We had 50' of fence along the driveway and a bi-parting 10' gate across it that was barely standing. The removal revealed a bigger project than we'd anticipated but proved no challenge for Jonathan, even with his normal working partner out injured. We also went with some upgraded materials, planks installed at an angle, and an asymmetrical curved top to the gates, but no requests were daunting and the finished product is beyond our expectation. Legitimate review. I hired Jonathan 3 years ago to build and install a driveway gate and a fence. The gate looked beautiful but it was poorly designed. From beginning there were issues and over time the gate sagged and dragged and the lock wouldn't fit, until I was the only one who could open and close it. I even offered to pay Jonathan to come fix it or convert it into a double swing and he apparently came by without mentioning it and said he would send an estimate and then ghosted me on several texts. This week I had to hire someone else to tear out the entire gate and replace it. I am so incredibly disappointed with Jonathan; he seemed so genuine when he initially built the gate. read more

Highly recommend Jonathan of Covington framing! I met with several contractors, and he was by far the most responsive, most pleasant and his bid was very competitive. I needed a deck built at my parent's house. I live an hour away from my parents, so I needed someone very trustworthy and patient to do the job. After watching him and his crew work the first day, I knew that I did not need to be at the job site everyday and could manage the project from home. My parents are aging so they needed a deck that would allow my father to go straight out to the deck from a new patio door. We had to consider all the factors to make the deck safe for my 92-year-old father while working with my mom to design a deck that would be esthetically pleasing to her. My mom had no idea what she wanted, so Jonathan offered many suggestions to finally nail down the design, colors and materials. We needed to consider future wheelchair use, so deck had to be flushed with patio door and a ramp was needed. Jonathan considered everything to ensure my dad could safely go out to the deck, maneuver easily around the deck and go up and down the ramp. We discussed ramp slope and width and his concern was always my father's safety and future maneuverability. The ramp proved challenging as the concrete patio had a much bigger slope than how it appeared. It required so much more time to get the ramp slope ratio/incline perfect. This added extra days, but Jonathan was more concerned to get it perfect than the additional time and labor it required. My mom is not easy to please, but she loved Jonathan. She was so impressed with his punctuality, hard work and attention to detail. I was beyond happy with the outcome. Jonathan's work and integrity is beyond excellent. Highly recommend him! read more

We hired Covington Framing roughly a year ago, and I've been meaning to leave a review ever since. Jonathan Ratta is fantastic and I cannot recommend him more highly. Jonathan built a fence for our small front yard. We had a difficult time figuring out the design of the front gate, because of the slope of our property. Jonathan patiently talked us through our options, brainstormed some creative solutions, and built us a front gate that we LOVE. The fence is beautiful, functional, and we could not be happier. Jonathan also built us a redwood enclosure for the outdoor split HVAC units off of our garage ADU...the outdoor HVAC units were an eyesore and were placed in an odd spot--required some finesse and design creativity to build the proper enclosure, and Jonathan did a fantastic job. We also have some stairs and a railing off the back door to the house. Whomever built the railing originally did not make it child-safe, and there were plenty of gaps. On the spur of the moment, we showed it to Jonathan while he was here working on the fence, and he graciously agreed to fix it. He added 2x2s to the railing, which made it safe for our toddler and also much prettier than before. He was flexible, creative, and really kind to add that task to the job. Covington's bid was not the most expensive bid we received. The combination of superior work and reasonable cost is a win, on it's own. Add to it that Jonathan Ratta (and his assistant, who was great and whose name I cannot remember) is a kind, polite, and generally lovely human being to have around--it doesn't get much better than that. On top of this, we wanted to take on this project with a out-of-the-ordinary elevated design concept that was cohesive with our mid-century house and it's surroundings. I couldn't be happier with the experience or the result of working with Jonathan. NOTE--for the people who wrote negative reviews of him not responding to requests for work, I can understand why that would be annoying. However, given that he does all of his jobs himself, he can't handle every job request that comes through. Reason being he's not sending out separate crews to do his jobs. He's on the job site and building along with his team. So he only takes on what he can handle. Please take that into consideration when reading reviews. As someone who got to work with Jonathan directly, he is an excellent communicator, sticks to his timelines, doesn't do jobs simultaneously (only focuses on one project at a time), uses quality products, is thoughtful and problem-solving and offers fair and transparent pricing. Additionally, he leaves the job site as clean as can be and was very respectful of our home/yard. I don't have enough good things to say about him. If you are lucky enough to have him as your contractor, go for it! We love our new deck. He extended our existing deck and then sanded and stained it to look seamless to the new. I never would have thought a fence can deliver a transformation to the back yard, but it truly has! In one of the great winds part of the fence fell and we realized there were no fixing it, it needed to be replaced. I asked for 5 different quotes and we decided to go with Covington Framing. We have a long fence line so initially we were just replacing the fence by the pool and potentially by the front of the house and the plan was to do the middle part at a later date. As it was around the pool area they would also replace the pool machinery enclosing. However, as they started the construction we realized it just looked too nice!! It looked far too nice for us to not replace the full line of fence so we did. The craftsmanship around the pool machinery was impressive and so much more than I anticipated. The noise from the machinery is less and its really solid with a gate. The fence line they needed to work with has a slope and a not so straight old stone edge/wall that didn't take kindly to the old fence being removed. Though, when you look down the fence it looks super straight and it has opened up the backyard. The result looks just amazing! The fence really has transformed the backyard! We also had an itsy bit of horizontal fence done on the opposite side, to make it more economical Jonathan customized the planks already being used and it looks very upscale and achieved just the look we wanted. When you hire Jonathan of Covington Framing and Construction you are going to work with a highly experienced expert craftsman you can communicate and collaborate with. A sizable deck and pergola will present issues that are difficult to foresee...changes in step height..pergola end designs..placement of wood to anchor curtain rails...and drainage issues. Jonathan literally builds your project from the very beginning to the final application of oil stain. He puts his blood, sweat and tears into every project. He was at my project every day...8am to 3pm. I can't emphasize how important this is when building a deck, which is a lifetime type of investment. It has to be done right the first time. Important details about your house need to be communicated to the builder. I had to point out the location and size of the wooden headers for the French doors and the location of load bearing beams so as not to drill into them. Communication can't be emphasized enough. I also appreciate how Jonathan wouldn't compromise the integrity and longevity of the deck. He insisted that the deck be built flush to the door in order to minimize water leakage. This meant an increase in step hight by 1.5 inches. But I'm happy with result. Excellent!!! Covid makes hiring any contractor harder these days. There are supply issues. I waited 3 months for Jonathan to start my project. I used the time to prepare the area for work and fine tune my drawings. It was worth it. I'm thrilled with the results!!!
