They are terrific. Years ago we had a single handrail put on our back steps. Recently, the post office told us the front stairs were a hazard and they wouldn't deliver our mail! Actually, when we looked at them we had to agree. We decided to put handrails on the front steps, and called Iron Works 21. Diana really came through. The steps are irregular, with curves and multiple sections. They fitted them exactly to the curves, and they look great. Their service is very attentive, they told us exactly when they were coming, and came exactly at that time. They delivered when they said they would, and the three workers were here for 8 hours, until after dark, to finish the job. We had a custom rail along side our stucco wall and then a set of railings going down our concrete stairs to our back yard. They came out awesome with a very fair price. I would have given them 5 stars but I think they only put one coat of paint on and a few little scratches rusted. Nothing alittle sand paper and spray paint can't fix. Used Iron Works 21 to replace our old driveway gate motor and am very happy with the results. They removed the old one, broke up the old concrete holding it in place, mounted the new motor on a very secure iron stand and then poured concrete to hold it in place. They also replaced other needed parts on the gate and it works great now. Very pleased with their service. read more

I've never had a problem with Oscar or any members of his family. They have never changed their price on me mid job, and I do not think a deposit is a ridiculous request considering they are buying material for the job and can't be expected to go out of pocket for customers who might change their mind. read more

Back in June 2013 I needed a new metal railing in my house for a staircase. My contractor at the time recommended someone who came out and gave me a high quote for something that did not really look that good. I found Iron Works 21 on the recommendation of a local glass company. Oscar came out to my house, looked over the situation and then brought out a notebook with all sorts of designs etc. I did not see much that I liked as our house is mid century and so much wrought iron is just "Butt Ugly" but I did find one design that I liked, he quoted me about 1/3 what the original guy quoted, so I was like "hmm" I gave him a check 50% down, they called me soon after that and said they wanted to install the new railing. 2 men came to my house and installed the railing. All in all it went pretty well, we love the look and feel of the railing, it's made from solid steel, not tubes and they painted it flat black as requested. There was a small repainting required on a wall where some arcing occurred during install, and I made one adjustment to the install after they left. Regardless of what I paid, they did a nice job and never let me down on time, etc they showed up when they said they would, or someone called me well in advance to let me know if that was not the case. Just want to warn people, beware, This is a family owned business, and from the dad, to the mom, down the bloodline to the daughter, THEY all seem to have inherit the WORSE, uncompromisable attitude, Ive ever had the misfortune of witnessing. To truly top the whole thing off, they request a deposit in advance... And in the midst of the project, changes their mind about the price, jacks up the cost of their labor, and tells u to take it or leave it, and theyll walk away keeping your deposit, leaving you with their unfinished construction. We did an addition to our house. My husband did everything himself, from foundation to roof, to finishes. Then we needed to get someone else to do the railing for our staircase. That's when our problems started. We contact Oscar, who comes to do measurements, gives an estimate, asks for a deposit. The deposit seems high (ilttle less than 50%) but we do not think much of it. He says they could do the work in 2 weeks. Then we do not hear from him for an entire week, and we have to solicit him a few times before he shows up two weeks later. He brings with him a crew of Barbarians who systematically proceed to trash our house, our newly painted walls, our freshly installed hardwood floors. They poke a huge hole on our stairs, and decide to plug their welding equipment to the kitchen outlet, creating a short that blows all our appliances. After calling for repairs, and after waiting ONE MONTH AND A HALF we finally get the railing installed. It looks pretty badly done, there are burn marks everywhere on the stairs, the epoxy is showing all over, and the ending looks like a badly drawn penis, but if that ensures i never have to see that guy again in my life, i'm ok with it. Shameless Bonus: when we charged Oscar for the repairs to hardwood/ electrical, he had the guts to complain and give attitude! Amazing! read more

Do not use these people, I gave a deposit with strike instruction that I must see material first before job is done. I went to the store and missed them 3 different times.They went ahead and made the job without my approval of material and I refused to pay and requested my deposit back and the daughter argued with me and said read the fine print on your reciept. Called for an estimate. Oscar came out, took all the measurements and said he would get back to me by 6PM that evening. I didn't hear anything from Oscar that evening so I called him a few days later. The lady who answers the phone said that she would get a hold of Oscar and get back to me. Terrible customer service. We needed our gate that they installed fixed and they never returned our several calls. We have a toddler and live on a busy steer which I explained to the receptionist and still no one bothered to call us back over 4 days of calling them daily. He also offered great design advice and even threw few in a few extras at no extra charge. A deposit up-front is absolutely reasonable and I would think, standard. I am very surprised to read the bad reviews on Iron Works 21. I have been doing business with Oscar for the past 12 years and never had any issues with the work. His prices are very reasonable. He has always been very respectful and professional. He made a custom interior railing for my house among other work. And after my railing was installed I asked Oscar to make a few changes to the design to which he agreed and mentioned there will be additional fees because there were not part of the contract. I agreed to pay extra since it was my decision to make the changes. The original work and modification were all done to my specifications and I was very satisfied with the final results. I have also referred Oscar to family, friends, and clients and they all have been very happy and satisfied with his work. read more

Slow to complete project. Metal gate wasn't properly primed and painted and rusted within 2 mo. I suggested waiting until exterior work was complete, but they suggested installing anyway. Subsequently I had to remove gate, then reinstall. Because original installation was substandard it was very difficult to reinstall. I contacted them to help reinstall because they did a poor job putting it in originally. Said they were very busy, and normally charged $140, even though I live 5 minutes away. So mad! read more

ZERO STARS! Never have I had such terrible service from a "contractor". It was only after the fact that I found out that the owner of Iron Works 21, Oscar, doesn't even have a C-23 contractor's license, nor any other contractor's license for that matter (makes me wonder if he has a business license). We asked for two fences, two rolling gates, a double entry gate, and two side gates back in late November 2015. He assured me that it would be completed as I asked by March 2016. When his crew came in late January to install the two front fences onto existing pillars they realized that the measurements were wrong, they had to take it back to the shop and cut it. When they returned in mid-February and reinstalled it we discovered a number of defects and poor workmanship, back to shop again. The third time they installed it was still not what we asked for. By this time we're in March and Oscar offered to change the design since they couldn't get it the way we agreed. I asked for a simplified top bend (they couldn't get it to blend with "grape vines"), a slight modification I thought. He assured me that a crew would be out the next day to remove the fence and that the gates in the shop would all be corrected. More than a month goes by and still no crew to remove the fence. In May I visit his shop and find that nothing has been done to modify the gates. His excuse, "I had other work I had to do." What!! I demand my deposit back (nearly one third of the total) and he says I'll have to take him to court if I want it back. Well that's exactly what I'm going to do.
