I had a late morning breakfast here on a weekday and was pleasantly surprised that there was no wait! I normally get on their list on yelp and check their wait time as this is a popular spot for breakfast and lunch. It's always hard to decide whether to have something sweet or savory. All good choices and also gluten free and vegan options so something for everyone. If you're super hungry i recommend getting savory and sharing sweet. So best of both worlds. There's tables outside in nice weather and it's cute and cozy inside. I like that you order at the counter as there's also specials on the board and you can look over their beverage options both hot and cold. Good that they have menus on hand to peruse through as you approach the front. There's also a nice side table with milk and alternatives and sweeteners to jazz up your drink. You can also help yourself to iced water too which is always a plus. Just find yourself a table and your order is brought to you when ready. We had a lemon berry waffle, a customized waffle with berries, bananas and Nutella as well as a French toast waffle with a side of potatoes. It all came out relatively quick and was tasty, just not very hot in temperature. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but I do prefer my waffles hotter. The waffles were not crisp on the outside and tender on the inside either but maybe thats just how they make them here. I also noticed that the potatoes were a little darker in color than normal but it could just be the seasoning on it. The potatoes had nice flavor but were soft in texture. This place is fantastic! The staff was friendly and very helpful with their food suggestions. I had the egg and cheese and bacon sandwich. It was on a waffle. They provided syrup to dip it in. It was a great combination of savory and sweet. I had a side of fruit salad and the fruit was nice and fresh. I had hot chocolate with my meal and it was perfect. Makes a huge difference. The waitlist vs people waiting can be a bit hard for people to understand and navigate if they've never been in before but the staff are kind and will help if you ask them. The inside is adorable. My favorite is sitting at the high top by the window, or back by the take one, leave one book shelf. The decor is cozy and makes you want to stay forever... but please don't, those people over there want your table. I'm a creature of habit. Bananas foster waffle with no whip cream is my jam. I get it every time and I'm never disappointed. It's perfection. My husband and son always get something different, claiming they need to try it all. My son really did love the waffle grilled cheese with ham and pesto and often debates getting it again. I ate at the Iron Roost before the pandemic and thought it was great. We went back recently. A lot has changed there, but so has the rest of the world ! It seems that the menu has been streamlined. My Southwest Fiesta wasn't what I expected. Neither was my husband's omelette special. I wish someone would have warned us that our meals were going to look like wrap sandwiches. There was nothing in the menu descriptions to indicate that. I was expecting to see colorful omelette platters. Instead, the eggs came wrapped in bland "waffle wedges," which had the thickness of a crepe, but the grid pattern of a waffle. The wraps were held together with oversized toothpicks. I realize that turning the meals into finger food reduces the clean-up, but customers need fair warning. The food was good. I just didn't find the meals to be visually appealing. Definitely not a fiesta. Other diners seemed fine with their meals. I couldn't tell if they were first time customers. The restaurant's decor still has rustic charm, but there seem to be fewer decorations on the walls. We came for lunch on a weekday. I was happy to see the place bustling with families and workers on lunch break. Among the precautions implemented during the pandemic, customers are required to order and pay for their meals at the front counter before being seated. Tips are also collected in a tip jar on the counter. That way, the servers don't need to handle money, but how do you know how much to tip if you haven't received any food or services yet? To help with social distancing, there's a designated entrance & a separate exit. The staff repeatedly spoke with customers to keep the flow of foot traffic in one direction. I've never seen these precautions at any other restaurant and we dine out quite frequently. I think the restaurant should be commended for taking measures to keep both staff and patrons safe, I'm just wondering if there's a better way to convey the measures to customers rather than in the abrupt manner it was done with us. Perhaps a message on the website or better signage near the entrance? Change can be good, but the restaurant owes it to its customers to communicate better. If we had any idea of what our meals were going to look like, we would have ordered something different. If we knew we were suppose to pay upfront, I would have had my wallet ready.I found it awkward and unsettling. Then again, some people can't adapt. I don't doubt the very good experiences others have had here. Perhaps my next time here will be even better (and I'd definitely come back). A few things kept this first visit from being quite so satisfactory to me. I came in for an early lunch, and before going to the counter to place my order, I checked the table situation. I counted at least 4 empty tables - two for 2, and two more for 4. When I got in line to place my order, I was greeted by a woman I assume was a server and/or bus person. She gave me a menu and asked me if I was eating in or taking out. When I said I was eating in, she said that there weren't any available tables, but there would be lots of counter space available. Well, there were only 4 people ahead of me... hmm... math? So, quite frankly, what they came across as saying is that if they're busy, they want people dining solo not to use tables and use the counters instead???? I ordered one of the daily specials, an omelet wedge. This was an omelet wrapped, taco-style, in a thin soft waffle - think "waffle tortilla," and it was drizzled with a sweet sauce, perhaps a balsamic reduction. The omelet was excellent, with very fresh ingredients and piping hot. The waffle and sauce really didn't do anything for me to enhance the meal. If... nay when... I return, I'm more likely to just get the omelet, I liked it so much. The amount of coffee you get here for $3.30/$3.60/$3.90 also does not seem competitive compared to coffee at other places. When we said it was our first time, the waitress began to explain everything to us. I had egg and sausage on a waffle with a side order fruit cup. I washed it down with an iced chai latte which was delicious. My boyfriend went vegan and said the cashew cheese was delicious. You wait in a queue to then get in line to order before they send you to your table. Get in line from home on your phone and show up later because the wait is long! On their handling alone of safety precautions I would have given them a 5. sanitizers at self serve areas. signage on doors to enter & exit. Staff extremely attentive & friendly. One of the best cups of coffee! Waffle n' Chic ken special was better than expected as I am not a fan of siracha, but their mix with maple syrup was on point. Waffle could have been a bit more crispy & needed a bit more flavor- but was rescued by the syrup. The Philly wrap had eggs, steak, onions & very flavorful. Boston creme waffles was large and taste was as you would expect. Some cute items for sale: soaps, coffee, snacks, etc. This place will now be on my must visit list when in the area. I love the Iron Roost and used to visit quite regularly their first couple years in business. As time went on they removed Sunday hours which was a bummer since it is such a popular day to go out to breakfast and the day we always were able to make it there. Because of this my visits decreased over the years but I always looked forward to when we could make it there on a Saturday. Today (Saturday) I went to Yelp to see if I could get on the wait list and I now see they are closed on Saturdays. I don't understand how a breakfast/brunch restaurant is not open at least one day of weekend. Unless retired, most people work during the week and can't make it out to a breakfast. I would love to make it back sometime but that's likely not going to happen. I did see they have 2 days in September they will be open but the way it's worded in their website seems like this is a special occasion and not a regular Saturday hours thing. As far as the food, when I have visited in the past it's always been delicious. Which is why I'm bummed about the hours. The staff was always very friendly. You order your food at the cash register, and they bring it out. The food came out quickly and was great!
