendly server who told us to sit anywhere we liked. As we began to survey the breakfast portion of the menus that were provided to us we were informed that only lunch was available after 11:30 am. From the listing of salads, soups, appetizers, sandwiches and wraps we settled on a Rachel sandwich ($7.50) for my wife and a Buffalo Chicken sandwich ($7.50) for me. The Whitehouse bakes their own Italian bread and rolls for their sandwiches, which is why we did not opt to have the wrap versions of our choices. The Rachel, with corned beef, coleslaw and Swiss cheese, came between nicely toasted slices of bread. French fries were chosen as the side. The bread was very good tasting, the corned beef a bit salty, and the fries were good. Overall it was a tasty sandwich. My Buffalo Chicken sandwich consisted of two large, breaded chicken fingers served on the house-made roll. I chose a medium degree of hotness which was barely noticeable; I'm sure I would have enjoyed "hot". The chicken breading was very crispy and the chicken was moist. I had the kitchen add all the additional toppings that were offered, so it was a very heaping sandwich with the lettuce, tomato, onion and blue cheese sauce. It was a very enjoyable sandwich and went well with my choice of onion rings as a side. Service was very friendly and pleasant. Refills were offered for the coffee ($1.50/cup) which had a decent amount of flavor. While the restaurant currently only serves breakfast and lunch, the menu also showed hours for serving food at the bar Wed. - Fri. from 5 pm. We hadn't noticed a bar on our arrival because there was a separate door to the bar area in the entry foyer. A trip to the men's room revealed a separate room parallel to the long narrow dining room where a neat looking bar, jukebox and pool table are located. While we didn't see the actual bar menu, are server gave us the impression that the appetizers and sandwiches were likely available. She also said that the breads are baked in a pizza oven. So the possibility exists that pizza and dinners might be offered in the future.

Eggs Madison & Home Fries with side of Oscar's bacon
    John Z.

Had the Eggs Madison, benedict dish with sausage patties. Smooth and creamy sauce, thoroughly cooked eggs, sausage bigger than the english muffin mild in flavor. Homefries were well seasoned and crispy, needing no additional salt, pepper or condiments. Sign at entry said we serve Oscars bacon, so impulse buy. Thick and well cooked just to the point before overly done Coffee was mild. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Definitely recommend

Special with onion, bacon, sausage and cheese for $8.50!

Had been a long time since I have been here for breakfast! I will be going back soon because it was really good!!!!! Had the special which was an omelette with onions, bacon, sausage and cheese! The omelette was large and cooked perfectly!! Only reason for four stars was the place is run down and service was a little slow even though the place was almost empty!

This was an amazing experience. Every touch point was a pure joy, from the moment I entered and was promptly and politely seated, to the last few minutes as I chatted with one of the owners, Chris. Every single interaction we experienced gave us the comfort of being amongst friends who were happy to see us, and more importantly happy to be here. From our fully engaging server to the wonderful highschool sophomore who never let our water glasses get below half full, each and every person made our experience just that: an experience of excellence and perfect attention to detail. Our meals were just as delicious as the people. The Grilled Double-Cut Pork Chop was an absolute triumph--impeccably juicy, beautifully charred, and perfectly balanced by earthy morels, rich creamed ramps, and the bright, sweet pop of local cherries. The reimagined "Ratatouille" was a stunning work of art, featuring a beautifully seared zucchini steak, smoky eggplant crème, and a crisp, fresh nest of squash topped with plump, perfectly grilled shrimp. For the perfect conclusion, the Espresso Crème Brûlée delivered a silky, robust coffee custard beneath a shatteringly crisp caramelized crust, brilliantly elevated by the crunch of cacao nibs. What truly elevated the evening, however, was how flawlessly they handled my strict wheat- and grain-free dietary needs. Navigating menus with these restrictions can often feel stressful, but our server and the chef made every possible effort to accommodate me. They proactively verified every sauce and reduction to ensure they were safe, and the kitchen effortlessly modified the dessert by putting the biscotti on the side. To enjoy a multi-course, world-class meal with that level of meticulous care and total peace of mind is incredibly rare. They didn't just accommodate a restriction; they crafted a masterpiece around it. We certainly won't be waiting another 8 years to return.

My 4pack takeaway of pint cans was $20, so puts it on the high end of craft beer costs. Although, they did include a token for a free beer in house. If you stay and drink, it's $7/per so more readable compared to other bars. I'd like to come back and try the rest of their lineup to perhaps find one that hits it out of the park!

We've come a couple of times and the guy behind the bar has always been enthusiastic and friendly. Unfortunately, there's no kitchen for food and the beer is just okay. I'd suggest sticking with more classic styles like the cream ale, ESB, etc. I have tried a couple of their IPAs and NEIPAs and several seem to have been oxidized or of lower quality than most other breweries in the area. There are a few benches and chairs outside in the front and side yards to sit at, and those outdoor spots are dog-friendly. Located right on the corner of U.S. Route 9 and Malta Ave in Ballston Spa, the outside is pretty low-key. The parking lot was a bit dark, with most of the light coming from the building itself but don't let that fool you. You walk in and you're right at the bar , with plenty of seating barside or table, if that's your vibe. Not into sitting up front? No problem, there's additional seating in the back for a more relaxed feel. Service was a win. Our waiter was courteous, attentive, and accommodating without hovering. Now the food, the Gooouda Burger caught my eye immediately. I ordered it bunless, wrapped in buttery romaine lettuce, topped with crispy bacon and fried onions. Paired it with their straw fries (seriously good) and a cold beer to wash it down. First bite? Exactly what you want. Food to temp, everything was crisp not soggy, the burger was cooked perfectly, even at well done, which is not easy to pull off. I can only speak for the burger, but based on that alone: don't judge this place by its exterior. Give it a shot, you might be pleasantly surprised.
