This diner puts other diners to shame! I went late morning and I expected to have to wait to be seated at least a couple minutes. Nope... We were seated immediately and I ordered iced coffee. I made sure to drink that before our order was taken so I could take advantage of the refill. It was really good coffee so that wasn't a problem. We ordered two bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches and I couldn't have been happier. The bacon was nicely cooked, plenty of cheese, and the eggs were cooked great for a sandwich. The home fries were also thoroughly cooked and HOT! We also shared a small plate of strawberry french toast and it was delicious as well. The service was great! And considering how busy they were, we did not feel rushed. But our server still made sure to give us the bill before we were done eating. I guess it could be considered rude but I found it preferable to waiting around after the meal. I wish I could expect more of that from other restaurants. I will be making sure to come by during lunch hours in the future because I need to try one of their Reuben sandwiches. **Update** I went back this afternoon and wow they were a lot busier than before. I kinda expected it today so it wasn't a big deal. Not surprisingly the service was a little slower than last time. But our server was polite and did frequently check on us. This is the second time in two weeks that I have ordered food for delivery .Both times the side salad was not sent. I called today and spoke with an employee from the restaurant. She informed me that It was the hostess who was making the mistakes. I asked why the salad was not with the order. Again she blamed the hostess. She also informed me that I was not alone. Rather than blame the hostess to the customer, she should re-train the hostess. New management is not impressing me at all. Bring back the old management. read more

Mmm. I have resisted writing this review for some time because every time I think about brunch, I get insatiably hungry. I am a fan of the Iron Town Diner on facebook, which tempts me on an almost-daily basis with food porn/glamor shots of their specials and standby dishes. I'd experienced the breakfast sandwich (cheesy, in a good way) and blueberry pancakes (one order large enough to feed my family) as takeout at some early morning days at work, and finally made my way out to Saugus a few weeks ago to try the restaurant in the flesh. On one sunny Sunday, I dragged Lauren M on a roadtrip up route 1 just in time to make the brunch hour before the diner closed. Design note: the menus and decor (furniture, placemats, and fixtures) all match. Our waiter was a friendly young man who cheerfully offered us coffee and gave us ample time with the menu--we had to order strategically, of course. I opted for the blacksmith benedict, eggs with bacon and tomato, served with homefries. My dining counterpart ordered the smoked salmon benedict. Of course, an entrée each wouldn't give us enough to go on, so we chose to split a short stack of banana walnut pancakes, too. After spending requisite time taking photos of our dishes for Instagram and Yelp, we commenced the act of eating. The result? Solid breakfast food with the requisite sides and toppings on offer. The food came out within a reasonable timeframe, service was friendly, and the food was tasty. Not sure what else you need from a diner--but their social media presence scores additional points from me, even if it does make me hungry beyond belief. Local business! This place is not what I expected since it was in a strip mall but with diner style food with great flavor and taste that anyone would enjoy. Everything in the place around me looked fantastic as I looked at the menu. I could see the portions were plentiful and that you would walk away feeling good about the experience. The waitress was good and we never felt rushed to order so that made it a even better. We both (a friend and me) started off with coffee in decent size mugs and the coffee wasn't weak and not strong, perfect! My friend ordered the monte cristo sandwich with home fries instead of fries and I ordered eggs benedict (many different options available) with corn beef hash, which came with home fries that were cooked well, to a crisp; like I like them. The guy next to me ordered one special of the day lasagne and it was a great portion and looked good and he seemed to enjoy it since it was eaten very quickly. I wish there was an option to give no stars. My parents went today, and one server asked my dad what he wanted to drink. When he took his order, he didn't acknowledge my mom and left. Then a new waiter came over to take their order, and when my mom asked for a smoothie, the waitress rolled her eyes and told them never mind the other waiter can take care of you. My parents, highly upset, decided to leave because no one came to serve them after that, and when they saw them leaving, no staff asked what was wrong. They felt very discriminated against as they were the only people of color, and the people next to them, the servers, were attending to them and completely ignoring my parents. Highly upsetting, and I will make sure to let others know not to go here due to horrible hospitality and the way they were looked at as nothing. If you're a person of color, I really wouldn't recommend going here. sad. read more

We went here the Monday after Christmas. Super busy. It was ok in my opinion. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table. Because there were so many great Yelp reviews was ok by us. You give your number and they text u. It was freezing out so we waited in the car. When we did get seated it was a table by the door. The downfall of this was those coming in to put their name in hold the door so I was freezing. The host was an older guy who was oblivious to the cold wind blowing in ad he was wearing shorts do clearly it didn't bother him. It was 1145. I got eggs Benedict. The eggs were Luke warm and there wasn't a lot of sauce. Eggs were not soft boiled as yolks didn't run. Bacon over cooked. I've had a lot of eggs Benedict and these were a pass in my opinion. BF got the kabobs. He said they were a little dry but good flavor. This is a local place. Clearly if u know the owner you get to jump the line because 2 of his friends with a party of 4 and 5 got to jump those who were waiting. Service was slow but it was super busy. At one point I told the guy at the front we were ready to pay. I thought he'd take our card or bring are check to help turn the table over quickly but he wasn't very helpful. This place has gone down hill fast. The lady at the door seems to to be very overwhelmed and stressed and there is no waitlist. In a panic she was yelling at me to move faster when I was behind a man who was 96 years old. The food took forever. There were 4 parties sat after us and all have their food and 2 of the parties are paying the bill. The bar tender was our waitress. She was great! Very kind and apologetic. The service was good, our waitress was very nice and the staff there were all very welcoming and nice. The food on the other hand was bad. I got a Belgium waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. The waffle was average to low, it did not have a lot of flavor and tasted like they used box waffel mix. It kind of had a cardboard after taste. I didn't even try the strawberries because they looked god awful. The whipped cream was also not good it tasted like whipped 1/2 and 1/2 it was not creamy enough and part of it was milk or supposedly cream. It was definitely not homemade and not a good brand of canned whipped cream. The whipped cream was too sweet. Overall I would not recommend this place. I was here for the first time this morning, and we have found our new favorite breakfast spot! Everyone was very warm and friendly and we were early enough to be seated right away. The menu is massive with many additional specials. Creative choices (churro waffles, anyone?), with the quality and portions to support the menu. Our waiter was friendly and gracious. Our party ordered a baked potato omelette which was light and fluffy....loaded with mashed potatoes, crisp bacon, cheddar cheese and topped with sour cream and scallions. The home fries were lightly seasoned and grilled to perfection without being greasy. We also ordered Portuguese sweetbread french toast....thick slices nicely caramelized and griddled perfectly. My daughter had a basic breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. The bacon was meaty but crisp, and there was so much of it! There was also a second white toast option (sourdough) which is nice for plain eaters like my daughter. We also added a side of their famous homemade corned beef hash. We loved it so much and we went there for the second time. I ordered the Pastrami stacked panini. My husband ordered the fish and chip (on the daily special menu). He loved it very much. The perfect amount of crispyness and batter to fish. I tried the spicy fries for the side, which is french fries with light dusting of cajun seasoning, which is good. We saw another special on the blackboard and had to order the cannoli french toast with chocolate chip and strawberries. It was delicious. There was so much food and very reasonably priced. I posted a gleaming review in the past about how much I love Iron Town. Once or twice a week for over three years now we have gone to Iron Town for breakfast and sometimes lunch. Adore the sweet and welcoming staff. You can see in my past review how big of a fan I was. However, as someone who is very familiar with the restaurant, noticeable changes have happened since the new owners took over (and not for the better). The prices have gone up tremendously (you can get the same things down the street for half the price). Found out today that they no longer serve regular orange juice, just fresh squeezed (the fresh squeezed is $7 on the menu). The waitresses and waiters go above and beyond and are so kind, but these changes are leading us to find a new regular spot. Sad to agree with another review alone that the staff don't even seem as happy as they were with the previous owners. read more

The food and service here has declined since they opened to the point that I just had my last meal there. The eggs were cold, the bacon raw, and the potatoes rubbery as if they had been reheated, or even previously served. Finally made my way to Iron Town after seeing it on Phantom Gourmet last year. It definitely lived up to the hype. We came around 11 on a saturday morning and were quoted a 25 minute wait. We only ended up waiting 15 minutes so that was nice. Both the hostess and the server were very nice and the service was top notch. I had the sunrise omelette and my boyfriend had the corned beef sandwich. We got the nutella banana french toast to share because the phantom said so! Everything came out quickly and was delicious. Great service and who can go wrong with Greek run breakfast joint? I loved the CBH and it was ground finer than any other version I had sampled. Perfection comes in many forms and flavors. When eating at a diner, you need to choose wisely. If you get eggs and bacon with toast, don't expect much as there's not much a cook can do with that to make it special. I read through some of the reviews and well, stupid people (Amy, that's you) order bland food and then complain about it. But back to my first-time adventure here. I was recommended to this place by another restaurant owner. When I got in, I told the hostess that I was a 'virgin' here and well, she made sure I got the right level of attention that I feel I deserved. Again, reach out to people to make a connection and you'll get one if the restaurant is good. To start, the service as great and so was the coffee. It wasn't anything fancy but I like regular coffee. You want fancy, go to that 'place' and spend $10. I didn't want to order from the menu as I wanted something special but I did glance at it. All the basics you'd expect from a diner. Speaking of special, they had a good variety of specials and I got (get the insulin shot ready) fruity pebbles vanilla-glazed french toast with a side of bacon (for protein). I got two pieces of perfectly cooked bacon, crisp without being too brown. As for the french toast, just simply decadent​. Perfection in 47 bites. My date had something more traditional with eggs, toast, etc. His meal was flavorful and cooked well. When he was done, he tried mine and well, it became a contest to see who would finish it first. I almost had to order another one! To say I'll be back, naturally. It was worth the 15-minute​ drive and30-minute​e wait. Don't go and order scrambled eggs, live a little, unless you are Amy and just like living with disappointed your whole life. PS.
